The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

We called Home Advisors inquiring about how their service works. We told them we are going to discuss and we would get back to them and to not charge our credit card until we get back to them. Well... a few days later they charged our credit card the $397 annual fee. After 3 length phone calls, all three times being told I would get a refund... no refund. Then I noticed another $67 charge for leads! Another phone call telling me I'll have my refund within 24 hours for the annual fee and the lead fee... 6 days later, still no credit to our credit card. I will be calling my credit card company tomorrow to dispute the charges. This is complete bull$#*!.
Extremely upset with homeadvisor. Over a short period of only a few months they have taken hundreds of dollars from our company with little to no return. When talking to customer service they promise refunds and to help but never deliver. We were promised a refund multiple times but after the phone call they never sent it. When I refuse to get off the phone until receiving a refund they just continue to transfer me to all sorts of people and when I still didn't hang up they tell me I was lied to by their employee and they can't help me. If I were to do that to a customer I would be put on blast in reviews and they would demand their money back until they get their refund. Never work with this company
Every single day they call and every single day we tell them we are not interested in working with them, yet they won't take NO for an answer and never want to let you off the phone. They may not have a business to run but we do!
I wouldn't use this company for anything even if they were the only one out there.
Horrible over charges, bad leads and terrible customer service. It is impossible to get credit for bad leads.
We signed up with HomeAdvisor after an extraordinary amount of calls from one of their sales crew. We were told they had "lots" of work to match our company profile. We immediately began receiving leads for work that did not even match our line of work. We also received MANY duplicate leads. I finally put our account on hold as we never got one job from any of the leads after calling, emailing and texting them. The final blow was when I got charged for "MhelpDesk" this is a service I never signed up for and HA would not issue me a refund because "I did not cancel the MhelpDesk before I was charged for it" How could I know, I never even signed up for it. Anyhow I would NOT recommend anyone sign up for this service as it totally fails to deliver on what it advertises.
As a custom home builder/renovator I signed up for HomeAdvisor to generate leads during the slower winter months. The service rep I spoke to said we would not be charged for the first five leads to see if we liked what they brought in. Over $1,000 later and six worthless leads I have cancelled our account. They charge for ANY lead they send your way whether or not you contact them and the leads are not vetted/screened. Learn from my mistake and DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HOMEADVISOR.
Hired Forum Outdoor Designs LLC to build a carport & it took twice as long as it should have. They failed to cover an unfinished area & when it rained it leaked in the house. They repaired it & it leaked again. Their contract stated that they had a 2 million dollar insurance policy that covered materials & workmanship, but when we told their principal owner, Bill Schereck that we wanted to get a qualified company to do the repair work, he said that he was filing bankruptcy & the insurance wouldn't cover it. So we are out not only 30,000 that we paid for the work, but an additional 2250 for the repair. If anyone is considering hire them, I would think twice.
FYI - HomeAdvisor does not print ANY negative reviews! How are you being advised of anything? Better you should just roll the dice...
This service is worthless and they tried to charge me for leads that, when i called them, had no idea what i was talking about or never returned my calls
I read reviews of contractor and preceded with a contract. I got horrible service and after months cancelled the contract. I went to site and posted a negative review! They did not post the review and simply sent to the company! Will never use home advisor again.
They are a scam company! It's unbelievable that what they do is legal! They should be prosecuted for fraud!
Home advisor has gotten very creative and works very hard on how to screw their contractors in regards to leads. You're better off finding a pro on their service and calling them direct after researching them yourself. They have messed with how you receive leads, turn them on/off... etc. To the point where no matter what you do you will get hit with lead costs. And then they refuse to credit you unless you threaten them with litigation.
I was somewhat suspect of my ability to not accept leads that weren't a good fit for my business and was told I didn't have to accept them. Not the case... you get charged for every lead and, even if it isn't something you aren't interested in, you can't get credit for the lead. Worse still, if you get a useless lead (no response, or not ready, willing or able to move forward) you can request a credit, but more times than not, it'll be rejected. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told it would be 5 - 7 days... still no one called. You can use their system to turn off leads and there is also a way to request that someone contact you - no one ever did.
So, though a potentially decent way for service providers to get leads, not (in any way) a decent use of time or money for a home builder. Sifting through useless leads would be ok if you actually got credit, but I've spent thousands and no real prospects to speak of and, after a year, I believe that is sufficient time for something realistic to mature.
One phone call that's all it took for Jeremy, owner of Brightside Restoration to fix my problem. Honest, fair and just an all around nice young man. You couldn't find a more honest and fair person to HELP solve your problems. I have to give this company a 5 start rating. Great company to do business with...
Just look at every other view on here and theres your answer. Steal right from your banking account. Please save your money for a credible company with leads.
This is the biggest rip off I have ever experienced. Just a bunch of scam artist, do not give them your bank card, they give fake leads and fake jobs, charging you for every fake number they give you! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!
Now its going to cost me more to fix. HA was worthless over the phone. I will never use HA again. I wish I never found your website.
Lied to from day one about how the leads system work the pricing is so ridiculous, I hate paying for giving estimates, and price shoppers. I was getting force leads before the salesman had a chance to go over the entire site how everything works. I tried cancelling in the 72 hour period but it was over labor day weekend, go figure but business it was business, 72 hours should have been the next business day after a holiday. I canceled less than a 2 weeks of signing up this was a costly mistake no refund, but I'm being charged for leads I didnt want not the customer know anything about. Good job to the salesman John. This is a RIP off, all the call between me and home advisors has been recorded, my next call will be to my attorney.
I used Home advisor to recommend a Land scraper and a pool maintenance company. Both times I was met with people who were unprofessional and provided sloppy work. The pool man did not show up when he said he would and did not return calls. Work was left incomplete and safety was an issue. The pool man even threw cigarette butts on the lawn. Never again! I will never use anyone recommended by Home Advisor.
So my fiancé signed up with HomeAdvisorPro... and charged him over $900! They told him every job he accepts he can be charged (up to $18 per job) which he kinda didn't have a problem with. He finds out later that he was also being charged for the jobs he didn't accept! They're not going to reimburse him either... THIS APP IS B***S***! FALSE ADVERTISING! IT'S ALL A SCAM!
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
