The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

All phone calls didn't answer after numerous attempts to call back and emails, the last customer actually answered me and told me that he posted his request 3 days ago (!) and got more than 20 calls, he literally told me "I know you're paying for that, I'm sorry, I think it's scam"
Complete scam, money squeezing from small business...
I just started my company and thought it would be a good idea to get onto home advisor. Being a responsible and professional painter, my idea was to get connected with same minded customers. I was led to be piece that I was only going to be charged for leads that I clicked on and was connected. OH NO! You are charged for EVERY lead sent. I was being sent leads for services that I don't even offer in places that I don't work. In 2 1/2 days I was racked up almost $700. That along with the $300 to sign up. NO WONDER WHY THEIR COMMERCIALS ARE ON 300 times a day!? The best part is the couple that I did click on, I went and gave an estimate, which was lower than most I'm sure other, I got no closures. Lesson learned.
FYI - HomeAdvisor does not print ANY negative reviews! How are you being advised of anything? Better you should just roll the dice...
This service is worthless and they tried to charge me for leads that, when i called them, had no idea what i was talking about or never returned my calls
I read reviews of contractor and preceded with a contract. I got horrible service and after months cancelled the contract. I went to site and posted a negative review! They did not post the review and simply sent to the company! Will never use home advisor again.
They are a scam company! It's unbelievable that what they do is legal! They should be prosecuted for fraud!
Home advisor has gotten very creative and works very hard on how to screw their contractors in regards to leads. You're better off finding a pro on their service and calling them direct after researching them yourself. They have messed with how you receive leads, turn them on/off... etc. To the point where no matter what you do you will get hit with lead costs. And then they refuse to credit you unless you threaten them with litigation.
They are thieves. I signed up with them on 9/21 and as of today I have been charged 1077. 51 for leads that I did not use or agree to pay for. When I called to inquire about this I was basically told we are sorry someone lied to you but there is nothing we can do. I asked them to pull the call where the sales rep lied to me and was told those recorded calls are only used for training? Please they know they are liars and that they probably don't record any calls because their employees are trained to lie to the consumer. I have filed a complaint with the BBB I just don't understand with all the complaints how they are still a legit company. They should be permanently closed!
This lead app is a scam. I constantly pay for leads of people who don't answer or respond to voicemails. Everytime I call in for a lead credit I get different answers on why I can't get my money back. Lead prices constantly rise for the exact same type of work that comes through. There is no rhyme to their reason when it comes to charging for a lead. If i do get credit back on a faulty lead, I magically have a new lead come through for the same cost so I'm charged anyways. I've had home advisor pro for about 6 months now, and I've probably averaged a phone call with customer support ever other week.
The one thing they do have straight is, they tell me if I can't get ahold of a lead it is not their fault so I will not be refunded because they still gave me a lead. I had customer support tell me one day that the best way to ensure getting ahold of a lead is to call 5 times the 1st day, 4 times the 2nd day, 3 times the 3rd. And so on. I laughed at her and said, so you exept me to call a lead 15 times in 5 days? Thats stalking if you ask me. I couldn't believe she told me thats how to talk to my customers. I don't recommend home advisor to anyone who owns a business.
I got four leads from them. Two were from things i didnt do. In one of them, the guy didnt answer the phone. In the last one, the lady wasnt sure what she wanted, and she said she expecting the Home Depot to call her. They just gave me a refund for two of those leads. In the other two they said it was a legit lead. How can a lead be legit when one dosent answer the phone and the other dosent know what she wants, and she was expeting another company to go there. Never deal whith home advisor just lost money.
Even if you set your budget at a certain target and they hit it, you can expect to get more, I was hit with 100+ over the amount of the lead. They straight up told me the opportunity leads that I can accept will be bigger fee leads because I'm pausing and limiting my other budget. Once I put my budget lower the leads for really small projects that used to be like 15 bucks ended up being around 40-60. They are scamming you if they don't get what they thought they could before.
This company is a scam. Do not give them your bank card, they give fake leads and
Fake jobs, charging you for every fake number they give you! T
Last July, I joined as a company to home advisor, with the promise of part of them to send me effective clients: which was a lie, they sent me some contacts, which I called and they never answered, everything was a lie. Finally one of their clients answered me, and it was a scam where $ 2,200 was stolen and that I have now in the police. And now they want to charge me $ 3,300 just because they sent me some false contacts. It is a robbery do not let yourself be stabbed by these people
I was somewhat suspect of my ability to not accept leads that weren't a good fit for my business and was told I didn't have to accept them. Not the case... you get charged for every lead and, even if it isn't something you aren't interested in, you can't get credit for the lead. Worse still, if you get a useless lead (no response, or not ready, willing or able to move forward) you can request a credit, but more times than not, it'll be rejected. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told it would be 5 - 7 days... still no one called. You can use their system to turn off leads and there is also a way to request that someone contact you - no one ever did.
So, though a potentially decent way for service providers to get leads, not (in any way) a decent use of time or money for a home builder. Sifting through useless leads would be ok if you actually got credit, but I've spent thousands and no real prospects to speak of and, after a year, I believe that is sufficient time for something realistic to mature.
One phone call that's all it took for Jeremy, owner of Brightside Restoration to fix my problem. Honest, fair and just an all around nice young man. You couldn't find a more honest and fair person to HELP solve your problems. I have to give this company a 5 start rating. Great company to do business with...
Spend soooooo much money paying for fake leads and leads that didn't have full address to go give an estimate and wrong numbers. Out of 10 maybe got 1 credited..
Just look at every other view on here and theres your answer. Steal right from your banking account. Please save your money for a credible company with leads.
This is the biggest rip off I have ever experienced. Just a bunch of scam artist, do not give them your bank card, they give fake leads and fake jobs, charging you for every fake number they give you! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!
I have hired three of the four companies supplied to me by HA. I got a call from HA about one of my three reviews. He said he had to read my review to me, ask some questions, then my review would be verified and put into my account for rewards credit. I asked why no one has called about the other two and he replied that it was an error on their part and offered to verify all three reviews. It was very time consuming but I completed all three reviews. Many months later I called about my rewards credit, they said to call Rewards Cust Service. I did and they told me to everything was approved and to look at my account in a few days to add my address. I never did for several weeks and when I did-only one of my three reviews was listed. I called and left a message with Rewards Customer Service. When the Rewards Customer Service rep called me she (ALEX) told me she was "making an exception and would pay the $50 but she had to explain why". After spending several minutes listening to her drone on and on she basically told me the companies I hired were not "Rewards Approved". LOL I told her I had hired them all from the match they sent and had called Rewards Customer Service and was told they were all approved. She did the worse thing anyone in Customer Service can do. She blamed me and told me I did NOT call Rewards Customer Service. I told her she was wasting my time, what she told me made no sense and that I would never use HA again. I have yet to receive my reward money. Then I found out they are involved in a class action lawsuit by the companies they charge to include in a three to four company group referral. I would NEVER pay for those referral odds.
Went to the Home Advisor website to get an idea about how much a roof replacement would cost. Was VERY clear about not wanting any contact from contractors at this time. Within ten minutes of leaving their website I had two phone calls and one email! That's three businesses that have my name, address, phone number and email address - exactly what I was trying to avoid. I won't make that mistake again.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
