The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Don't waster your money with them, they will rip you off no matter what.
They'll sell you information of people that will never pick up their phone, nor will never respond to your email, that means that whatever home advisor charged your credit card for a potentially new client means that you'll never get that in return.
It's a SCAM!
I spent more then $10k with those liars and got almost nothing in return, when you call their customer service they'll just tell you that they going to investigate about that person that won't pick up the phone, and then you'll get an email saying that you're ineligible for credit, to make a long story short it's bull$#*!
Of the leads I have received, a high percentage of leads can not be reached. At first I thought it was strange a consumer would go to the trouble of submitting a request then not be available, by any means. I am beginning to think I am receiving leads that are made up by HomeAdvisor.
When I have called them out on some of these to seek a credit, I seldom get the results I expect.
To be fair, I have received a few leads that have been legitimate and I have sold many of those, but this is nearly outweighed by the cost of the bogus ones. In my opinion, my association with HomeAdvisor is not sufficiently profitable.
If you have electrical problems, call J. F. Electrical, *******194. We had serious issues with furnace, microwave and stove coming on all the time and no one could find out what was wrong. J. F. Came during the arctic freeze, and he found out the solution and took care of it. We had called some well known companies to no avail. But J. F. came to our rescue, thank you thank you thank you an elderly couple in Hydes
We are a smaller family owned company and they are miserable to deal with if you are not able to babysit them charging you. If I had been able to monitor every single charge made on our five cards attached to our CC's then I would have noticed that we had been charged inappropriately over $500 the past three months. I just assumed they would be doing what is right by the contractor. The app they have does not allow you to cancel your account, and when it comes to trying to get them on the phone as a contractor... GOOD LUCK! Been holding almost 30 minutes and still havent been able to speak with anyone.
Customers looking for professionals do not understand, when you put in a home advisor request it is sent to 3 or so contractors (that home advisor is charging now 30+ dollars per contractor). The contractor is under HUGE pressure to be constantly attached to his phone and answering leas instead of actually focusing on his product.
After years with home adviser, receiving leads, some good and some false, at the beginning they sent me good but now lot of false leads
We should have a way to file a lawsuit against home adviser
You have to pay for leads even if they are bogus, or if the person already got someone. If you don't put it on pause, they send you about 6-8 leads a day (or more, depending on your specialty and area), charging over 20 dollars per lead, so you spend as much as you make.
HOME ADVISOR IS USING MY COMPANY NAME TO STEAL MY POSSIBLE CLIENTS. THAT IS THEFT. SECONDLY, HOME ADVISOR, HIRES PEOPLE WITH CLEAN RECORDS HOWEVER, DO YOU THE NAMES AND RECORDS OF ALL WHO COME TO YOUR HOUSE TO WORK? NO YOU DONT, THANK YOU.
THIRDLY, YOUR SAFETY IS JEOPARDIZED THE MINUTE HOMEADVISOR SENDS A / OR PERSON(S)TO YOUR HOME THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE INFORMATION ON.
Well, evidently home advisor really doesn't provide advise and referrals on service professionals. The minute you have a bad experience they are very quick to point out that they only do back ground checks, etc. and really don't do anything to vet their recommended "professionals" before referring them. Luckily my wife realized the guy was a complete joke and had no idea what he was doing. She told him to leave before it cost us more than just the minimum service call amount. Despite all of the details about the lack of knowledge from the service person and the fact that she kept correcting him about his job, Home Advisor will only do anything about this if their was either an incident or damage during the visit. Referring someone that actually knows nothing about what they are their to do doesn't qualify with Home Advisor as a problem.
As a contractor I know companies like Home Advisor will try to get us to join their network.
I listened to what they had to offer and we were just not interested.
After that it has been nothing but harassment for over a year.
Every time I update the so called sign up page which I never did which allows contractors to change certain notifications, the agent just goes in and changes it back to what he wants.
I've sent emails replying back stating to remove me from their list permanently but again here come the emails.
Home Advisor needs to take a class in respect and the word NO, NO really does mean NO.
First they tell you you will only be charged when you contact a customer not true. Then they give you the opportunity to get a credit for the lead if it is the wrong service, never contacted the customer, ect. But they have to approve it and they don't. They tell you, you can set the lead limit but it is never set. So I signed up to spend $500 a month and ended up spending $500 a week. Most of the people I called said they never asked to be called. Some people said they had never even heard of home advisor and were upset that I was calling them. I contacted the sales person, manager and customer service numerous times to get solutions to my problems. Never heard back. To make matters worse when you leave home advisor they sell your phone numbers and you get flooded with scam email, phones calls and texts. THIS WAS THE WORST BUSINESS DECISION EVER.
