The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

The leads that they send are not vetted. Some leads won't return your call. Other leads are just in the planning or budgeting phase not really interested in a real project. Some leads are not related to your business. You cannot get a real person to get issued a credit. Some leads I paid $75 dollars and it was like flushing money down the toilet. Their automated answering system denies virtually all inquires for refunds. Absolutely worst investment I made in my business. Don't make the same mistake that I did. Stay away from this rip off scheme.
Onique Ortega Is the person who kept calling us and Emailing us 24/7 to get us into her useless company! After we decided to join Home Advisor, she only told us we were going to pay three hundred and som just so sign up, she never explained how it actually worked she stated a whole different thing! She told us that we would ONLY get charged once the lead accepted our offer! Bull$#*!! Home Advisor would send us leads everyday long and charged for every single one and some where from services we didnt even provided like gutter cleaning? And we were still getting charged for every single one! Out of nowhere we owed Home Advisor $1,132 and the leads he sends are garbage people dont even own their properties! Its so disappointing to us! We so much regreat having to work with this ppl! Onique Ortega NEVER EVER AGAIN did she answered our calls or emailed us back EVER! Why not get back to us? We were so confused because she never explained since the begging how it actually worked she NEVER told us we were able to stop the leads or paus the acc ect. So we had so many questions on why we were been charged everytime! I personally called a different number to get transferred to her and thats the only way she got to talk to me, i told her if that was how the program was going to work than we needed to cancell she was no help! She said she was going to pause it and she never did and here we are left with no money on our bank for our rent because of her miscommunication! I hate this company and I hate ONIQUE ORTEGA! I hope youre never left with no rent money on the bank and have no idea why!

As a contractor, HomeAdvisor's sales person told us they had 20-30 leads in our area and in our line of work, but no contractors to send the leads to. Not true. We received 0-1 leads per month and usually had to apply for a credit because the leads were not applicable to our business. Regardless of the number of leads, HomeAdvisor also charges a yearly subscription of $287 (non-refundable). We cut our losses cancelled the subscription at the end of the term. The latest irritant (and what prompted me to write this review) is that they will not stop calling to try and get our business back. They call our land lines and cellphones. I have repeatedly requested to be removed from their Call List. Bottom line: I would not recommend them to anyone. They are pushing a bad service.
I have used this service for many years, since they were Service Magic, when I recently caught them sending me leads that had already been sent to other contractors 30 minutes earlier i was told it was because i was not signed up to receive every lead and it took time for the computer to separate them, so after agreeing to upgrade my service they flooded me with old leads, I then turned them off for 90 days but when I gave them a second chance they did the same thing again, It saddens me to see what this long term relationship has come to
A customer care adviser hung up on me and then stated in their notes that I had disconnected the line when I was waiting for accounts receivable's phone number. In addition, when I decided to chat online I was told it would take 8 business days for a supervisor to call me. I was put on hold for over 1 hour. I would not recommend home adviser for any home professional services provider and the leads that they provide are not always legit. When you do want to suspend your account they will do so for a max of 3 months at a time and I've had several occasions where they "forgot" to freeze my account. When I did cancel my account all my credits were cancelled on the account and I was told to pay the full balance. Simply put, a business that strong arms you to stick with them or you will pay.
I am not sure where to start since I find the way Homeadvisor targets small business owners shameful. For example when I realized that the leads where not worth the price the Homeadvisor reps refused to cancel my membership and instead just suspended it for a length of time. They only finally canceled when I called in to complain about a large unauthorized sum the debited out of my bank account, which they refuse to reimburse. I have had to file a dispute in hopes to get the problem resolved
I am a contractor fake customers cant contact them charged for leads and no contact numbers on and on
I was on a crucial deadline for yard work and made the mistake of going to Home Advisors - they made promises, provided a joke of a "range" of an estimate, which varied by over 500%, and then promised I would get a call from the service provider - when it didn't happen I tried to get in touch with Home Advisor without success - then I finally got a call the last drop-dead project day only to hear they never were able to reach the promised yard service company - "SORRY" -
Why on earth would anyone contact someone via the internet for a contractor when
They could conceivably use the same apparatus to search for the same on their own?
As a former contractor under HomeAdvisor I can tell you we were never asked questions regarding our business, past or present. So forget the idea that your dealing with a reputable contractor and the service you think your getting for free is not free at all. The charges are made to the contractor who in turn charges you the additional amount on you final bill. Trust me this is not the way to find the help you need or to expand your client base as a contractor.
