Hotspotting my phone works better than the $105 a month we pay. When I call them to complain to have them try to fix it... I'm doing something wrong, nothing is wrong on their end. Oh and the monthly fee I pay to be able to have a technician come out? Scam. They flat out REFUSED to send someone when we hadn't had internet for 3 days. They said they would charge me a full service charge because they don't see anything wrong on their end. Every time I call, there is never anything wrong "on their end". Well how about the fact we never have enough signal to do anything. Ever. I tried cancelling twice. Each time it plays hold music for 10 minutes, then at that mark it disconnects me. Both times. They are so unprofessional its crazy.
I have found the customer service very helpful. In this day and age of technology, businesses have to continually work to upgrade and stay current. Hughesnet internet equipment is in part obsolete. Smart tv's do not have ethernet capability... yet, Hughesnet system provides ethernet cables to enhance their product. They are useless if you own a smart tv. This and the fact that only a slow 25 mps/10G is offered at the same price as cable high speed internet unlimited at 200 mps which makes Hughesnet very expensive. However, Hughesnet is more for rural locations that cable does not reach and because of this fact I think Hughesnet charges more. Understanding the basics before you enlist this service goes a long way in customer satisfaction. Going in with a good attitude, being agreeable and willing to work with customer service makes it a much nicer experience.
Don't believe the advertising. High speed internet? Might as well be dial up. Data caps and over priced for service provided. Hughsnet sucks!
Absolute worst service ever! Especially the WiFi. Made it 3 times slower than the service itself. Thought it might have been a router issue but nothing changed with a new one. Called about it and they were of no help whatsoever so I canceled the service. They stole the $238 for cancelling as far as I'm concerned. Crooked company who can't be trusted or depended upon. They don't care about the customer at all only care about scamming the money from you.
We were a customer of Hughes Net for 12 years due to slowness of the WiFi we recently cancelled. Well after 2 months of disconnecting our services with Hughes Net they were still automatically drafting payments out of my account. I contact them about this matter and supposedly it was a computer glitch but for the best part they tell me I have to wait 10 days after the 2nd withdrawal was done. So they take money out of my account that didn't belong to them and I have to wait 10 days to get my money back. Do not do business with Hughes Net. They are thief's.
When I ordered hughesnet, the rep made it sound great. There has not been 1 day in a year that I've been able to watch anything without 100+ interruptions. My internet and all when I check my connection is working, so what is the problem. And don't think about getting an email or chat from them. Also they take their payment from my account and charge me a late fee every month, y the late fee, you pull the money out... never have I gotten receipt of service, a SAN number, anything... want to quit service but not sure if theres an early disconnect fee... they should pay it for horrible service
This is the worst service you can get! The installer was lazy... he made me burry the line to house for him and didn't give any kind of tutorial for how everything worked. Then, a few months in my service stopped working. I did tech chat three different times and they told me it was because it was cloudy! Why would I spend $80/month for a service that only worked when the sun shined?!? When I finally got through to someone they said it would be $265 to cancel! Unreal how horrible this company is! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM!
Monday is first week with Hughes net cost more than my phone DSL with Hughesnet approx speed 25, wow great. It is a total lie. Posting this be clear the agreement signed by me not to expected such poor performance all the time. I made a recorded record on outages. My FCC engineering licences # P1-19-******* This 72 year old man retired now will see them in court. Total wrong... If a car it could not pull out driveway,,,, hell go the store! Lots of luck..
First of all, it is a 24-month contract.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HUGHESNET, PREMISE WIRELESS, INSIGHT SATELLITE.
They should not be in business.
No one tells you this beforehand despite asking prior to setting up services.
I was quoted if I cancel early it would be an early termination fee of only $490.00.
Two months later, I cancel to find out the fee is actually for 24 months $790.00! Ripoff!
I was told I signed policy with Hughesnetfor 24 months.
I told them I would see them in court as I did not sign anything or assume anything as was iterated to me in the call.