Awful for contractors. I had my leads shut off and I had 14 sent to me in a few days I didn't think I was going to get charged for them but I did. $700 later I didn't make any money and I wasn't able to get my money back either. They're legal thieves and I wouldn't recommend them to any contractor n
PLEASE DONT GET SUCKERED IN!
For contractors here is what to expect
-Very Poor Leads
-Big upfront fee
-Hard or impossible to get credited for bad service
-Traps - Acount Paused turned back on and leads charging you and cover for Home Advisor so you will think it's just from the listing you paid for.
-Zero chance of a credit if you fail to realize the service was turned on and you don't get it paused again. 90 day limit on pauses. Just enough time to forget and have it reactivate and soak you with. Charges and zero recourse.
-Slick personnel to ease you back in.
They used to have a good program years ago.
TOTAL AND COMPLETE SCAM. I figured I would be able to make some money of it and that it couldn't be as bad as people said. It was WORSE! I got 30 so called "leads" for my landscaping business and of those only 4 I was able to get a hold of and they all wanted the cheapest price. Overalls I paid them $1,259.99. I got one job that was a total sale off $330 that had a net profit of $58. Overall I lost $1,201.99 by using Home Advisor. It is a complete scam I will be telling every contractor I meet to avoid and run from it.
This service should be criminal! They first tell you that "leads" will only be charged when you have contacted the customer, which is NOT the case. They send you these garbage leads (most of the time the customer never had any intention of getting the work done, just inquired while browsing the web) and then charge you automatically before you have even opened/looked at them. They set it up so you can only pause leads for 2 weeks at a time, and then they turn back on automatically at midnight, with ZERO notification, so if you arent watching your account like a hawk, they will charge you hundreds. Already submitted my complaint to Better Business Bureau.
Home Advisor are con artists... I signed up and immediately got 3 (leads?) that went nowhere.
No call backs or responses in any way. Stay away!
I cancelled Home Advisor within two business days and they said that a refund would be given in 14-20 days. So far nothing, calling tomorrow. Scammed $400 out of me.
Cancelled my account with them in April 2018 after 3 months of being with them, they promise the world & you get nothing!
All false leads, the only ones making money is homeadvisor, now they have just renewed my membership when it was cancelled, have contacted them & no refund, bloody rip off & joke.
Stay away, they should be locked up!
60% of the customers they send me don't answer the phone, I get charged $19 to $45 per customer, depending of job type. I only get one out of six jobs they send me. Not worth the money. I basically work for free. I own a lawn care business, and I've been getting charge $27 or more on a lawn that are normally only $35 to mow. There are also lots of bugs with mobile app and website.
It's hilarious reading some of these comments by a bunch of idiots. Most people aren't running their business well. If they can't land 5 leads out of 10 from HomeAdvisor they're incompetent, not working as hard, can't sell or completely bottom feeders. THESE PEOPLE WORK FOR THEMSELVES FOR 20 YEARS MAKING $60,000/YEAR, THEN RETIRE BY WORKING FOR A LEGITIMATE COMPANY. It's very depressing. Sign up for HomeAdvisor if you're actually good at what you do, and better than 1 or 2 other guys.
Our company signed up in Feb 2018. Leads were ok at best right from the start. Probably 2 or 3 out of 10 leads were people you could actually speak to. The rest are absolutely ridiculous. Common comments from leads we called were, " I didn't ask for someone to call me." or "How did you get my number" or "I can't afford any repairs to my home." or "I thought I was calling Home Depot." The most recent bad leads were enough to push me over the edge. An adult chat line phone number was provided instead of a real number from a real customer needing a service. Had another homeowner say he didn't need anything and he was located near Niagara Falls. We are in Louisiana. Why should I be charged for this lead? Many leads never answer, don't return messages or emails, phone number is disconnected, already had the service completed (then why am I just now getting the lead), or it is people entering other people's information as a prank. Who has time for this? Had a customer tell me "Oh baby I can't afford a repair or a roof" Had another one say "Do you offer a free roof program." WTF! I have wasted more of my life calling or doing the live chat with Home Advisor to get credit for the bogus leads only to be told "Yeah I am sorry the lead didn't work out for you but that does not meet our requirements to give you a credit. So let me get this straight Home Advisor. You send me a lead. I call it twice (two consecutive days like you require) with no answer or communication with the homeowner at all. One of YOUR reasons for giving a credit is not able to make contact with homeowner but you still refuse to give me a credit for the lead. I agree with other contractors that Home Advisor is making a small fortune ripping the hard working man and women off by sending fake leads. I even accused them of this the last time I called for credit and to no surprise the employee made no comment. Didn't deny it either. Save your money hard working business owners. You have been warned.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
