Glassdoor was good in 2009, when new. But then it became big and companies started "managing" their online reputations. Companies can, and do, reviews themselves positively as many times as they like. I looked at my old company which has a HORRIBLE rep in real life and it has 4 stars on Glass Door. Obvious scam.

They didn't post my reviews, which were critical, though honest. There was no profanity, just honest criticism. This is a disservice to honest information seekers. It would seem that a conflict of interest exists here.

Glassdoor is a scam...
September 16, 2014

Glassdoor is a scam... how is possible that they do not have a single bad review... everyone think good about their work culture and there CEO who had no business sense. In case he had any brain he would have done something constructive. They are there to promote the vulgarity in the world. If you visit the review you will find some abusing words about the company and their employees. It is ok if they want to help people to express their opinion but at least check the language of the content. They have so many vulgar words on the website. I guess the CEO is very much in favor of Vulgarity hence he does not take any action for the complains received to remove such vulgar words. I doubt he is literate enough to run a company. Glassdoor do not understand how to handle complains. They are useless creatures with no brain.

These employer review sites are a great idea. Obviously, the managers bad-mouthing them don't agree, since it hinders their ability to get off on harassing and abusing their workers. They feel any worker who refuses to be a doormat is a disgruntled worker. Foxnews even put out an article trying to get candidates to not use these sites to weed out bad employers, which shows they fear it will threaten the ability of management to lure in new victims to be abused. If such a pro-management network so strongly opposes it, then it must be good for workers.
Modern corporate mangers have become sadistic bullies who get a perverse pleasure out of harassing and threatening innocent working people who are struggling to make a living and support their families. They abuse ‘performance reviews' as an excuse to harass, bad-mouth and even slander their people. After the employee leaves, they use the ‘reference' system to continue harassing and slandering their ex-employees.
Management whines that employer review sites turn the tables and give innocent workers a chance to weed out bad and abusive employers. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.
Companies say only disgruntled employees complain when their boss abuses them. Get used to it, employer review sites are here to stay. A good employer treats its people right with fairness and honesty so they don't become disgruntled. Complaints from disgruntled employees show that the employer is at fault, not the employees. If you don't want workers calling you a bad boss, then don't be a bad boss.
The only problem with indeed is that you have to hunt some to get to the employer review. Ideally, the average rating of the employer would show up at the top of the page showing the job offer. It's not that hard to find the review, but it still could be easier. Some people using the site might not even realize that a rating of the employer is even available on indeed.

The site has misguiding reviews of even the best companies!. Their marketing strategy is get some few super bad reviews and then encourage the company to invite positive reviews from its employees. In the end their network grows. This is like first get a single star and then ask the company to get better reviews both biased in either way.

I give 2 stars because of some strong biases I experienced with them, but the overall idea of Glassdoor is necessary and welcome.

glassdoor.com is a good idea because of the possibility for employees and job seekers to know the real truth about corporations in a world where information is controlled and manipulated by these corporations. Especially on the internet.

But, as always, they sell their services to companies who happen also to be the same companies that are reviewed in glassdoor.com.

Conflicts of interests? There are some of course,

While most of time it's still possible to tell the truth about an employer, there are some "untouchable" companies like google.
If you publish a bad review about google, the chances are it won't be posted or you will have to change it completely.

It happened to me, after google lied to me about a job offer they pretended to be based in Germany while in fact they were recruiting for their call centre in Dublin, Ireland.
The job description was crystal clear about the location, Germany. It is called false advertising and it's illegal.

Google is a specialist of false job ads as they post hundreds of them every months that don't correspond to any openings. They just justify the existence of their HR services, look healthy and collect profiles and data.

But, telling this to glassdoor.com is an anathema and duly censored.

Of course there are also fake reviews from marketers or management of the companies who want to have high appraisal while they are sordid places. Inversely, there are also some competitors trying to blacken the reputation of their opponents.