The Account Management Specialist then gets irate with me because I told her and him (there were two reps) that I would not pay the fee and only wanted to give them their equipment back. I recorded everything and they told me that their ID was confidential, no names can be given, and that they will not accept anything from me except payment. I informed them either they give me the information to return the equipment or I will be retaining a lawyer to help move things along. I was told they would not accept anything except payment.
HughesNet "provides," hands down, the worst "internet service" I've experienced since dial-up. Honestly, the reliability of service was better with dial-up. I only rate this service slightly above because the speeds are often better. Note that I said often. Speeds are also often comparable with those of a dial-up connection. (Remember waiting for an image to load, top to bottom, pixel line by pixel line? Yeah, that happens.) And the service often cuts in and out - like really often - like throughout the day, every day - and often drops off for longer period, sometimes hours at a time. If there is a storm in Arizona, we don't have internet access in northern California. Yeah, I'm not joking.
Streaming: When streaming (short) videos, very, very rarely will they play continuously without interruption; movies, never. Periodic pausing to reload is the norm. HD does not exist. Sub-SD is the norm. Sometimes a movie/video will never re-buffer and I'll be forced to give up.
Gaming: Don't even think about it.
I will say that their customer service has been ok. They can't fix the problems, but it's not their fault.
All this, and at what price? It's expensive for a quality service. And this is far from a quality service.
In summary, I would like to convey the severity of the frustration and misery that this service causes me on a daily basis. Alas, we have no cell signal where we live and this is the only ISP option. Some days, I'm really not sure it's worth it. I beg you, please, do not sign up for HughesNet "internet service."
They are wrong it can get worse than a one star. Never get this internet. I've had nothing but trouble and it's only been 4 days. I've called several times only to be transferred around and threatened with an early cancellation fee even tho I haven't had service since the day after install! I'm running at 77% LOWER than anyone else who has HughesNet in the world. This is awful company and I would recommend anyone who was thinking about it or who has it to get out now! Do not get. I would definitely rate this company at a zero star if I could.
Connection is so weak you can not play a game on facebook. The game will not load. They are charging me $400. To cancel my service. Because I can not return the equipment in time. This service was at my river property I only use in the summer. So the equipment is in my RV in storage. I will not return until summer. So they are charging me $400.00. This is the worse internet company in that area. DO NOT USE HOUGHESNET
The worst internet service i have ever had. Slow to no service at all. They do not provide advertised speeds as advertised. Complaints result in nothing. Expensive cancellation fees, horrible customer service
My family of 4 and I need internet. I contacted them telling them i had a 1 of age child that used the computer an 2 adults that used the internet and phone for work and some internet steaming. Also, with the older child she could use their phone for personal calls. They said that we could easily do that with no problems.
We signed up... long story short, my wife and i had to get unlimited data on our phones (extra cost), we could only watch movies on Netflix and disney + during the morning or afternoon... but evening and night we. Could not stream any tv.
I called and told them this... they ended up saying they would discount me. This led them to cancelling my phone which they had never told me.
Dont go with them. They locked us into 2 years of he!
Just called to cancel today 2-14-20.
I strongly recommend you avoid HughesNet satellite internet service. Despite their advertising and salesman claims - It is no better than DSL, and sometimes it is not even as good as DSL. We have a home that does not have fiber access, and we used DSL service for several years. We tried HughesNet the salesperson promised it would be "way better" than DSL. We used HughesNet for two years unhappily. Movies constantly stopped for buffering on Netflix. Email and internet on my computer was slow frequently slower than our previous DSL. I frequently used my phone with a couple of bars as a hot spot for email and internet search this was faster than the HughesNet internet service. HughesNet is worthless unless you are desperate and have no other choice.
