The title is not an exaggeration. Freelancer is really, really bad. I came across a scammer, who decided that taking my finished work and just moving on without paying was a great idea. Here is the kicker: Freelancer sevice thought that too! I reported the scam, presented proof of him breaking several most important rules and opened several cases asking for help. Support was mildly annoyed, very dismissive and generally conveying the message of "well, tough luck".
On top of that, I actually had to pay Freelancer AUD 5 for the privilege of working on the project (33% of my prospective payout for the job).
The only redeeming thing I came across was Lyndon's support. It was was professional, courteous and very efficient. Simply fantastic and in stark contrast with the rest of the staff. Top job!
As you look at the reviews, you might notice that there are very few scores other than 5 and 1. This, I believe, is because the 1s are for the service as a whole, while the 5s are clearly for the support agents who managed to solve some issues and asked for a review.
Update: After a month complaining, the project fee (AUD 5) was refunded to me by customer support. Not much in terms of monetary gain, of course, but definitely a sign of goodwill from Freelancer.
Barry helped me in just 2 mins for the issue i was facing for the updation of my wallet amount. He checked my detail and updated the value in just 2 mins by checking my account.
I'm malith santhush. I'm school leaver. Now I join the freelancer jobs. I hop to do the best of work
I received prompt and precise advise about a technical matter from Erwin from General Support. As always, completely satisfied.
In the three or so months I've been looking for employment on Freelancer, I've received four fraudulent job offers. The first of which I reported myself and was still charged the transaction fee for the job and the remainder of which I was now aware not to accept. I had to contact their support to get the fee refunded, even though they were aware the job was fraudulent and they deleted the employer account. Of the other jobs I've bidded on, only one has been awarded and all the remainder have expired. Freelancer charges for everything. They charge for testing, they charge you for additional bids, they charge you if you are awarded a job, they charge the employer when they award you a job, they charge to sponsor your bids, they nickel and dime everybody for everything. I suppose I could be missing some critical technique that would get my foot in the freelance door but all in all, I'm very displeased with my experience with Freelancer.com
Charlotte was amazing to deal with very paitent and very professional. She was very paitent and coutiest.
I was stuck with the confirmation that the employer contacted me is genuine or not, charlotte helped me. Thanks Freelance.com
Brian was fast and helpful by speeding up the refund to our source. It takes still about 48 hours, but otherwise it takes 2 weeks. So thanks for speding up the procedure.
Phoebe helped in forwarding my concern to the concerned team and I am hopeful of getting it resolved soon.
Very responsive freelancer support regarding my concerned
I change my details on freelancer and the whole team work out to change my details specially the freelancer support team.
I recommend them! 2 thumbs UP
Had a chat with Josie G on freelancer.com plateform. Got everything resolved very quickly. Very informative and quick responded.
I was in a panic as I was scammed and Cyril helped me right away and understood my issue. I got my refund back and a happy freelancer again
I'm not sure why this site has so many positive reviews, It's terrible! Being a freelancer is expensive on freelancer.com I landed a 'gig and when I accepted was charged $27 as a freelancer.com fee. The assignment/buyer then disappeared. Later I find out he violated TOS and was banned, but I still had the charge of $27. I contacted customer service and was refunded via freelancer points... yes not money back... but points I can only use on freelancer.com. Besides that experience, you have the option to take a competency test based on the type of freelance work your searching for, like a writer would benefit from taking the English test. Each time you test it cost $5, and you need to be quick about taking the test because you'll run out of time. Whatever results you get will be visible on your profile and clients will be able to view them. However, you can retake the test until you reach the results you want and they'll replace the previous result. I've heard of skilled people wasting up to $40 retaking one test just because of the time limit.
I texted freelancer on their facebook page. Very fast responce. Eileen helped find a fraudulant account that was created with my credit card number! She investigated it until she found it, canceled it, and got the money that was taken to be on the road back to my bank account! I'm so thankful! I will forever be in Eileen's debt! Freelancer employs honest people! Awesome job freelancer!
Good customer service (exceptional) I would have cancelled my registration with freelancer but their customer care or support is exceptionally good, I hope they continue this way.
