The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

After one successful transaction I thought Id try again. Big mistake! Out of my 5 purchased from EBTH only 1 was as advertised. Example: I purchased what was described as a Duncan Phyfe
Style table. When Inpicked thenalready paid for item it was obviously the top and bottom where married piece that where VERY different than what was photographed and advertised. The second incident was advertised as an antique onyx ring -either Art Deco or Edwardian. Haha. The setting was obviously a modern setting. Antique my@&$.
Good Bye EBTH. Id give you -1 star if I could!
I read all the reviews below and I experienced the same. I have a product that was chipped when it came and they are saying I should have seen it in the picture... not so! And, they admitted in writing they missed stating it in the description, Total bullying saying we will give you a partial return or a little gift certificate.
This is fraud. Time for the Attorney General to look into this company.
I recently purchased a couple of vintage small plastic toy horses for my grandson. My winning bid was $12.00. The total came to almost $78.00 with shipping and handling! That is absurd. The items were light and small. I will never get ripped off by them again.
I have been registered with EBTH for a long time but only occasionally do business with and ONLY as a buyer. FROM MY BUYING EXPERIENCES, I WOULD NENER SELL NOR EVER RECOMMEND ANYONE CONNTRACTING TO SELL! Customer service is anything but. Lots of lip service hardly any action. Usually ZERO communication. They simply close tickets without responding. They will charge high shipping costs and then place several purchased items in the same container WITHOUT refunding anything to the buyer. Over $200 to ship a Lionel train set already in a box? Really? Charging over $20 to pick the item up at the warehouse but $13 to have it shipped? FRAUD! There are deals to be purchased but be ready for long complicated issues when something goes wrong!
I have purchased numerous items from this site. Many, many items arrived broken. But the largest scam they have going is their shipping charges. After a few purchases I suspected they were upping the shipping costs went you check out. I started writing the shipping quote down before my final bids. Sure enough, they usually double the shipping on small items. When you call them, they give you the run around but never get back with you to discuss your issue. Then, because they have your credit card number they go ahead and charge you the higher price and send it out. I am finished shopping this site - they are crooks!
They are a scam. Overpriced items and charges for shipping items that are local! I was a regular but noticed they charge for shipping when it is not indicated and possible backroom bidders
This company is awful. I have bid on and won a few items and 2 arrived damaged. Their customer service is terrible. Their warehouse staff and downright rude! I will never buy from them again.
I took 7 large and in perfect condition framed pictures to them in Lexington. I did not want them sent to another city but they did it anyway. It took 4 months before they even put the items up for sale. I made a grand total of $40 off 5 of the items. 2 of them did not sell until months later and I made a whopping $6.60 off of those two prints. And they never even told me they were going up for sale which they said they would. Really wish I had never dealt with them at all and never will again.
As a buyer - I won a number of items and ok with the overall experience except for one transaction where an item I purchased from Ohio was shuttered in transit. It was carefully wrapped however a part of the stone sculpture has chipped. Beautiful piece of art that I purchased in excellent condition is now a mediocre third grade with the chip in the front. I took all the pictures and sent to customer service. They replied promptly that they will pay me half the value back for the inconvenience and file the insurance on my behalf. As I later learned filing the insurance on my behalf meant they will pocket the money they receive from the insurance. I also wander if they claimed full value of destroyed art piece or a partial refund given to me? Seems like another excellent way to make money off people. Customer service was extremely rude handling this one.
I sell lots of stuff on eBay and believe in honest description. If I were a seller I would love company that sells for me to provide as accurate of a description as possible. I noticed that their descriptions are extremely limited and contain general versus specific titles. I am a lamp collector and I see beautiful lamps sold there for pennies just because of general descriptions missing specifics. Antique Victorian banquet lamp named old lamp sold for two dollars was worth well over a hundred to a collector. This makes me question employees of the company as providing less than optimum titles for items create many opportunities for inside jobs. Seemingly they are not interested in sellling some of the items for a profit to their sellers or their company.
Lastly, moving small items to Ohio was a brilliant way to get into people's pocket even further. What happens to fragile collectibles? What happens to broken stufff? Thinking about insurance and it's not going to sellers based on reviews. Again, poor titles and description of collectables in Ohio... What happens to stuff that doesn't sell? They get all items from people hoping to sell to make money and basically pocket it in a warehouse where people loose any control over belongings. I would be interested in bidding if items were local but not bidding on items in Ohio. Many people feel that way, which limits pool of qualified buyers to Ohio residents and driving the price lower. I am thinking again of the inside jobs and how many employees have an opportunity to profit by providing poor titles and descriptions by basically stealing from people who would like to sell. I also wander if the company has local stores to sell items they don't sell during an auction, that would make a lot of sense and explain ridiculous way they handle items people submit to them.
I've ordered several times from EBTH, and never had an issue. I recently won 2 items on the app and arranged for a pickup by a friend.
A month later I contacted the friend and inquired about the items and they informed me they had forgotten to pickup the items. I contacted EBTH and asked about picking them up myself, which at that time, customer service told me I had forfeited the item and they were reselling both items and not refunding my payment.
