They fail to let you know about the "service fee." A day later I noticed that they took $85 OFF MY CARD! For 3 days now I have tried getting the money back but there customer service numbers put you on hold for 20 minutes and the people helping you barely speak English so you can understand how hard it is to figure this out.
Homeaway is awesome. You deal with the home owner and homeaway you just pay to put the vacation home on. The people are very helpful I never had to wait to talk to someone at homeaway plus you talk to a real person! So the negative rewiews would have to be lack of communication. With the people who are trying to rent. Ask questions most homes you pay the cleaning lady and you bring your own lines. I think it's stupid to bring your own linens but you do at some homes. So bottom line homeaway is awesome
Have tried contacting Customer Services to enquire about a property been calling no for 2 weeks at different times of day with no answer at all. After reading these reviews I think I will go back to Owners Direct or AirBNB and stay away from HomeAway... Terrible way to run a business..
I booked through home away 5 moths prior to my stay. When I landed at 5pm the night of my stay I still had not received the check in info from the owner via email or phone. I called the owner 5 times, left 3 voice message, sent a message through their app, and tried unsuccessfully to locate the property myself all between 5 and 10pm. Had they bothered to place their help number anywhere in the app I would have called them too. It was in the mid 30s and raining. I went a found a hotel room in the next town about 35 miles away. I was laying down to sleep when the owner of the Red Pheasant in Moscow Idaho finally bothered to return my call at 11pm. The owner was willing to only refund about 40% of my fee. I though no problem Book with Confidence Guarantee Home away will take care of this. Wrong. That guarantee is crap they did not even try to help I was told to try and work it out with the owner myself. Complete BS will no use them ever again.
This property is grossly misrepresented in your advert. It is advertised as being wheelchair accessible. It is not. On arrival two steps need to be addressed to enter the property, to get to the villa another flight of steps or manoeuvre your wheelchair air up a grassy bank. Once in the villa there are two steps down into the toilet, which is very small with no room for a wheelchair anyway. The ground floor bedroom is the converted garage down by the gate. The villa is advertised as being 5bedrooms, which technically it has, but in reality this is a 3 bedroom villa with a family room, as the 5th bedroom is a child's room accessed through the main bedroom in the converted garage and sharing a shower room also accessed from main bedroom. Totally unsuitable for a family of all adults (ages 79 to 31)with one disabled.
I'm extremely disappointed with the CUSTOMER service during Covid19. I have been told numerous times that Homeaway is sticking to original cancellation policies during the time of covid19. Well CEO FL just got a stay in place policy for 30 days so my Homeaway that was booked this month I legally can't even go if I wanted. The only reason I canceled was because of covid19. My event got canceled. So maybe you guys should obtain a new policy. Let me make this clear, Airbnb has definitely surpassed your customer service during this time. I will not forget this for my future bookings.
Sincerely, Jennifer Donham. Please feel free to contact me when you start taking care of your customers.
I work with Airbnb, Trip Advisor, and Home Away. Home Away pays very late and beyond even the time period they allow for Owners' funds to be deposited. The other services i use are very prompt payers. Because of late payment and more difficulty using their web site, I would recommend using serives other than Home Away.
Rented a cabin in MN. The cabin was great but the processes was a nightmare. We got over charged for additional guests even though it says It accommodates 14 guests. Anything over 8 was charged an additional $50/ guests. Even though we anticipated 14 girls only 9 came. We still got charged the additional guests charge and emailed the owner and customer service about asking for a refund which was completely ignored. It also took 24 days for our $1000 damage deposit to be refunded. The entire set up and run around was extremely frustrating. And my advice if youre going to book threw Home Away do yourself a favor and just say you have the min guests!
They hit my site from you because I have not gone on to my calendar. I go onto the site all the time but because I did not do it 4 60 days they disabled mysite. On top of that they never told me they did it for three weeks
Hey if your a felon, homeaway is the place for you! Book your apartment. Keep your hoodie on so the video cameras don't get a good look at you. You and your friends stay for a few nights in Luxury! When the charge arrives on your cc bill. Just say: "Hey creditors that wasn't me!"
The owner will unlikely dispute it bc disputes come in, not as homeaway but as 'yapstone'. Yapstone also charges a $25 middle man fee to dispute the charge on the hosts behalf - with no guarantees so the host will likely loose everything + $25.
If the host is savvy and disputes your charge. Don't worry. Even though Yapstone claims they're a middle guy working for you, the host, they will treat each dispute from the same felons as a brand new dispute, so the host will have to start all over again and again; so, will eventually give up and loose everything!
That's what they did to me. I LOST $1700+ dollars..
After canceling my reservaction on 04/02/2020 due to the pandemic right now, I was told it would take 1-2 weeks for my refund. Today after speaking with Michelle who refused to give me an employee ID or any information besides just Michelle I was advised it would be 4-5 weeks for a refund. I will never use this site again, the communication is terrible. 100% disastified
We ended up in a scam house on the Cape this summer. Called customer service immediately because we knew we could not stay there. To make a long story short, they jerked us around, every customer service person has a different and equally unhelpful response to our problem. We didn't stay in the scam property and homeaway refused to refund our money even though they tout their supposed "book with confidence"guarantee. Absolutely horrific. We booked a last minute rental through a local real estate agent instead (when homeaway absolutely refused to help us) I will never NEVER ever again use them. THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.