Really efficient chat with Josie G. My problem was solved in a few minutes. I wanted to quit Freelancer.com and be refunded with my deposit, and Josie G. Was very helpful
It was as expected. Fast efficient and satisfactory. Barry was great. I accidentally created extra milestone and the money was automatically transferred from my account. With Barry's help i got the refund very fast.
Frieda was very helpful and very accommodating. She was very helpful for a beginner like me. She answered all my inquiries with ease and understood all of my questions.

Answer: It is a PR platform that enables scammers to appear legitimate or verified. Freelancer doesn't care. They get a sizeable commission no matter if the posting is legitimate or not. Example: A fake ebook listing. Needs author to write 50000 words for US$ 2000. Unwitting freelancer bids and is 'awarded project' with message saying hurry up and accept. Once accepted, freelancer takes 'project fee' while you get tied up in their help callcenter trying to recoup not only the fee but potentially the fake employer gleaned from you using their platform. This site will be in the news soon. Trust me.
Answer: Hi Dejan. This happened to me in 2014, I lost a lot of money too, I withdrew the money on a Wednesday after the client had paid me $1000 in full. Then the next day, Thursday, I got a message that my withdrawal request was cancelled and the money reversed back to employer. My account was suspended and when I asked why, I was told that the employer looked like he was fraudulent and that the money might be fraud. Up to date, I am still bitter, angry and sad over that $1000 but I never got it back and Freelancer closed the person's account and that was that. So I hope this answers some of your questions and I am deeply sorry for your loss after such hard work. All the best
Answer: Freelancer.com focused on employer only, they just want as many employer and project as they can regardless of their country, verification status and deposits. However all the restriction is for employee. This is the reason Freelancer didn't stop them to post project without deposit. Almost 90% projects are fake (either posted by freelancer itself or fake/fraud employers). You have to be careful. Keep following things in mind will prevent you from fraud much. 1. Don't work for Employers from India/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka/Nigeria/Israel 2. Don't work for Employers whose name looks like Indian 3. Once the project is awarded to you, don't accept it unless the employer created initial milestone. Wait for at least 12 hours after milestone creation then accept it. 4. Ask for release step by step, don't work on next milestone unless previous is not released 5. Withdraw money from freelancer as fast as you can.
Answer: You can't say its fake but at the same time you can't just trust it fully. My point here is: people do get things done for the price but when it comes to money/payment, you can not trust freelancer. Sometimes it gets reversed from your account and you won't even get a satisfactory reason for it. I suffered a loss of 900 USD. All I get to hear that employer had some account issues and we can not disclose this any further. If you looking to work as a freelancer, go odesk or upwork and any other site first and then freelancer.com. Small incident: I worked for a client, designed the logo got the parent for it. Next day when looged in, my account showed negative balance ( payment reversed). Support: employer have acc. Issues Client: never came back or responded to any mails. Result: I worked and still in debt.
Answer: Dispute it with PayPal! Another beautiful example of why everyone hates Freelancer.
Answer: Freelancer is scam. I have very bad experience recently. "The payments you've received from your employer "-----------" were reversed due to their account issues. As a result, their account was closed" Lost over 800$. Freelancer also keep the fee for this job! Their support never answer. SCAM
Answer: Agree, do not use credit card details - freelancer is a terrible organisation when it comes to finances - they just debit your card at will, no warning, no opportunity to review the transaction, no notification of the charge - you just find out once you get your bank statement. Be very, very wary of this company - not saying their dodgy, BUT they are very devious when it comes to transactions. I think their motto is - "debit any time, just don't tell them and they wont complain"
Answer: Contact Paypal and file a dispute. I got a refund for the monthly amount that they should not have charged me for.
Answer: Good afternoon Rostyslav, unfortunately this has happened to most users of Freelancer including people who have been awarded projects. Ensure that you do not start any work or event accept a project until the following criteria have been met: 1. Project awarded 2. Initial milestone/deposit created 3. Client agrees to release the first payment immediately after you accepting the project. If they are unable to do this, tell then politely that you are unwilling to start on the project and keep looking for honest, legitimate clients. Be careful at all time on this website, even if you do vey thing by the book and the client still doesn't pay, the Freelancer support team will not help you. It is left to you to contact the client and chase the payment even of they delete their account.
Answer: Don't share you card. Use Paypal. First of all don't use freelancer they are scammers.
