HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Who did the job?
October 10, 2020

Had a leak in roof--home advisor two calls 1st very professional nice truck well dress. IRoof gave me 3 prices repair /blend/replace entire section. Went with entire section to match and looks. Came out 3 days latter different name on the truck. Was to have contract with them did not. Said would be e-mailed to me, started work. Get e-mail has wrong name/city/and repair. Contacted never got a response. I was home that day watched entire repair. Work was done as agreed---good job--. Clean up not so good lots of old pieces and NAILS. Found nails in driveway which is at opposite side of house from repair. Sloppy unload and load of truck. Tires for my car are $400. To $500. Each this could have been a issue. Owner said would stop by during repair never did. Even when I paid tech was unsure who to pay then determined it was iRoof. Next time I need any repair will do what I think he did. Get up at 6:00am go to Home Depot parking lot with sign need roof repair/gutters/siding etc. This really works. No different then the amount of time HomeAdvisor spent on the business practices of this contractor. My daughter has done this and found a contractor for all her landscaping/hardscape and is now installing a pool.
Yes he is insured and Lic.

Do not use this service!
September 30, 2020

I made an appointment to have 2 water spigots either repaired or replaced. The plumber that came out was 5 star,
The problem was with Home advisor. The sent me an invoice detailing $172 for 2 spigots and another $122 for labor. The plumber informed me that I had to supply the spigots myself when he was on site. I had to go to the hardware store and get the parts while he waited in my driveway. On spigot was repaired with seat gaskets. The other one was replaced. How is it that they would set up a job without explaining these details? The worst ever experience.

Bogus Leads- no credit
September 30, 2020

We on average pay $110 per lead from Home Advisor. We get a hold of about 50% of the leads. Those 50% some are decent and some are crappy and we win some and lose some. The problem is the 50% of the leads that we never speak to. Some customers only put in a letter as their first name or an obvious made up name. Typically those phone numbers don't work or they NEVER answer. You can apply for a credit if both the phone number and email address that the customer provides are disconnected and the email bounces back. So the last credit I applied for had a phone number that said "The person you are calling can not accept calls at this time". I applied for a credit and I was declined. So I messaged their live chat and spoke with DeAnna.
DeAnn: It would appear that the credits department determined that the phone number was in working order at the time of the review.
Me: its disconnected
Me: I just tried the number
Me: and I only applied for the credit 2 hours ago
DeAnna: What does the message say?
Me: The person you are calling cannot accept calls at this time
DeAnna: That does not make the phone number disconnected.
Me: What does it mean?
Me: That's what a phone says when they don't pay their bill - AKA their phone is disconnected
Me: There is no way to contact this lead
DeAnna: This is not something we credit for because the consumer may become available in the future we encourage our professionals to try email to get a hold of the consumer. This is not the same as a disconnect.

You have to fight tooth and nail for them to acknoweldge that their leads were Bogus. That particular lead cost me $117.01- I paid $117.01 for a disconnected phone number. What a joke.

I am a contractor and I contemplated for weeks before signing up to home advisor. They promised there would be no more than 3 contractors who get the same lead and I was told on several occasions that 4 or 5 other contractors had contacted the same home owner. I was a member for months and pursued many of the leads that came my way, I did not get one contract through any of the home advisor leads. I found most of the leads were just home owners trying to get a basic idea of cost to MAYBE do a project in the future. I ended up spending hundreds of dollars and many, many hours on leads from home advisor and nothing ever materialized.

I don't know why I went back to this site. Since Home Advisor bought Angie's list, there is a downgrade in quality. Home Advisor gives no choice as to who is given my contact details. Usually it is the contractor with the fewest amount of good ratings. I wouldn't even call them if I could see their write-up first. I liked Angie's List where I could peruse a list of business and chose who I liked. If I enter information on Home Advisor, I am bombarded with emails and phone calls from contractors, as well as Home Advisor itself. Too much hassle. And disappointment when I hire a contractor they recommend.

