I have gone to the same H & R Block location in New Jersey for 50 years, and have dealt with the
Same Tax Preparer for 20 of those years. This year I had a problem with my 2020 taxes in that the
IRS wanted an additional $1,207.38. When I spoke to an H & R person on the telephone, they said
It probably had to do with the second stimulus check we did not get. However, when I went to the
H & R Block office to discuss this issue, I was met by Ray, a much older man who claimed to be
A master tax preparer, but seemed very confused and was not able to answer most of my questions.
He agreed that the H & R Block computer system made a mistake in its calculations, and that I
Should have been sending in quarterly payments during 2020. I told him that I never was told that
In all of the years that I was going to H & R, but inferred that I was not telling the truth, and that the
Law says that I am responsible to the errors. I told him that it was H & R that was at fault as they
Were the consultants who are suppose to know the regulations and have better equipment. I asked
Him about at least paying to the Penalty of $216.00, but he said it could not be done, but maybe
He could get me $10.00. He also claimed to be a lawyer, which was one of the first clues that he
Did not know what he was talking about. As a valued customer at the same H & R Block office for
50 years, and with all of issues being the fault of that company, I was treated very badly. For my
2021 taxes, I will be looking for a more professional organization. Harold Nolan
I have been going to H and R for years. Never had an issue u til last year I received a letter from the IRS saying they messed my 2018 taxes up. When I contacted H and R due to paying peace of mind it was never taken care of. I had to go to 4 different offices, I was told the person who did my tax return that year retired and to find out he as not retired but still working at the same site. It took over a year to finally have it filled for peace of mind claim and I was told it was denied. How it was denied when I brought all the tax returns to them and paid peace of mind I don't know. But I am not having to pay a lawyer fee to have H and R sued and make them keep there peace of mind contract. This is unprofessional and a straight out lie because then everyone pays for peace of mind and they don't keep there end of it when it the time comes and they mess it up. Do not go to H and R they don't stand by there mistakes and drag out the process until you either give up or pay for a lawyer. I hope this helps someone from making the same mistake I did and having to pay lawyer fees to have H and R stand behind there word and contracts.
I had my taxes done and discovered when I got home looking over my paperwork that the H&R Block agent had made a mistake. I called immediately and could not get an appointment until a week later. Another agent looked over my taxes, agreed that there was a mistake and filed an Amendment. It has been to date 22 weeks since the Amendment was filed and I still don't have my refund. I had to pay $204.00 for my initial appointment and even though the mistake was theirs I could not get my money back!
Customer service always wanted to argue with you about your money, and often refuses to help you altogether. They get their jollies off of being bullies, and treating you like you are dumb.
I have had several unauthorized charges, and they WON'T do anything about them. I am being told, "I cannot contest the charges."
It's my money! Don't tell me I can't contest the charges! Your fraud department says I can! Often get off the phone crying because representatives are so incredibly rude. As soon as I can afford it I am taking my business elsewhere. 10+ years of business with them. I'm done being treated like this.
I never felt so disrespected to have given some the maxinun amount of money and even more money the lady never showed did not apologize made me lose my loan I'm for sure hr block will never get my business again to many errors at important time.
Original tax prep estimate went from $250.00 $350 when finished. They had all the forms and statements prior to giving me a binding estimate as it turns out it cost me $100 more an ESTIMATED. I complain to management I asked for the hundred be refunded they told me they would get back to me I never did they are also Liars and cheats... BEWARE
I received an email setting an appointment for me to have my taxes prepared by H&R Block. I accepted the appointment, only to be contacted and told that the preparer needed to change my appointment. I then set another appointment and was again contacted to change time and date. Finally, I set an appointment via hrblock.com to go to my local office on a certain date and time. HRB sent me a text message confirming the place/date/time of my appointment, but when I arrived as scheduled, the office was permanently closed! I had to waste even more time travelling to another office, and even then could not get an in-person appointment. They offered to fax my documents to some preparer in some office who would hopefully get the returns prepared in time. No discount or consideration was offered to compensate for my time/inconvenience. Worst part is, I found out that the office at which I ha scheduled had actually been closed BEFORE I made the online appointment! Yet no one called to let me know. Very disappointing!
PSR Failure
That level of error message is what you get from this awful software. Then you get to call an automated support line, get directed to the wrong department, wait on hold for 2 hours before you find that out, then get transferred to a different department to wait on hold for another couple of hours.
PSR Failure means "your email has characters that are in the email standard, but that we do not accept because we're not good at writing validation code".
Hr block tookmoney for online tax filing but the site cant handle the volume so customers cant log in to finish returns. Block knows about the issue but has not even fixed it or compensated customers. Block is bad, used to be ok.
