The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

This company is very strainge - they don't accept negative reviews for their workers and this way continuing advertising bad workers. This is fraud. We cannot trust this Co any more.
Kunin does not have a valid contractors license. He did the interior painting of walls, ceiling, and kitchen cabinets, electrical lights installation in our home. I believe that Anatoli Kunin provided an inferior work product and may expose our home to unnecessary financial risk. He has been negligent in a variety of ways. Unprofessional. Unacceptable poor quality. The work must be redone or finished. The process has been far slower than we initially discussed. We won the Small Court to recover our money but he does not want to return money even after the Court decision. Bad performed job, veeery expensive - almost 2 times more expensive than other handymen. Very rude and unrespectful. Not recommend it to anyone else.and LAW OF CALIFORNIA CAN'T CHARGE MORE THAN $499, BUT received $5000It is illegal for an unlicensed person to perform contracting work on any project valued at $500 or more in combined labor and material costs.
Business and Professions Code section 7028 contracting without a license. The penalty for operating without a license on a first offense is up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000, plus the potential for additional administrative fines and penalties.
My cousin and I decided to go with Diamond Guard by Homecraft after meeting with Patrick Tillery for 2 hours. He was very courteous and knowledgeable with not only his company's product but also with the competitors.
I have never written a bad review in all of my adult life, and home advisor pro (for listed businesses) has brought me to that point. I am new business owner, and thought that Home Advisor would be the best way to start gaining clients, but instead they manipulated the process and found ways to charge me.
The representative who initially signed me up put me at a high budget without me knowing so they could overwhelm me with leads and charge me about 30/per lead that i didn't even get bc they send the same lead to multiple business. So they are the only ones benefiting.
After i called literally a billion times to cancel my account or at least alter my account so that i am not getting leads or opportunities, they turned it back on and CHARGED ME again!
I am so annoyed and hurt at all of this. I just a simple business owner who is trying to make a living and they took advantage of that. DO NOT JOIN home advisor. You'll be ripped off.
Scams contractors! Purposely makes their website not user friendly so that (3) contractors will get charged the max amount. When you sign up with them they say only 3 contractors are billed and given the lead but I talked to one home owner and he had talked to 7 contractors about his job through home advisor. When I signed up with home advisor the deal was that if I called a home owner at least 2 days in a row and could not reach them that they would credit the money back to my account, apparently they were losing too much money from all the bad leads they sell to all the contractors, After a year of the service being like this my lead credits started getting denied so I called them and they told me that "oh no, you must be mistaken. It was never that way" after I just did it for the last year, they still wont credit for bad leads.
They will only credit for 2 bad leads a month now, so if they sell you 10 bad leads (Highly likely in a month) they wont credit you for it now. It has even gotten so bad now with this company that I've been given leads by people who don't even own a house, people who don't want work done they just wanted to know what something like that might cost or they couldn't find the right option for what they were looking for. I've called to get replacement leads on these and they now tell me that if I talked to someone then they are a potential client and its a good lead, they will not credit. I also dropped my target spending to $200 a month because I was getting so many bad leads, This has happened twice, in just one weeks time I get $450 worth of leads. I highly don't recommend this company unless you want to get scammed out of money
The best ever. These guys are so professional. And the job they did was great. Did lighting for me. Moved washer and driver for flooring. Kenneth brown. Project manager is awesome
They will charge and charge for dead leads and not refund, as well as send same leads to multiple contractors all times of the days. Sometimes the leads have nothing to do for your line of work.
This was, at one time, a great lead company. It was called Service Magic. They changed the name to HomeAdvisor and down it went. They used to have 3 contractors respond it a lead. Now 10 or more contractors get the same lead. Drives the price down. If I get 10 leads, maybe I will speak to one. I've been a HomeAdvisor customer since 2012. It is at its absolute worst. If a viable alternative comes along, I'll drop HomeAdvisor like a baby giraffe. HomeAdvisor absolutely SUCKS!?
I hired Marin Paving out of Ansonia, Ct. To pave my falling apart driveway. From the phone call to actually meeting Victor Marini I was hooked. Victor Marini and his crew did an awesome job on my driveway. It looks amazing. They were so professional and courteous and it was a comfort to know that the job would be done to perfection. Victor made sure I was totally satisfied with the work before he left my home. I cannot say enough about this company and the gentlemen that completed the work. I would recommend them to anyone. Thank you again Victor.
I signed up to work for this company to hey customer leads.
They have charged me over $800 just for leafs without the service.
Just to sign up with them the fee is $300. This is a huge scam!
They charge all types of fees without explaining and won't refund your money. Not worth it.
These people are relentless. As soon as your business hits the online world, they WILL harass you! They keep calling even though you have told them that you're not interested in their services several times in the past. They go to the lengths of pretending to be a regular person looking for a contractor (they make sure to use something that you list that you do too)! A lady called again today! It was an odd phone number, definitely not local! So here's the conversation...
Home advisor: "Hi, is this [business name]?"
