Many diligent people will check the "problems" of a product before spending their hard earned cash, one way is to check the product forums to see what problems current users are having.
However, be warned that anyone visiting the Fitbit "community forum" will only see one side of the story. Please understand that the comments placed there are under extreme censorship with total bias toward the positives.
If a user so much as posts one honest word about their incredibly unreliable products then the post will be deleted and if you continue to do your best to make honest answers to other people also suffering the same issues then you will be banned. Happened to me today.
I have also spoken to many other members that have had their posts deleted or have also been banned. Do yourself a favor and buy any other product except a Fitbit.
My suggestion is to read through the several hundred reviews here and on other non-affiliated websites to find out how poor their products and especially their customer service is.
Their mods are utter fascists that want to stamp out honest opinions.

Be warned.

I see now why the reviews are so terrible. I spent $200 on a fitbit blaze and after 2 months it stopped doing what it advertised. It doesnt hold a charge for more than 3 days, the step count is way off and it takes a solid 4 minutes to sync. I called and complained and after numerous emails back and forth they finally agreed to send me a replacement one and guess what? The "new replacement" is not syncing at all! I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and still nothing! It also dies after 2 1/2 days and I dont use the notifications from my phone or keep the all day sync on. Piece of garbage and a complete rip off. Don't get reeled in by the name. There are many competitors worth looking in to.

I purchased a Fitbit Versa Lite from Fitbit.com on October 2nd 2019 it lasted a little over 2 months before all functions weren't working. I contacted Fitbit customer service and after their help and 4 calls nothing worked at all, it wouldn't even turn on or at least keep time. Then after 4 days they finally agreed to replace the watch, now I am at their mercy for getting a replacement which may or may not happen till the Dec. 27,2019. This started on Dec. 13,2019. Before the Versa Lite I had a Fitbit Charge, the first one lasted under a year, they replaced it and the replacement only lasted a little over a year. They poor customer service and products don't seem to last. I will not ever purchase anything from Fitbit again. I will spend a little bit more and get a more reliable product.

I had purchased my Fitbit HR through Amazon India. Unfortunately fitbit spoiled hence I sent email to Fitbit along with the photos of Fitbit. I got immediate response of my email and they agreed to replace my Fitbit HR. And they did it too but unfortunately that device did not work hence i sent them email again and finally they gave me FITBIT Charge 2. I received it today and did setting of its and working well.
Its never happened with Indian company in replacement device but Fitbit did it without any hassle.

Terrible product

I had the Fitbit for a little over a year and it cracked in half. They were only able to offer a 25% discount when I called the customer service line. Terrible service and terrible product DO NOT BUY!

Purchased my Fitbit watch for a secondary reason to use it for Fitbit pay. Fitbit websites specifically indicates that American Express is supported but their app will not allow one to upload the American Express card. Numerous attempts to rectify this problem have gone unanswered by an atrocious customer service department. Since Fitbit is now owned by Google, one would think that a fixed to this problem should be readily available since Google pay excepts American Express, why can't they are smartwatch brand also accept it. More importantly, why can't they are customer service react and respond to problems with their app. Extremely frustrating and definitely a reason not to purchase their products.

Ordered fitbit 4
Arrived and immediately had a battery life issue. Called their tech and said GPS was on... Never turned it on.
Battery life 19 hours. Called again. GPS on. Never turned on.
Called again and had me reset.
Called 4th time... You are right, you have a battery issue. Return. Sent Fedex label.
Just called again, it takes 10 days for return. Due to Covid. But you will receive your new fitbit in 4 daays Fedex...
But first you need to receive an email from us with your address. Never would have sent new fitbit 4 without email with address unless I called.
Needless to say, very disappointed..

This product is only compatible with at most 10 android phones. Unless you have those phones you cannot buy this product.

I have moto G5s plus, turns out this device is only compatible with moto g5s. With one plus this device is only compatible with one plus 6.

If you have lower versions of phones which are already obsolete by the way, only then you buy this product.

Raised complaint to customer support, they told be to change my phone and then try syncing.

I was forced to give up my Ionic Fitbit that worked perfectly, and unfortunately I replaced it with the Fitbit Sense. Nothing but trouble has ensued: The Heart Rate is consistently off, the Sleep tracker is sporadic at best, and the sp02 oxygen sensor never works. Fitbit/Google knows these watches are junk, yet they fail to provide support and correct the bugs. I'm turning off my Fitbit account and will NEVER buy from them again.

Wont sync

It wont sync to my phone. Fitbit emailed telling me they dont support my phone id need to sync to another device...
I dont have anither device. My last phone died so i bought the best selling phone brand but now my watch wont work... Thanks fitbit... If anythibg id buy another brand of health tracker not fitbit

What a total waste of $$$. The band of my HR comes apart after a few months. Fitbit begrudging replaced them, but they continually fall apart. After just one month I must use electrical tape to keep it together.
Today, the center section that holds the control button totally fell off, making this a totally unusually. I used to use it as a cheap watch. NOW NO DISPLAY!
Stay away from Fitbit. Nice customer service, but a disgusting product that I kept wearing because they kept replacing.
Fitbit KNOWS THE BANDS ARE CRAP, but keeps selling them. I'm gone forever. STAY AWAY FROM FITBIT. Cheaply made!