No Customer Service
August 10, 2020

I will start by saying that the service pro that they sent, Stanley Steamer did an excellent job on our carpets and were very professional and courteous.
I was booked out Approximately 5 weeks for my appointment. Initially it was set for 10: am. Closer to the date I received a text saying they had to changer the time to 8:30am. Ok. No big deal. On the day of the appointment 9:15, still no service people. Now on HomeAdvisor they don't tell you who they have booked for your service so you have no way to contact the actual service person/s. 9:30 am and still no one. I called my HomeAdvisor agents # and got a message, " Thank you for calling" and it beeped 3x and hung up on me. My husband went online to contact them by email and we were told they couldn't help us?! We called another # we looked up and we were told that they would transfer us to the people that "take care of that", we were transferred and the called was dropped a few minutes later. Horrible customer service. We have many home projects to be done in our new home and we will NEVER use HomeAdvisor again.

I can say I did get quick response for a concrete job I was looking to get done. Set an appointment and got a call the same day to reschedule. Home advisor call me on a follow-up so I rescheduled. Low and behold. Received the same reschedule mess 30 minutes before the 2nd appointment Torpee Creek... bad business.if you're not reliable to keep and appointment I sure don't trust you to do a good job on time. Hone advisor this contractor is giving you a bad name... I'm done trying to go through them.

Drywall disaster
August 6, 2020

Do not hire *******@dhillconstruction.com.
My beautiful new custom build was impacted negatively due to very poor drywall. From hangers destroying electrical wires to finishers not covering seams. This business cares little for home owners. I had stolen property, texture overspray on my tools, stained tongue and groove, bent screens and garbage debris left on my property. The garage was supposed to be textured too but the finish is so terrible and embarrassing, why bother. The owner owes me a refund but has yet to pay and my kitchen has 6 seams so visible I hate to even look at it. Do not go with this company. They are not quality oriented and do nothing to fix their work. See the pictures.

Do not use
August 4, 2020

I have tried Home Advisor(HA) three times all ending up with terrible outcomes.

1. I get bombarded with phone calls that start within minutes and continues for days.

2. On two of the three occasions I have gone with HA, the help received was by a handyman and not skilled labor.

3. On all three occasions, I had to seek out another contractor and have the work redone.

4. Most recently, a roofing contractor was hired to re-waterproof a balcony at a cost of over $4000. 00. I had several other contractors out and a technical rep form the product manufacture, all whom independently told me the problem was the way the contractor did the application. Now the contractor states that the decking needs total demolition and replacement and the job as been re-quoted at over $9800. 00. The attached pictures show the condition the contractor left the job from their experimentation to identify why the work failed.

I will never rely on Home Advisor for referrals as my experience has made me feel they do an insufficient job of screening professionals and thus as with me, recommend unskilled, unethical, and unprofessional labor.

Home advisor suck!
July 31, 2020

Unreliable & totally unprofessional! You can book your appt online all you want it does not guarantee a plumber will come they will just reschedule your appt without asking you first. They don't bother calling you the day before to tell you the plumber is not going to come either, so you waste a day of work as well.

Computer repair
July 29, 2020

Purchased their guaranteed price. Some idiot came out said the computers was over heating told us to purchase a glue and it would connect the cooling fans to the mother boards better. Did as they said. I called them back got another confirmation on someone else was going to fix it. Then got a cancellation stating my money would would be refunded in 3-5 days 10 days later no money. Took the computer to another company they said because of home advisors recommendation the wires are fried now I'm spending of 300.00 to have it required. Do not ever use them

Unfinished business
July 23, 2020

Are project was contracted to another company that has the worst customer service so when the man who was suppose to do the project showed up 30 minutes late and then didn't have the right tools we offered are own tools which where left a complete mess. What made it worse is that the job was not finished when they left. I would never recommend this service to anyone we paid way to much for an absolutely horrible job!