I used Home Advisor to hire a "handyman." The person I hired, was to perform two jobs and quoted a $250 fee over the phone. On Apr. 30,2018, he arrived and told me he couldn't perform on of the jobs we discussed. I then asked if he would reduce the $250 fee since it was based on doing the two jobs. He said NO, and proceeded to hang the kitchen wall cabinet. He is dishonest, unethical and should not be listed on Home Advisor's website. His "receipt" was handwritten on a piece of loose leaf paper and listed the two jobs he was to complete and a total received of $250, with his "initials" scribbled on the bottom. Very unprofessional and certainly not the type of person I, or anyone else, should/would hire again. On Apr. 30, I immediately contacted Home Advisor and spoke to Justin and told him my experience. He assured me he would forward my comments to their Consumer Resolution Dept. and someone would contact me within 8/10 business days. More than two weeks went by, and no one contacted me. I again called on or about May 15 and spoke to another rep who told me he could find no record of my speaking to anyone on Apr. 30 but assured me once again he would forward my comments to the Cons. Res. Dept. Two weeks later, on May 29, I again heard from no one at Home Advisor and spoke to Amanda. She transferred me to the Consumer Resolutions Dept. and I was advised they could do nothing for me or arrange to have a partial refund issued. Home Advisors is as bad as the handyman they listed on their website and whom I hired. He is dishonest, and Home Advisors is unreliable and apparently doesn't care about their customers or their feedback. I'll stick to using Angie's List; I've never had a problem with them. Beware of Home Advisors and people listed on their website. Scam artists, all!
Tried it once. Had someone show up at my house when I was just interested in reviewing some of their recommendations. Had to tell the guy I did not agree to any appointments. Will never use again.
These people called me and called me for months on end trying to get me to sign up. Finally after talking to a colleague I signed up. I did one or two jobs and got paid for them. Then a bunch of "FAKE LEADS" started coming in and I was being charged for them. They sent a bunch of Mount TV on Wall leads and only one of them answered the call. However, when it came time to do the job the guy never answered the phone, nor did he call me back. I found it funny when another lead told me that I had the wrong number. They are just out to get your money. Run from this company like it has full blown AIDS.
This compnay is just there to suck the money out you. They sign you up for addition services without your knowledge after I brought it to their attention after staying on the phone for 2 hours, they said well, there is no way for us to confirm if you yourself didnt add this service! I asked them to check and see if I ever clicked on this service. I didnt even k wo where it is! And offered half of it back as a credit into my account!
My account has been signed up for 1 lead a week. Couple of weeks ago they called me that by signing for one lead I am missing big time! Then it has been two weeks that I have not received a single lead. They say well it is not much of a demand on your area. It is spring beginning of summer, this is the busy time of our business. Anyway, if you have spare money to spend and if you have a patience of a saint, sign up for this scam
Scam... Scam... Scam! They send terrible reviews... Just want your money... can NOT make money from them
Hired through Home Advisor for a contractor to fix soil erosion in my back yard last year his name was Shawn Powell charged me $800.00 for the job that was clearly worth around $350.00 -$400.00.
Complained through Home Advisor and their policy was to contact the contractor for their response, the next thing when I checked for his response Home Advisor deleted my post.
Beware they are trying to maintain a 5.0 rating to compete with the other companies but their reviews for their contractors can be deceptive and misleading customers in the process of trying to find a good contractor that's honest and actually do what the job right.
As a contractor this company will not leave me alone. They call at least 5 times a day after they were asked to remove me from their list. They don't ask for any qualifications, just want me to pay to be on their list. The people paying to be on their list are probably not the people you want to hire.
Home advisor is a total SCAM. Leads are all trash. I got 10 leads and 10 were trash. I then Tried to get credit for the trash leads and they refused online and cant be reached on the phone unless your a new customer looking to sign up. Once your signed up,,,, forget about getting any customer service. Grade: F minus
They send a general contractor leads for replacing 2 stones on a walkway, replacing the metal facing on a garage door and switching out a commode, then will not give you credit for the hundreds they just charged or sending the unvetted lead. And then when you call a number that is non-working from a supposed lead they will not credit. It is truly 80% ripoff! After a couple of thousand dollars, we have one or two small leads that are actually viable. Not saying we couldn't close a lead, saying the leads are so bad that the work is truly for a handyman and not a GC even after being very specific in lead management. They do not vet leads at all!
Signed up as a home advisor pro, they charge you for "leads" who never respond. I don't even think they are real people.
Your company does not do the proper research and vetting on your vendors. I hired 2 vendors from you. The first one told me you never called him back to do his background check. The second one i hired stole from me. What kind of company are you running?
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