HELLO EBTH -- THAT IS FRAUD & IT"S SUPER ILLEGAL.
Contacted Chase and easily resolved 2 chargebacks on it, but THE WORST customer service and they are literally not above breaking the law to profit more.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I recently consigned two carloads of artwork and home decor with EBTH. Some items included $50 a yard fabric and expensive wallpaper. They did not even both to unroll the yardage for the pictures, etc. I made under $75 for the entire lot. It was a complete joke and never will I do business with them again. They also took months to finalize the process. Just stay away from this company.
I have purchased several things from EBTH. I enjoyed searching for odd things and generally everything was as described. As others have stated shipping is expensive. So I am giving 2 stars overall and 1 star for Customer Service. Entirely robotic and impersonal. I can read your T&C myself Customer Service Representative. I was looking for help to resolve a mistake and instead I got the bedside manner of a dead fish. Good luck EBTH. It's you not me and I broke up with you via web form--how's that for 2017. Looking forward to the 404 on your site when you go out of business. Peace.
EBTH has a nice looking webpage and some good items, but the the good ends there. I won a bid on small piece of jewelry from them in early September. Their page would not generate a shipping cost estimate for me, and when I contacted EBTH, my request for a shipping cost was bounced around from agent to agent.
Each agent gave me a different answer but admitted they weren't sure what to do. It took two weeks to get me a shipping quote, which I duly paid. Then, an agent added another $25 fee on top of the shipping, and my VISA, with no explanation. I had to email/call multiple times to get them to clarify total price, after which EBTH dropped the extra $25.
It took them 10 more days to ship the item, which ended up being further delayed due to EBTH making a error on the address label. Overall it took 5+ weeks to finally ship a small item through a domestic carrier.
The only silver lining here is that the item I bought was very pretty.
EBTH really needs to get their house in order and have clear and consistent ways of handling shipping and orders.
Do not purchase from this company. I have had problems with them three times. Local deliveries weren't made for over a month and only then because I called and emailed repeatedly. Now they have sent me the wrong item. It has been ten days of emails and it is still not resolved. They seem to think I should pay to return the item. And they won't issue me a refund on my much more expensive item until the wrong one is returned. Half the time their online chat is down and their customer service is abysmal. They take 2 days to respond to an email.
I bid on a painting that had a shipping charge of approximately $21, but once I won the picture, the shipping charges suddenly went up to $156.
In their defence, they do have on the website their shipping charges can go up or down 10%, but that is 640%.
They also advertize items as paintings when they're prints. I have bought three (I thought) were paintings, but they turned out to be prints.
It is false adverstizing and they should be held accountable. If they were selling their merchandise on eBay or Etsy, they'd be required to advertise merchandise accurately instead of falsely advertising so they'll hopefully fetch a higher bid.
They are the worst, and they refuse to allow me to cancel my order.
Please think before you purchase anything from these people.
They are intentionally misleading! Site says you can pick up the item. Then, if you're late (and its okay with the seller because they are your friends) they pack up the items anyway and charge you outrageous fees for shipping. As of now, they will not allow a cancellation of purchase and shipping. I will fight them, but you shouldn't have to. Wish I'd read the other reviews!
The three markets I always used have been closed. After buying from EBTH for a year and a half I will have to stop buying. The shipping cost are to much, and the remainder markets are to far to drive to. I don't understand why a contract with UPS or FedEx can't be negotiated. Seems you are limiting the sales that could be made. I will be looking forward to the next expansion.
Dealing with this company for two years with declining satisfaction.
As of this year EBTH is getting very questionable about their business practices.
In the latest (and last) purchase I thought I had avoided S/H and could pick up locally.
SURPRISE, I just bought something and must have item shipped to me at almost the same cost of the small item I won.
EBTH S/H is very expensive, items are often over packaged with tape and bubble wrap and take forever to arrive to your address.
BEWARE when bidding! There is a prompt that should come up that you agree to the S/H terms before you bid. That prompt NEVER came up last night, so I thought I had avoided the S/H.
Kept waiting for the invoice and had to contact them (first time this has happened) never received it Contacted them and asked where's the invoice? EBTH sent invoice quickly after that.
Note to all, if there is NO street address, the item WILL be shipped and cost you a more than you can imagine possible.
Deleting their website after item arrives.
Reviews should tell everyone to STAY AWAY from buying anything from EBTH.
Be sure to read all the reviews before you bid.
Dad passed away with a huge house and garage full of stuff. I am the executor of his estate, but live very far away -- in another state. Mark Judge took the time to travel (1-1/2 hours) to inventory the contents of my dad's property. He was kind and patient in answering my 100 questions. Everything -- auction items, donated items, and to-be- discarded items packed up and removed from the house. Very slick operation. An answer to my prayers!
Even if you are local you have to pay for the shipping as they are trying to make money out of it. Very bad for the people who are trying to seel their stuff through them. There is no reason for a local person paying $160 for a painting to ship from ohio when it can be easily pickd up locally. So sometimes stuff does not get sold.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
