Tried freelancer for the first time and completed a project for a $250 fee and was charged a $25.00 project fee. The person who hired me never paid and stopped responding to messages... took over a week to get anyone from support to assist or respond and when they did just told me that project fee is non-refundable. I'm out 8+ hours of my life and 25 bucks and feel like I was conned by both parties.
I had an excellent experience with freelancer, because of the professional advice I was given and a fast answerer of all my need and request.
I feel really confident working with all the team of Freelancer.
Thanks for the professionalisms, focus and the involvement in my needs.
Congratulations¡¡
*Update 25th October 2017
They have issued a refund. I can't retract this review though because this is the 2nd time support has told me they couldn't refund and it's taken a bad review or taking that extra step to receive money back.
Thanks to the member of staff who has taken care of this for me though.
*Update: October 24th 2017
Recently advised that the fee refund was a "one-time" deal. So this company's policies are truly broken and preying on the necessity for freelancers to seek employment and making it more or less a gamble. I did everything in my power to ensure my client was happy before being awarded the job, and once awarded and I accepted it, my fee was deducted and the client shortly after cancelled leaving me with lost time and earnings.
This is a serious issue, no money should be taken until funding is secured from the client. I not see that any real service being truly rendered.
**update: October 24th 2017
Yet again was awarded a job after providing a very time extensive demo for the prospective client. They approved the demo and asked me to extend it. I was awarded job. Charged fee. I delivered the updated work as scheduled and they immediately cancelled job with no explanation leaving me out of time and pocket. I'm hoping someone from the Freelance team and address this updated review.
**Update September 2017
After addressing this issue through TrustPilot, I was able to contact Freelancer again and am now in the process of obtaining a refund. I shall leave this review on here as initially I was told this was not possible, but I do want to extend my thanks to the team member who dealt with this since my post on here!
2016
I used Freelancer for approximately a year or so. I was awarded one job on it when I initially started out which kept me using it.
I was awarded a job for $1000. Freelancer immediately took $50 fee from me as the contractor and the client was not to be heard of again.
Freelancer does not vet nor require client details, nor request funding of a project prior to taking their fees from the contractors, meaning you can lose out big time.
You will not be reimbursed as per their terms.
This company is a sham.
Your support man Williard C. Solved my problem fast and good. I got the competition closed, got my money back, and do now have the knowledge I need to proceed on the task
Very nice agent and fast and easy solution to my issue. Top agent. Why do I need to put 100 characters? Is this an essay? I feel like I am back in high school.
Brilliant, she explained politely and understood my concerns about similarly described projects.
I WONT be making THAT mistake (talking to anyone outside the chat on here and paying employers for work, - funny as several people did warn me and I said na its a reputable site so they wouldn't let scam artists through) again
Спасибо, за помощь в решении моего вопроса о закрытии проекта! бла бла бла 100 символов, очень приятно иметь с вами дело!
С наилучшими пожеланиями!
She was really helpful about my problem, she solved the promblem in a short time, was so kind, explain me the problem in detail,
She explained to me that it was what had happened
Excellent customer support. They solved my issue in no time after I contacted them via online chat. I do recommend freelancer
5 stars for Deana R. From Freelancer Support. My issues were solved quickly, given with explanation so it wouldn't be happen again in the future.
Antoinette B. Really helped me understand how to quickly fix my issues and explained in a well mannered way how to resolve any questions I had.
Stephanie was really helpful and responded promptly. I really appreciate that. I needed some help with contest handover and for that I needed support from freelancer team. Stephanie addressed my query and I hope the issue would be resolved in about 2 days. Thank You
Wow! I am happy for the response. I didn't know that the agent will respond to my message so fast considering the millions of people on the platform. I am honored. Thanks so much
He relaxed me (Antoinette B) and now I know that I can trust freelancer to get my money back if someone used me.
Really fast and helping.
Thanks!
She is quick and nice, and solve the problem perfectly. I am relieved in the way the issue is treated. Thanks a lot
It was very professional and respectful. The agent totally understood my concerns and appropriately addressed them to my satisfaction within a timely manner.
An excellent support team. Very fast reply, my issue was solved in a couple of hours.
I am thankful for their help.
Though it was bit late but was in detail... may be because of new process. But response was in detail which helped me to gain deeper understanding.
