HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

It cost me 350 dollars just to be on the site, another 25 per lead(80%) were fake and you can't argue with them on this or they send you to collections for not paying them. In my 3 months of trying them out I put my leads on hold 3 times just so I wouldn't be charged outrageous fees for nonexistent clients. In my experience they are a shady company with terrible customer service. If I could I would rate them negative stars.

I tried multiple ways to search their site for reviews of remodeling contractors, and simply could not find what I was looking for. It appears that they're not interested in making that an accessible search... their clients ARE the contractors, so they likely don't want end users to see the reviews of those contractors.

Home Adviser for job leads. They charged me for leads I never even contacted or even spoke to. Do not waste your money on their service. The couple of people I did speak to were just curious what a job would cost but weren't even ready to start a project and yes you will still have to pay home adviser for that lead.

Job estimate
September 4, 2018

. Home advisor's contact estimate for a job of over $700.00 was easily replaced by another more local company by $250.00. This for garden work. We were, and continue to be bugged by phone calls from all kinds of their people that we never contacted.

I tried HomeAdvisor and noticed we were incompatible.
According to HomeAdvisor's Return Policy you have 72 hours to change your mind. It been three months since asking for my refund, and HomeAdvisor is still sending me leads outside of my service area. Not one of my leads have been inside my service area.
1. The website platform is very difficult to navigate (I looked for almost an hour trying to change my service area before I found out you have to call HomeAdvisor during regular working hours to change my service area). When I signed up, I was completely clear about my service area.
2. You have no control over your service area.
3. They charge you for leads you do not get.
4. They send you leads from service areas outside your service area.
5. They promise much but delivers nothing.
Complete waste of time and money.

COMPLETE RIP OFF
August 28, 2018

What a scam! Listed my services as only being available Monday-Friday. I was receiving calls day and night seven days a week, and they were charging me each time they called me. I attempted to fix that but the problem continued. WORST PROBLEM. THEIR CUSTOMERS EXCEPT FREE WORK! I got a job from Homeadvisor, went on the service call, fixed the problem, I charged my regular service call fee and the customer threw the check at me and swore at me. He expected a free service charge. He then left a review of my business but neglected to say he expected free services. It's been a year now since I deactivated my account with them and they just charged me $300 for yearly membership.

Bad for business
August 27, 2018

In the year that I have had an account with Home Advisor they have provided 19 leads (my account had leads shut off for about 8 months of the year). Of those 19 leads only 6 of them were ready to proceed with the work, or 31.6%. My company has paid Home Advisor over $1,500 in a year to get leads that were less than one third qualified. We are a small company and cannot afford to pay an average of almost $85 per lead, of which only one third are viable.

Dissatisfied
August 12, 2018

In the beginning Home Advisor was great. They listened to customers like me who is a small window cleaning business trying to make a living and they understand that if a lead is a no go for example customer cancels the work because they changed their minds, home advisor would give credit for that lead because I didn't make any money from it. Now that they've got big and more clients, they won't give credits for any reason. Customer service reps are rude like you're old news. If I didn't have a contract with them, I'd quit them already and do my own advertising it would be a lot better than paying for a lead that didn't come through due to no fault of my own. In my opinion Home Advisor got greedy and since they've grown in clientel, they raised membership dues in drastic amount and poorer customer service experience. I rate them a 2. Hopefully this review will open up some eyes at cooperate level and start focusing on customer first philosophy because at the end that's what's going to matter most because of competition.

DO NOT USE... EVER
August 9, 2018

We went on for a quote for someone to look at work needed for our house. 20 min later a company just shows up demanding money without us even knowing who they were or what they were going to charge. No email beforehand with up to 4 options for contractors, no bids or contracts... nothing. Everything that is stated on their website is a complete lie. Their customer service was horrific and when we asked to be transferred to corporate to put in a compliant we were disconnected. Do not even go on their website! This company is scamming it's customers.

The arbitration referred by HomeAdvisor to fair claims is an underhand plot only to benefit contractors, as to avoid claims out of court filed in respect of other party.

HomeAdvisor cannot make money without the contractors so it's apparent that they will make you go through the process of a bogus arbitration hoping claimant will draw away from the process. But, when you stay with it soon after they'll put an end to it in favor of their own other party.

Despite the evidence to the contrary, the arbitrator would still rule in favor of the opposing party only because I didn't have a witness. This is not an opinion it's fact.

Signed up with homeadvisor because a sales person from their offices called me and said there was an overflow of work in my area. I decided to give it a try because work was slowing down a bit.

DO NOT SIGN UP!

They charge astronomically for their leads, their leads are mediocre at best, and the refund process is nill.

I paid $300 for a year membership and now after a month of being dissatisfied, they say too bad.

Not worth it!

CONTRACTORS BEWARE!
July 26, 2018

I am a "pro" (contractor), who signed up for HomeAdvisors lead service. I was initially told the leads would cost anywhere from $20 - $45 a lead, but they were prescreened, valid leads. After 30 days of no calls, but a charge of almost $300 to my credit card, I called to cancel. Turned out the initial person who set up my account put me in the wrong zip codes (300 miles away). The Cust Svc rep was nice enough, and corrected the zip codes, and the leads began, but were more to the tune of $72! Again, I called, and complained that was not was communicated to me. They just apologized and said that was their formula. Like an idiot I continued with them. Then when I figured out they were billing me for leads that were bogus I hit the roof! I had 5-6 leads a month, that were either people just kicking tires, couldn't reach them or get them to call back, wanting a bunch of estimates but weren't ready, or for work that was not my listed specialty. None of these jobs were won, or any work (or money) received. When I called and questioned these charges, the "Customer Service" lady was very snide, and just said matter of factly, "Well, theres no refund for those, you win some, you lose some. We have no way of controlling that. Hopefully, you are closing more than 30%" -WAIT... WHAT!?!?! I asked to speak with a supervisor, and was told it would be 8-12 DAYS before they contacted me back. DAYS! So now these jack@$$e$ are over a $1000 into my pocket in about a months time. They are not very forthcoming with their information.
Shame on me for not asking better questions up front...

STAY AWAY! DO NOT!
July 24, 2018

STAY AWAY! First, when signing up they tell you one thing, that youll pay lead once customer choose to do business with you, then they send you leads, out of the scope of work and then you still have to pay for it, even if they dont do business with you you still have to pay. When requested refund since its not my mistake, theirs for sending me work that is not pertaining to my line of work they say they dont refund just credit or cancelled the account. Well, I didnt sign up for that, first and foremost, second, why do I have to pay for your mistake. I paid subscription but didnt know I was going to be charged automatically for something I didnt authorize and again their mistake. Worst customer service! DO NOT SIGN UP! DO NOT WORK with THEM AT ALL! RIPPING OFF PEOPLE, thats their business and motto