Disappointed
September 29, 2022

I purchased a Fitbit Versa 2 on September 21st. I had to return it yesterday. The watched was stinging my skin. I showed the service rep. The bruised spot where it was stinging. I took pictures of my wrist also. The rep suggested I call Fitbit because she said it shouldn't have been stinging my skin. I called Fitbit and the Rep. Was so uncaring and said since I returned it, there wasn"t anything they could do. I am so upset first because it left a bruise, and because he could have said they would compensate me somehow. He could have offered a discount towards a new replacement or SOMETHING!

Battery lasted 6 months
February 15, 2020

Got the charge 3 for Christmas last year and the battery lasted about 6months. They replaced it under warranty and then my second one died after 7 months. They couldn't replace it because it wasn't under warranty. The battery is supposed to last 3 years and didn't even make it 1 year in both cases. Heart rate monitor also broke on the second one. $#*!ty quality and $#*!ty watch

I have now been the not-very-happy owner of 2 fitbit devices. They both SUCKED! Why did I buy the 2nd one, you ask? I have no freaking idea. The 2nd one was their supposed top-of-the-line product, the Sense. Check out the pricing on that POS! It lasted less than 2 years! They would not honor my request for a repair or replacement & only offered me a 35% discount on my next new purchase. NO THANKS! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! There are a LOT of options for fitness watches out there. I purchased on one Amazon for a fraction of the price, it actually regulates more than the Sense did & it was a FRACTION of the cost & has a 3 year warranty. I HATE FITBIT!

Poor customer service
October 13, 2022

Bought a Fitbit ionic march 2022. It got hot and stopped working. There was a Fitbit recall but I could not find the box with serial number on to claim refund. Eventually found it. Contacted customer services to claim. 3-6 weeks process. After 7 weeks was told it had not progressed yet and was still in queue to be processed expect another 3 weeks. The discount code was about to run out so I purchased 2 x sense 2@ £324. With free 1 working day delivery. 11/10. I got email 12/10 telling me my watches on way and to smile. And to smile again. I waited in all day 12/10. I waited in all day on my birthday 13/10. I contacted Fitbit who looked into the delivery order and she noticed I did not pay for 1 working day delivery and told me to wait 3-5 days. I pointed out was 1 working day on 11/10 as stated on purchase order. She put phone down. I chased DHL who have let me down many times. Now in Belgium. I am in uk. Expected delivery now listed as 17/10 by end of day it says. Chased up Fitbit who paid foe expedited 1 working day delivery. They will chase up tomorrow and keep an eye on delivery. I can cancel order and it will be returned for a refund in 2-3 weeks. I could go into Argos and by 1 within 15 mins. I can't believe they have no supply in the Uk as they sell in many shops. Why it is coming from Nederland -now in Belgium. It's on tour around Europe. You cant speak to a human at DHL. And spent 5 hours going from pillar to post for a mistake they have made. Option was free same day delivery or 3 day. No option for 6-7 day delivery. Chatted to Fitbit was complete waste of 30 mins explaining x 2.

I'm on my FOURTH Charge 5 in two years...that's right...4th. And again, as the other 3 did...it has died. This time, in a "record" one month and 7 days. I just bought this one July 7th (delivered 12 July through Ebay). And after a lengthy call to "Customer Support" (that's a BIG misnomer), I got an email tonight telling me they won't warranty the slightly more than one month old device...because I bought it through Ebay.

Anyway, definitely some kind of HUGE quality control problem As I went thru 4...and my wife is on her second one (yep, first one died after about a year).

I've had enough...moved on to another brand I bought on Amazon.

DO NOT BY A FITBIT CHARGE 5, and if you're foolish enough to do so...then don't buy through Ebay or any other place they say they won't warranty your purchase. Best bet, STAY AWAY FROM FITIBIT...

Worst after care team. Had to repeat my email address numerous times. Had Fitbit watch 8 months and plastic bit that joins strap broke. They didn't want to know. Argos replaced it no hassle.

I have fit bit loved it BUT after a year the button doesn't work. I sometimes get notifications of phone calls. No text anymore. Made poor so you have to upgrade all the time. Too expensive for that.

Terrible Customer Service

My Fitbit Ionic stopped working just past the 1 year warranty and, despite Fitbit customer service staff putting in writing that the "DEVICE IS DEFECTIVE," Fitbit is unwilling to offer any other solutions than for me to buy a new device. I spent hours on the phone/online chat trying to get the issue resolved, and each time was told they would send the situation on for resolution to another team, only for me to get a canned email, of zero assistance. Why on earth would I buy anything else from a company like this? They admit that their devices are defective, and provide no reasonable alternatives to their customers.