The property owner was a nightmare. A category five hurricane was heading to Florida, but he wouldnt respond to messages through Homeaway. I tried to call, and the call went straight to voicemail which was full. When I finally did reach him, he tried to rip us off by claiming that October was PEAK SEASON and would need $74 more a night to transfer our rental week. Hilarious. He even had the nerve to say that his housekeepers reported that someone had obviously stayed at the condo during our week. I had to dispute the charges with my credit card to get my money back. He caused me a lot of aggravation. Homeaway wouldnt even post my review since it wasnt flattering. Save yourself the hassle and stay away from this company.
Found a Kelowna "highend" home thru HomeAway didn't pay thru HomeAway but met and paid the owner direct. 1100 Westpoint Drive was a nightmare! They control the Pool, AC remotely the house was 27 degrees. The house was filthy with dirty linens, dead bugs everywhere. After staying for a month and bringing up the issues they started watching us on there cameras and had people take pictures of us and our kids. We paid huge cash and they were around the property watching us daily.
I contacted HomeAway multiple times and got a generic email.
I should have know with only 1 review. We left 2 weeks early after we were harassed and watched and bombed with texts. This was a long term rental gone bad.
Be careful if renting this home.
They built this home themselves with many issues they hide well.
I would absolutely NEVER recommend this company! The company charged our visa account the 154 service fee for a reservation we never made! They told me I had to cancel the reservation to get the money back - but I had never made any reservation for the chalet to begin with, and when I contacted the owner to cancel (the non-existent) reservation, he also said that he had no reservation to cancel on his end because it did not exist. It took 2 months to get the money refunded, with 6+ phone calls lasting 30min+, each time re-explaining the situation. I absolutely do NOT recommend this company!
We had booked a condo in Maui on December 4th, 2019 for travel on April 29-May 7,2020. As the world was experiencing travel bans because of Covid19, we were informed by Hawaiian Air that they are banning all traveling to Hawaii per the Governor's order, therefore we had to cancel our HomeAway. I was very upset that our host was from Maui Vista Condos (Tricia) Unit #2112 only wanted to refund 50% of my total amount paid in full. Per government mandate, we had to cancel but she wanted to keep 50% of our money? This is unacceptable. There were no services rendered. I will never use HomeAway again. I am disgusted with the way they let property owners take advantage of travelers.
My family and I also lost money (over $1000) due to having to cancel due to COVID-19. We are a military family and there is a military travel ban in place. There is absolutely no way we could have traveled. The owner is refusing to refund us, and Homeaway refuses to step in.
Airbnb will withold payments even though your guests have paid they refuse to pass it on and make up all sorts of excuses and you never get your money and your guest pays them and they reap the rewards of you giving up your property to short stay guest
I rented a property for a family vacation in Orlando the week of June 15th and paid half of the money. We had to cancel due to the Coronavirus but cancelled weeks before the April 14 deadline in order to get our money back. I have called 3 different times and each time I am told something different. I even spoke to a supervisor (at least that what he said) that claimed the refund would take up to 3 weeks. The other representative told me it would take 30 days. I guess I will have to dispute this with my bank to get my money back. This is so wrong to take advantage of people especially at a time like this when people need their money.
Homeaway is awful to their owners. They always side with the renter and do not protect their owners from ridiculous reviews. They will not refund your money if you want to stop listing. They are playing a stupid game to rate the owner. How about just listing the property and taking your big fee to do so? We are not kindergartners that need to be graded!
Answer: Homeaway is charging a fee for paying through them. They said it was to improve marketing and because renters like to pay through them. As some one who is listed through Homeaway I find this practice destructive both to the owners and renters. I encourage all potential renters to contact the owners directly and pay us directly. Owners already pay a fee. If the owners want to be listed in higher tier you have to pay more. To me they are just trying to find ways to make more money at both the owners and renters expense without improved service for either.
Answer: Go elsewhere. Sadly what started as a very good site many years ago has evolved into an unethical monopoly that has a sole interest. Profit. They do not care about owners or travelers. They exist to remove you from your money, and will say one thing and do another. They have lost the faith and trust of both, and it is well-deserved. Anyone coming on board with any of HomeAway's companies as a traveler or host would be foolish considering their underhandedness.
Answer: That's a toss up... Kinda like eBay with sellers and no feedback... In general... I don't trust Home away anymore than I can throw em... cuz they are gonna side with their rentors and not you...
Answer: No, they won't. Worst agency I ever dealt with. Warn all you friends. They should be put out of business.
Answer: HomeEscape.com is relatively new but with the new Expedia Service charges on HomeAway/VRBO, the homeowners are moving over to HomeEscape in droves. Over the next year as the HomeAway subscriptions expire many of the homeowners will not renew with HomeAway if HomeEscape turns into a good alternative. In general we (homeowners) are pretty upset that Expedia is going to make over 4Billion in added income from our customers just in the first year of the fee, if folks continue to book through them. Many of us will feel pressure to lower our rental income but if you only knew our expenses you would know this is not really a big money maker for us - personally, these fees will actually put us well into the red. So, for our guests and ourselves, HomeAway will no longer be a site we do business with once our subscription expires. And, though we used to rent through them at least once a year, we're done with that as of now.
Answer: This was my first and last experience using a similar service. I have been traveling for years, staying at hotels, with no problems. Given my experience with homeaway, I will only use reputable hotels from now on.
Answer: If I were you I would run as far as you can from these people!
Answer: I don't think our guests are aware of the rip-off yet. Look what it took for us to figure out what they are doing.
Answer: Avoid them at all cost! They're criminals!
Answer: Trust me, Homeaway does NOT assist you contrary to what you might think of them as sort of a back-up if there are problems. It's the worst agency I've ever dealt with.