They scammed us out of money! They are rude, belligerent and absolutely awful! Be warned of Elaine Shore at the 725 River Road Edgewater NJ office. The office manager Glenn Bloom is also rude. Please take your business elsewhere
We went to office in York Pennsylvania. We just needed to refile with an amendment. We dropped or tax return and additional info off to Mary (Kate) last Sat. With a pickup date this Sat. When we got there no one had even looked at our taxes we said we would come back in an hour but we no sooner left then Mary called to say she needed additional papers. We stopped by picked up our stuff and are doing it ourselves. DO NOT RECCOMEND!
They charged me$ 304.00 for 20 minutes work. Would not recommend to anyone. Price gouging for sure. Always ask for an estimate before you start. I do not know how they get any repeat business. I would have given them 1/2 star if I could.
I was ripped off like thousands of other people. I want my 68.00 and I'm not going to stop until I get it.
HR Block adds paywalls to force to upgrade to unnecessary services. It alleged the need for a Schedule B form due to a $20 dividend income (when the need according to the IRS is for +1500 in dividend income) and for a Medicaid form that was only required for +250k income which was not the case. Without upgrading (a cost that ended up to be +16 for federal and 50 for state) it would not allow me to file taxes online (even having already a paid version). I tried contacting customer support both online through chat and over the phone and they knew nothing about tax requirements and were not able to bypass the system. Once I finally gave up and agreed to pay more (as I already had spent hours filling the returns) - the requirement for those forms magically disappeared and I was not required to fill any additional form and was good to fill online. This is a SCAM - introducing false information to force unnecessary upgrades to the service, should be fined and regulated.
I have used the free version of H&R Block online for many years with no problem. This year (for tax year 2020) I needed a form that wasn't in their free edition so I had to "upgrade" to a paid version that cost around $50.00. Little did I know then that this $50 upgrade did NOT include state filing. For that I would have to pay an additional ~$50.
My state filing is very simple. So instead of paying $50 to H&R Block, I downloaded the state forms and filled them out manually. It took all of maybe 10 minutes at most.
In my opinion all the tax software programs should include at least one state filing for free.
Absolutely horrible customer service. Don't even try, or waste your time trying call H & R Block customer service. The customer service reps were rude, disrespectful, and don't care about resolving your issue, they will just pass you on to another customer service rep, or put you on hold for 30 minutes to an hour. Do yourself a favor, and do your taxes with any company besides H&R Block.
Awful interface, good luck getting any help from anyone other than the useless virtual assistant. Despite using them for the past 6 years (because of the convenience of having my info carried forward), they absolutely screwed me this year & there is no way to reach a fkng human to straighten this out. Just did an amended return and can't even print it because every page has the "Client Copy Do Not File" on it. Horrible, frustrating experience. I hope this company fails miserably.
Waste of time and money. I wouldnt suggest H&R Block to anyone. The customer service is utterly disappointing.
I went through H&R Block for three years this year I will never go back to them worst experience ever I still haven't received my taxes after 25 days and I did a direct deposit and electronic file. IRS said they screwed up for another have to be re review
I made my appointment online for an in-person tax appointment for Tuesday 3/2 at 3:00pm, and received a confirmation text of my appointment. On Monday 3/1 I received a 2nd text reminder/confirmation of my appointment. Upon arrival at my appointment on Tuesday I was told by (the person whom I was scheduled to meet with) that I had to drop off my papers. I replied that I made an in-person appointment because I needed some help with understanding what was needed, and had some questions with regards to the recovery rebate credit since I never received my 2nd stimulus payment. At that point she told me that they aren't doing in office appointments and that I could reschedule at another location. I don't understand why I wasn't informed about any of this when I made an appointment in the first place – or why this option is even available for scheduling online if they are doing them at this location. Why was I not contacted prior to walking into my appointment? I was told me that there is insufficient space for in person appointments at their location.
At this point, I felt I had very little choice but to leave my papers – but wasn't sure what information would be needed. Instead of going to her desk to review, we went through all my private documentation in the lobby area – no further apart than had we been at a private cubicle. I turned all my paperwork over to her and presented her with a new customer coupon for $25 off my preparation. Pricing of the preparation was not discussed, but when I scheduled online I saw $79 advertised.
When the accountant called 3 days later to tell me my taxes were finished and ready to pick up, she informed me that the preparation cost was $439 after my $25 coupon. This was very upsetting to me, and I couldn't understand why these extreme costs weren't discussed prior to leaving the paperwork. I have spoken with several other people who have used H&R Block for their tax preparation and they all confirmed that this is extraordinarily high, and about twice what they have paid. I feel strongly that I was taken advantage of and that this pricing was extreme. I don't feel this pricing was fair, and even know people who have had their much more complicated business taxes completed for less.
Answer: Used to be legit. Does not feel like they value customers anymore.
Answer: No success stories, this year was a fiasco and Block did not lift a finger to fix. Arnold Wipf is the worst