Me: "May I ask who's calling?"
Home advisor: "I'm looking for someone do do some painting. Bill told me about you. Do you know him?"
Me: "No, I don't. Are you someone from Home Advisor?"
Home advisor: "Yes, I am calling from home advisor. Would you be interested in painting?"
Me: "No, he's not currently taking on any jobs with his business."
Home advisor: "Oh, why not?"
Me: "Because he has a busy schedule with his new job."
Home advisor: "Well, would he be interested in painting?"
Me: "No! I told you that we're not interested in your services. And we have told to stop calling!"
I ended up hanging up on her because she kept ignoring everything that I was saying.
They also rip off small businesses! We have a friend whose business is very successful and even when he gets jobs from word of mouth, his billboard, etc, home advisor takes a portion of his pay for lead fees! They're a rip off and will harass you nonstop. Save yourself from the headache and don't use home advisor!
I have never seen a more despicable set of lies and con-artistry than I have with my experience with Home Advisor as a contractor. They lied about how they charge and how much they charge, ending up costing more than quadruple what was expected, and we got a ton of bogus leads to boot! They kept trying to charge even after cancelling. Never, EVER do business with this company or trust them at all! They lie through their teeth, tell you they only charge for what you choose to accept and go after, and they charge you for everything! Then they refuse to work with you and just still keep charging!
All I wanted was a simple switch replaced on a fan. All three phone calls tried to sell me a new fan. They should change the name to Home Adviser for new products only. Will never use again, couldn't give them a zero.
13 leads, only able to talk with 2, last one hung up on me, when I mentioned Homeadvisor. Tried to get credit for account online- Denied.
Called in and talked to multiple departments and explained the situation- Denied credit.
Home advisor stole 395.64 from my Company.
Contractors beware contractors beware contractors beware contractors beware contractors beware contractors beware contractors beware contractors beware
ATTENTION! THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM! THEY WILL TELL YOU ON THE PHONE THAT YOU ONLY PAY ONCE IN THE BEGINNING AND THEN YOU PAY FOR EVERY ACCEPTED LEAD. THIS ISN'T TRUE. IN 3 MONTHS I WAS CHARGED JUST UNDER $1,700 WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION. WHEN I CALLED THEM AND ASKED FOR MY MONEY TO BE REFUNDED THEY SAID THEY DON'T DO REFUNDS. WHEN I TOLD THEM I DIDN'T AGREE TO SUCH AN ARRANGEMENT THEY SAID I AGREED VERBALLY ON A RECORDED LINE BUT THEY HAVE NO WAY OF SENDING THAT TO ME WITHOUT A SUBPOENA. THEY SENT ME A SCREEN SHOT OF A RECEIPT THAT WAS CREATED BY THEM AND NEVER AGREED TO BY ME (VERBALLY OR OTHERWISE). THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY FOR LEADS AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT CUSTOMER ORIENTED WHATSOEVER.
We've had him do three projects for us so far and have been very satisfied with his work.
He is competent, thorough, neat and takes pride in his work.
I've tried using this service several times for different jobs. I get "matched" with contractors and proceed to request quotes. No one ever contacts me. I end up getting a call from Homeadvisor a few weeks later asking how the process went and in I was happy with the service. Since I got nothing out of it other than wasting my time completing the request, no I can't say I'm happy with the experience. Won't bother again.
Do not waste your money if you are a contractor. They will scam you out of money with their worthless leads. Every contractor I've talked to has said the same thing, 4/5 leads are worthless. That was my experience too and when you ask for a credit back, you have to fight with their idiotic phone reps. They don't understand anything your business so they come up with these insane prices per lead. For example, for the few legit leads I get, I get charge $30 for a job that nets me $90. Then you are in the tough spot of either bidding the job $30 higher than market rate, potentially losing the job or just eat the lead 30% lead fee. They do not care at all because there's plenty of suckers who will sign up with them.
We were told so many lies to give them money to get leads for our company. All we got was false leads, poor customer services and they tried to continue to charge my credit after we canceled our account with them. Now they are trying to send me to creditors for not paying leads sent after I canceled the account. After having to cancel the card that they were trying to bill, got a call from a sales person trying to get a different card to charge for leads I didn't want. If they have access to your credit cards they will charge what ever they want and make up false reasons for the transactions. PLEASE DO NOT LET THEM SCAM YOU TO OUT OF YOUR MONEY!
We signed up to receive leads on Home Advisor. What a joke! Less than 5% of the leads answer their phone, call back or answer email. I am being to believe these leads are fake. Home Advisor fails to tell the consumer that a contractor can pay up to $80 to view a lead. So the consumer reaches out to 10 contractors for free, Home Advisor just stole $800 from contractors. They will not allow you to pause leads for more than 14-days, again another ploy to get more money from you. Guaranteed as soon as that 14-days is up and you don't repause your leads, they start slamming you with "leads" and the charges beginning racking up! Getting a refund is an absolute JOKE and so is Home Advisor.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