But the large majority are just employees or job seekers who are telling what they experience, or have experienced with companies through their reviews and most of them are fair.
There is no reason why it should be a one way system. Corporations are demanding references and are deeply checking on employees and candidates. Employees have the right to have the same demands.

Absolutely terrible
June 25, 2014

Absolutely terrible. Gives a soapbox for disgruntled employees to write defaming and incorrect reviews. Responses by the company are deleted. There is no right of reply. As a consequence the reviews of the company are not accurate. Except Glassdoor which has wonderful reviews of itself and its CEO...

I am working with a few companies to try and bring other companies against glassdoor for their scam of posting inaccurate postings to hurt originations. Would you mind sharing with me where you used to work and saw this being done against said company? I would like to see if your old company would like to speak with an attorney to get glassdoor to stop with its scam. Or you can have them follow on *******@glassdoorisascam

Glassdoor is unreliable for company reviews. Spread the word. They are only publishing what they want to most likely based on their relationship with the company involved.

glassdoor.com is a scam as 3 full pages of bad reviews vanished over night as Walker Advertising became one of their corporate members and replaced all bad reviews with more favorable ones. Now their revolving door policy is hidden once again!

Glassdoor is only interested in helping you as a business if you advertise with them; if you just need general help, GOOD LUCK! I have contacted them over 8 times in a 3 month period and only got a call back (within hours) when I stated my need was sales. (And no, we are not interested in posting jobs with you for $10k+/year.) Also, there are 2 company sites for us-we need 1 page only for obvious branding issues. Glassdoor will only delete the imposter account if it makes sense for their search results (wow). However, I still have not been able to even request that they look at the duplicate page because no one will get back with me now that we aren't moving forward with their advertising program. I really like where I work now, but if I am ever in need of a new job, I will not trust anything on Glassdoor's website-they are very self-motivated. I have only been one end of this spectrum, but I can definitely see how the other negative reviews here are true.

Glass door is a scam and will take your review and hide it if it is not what the employer wants you to see. They are in fact paid off by the companies that they are supposed to review. How do I know this? I wrote a review of club colors just a week ago and they decided to keep this obviously fake review that says it's the place to work at the top. The review was written a year ago! So I wrote them a review and sent it to them. I said that eventually people will find out that your services are a lie and that you are indeed payed off to pad a job and no longer will consider your services viable. They must think that people are to dumb to figure it out.

Companies are able to manipulate the reviews so a horrible place to work looks wonderful. I even pointed out fake reviews to the site and they didn't remove them, even though I had proof they were written by the companies marketing dept. Waste of time to but any value in what is on this site.

Does not portray an accurate review of business. Most posts or reviews are from disgruntled employees who seem to have it out for the company. I have worked for several companies who are rated horribly on glassdoor and can attest that the feelings of current and 99% of former employees are not the same as these reviews. I would recommend doing a lot more research before trusting the glassdoor reviews.

Glassdoor is a scam
April 23, 2012

Glassdoor is a scam.

Unfavorable reviews disappear and are magically replaced by favorable ones. Take a look at Google's cached version of this page: http :// webcache. Googleusercontent. Com/search? Hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=cache%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.glassdoor. Com%2FReviews%2FCigital-Reviews-E*******. Htm&oq=cache%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.glassdoor. Com%2FReviews%2FCigital-Reviews-E*******. KT9SUeTRQ1o&pbx=1; as of Feb 22 2012, there was this very bad review, titled ""Less learning, less interesting, more pressure, more billability: overall a slide downhill in the past 2 years"". 2 months later, poof! It's gone, and now there's this new one - "Cigital – "Overall, Cigital is a great place to work."". Would you be blamed for thinking that Glassdoor takes money from the HR departments of bad companies?

There may be mixed reviews with this site but I think it is useful because it gives one the opportunity to post reviews about salary issues or issues with a company. Of course one has to careful of the content but there is still validity in this site. Its the people who post and not the site who are the ones to blame if the content is not right. Besides the site features are still wonderful and I have found greatly useful!
