This is me showing you guys how ignorant green dot is these guys are the worst I mean the most absolute worst telephone communicators they are the worst when it comes to building every relationship with every customer I will sit there and yell and scream in their freaking ears! Where is my $340 and explain to them and every detail in perfect explanation and the only response I get is thank you sir I am very sorry for that I mean dude stop telling me thank you for something I don't want to be thanked for I want you to fix the solution my money has been taken by a Company I don't even know who is and you're going to sit there and tell me thank you that's it I am done with green dot! I am so so done with green dot and when I told them that their response was thank you is there anything else I can do for you? Sure there is you can put it where the sun don't shine I'm done

Within 2 weeks of using the card, I decided to close the acct. No customer service online or by phone, at the time. I tried again later, spending 45 minutes trying to find a person to talk to. I was finally able to contact them via email. They said they would get in touch with me within two days. (They did not.) Long story short, and after several emails to them, and researching how to contact them, they finally posted a real number I could call, from their website. I was able to speak to a person. They refused to close the account. They refused to send the small amount I requested back in a check, like they suggested. They stated I have a negative balance, that grows every month. I mentioned I followed their reply on how to close the account. They continued on and on they cannot close the account, and I have a balance. I argued NO, I had been trying to close the account since I received the card. They put me on hold, for over 2 hours...(I just went to work, so I didn't lose any time.) Beware of false claims of how easy it is to close the account, they will not let you.

Used greendot for three years, It worked ok except they kept raising the rates that they charge. About 6 months ago they changed how you activate a new card. When my old card expired they sent a new one, when I tried to activate it like the three new cards before this one, they removed the option of using using an email to receive a verification code. When I called they said they can only text one. As Do not use a phone that I can text on I can not Verify the new card. As a disabled veteran I can not get around as easy as most people. I have not been able to use my card for SIX MONTHS AND WHEN I TRIED TO IT SHOWS THEY STOLE THE MONEY THAT I HAD ON IT, EVEN MONEY IN THE LOCK BOX. As monthly fees EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO WAY FOR ME TO USE ANY NEW CARDS AND i TOLD THEM TO CLOSE THE ACCOUNT AND SEND ME THE MONEY THAT WAS IN IT. I GUESS THAT BIG COMPANY CAN STEAL AND GET AWAY WITH IT.

Scam Alert
June 24, 2020

I have an account with Greendot Bank. I had 1,025.58, next thing i know, my account only has 58 cents. I assume it was a inside job because on how the money was taken away in the first place. I reported this to them and I have had a very hard time trying to get my money back even though they are the reason I have no money in my account in the first place. They investigated and told me that i will receive a new card with the money on the card, Because its been a month since this happened and that was my rent money, and that money was the only thing that I had until my next check, when I finally received my card they tell me that I can't have access to my money because my birthday does not match with the new card they gave me. Even though the first card I have from them my birthday matches so they tell me someone put a different birthday on this new card which was a error on their part so I'm starting to see this company is very unprofessional and I still don't have access to my funds which has caused me to pass out at my job from having no money to eat then i had severe break down, which caused me to have severe Anxiety, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Depression.

I had my state tax refund check stolen and an account opened in early April of 2023. We waited and contacted our accountant who informed us of a bank account being opened under my last first name.
We called the State of Illinois Controller's office who said our hands are tide legally we cannot reverse the money from the Bank.
The Bank (on line only) no states we are sorry but the account is closed and the money (our money) will only be refunded by the originator (the agency who originally sent the check to them (Greendotbank.com).
We sent the documents and asked them to freeze the fraudulent account. They then said after 2 days of verification and processing we would get our money less a small fee.
Now they claim that we need to go back to the state.
So they are keeping OUR money even though we did and submitted all the paperwork to close it out!
Your wait times on hold are close to 30-45 minutes only to "loose" a call and have to start all over. If you are looking for a welll-run reputable BANK this isn't the one! Do Not use them!

Not the way to go!

You can't rent a car or truck with Green Dot. Green Dot holds excessive funds if you rent a car. A $19 rental and Green Dot held an additional $200! Not the car company as a deposit, but Green Dot holds the funds. If you make a change to the rental, they charge another $200! So, if you change what car you want from your reservation, they are holding $400. Change it from a two day rental to one and now $600! Here is the best part - How long after you return the one day car rental can they hold your money hostage? Four weeks. FOUR WEEKS! Holding $600 for four weeks for a $19 rental? Is that legal?
What is the worst part? They lied to me and said it was the rental company that held the funds. Three days investigation and sitting in the rental car corporate office and Green Dot finally had a manager of the manager tell me the truth. "We hold the money in case something happens to the rental." Wait! Shouldn't that be the rental car companies place? If that is your method, why did you lie to me again and again. (I hate being lied to!)
These cards may be great for a secondary "just in case" card, but don't send your kid to college with one. And DON'T use this as a primary method of money. And DON'T expect customer service to tell the truth.