5 Star reviews are generated by their customer support, freelancer.com knows that their ratings are 2 Stars and work every cheating angle to improve rating, not the website/services - this says everything
Currently in minus 120$ for 2 projects, because freelancer.com rules allow employer to f**k a freelancer, meanwhile the freelancer has 0 input to the process, unless you say something that can be used against you.
You will not know about the problems of the website, until you encounter well-hidden unfair rules.
Most of the users are duplicate accounts, fake projects to lure (limited) bids and to encourage membership sales.
Answer: It is a PR platform that enables scammers to appear legitimate or verified. Freelancer doesn't care. They get a sizeable commission no matter if the posting is legitimate or not. Example: A fake ebook listing. Needs author to write 50000 words for US$ 2000. Unwitting freelancer bids and is 'awarded project' with message saying hurry up and accept. Once accepted, freelancer takes 'project fee' while you get tied up in their help callcenter trying to recoup not only the fee but potentially the fake employer gleaned from you using their platform. This site will be in the news soon. Trust me.
Answer: Hi Dejan. This happened to me in 2014, I lost a lot of money too, I withdrew the money on a Wednesday after the client had paid me $1000 in full. Then the next day, Thursday, I got a message that my withdrawal request was cancelled and the money reversed back to employer. My account was suspended and when I asked why, I was told that the employer looked like he was fraudulent and that the money might be fraud. Up to date, I am still bitter, angry and sad over that $1000 but I never got it back and Freelancer closed the person's account and that was that. So I hope this answers some of your questions and I am deeply sorry for your loss after such hard work. All the best
Answer: Freelancer.com focused on employer only, they just want as many employer and project as they can regardless of their country, verification status and deposits. However all the restriction is for employee. This is the reason Freelancer didn't stop them to post project without deposit. Almost 90% projects are fake (either posted by freelancer itself or fake/fraud employers). You have to be careful. Keep following things in mind will prevent you from fraud much. 1. Don't work for Employers from India/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka/Nigeria/Israel 2. Don't work for Employers whose name looks like Indian 3. Once the project is awarded to you, don't accept it unless the employer created initial milestone. Wait for at least 12 hours after milestone creation then accept it. 4. Ask for release step by step, don't work on next milestone unless previous is not released 5. Withdraw money from freelancer as fast as you can.
Answer: You can't say its fake but at the same time you can't just trust it fully. My point here is: people do get things done for the price but when it comes to money/payment, you can not trust freelancer. Sometimes it gets reversed from your account and you won't even get a satisfactory reason for it. I suffered a loss of 900 USD. All I get to hear that employer had some account issues and we can not disclose this any further. If you looking to work as a freelancer, go odesk or upwork and any other site first and then freelancer.com. Small incident: I worked for a client, designed the logo got the parent for it. Next day when looged in, my account showed negative balance ( payment reversed). Support: employer have acc. Issues Client: never came back or responded to any mails. Result: I worked and still in debt.
Answer: Dispute it with PayPal! Another beautiful example of why everyone hates Freelancer.
Answer: Freelancer is scam. I have very bad experience recently. "The payments you've received from your employer "-----------" were reversed due to their account issues. As a result, their account was closed" Lost over 800$. Freelancer also keep the fee for this job! Their support never answer. SCAM
Answer: Agree, do not use credit card details - freelancer is a terrible organisation when it comes to finances - they just debit your card at will, no warning, no opportunity to review the transaction, no notification of the charge - you just find out once you get your bank statement. Be very, very wary of this company - not saying their dodgy, BUT they are very devious when it comes to transactions. I think their motto is - "debit any time, just don't tell them and they wont complain"
Answer: Contact Paypal and file a dispute. I got a refund for the monthly amount that they should not have charged me for.
Answer: Good afternoon Rostyslav, unfortunately this has happened to most users of Freelancer including people who have been awarded projects. Ensure that you do not start any work or event accept a project until the following criteria have been met: 1. Project awarded 2. Initial milestone/deposit created 3. Client agrees to release the first payment immediately after you accepting the project. If they are unable to do this, tell then politely that you are unwilling to start on the project and keep looking for honest, legitimate clients. Be careful at all time on this website, even if you do vey thing by the book and the client still doesn't pay, the Freelancer support team will not help you. It is left to you to contact the client and chase the payment even of they delete their account.
Answer: Don't share you card. Use Paypal. First of all don't use freelancer they are scammers.
