Green dot restricted access to my card due to "unusual activity". The only activity the card had was my direct deposit from a reputable company. After 24 hrs of holding & begging them to give me access to my funds they CLOSED my account! My employer has tried to call & get my deposit back so that they can reissue to me & they can't get anyone to do it. So they stole my whole paycheck from me. I am so sick over this & have no idea how I am going to make it. I live paycheck to paycheck.
I've had my money be taken our fraud several times and had to make disputes but this company won't back it up and give my money back. They keep my money and give the excuses that they can't give it back. So far they have kept over $1000 of fraudulent charges of my money. They are the biggest fraudulent company I've ever dealt with.
Don't buy greendot if you're just looking to give a relative like $20 or $30 for their birthday or holidays. Greendot will start taking away $5.95 per month if they just hang on to it and don't use it or register it. To register you have to give greendot your social security # and other very personal information (because the card is equivalent to having a bank account basically; it's not a gift card). The site is scammy as all get out with fake, "You've qualified for a free upgrade!" type spam. Once you register the card, they charge a $5.95 fee every month so yeah, really bad idea as a gift-card for someone. Don't do it! If you just need to cash your check, just pay walmart the 3 bucks.
Greendot was recommended by my bank. There is $3.95 purchase fee but at the register a $20.00 deposit is also required. But before I purchased the card I created an online profile for my son. Immediately thereafter I could not log in. I changed the password and still had trouble and THEN I could not fully enter the username I had created. It stopped after 11 characters. I then went online and read terrible reviews and ratings. I did not purchase the card
Green dot charged me 2.95 to load 20.00 to a card. Not even 30 minutes after activating it, they immediately charged me 8.95! They should just be upfront and say the first time loading of this card is $12.00. This is how they get you. You expect that you can use it like a gift card (which they don't seem to offer anymore), and then they take $12.00 from you. Then they make it extremely hard to cancel the card, it is nearly impossible. You cannot cancel it on the webpage, you now MUST call them, they put you on hold for hours or hang up on you before you can get through. Green dot didn't always use to be a scam you use to be able to use it briefly and cancel it, at one time they let you cancel it on your security tab. No longer do they let you do this. No longer do they charge you after a month has gone by but immediately! Again beware of this scam, it is a terrible service, would not recommend it. Do not give anyone a gift on one of these cards!
It is like a broken tell them gave them right id and made it sure had clear picture and its ridiculous they say not legible I took so many pictures of it to many times made sure I took it well its a dozen times not legible. Heidi
Was sending money to someone and to receive money is a pain don't use this bank and when you call customer service is not there horrible experience with this bank. So far been scammed out of 457 dollars
On a Sunday I wanted to make a purchase and after picking up the card to find out it was useless for the purpose I bought it for. So I tried to hook it up to my bank account to find out it wouldn't link... I messaged them to find out their help was even more useless... just a piece of $#*!.
I have not been able to use my greendot card for the past five days due greendot declining purchases and I have available funds in my account and I've had the account for over three years and never had an issue with my account then when you contact them they tell you they don't know what happen and they are working on it and they aren't doing anything about it this a terrible company do not place your funds in their hands
Ive had this card for over 12 yrs and have never had any trouble! I used it as my only card for years with no issues! Ive used it every where possible. Ive needed refunds for online scams and recieved them quickly and easily. My daughter now has the card as well! Love the early payments of my payroll too!
After WEEKS of not being able to access my money. For no apparent reason according to go2 bank, the 12th customer service person told me to go into my app, lock my card, then unlock it and wait 20 min. IT WORKED! Wish the other 11 reps knew that tip. Would've saved me hours on hold, with the worst hold music ever, a lot of tears and frustration.
This card makes it hard to register, hard to collect funds, or use funds to pay! Do not use! You are encouraged to get app on phone but it helps little. Ask for online help? Forget that! And if you call, automative answer directs you to website. Vicious circle.
I filed a dispute against a merchant and the merchant released the money back to green dot However its been 3 weeks since the merchant released my money and greendot has still yet to give me my money back. They are attempting to lie and even with a reference number providing proof of my money being released back to them and still no results.
Greendot is NOT a banking I would recommend. The company is trying very hard to rebrand as a convenient banking but they're not there yet. Be careful of sneaky tactics. Here's one --- the monthly fee.
Like any normal bank, they charge a monthly fee. That's okay! But it's a problem when you pay a fee to activate the card in-store, then set the account up online, then be charged a maintenance fee days after.
One would THINK a monthly fee be charged when the Greendot account reaches ONE month. But that's NOT the case.
I needed to pay a fee online for $10.00. I added $20.00 to a Greendot card. I paid the activation fee in the pharmacy, set the account up, and was up-and-running in minutes. Few days later, $7.00+ was removed from my account.
It's unflattering. Sneaky. And very unreliable and distasteful.
I've decided to shut my account down. I'll stick to my regular credit card company. I'm no longer comfortable using Greendot.

I received a check with $69 in fees taken out. My tax refund was supposed to be electronically deposited. They NEVER tried to contact me by phone, email, or letter saying there was an issue and I NEVER consented to having a check sent with fees removed. TurboTax takes NO responsibility stating its a third party even though they choose to use them. My next step is the Better Business Bureau and possibly a lawyer to see about going after them for all the time I've lost trying to reach them to no avail.
When you are gifted a gift card you have no choice but to register this stupid card with a Social Security number and to look at all the dumb terms. Again this is supposed to be a gift card so you shouldn't have to maintain a minimum balance on any account. I believe this is a very fraudulent company. Anyway my child got this gift card and we registered because we had to And we kind of forgot about it for two years. We just looked up the account and it is in a negative balance. Basically this company just stole $60 plus more from my daughter. Again I can't stress how much of a terrible company this is. I called and canceled the account, which they did but when I asked that $60 is gone they said yes so they do nothing to try and fix it.
Got a holiday $60 gift card from relative. You can't even use the card unless you ‘signup' for a debit card. I did. After that, they charge you $7.95 every single month until it is depleted if you don't use it. Basically stealing all the gift card money back! Genius! BEWARE!
Run away as fast as you can! These guys are fricking crooks! Cost me $57 in 2 months to have this card which was immediately hacked and cost me more! Then to get my money I had to pay even more and go to a Walmart money station… if you have problems, which you certainly will, go to a Walmart and they will help you! Green dots customer service is in some third world country! Run away from these guys as fast as you can!
For some reason, QuickBooks has chosen Green Dot bank as the provider for their checking accounts for small businesses. Funds are very slow to transfer, and yesterday I placed a large order for materials for my business, and they declined the transaction and are holding my funds for up to a week with no reason given.
After 7 years of using this bank for my employer's direct depositing my pay checks they closed my account saying it was a new system. They said I can keep getting employer direct deposits and keep using the account they would only send me another bank card, than after the closing they said no you can't keep have employer's deposits and you can't use the account and I can't touch my money in the account. They would process my account in 30 days and mail my balance ten days later 90 days later they have not processed me my balance they have not mailed my balance for 90 days 30 phone calls they have completely lied. They are terrorists completely evil terrorists
