Any sort of customer support is next to nothing, out sourced - technicians are all just random contractors. This was my only option for internet service rurally - they installed a satellite dish, transceiver and modem. 5 years continued use, but when it came to cancellation, they insisted it's in their contract that I climb onto my own roof to retrieve their transceiver. I went over the entire service agreement contract with a call center woman, and the only place where it says return of equipment is required is in the event of early termination of service contract. But they insisted i needed to disassemble their equipment from my roof, and would charge me an additional 100$ to have a technician come out to do it. I tried. When I got to the roof, the bolts had been stripped upon installation 5 years prior. I told hughesnet to send a technician, and when he got there, he said not only would it be dangerous for me to try and retrieve the equipment - it's actually illegal per OSHA safety regulations for a company to ask you to get on your roof in order to retrieve their equipment and not offer a technician. On top of all that, they continued to charge me, a month after I had disputed their equipment retrieval and canceled my service. Terrible terrible company. Get internet anywhere else but HugheNet

Worst experience ever!
June 22, 2022

The service is terrible. The internet is very slow. The rate was going up again so I called to cancel it. The service rep was very rude. I was shocked to find that I have to return a part off of the satellite that they installed on my roof! How am I supposed to get that down? I don't feel that I should be responsible for removing their equipment from my roof! They said they could send someone to remove the dish but it would cost me $100. Are you kidding me?! I didn't install it, did I? Useless. If I could give them zero stars, I would.

We just had a huge hurricane in Zipolite Mexico. We were closed for more than 3 weeks. When I called for service the woman told me we had exceeded our limit, and I would have to buy "tokens". It's a scam. We got the new equipment from the technician, and had good service for about 3 days, then back to less than one MGP. I pay for 50MGPS, and we are empty. The agent "Diego" just upped the service (they have the ability to do that), but he refuses to tell me why I need to buy more "tokens" They are totally dishonest, and there are plenty of legitimate companies to buy internet services from. Stay away from Hughes. Daniel Wiener.
Just so anyone can compare: Right now Hughes tests at. 53 MBPS and I pay over 3000 pesos per month. Telcel tests at 6.5 MBPS and costs me 599 pesos per month. AT&T tests 6.3 MBPS for my iPhone including hotspot and costs 200 pesos per month. Yet Hughs keeps telling me to buy more time. Right.
Does anyone really want to go through this kind of service from this company that just keeps asking for more money? Today I disconnected the Hughes modem from my antenna because the service was unworkable. I switched to a HUAWEI modem with an AT&T sim card.
We are getting abut 15 times the speed of the Hughes modem for 400 pesos per month
We were paying Hughes 3000 pesos per month, and they kept asking for more. Don't make the same mistake.

Do not do auto pay with them! They will take it out whenever they want whatever they want. Sometimes two payments the same day. Auto pay took 2 months to stop. Took out payment on June 7th then proceeded to send me a bill due on the 7th. For 2 months they double charged me. Customer service can't help with anything because most don't know how to speak english let alone understand what
You are saying. Internet service … what a joke so slow can't do anything on it! I would rather deal with no service then pay for hughes net. Save time, money, and a headache.

HughesNet was installed in my home via Dish. I was never told by dish that it would be HughesNet until the installer showed up. The service had to be paid prior to service installed. Service worked for maybe a month. We Never could stream anything, it got to the point where we didn't have any internet. I would call each time the service went out, always told it wasn't there problem. I griped enough that they sent a new modem which was not the problem. I couldn't do my job because it required internet. After a year of paying on time and not getting the service we paid for, we opted to cancel. I paid $260 for early termination fee, I returned all their equipment, I was notified my account was now inactive. That was in April, then yesterday they hit my bank account with no notification for $134.22. They claim I didn't return the modem. I had all the tracking numbers proving I had. They had received them, just no one updated the account. So now after spending 2 hours on the phone trying to straighten this mess out, they inform me that I have to wait until the next billing cycle to get my money back. I'm so angry. They also told me I would have to call them back to initiate it. I'm so tired of fighting with HughesNet. Their service sucks in every way and shame on Dish for referring them. We now have ViaSat and are extremely happy. I would rate HughesNet a -5 if I could.

This is the worst internet company you could possibly choose. Horrible customer service, Horrible speeds, high price, can't even watch a 2 minute youtube video on low resolution without interruptions, I was told by every installer this service is over sold and does not work properly due to users above their capacity. I realize you may not have many internet options if you are considering satellite but this company will only make it worse. It also takes over an hour on the phone to resolve the most simple issue. I have never had more disconnected calls with another company. The customer service reps will just hang up on you and make you start all over very often. Lazy, unprofessional, don't provide what they offer, etc. Don't be a sucker!