We live in an area where high speed internet was not available when we first arrived, so we got HughesNet internet to fill the gap--it seemed to be the most highly rated dish internet service. In hindsight, we should have just paid the extra fees for unlimited phone data/hotspot connections, because the internet from HughesNet was patchy and slow, even during "fast" periods. The worst part of our experience, though, was upon attempting to end our service after almost two years of being on-time customers. Unbeknownst to us, when you cancel your HughesNet, they expect you to return a part of the satellite dish that *a professional* installed **on your roof**. If you fail to do this, you incur almost $400 in extra fees. In our case, we did venture onto our roof, once we found a friend with a ladder high enough and safe enough to make the attempt, and returned the requested part. However, we were then informed by HughesNet that there is apparently a "108 day" rule, where if you return the part after 108 days, you forfeit your $400. Never mind that you performed their extremely unsafe request and climbed onto your roof to retrieve their equipment, never mind that they now have this equipment in their inventory, never mind that you may have done this within 113 days, and never mind that you were never once informed about the 108 day policy. They are keeping your $400. Frankly, I am appalled at such a company policy. I will never again consider HughesNet as a viable option, and I would never recommend to anyone that they should go with this service for their internet. Please, save your time, money, and safety and choose unlimited data through your phone service provider.
My very ill 76 year old mother in law signed up for this service and was very disappointed. At no time during the day or night was the service reliable, so slow you couldn't watch anything on TV, no reliable web browsing, all in all awful and what's worse still, when she tried to cancel because she needs to leave the state to move in with us due to health concerns (recovering from lung cancer at 76 with COPD), they charged her a 590 cancellation fee and took it out of her account without permission! We explained to HughesNet that she was moving in with us, they offered us the service of which we declined of course (I work from home and need reliable internet with a VPN) so they turned around and debuted that money out of her account within two weeks with no warning. They are heartless liars in my opinion, worse company I've ever tried to do business with when trying to help her with her service and cancellation! I would not recommend to anyone!
When ever we have a windy day my hughes net blows with it. My Hughes Internet service becomes extremely choppy if the wind hits speeds of 15-20 mph and its irritating as hell. Im going to have to have to kiss and make up with ATT over a billing dispute and return to their excellent hard wired Internet service where I live...
The BBB came through for me, Hughes agreed to let me out of the contract without an early termination fee. I canceled on April 3 and as of today, April 13,2019 I am still waiting for the postage paid box that they said they would send me so that I can return the modem, cord and radio transmitter off of the dish.
Also, in the lengthly written response to my complaint Hughes offered to upgrade me to the 20G plan but that was what I had signed up for and had been paying for from the very beginning. They had been giving me less for more $ and no one on their end caught that.
Contact the BBB, you will get results. They have a man who does nothing but deal with Hughesnet complaints.
I have only been a Hughesnet customer since Feb. 13,2019 and I want to get as far away from this company as I can so I have filed complaints online with the following agencies and individuals.
First I filed an online complaint with the Texas Attorney General's office. Ken Paxton's office says they cannot address individual complaints but they do watch for trends and that may trigger some action on their part, so contact your state's AG.
Next, I sent a copy of the AG's complaint to the office of my State Representative. I am in contact with his local assistant who is working with me to find every agency we can who may be able to help.
3rd, I filed an online complaint with my Congressman.
4th, I filed an online complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). They have a consumer protection division that handles cases like this.
Last, I filed an online complaint with the BBB and since I didn't have the right address for the company, they sent it along to:
BBB of Greater Maryland
502 South Sharp Street, Suite 1200
Baltimore, MD 21201-2445

Horribles como compañía la peor delm mundo, y el servicio al cliente peor de todo el mundo, mentirosos
Answer: Horrible. And, even if you reach someone to question the throttling and buffering issues, the response will be, "I can see that you have multiple Rokus connected to your system!" I may have a couple of televisions in my home, but I only watch 1 at a time. This company may understand the concept of customer service but, they do not deliver any. They continually sidestep complaints.
Answer: No, I do not believe there are any in our area since this Kansas company continues to throttle there services and delivers the services through antiquated equipment!
Answer: They promised high speed internet service "within a week" and we were in a time crunch. Plus their prices seemed reasonable until we realized you basically got NO service without upgrading to the top tier ($125/month)