Loaded $500 on to the gold Greendot Visa because I had to pay my insurance by noon the next day and little was I warned that I had to wait 5 to 7 business days for my personalized card to come in the mail before I could use any of the features... like PAY ANYTHING AT ALL or even transfer to another card so I couldn't reinstate my insurance and had to turn my license plates in AND almost lost my driver's license. The packaging did not state this. So WARNING: DO NOT USE GREENDOT PREPAID CARDS!

I WAS ONLY ABLE TO USE MY CARD 2 TIMES... THEN FOR SOME REASON, I WAS NOT ABLE TO USE IT AGAIN FOR WORLDREMIT OR REMITLY. I WILL NEVER USE THIS CARD AGAIN AND TOMORROW I WILL CALL TO CANCEL THE ACCOUNT CUZ I DON'T SEE ANYTHING WHERE TO CANCEL IN THE APP

Bad customer service

I will never recommend GreenDot for anybody because I had bought a car from Walmart I registered it I got money on it I cannot access the money on my GreenDot I cannot talk to a human being they do not recognize the number I gave them on my card that do not recognize my social security number it's all been registered and it's all been in your system and I still cannot talk to a human all I am getting is that computer I do not like that as far as customer service goes so from this point on I will not use and or recommend GreenDot to anybody if they ask me about it I will tell them to go to venmo or somewhere else

Very disappointed

I live in a personal care home where I receive assistance with living so I only receive so much money every month and sometimes I like to shop Amazon online and the last card I purchased I was unable to activate right away after hours of trying to activate it I finally got to order something for a couple family members and only one order went through the other I was told I had insufficient funds after spending less then half of what I had on the card. And I was unable to use the card again for weeks and when I did get a response of my Ballance they said I only had 2$ remaining on my card. So I tried to order a cheap ring off eBay for a dollar 99 and I never received the money back nor the order! And here I'm giving this company my SSN every time I purchase a card so who knows if anyone else is getting my SSN. What's the deal green dot how much money have you stolen or should you be called green bandits ps I do have receipts and screenshots for the appropriate time!

Was contacted by Quickbooks/Green Dot Bank asking if a charge on my QB Debit Card was fraud. It was which i I told them, so they shut off the card and did not allow the charge to go through. There were 5 other charges that were already being processed but were in a pending status on QB. The QB customer service person told me that the actual bank was Green Dot, and that i had to wait for the processing to complete in QB before i could put through a claim for fraud & get reimbursed by Green Dot. Now Green Dot is saying the charges are valid and that there is no one I can speak to in their fraud department. The 5 charges that went through were on the same date and had the same merchant name as the one THEY found as fraud. So why could they tell that one charge was fraud but not the others? When I asked the location of the merchant, they had no information. By the way, I've been on the phone for 85 minutes today and an hour the first time. The hold time with QB and then Green Dot is ridiculous. And i have not spoken to anyone in the US so i wonder how much of a US bank this really is.

I attempted to obtain a refund check for the remaining balance on a giftcard. It allowed me to hit the "submit" button after I entered my information, but nothing happened. I then decided to call the GreenDot help line (*******957)to inquire how to get the remaining balance. The representative stated that he could transfer my balance to one of my credit cards. He asked for the CVV number and I asked why he would need that and he stated that all of my information needed to be exact. I tried to get his name again but he spoke over me and with his heavy accent, I was unable to understand. Once I have him my information, I immediately received a fraud alert from Synchrony Bank. He assured me that it was not his company as he was unable to complete the transaction as my "credit limit was too high" and requested that I give him my debit card information instead. I told him absolutely not and demanded to know what the balance on the GreenDot card was. He told that I'd need to call *******411. This number is for DirectTV.

The worse

I've been a customer since 2001 and never had a problem until now they won't allow me to access my own funds they put a block on my account and won't take my ID to open wat type of company is this I called every day since December 23rd that's how long I've been dealing with this I've had people hang up on me and they're rude as I don't know what even tell me they can't transfer to where I want to who I want to talk to smh and the corporate team that is supposed to help when everyone else can't didn't so they are garbage don't put your money with them. I asked can I move my money to my son's card they told me no because my account is locked they really suck DONT USE THEM! They aren't professional and suck... if I could go below 1 star I would.

This is the worst bank in human history, NO ATMS, NO PHYSICAL BANK AND NO OUTSIDE BANK TRANSFERS AVAILABLE. There is no way to access your money other than using the greendot card. Horrible costumer service, they provide no alternative solutions. After my account is on zero I'm burning the card and forget this bank exist.