We live in rural NY and HughesNet service is the worst I have ever experienced. The Internet service is throttled from the moment you sign on. Streaming does not work. After less than 1 weekend of attempting to use Internet, we are told we are "over our quota" and then they offer to have us pay more for a short-term token that will allow us to use shoddy Internet for a few more minutes. It's criminal to offer a service that does not work, and that is what HughesNet does. If you have to work from home — forget it. If you have friends or family over — it is an embarrassment because no one can use our Internet. Thank goodness we have Verizon data on our phones; we pay to use a Verizon hotspot because we cannot use our paid-for HughesNet service! Cancellation was painful. After providing us with horrible service, they relish taking a $215.00 early termination fee. Even our HughesNet installer warned us that the service is garbage. But we had no choice at the time. I'd choose NOTHING over HughesNet had I known we would be throwing away $100.00 a month just to pay additionally for a hotspot!

Horrible internet speeds... Throttling speeds after so many megs. Threatening people with early termination fees that were never spoken of when purchasing services. Hughes net will entrap you into a contract on a product that they can't deliver... Lawsuits should run this dumpster fire of a company out of buisness.

Worked well for a few days
May 17, 2022

Worked well for me until you use your alloted data limit then doesn't work at all. We use Whatsapp and it uses a lot of data to make video phone calls for my wife to her family in Colombia South America. I also have a three camera security system which wouldn't work with HughesNet's service. Canceled after 12 months of fighting with them.

Me and my future wife wanted a decent internet service. When we signed up for Hughes net, we were terribly wrong. Everything about them is terrible. High rates, customer service sucks, IT department really sucks. We called multiple times telling them our problems and they always said, "we have upgraded your service, everything should work better." Never did. So after months of the worst internet service, we had enough. Trying to cancel our service turned into a 30 minute conversation about what they can do to help! When it was all said and done we got terrible service for over 6 months, a 300 dollar cancellation fee, they want us to take apart their equipment and send it back to them! Worthless company!

Why do you think they make you sign a contract? Because they know you will cancel.do not get hues net.
The end of your 24-month term commitment: You will be charged a $400 Equipment and Installation Fee and a $400 Service Termination Fee. Don't get hues net unless no contact.

Choose something else
May 6, 2022

Every since I had hughesnet installed its been crap. The first several months I attempted to call them and complain about the speed. Multiple times they attempted to fix the issue. They said that I was receiving 30 to 50 mps at the satellite but only getting 500 to 750 kbps was normal. I asked to get a new modem/router and they would not send me a new one. Being wired in did not help the speeds either. We eneded up using our phone hotspots for the longest time while wasting well over $100 a month for the service. Finally called to cancel the service and they wouldn't budge on the $280 early term fee, even though they can't solve their own internet problems and uphold their end of the agreement they still expect you to uphold your end. It's completely worthless, I will never suggest this company to anyone

We got hughes net because atnt wasn't in our area at the time. The speed is so slow and it keeps buffering and buffering, it's annoying. I spent over 10 hours last week on the phone with technical support and it still didn't fix the issue! I called them and told them if it's not going to work then I won't pay for it. Finally I had enough and called HughesNet a week before or 30 days was up if you cancel before 30 days they will let you get out of the contract. Thankfully atnt is coming today because they service our area now and I can't wait! No more buffering! I can watch live tv and it's unlimited internet for cheaper than HughesNet. Even if atnt wouldn't have been able to come out I was cancelling any way I could use my phone with a hdmi cable and not pay anything for internet before I sit here and watch a hour long show that took me 3 hours to watch. Please just get unlimited internet on your phone and hook a hdmi cable to it before getting this service. It's a pain and a hassle and prices go up after a year. You will waste your money on something that don't work.

Buyer Beware
March 14, 2022

Buffering is a consistent problem, and slow internet response for internet service. The contracts are a must to keep you tied to very poor service. You will have to pay to get this awful service as well as pay to get rid of it.

First, no such thing as a free installation. Just assume its going to cost $250 or more. Then you have to deal with super slow speeds and horrible service. We called and canceled service, but they kept billing our credit card! Had to cancel my credit card, then they turned our account over to a collection agency. Horrible company, awful people to deal with. STAY AWAY! DONT SIGN UP!

I signed up for this service two years ago. Out of the 2 years, it has maybe worked for 6 months of and on. Called, called and called kept being transferred to another agent to better assist me. Finally asked to speak with a supervisor, they were conveniently never available but would call me back. Never received a call. They schedule a technician to come out to fix the problem. Drove 180 miles one way to my second home to meet them, only to be stood up after they changed the service day two times. They rescheduled the tech again, only for the tech to change the service day again and then again, no showed. This happened a third time when they rescheduled it. I kept getting the runaround from their agents and I finally cancelled the service at the end of the two years. They were going to send me a mailing box to return their router. I verified 3 time with the agent to send the return box to my billing address not the service address because I'm not at the service location all the time. No return box yet, so contacted Hughes Net again. Well, they sent to return box to the service location where I do not receive mail. They say they are unable to make the shipping address change that I had to. This has been 2 years of hell; do not use them they do not care. My friend a short way from my cabin got Hughes Net too right after me. He is in the process of terminating his contract as well because of service issues.

The worst service I think I have ever received. When. My reception dropped from tree growing they wanted to charge $125 to fix my reception. Now trying to cancel I have been waiting on the for for 45 min. They charged me for the month I had no service and the guy I talked to on the phone was extremely rude and insisted that I'm paying for a service not a product even though I can't recieve service. Do you self a favor and don't use these people.
