The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

I bid on EBTH on 20 different almost identical items, which were each 10 black and white vintage train photos. Before bidding, I asked for combine shipping on these photos and got a positive answer. Each lot ended up being sold around $4 in average, so my total invoice is $80, plus $600 shipping. I asked for combined shipping, and I am told that it is not possible, the lots have already been packaged and will be mailed individually by expedited shipping. The irony is that the shipping warehouse is 10 miles away from my house. I offer to come and pick up.
No reasonable solution is offered to me.
At the end, I am charged the $80 for the merchandise and EBTH thinks that it is reasonable to charge me $600 to ship one pound of photos over a 10 miles distance.
Needless to say, I have cancelled my account.
I see a lot of disgruntle users all over the internetBeware, beware, beware
1.8 star rating on Sitejabber, 1.5 on Yelp. I let you draw your own conclusions.
Interesting how ive been writing down many bidders id #s as the bids get bidded up at extremly high prices when the cost of good is cheaper on amazon? Folks be very very careful of this site. Great for sellers bad for buyers! 1
I just concluded my second auction with EBTH and have been very pleased each time. I have enjoyed working with every staff member. This is a fantastic way to declutter and downsize. The commission is worth the trouble and time saved for getting things out of the house! I plan to have a third auction!
Deceptive advertising and terrible customer service. I've bought a couple things from their auctions, and every single time, the item's condition has been inaccurately described. When they miscalculated sales tax, I couldn't get them to even respond to me until weeks later when I filed a complaint with the BBB. Then they finally responded. I will never purchase from them again.
What a great concept. Such a cool thing, great pictures and products. But by the time you pay for the shipping (and wait WEEKS to get your item), it's no longer fun or cool. It's a shame, because they took something that could be so awesome, and really screwed it up! They should take a look at ThredUp. Shipping is always reasonable. No more ebth for me!
I won a Rolex watch -- the picture showed orig. Green Rolex box and certificate of last service -- they shipped watch only and insist that they do not have the rest of the items and actually stated "perhaps I lost then when I opened the box"! Contacted them several times and they are not easy to work with --and are VERY rude in their email correspondence! I currently have a dispute with my charge card regarding this purchase
I won an item, waiting 6 weeks for it to ship, NEVER received ANY shipping information from them as was told I would get. I called and I wrote. I get a call the day of the items arrival ON A SUNDAY saying the driver was in town and wanted to make the delivery (January 14, 2018) even though I had just checked my invoice for shipping information a few days before that ....nothing. Fortunately, I was available and the young men who delivered my item werer courteous and careful, I would not do business with ETBH after that. I got a call from a representative after leaving negative feedback but, too little too late, nothing more to say that I had not already said.
My wife and I have used this site very often, won many auctions, it was fun. We now are finished with them. If you are planning on selling an estate, go somewhere else, they charge up to 50 percent on your wares. If you are buying find a different site, their shipping is incredibly high, they do not bundle items to make it cheaper, because of laziness. The excuse is to have it ready to ship quicker, dont think so, we won an auction on December 21 2017, still have not received it as of January 12 2018. This could have been a cool site, best to just stay away.
I read their FAQs before bidding, which said I could choose the card used to bill the cost of the item and shipping. The second the item was mine and generated an email invoice, the billed me without letting me choose the billing method.
Additionally shipping was 250% of what a flat rate box, with insurance and tracking costs from USPS. In their FAQs they say they use USPS and UPS. But when I reported this, and suggested they make their shipping economical, they said they only use UPS which is pretty exorbitant, and has a terrible track record for breakage, loss and expense.
There is no way to contact them before an auction, only after. So you cannot ask about these issues in advance.
I won't be buying from them again. They don't know what they are doing compared to Ebay or other online specialty auction sites I use regularly that get the customer wants control over payment and shipping.
After winning some items I clearly stated that I was going to pick them up at their Warehouse. For my surprise they ended up shipping the items to me for a lot of money and to make things worse they withdrew the shipping amount without my permission from my Bank account. When I called them up in regards of that issue they were rude and did not want to hear anything I had to say. I filed a formal complaint and they responded that even though it was not their fault they were going to refund me the money? Really... Great... but wait, after that I tried to bid on one item and I realized that my account had been closed. Uhmmm I called and they kept me on waiting and saying they were going to call me back which they never did to respond why my account was closed?... What a reputable company that shut down accounts when people file complains and exercise their rights... BEWARE.
I had never heard of EBTH, but what an amazing help it was! From the moment contacted, I barely had to do anything, they came in, assessed, organized, sold, and finalized everything. I just had to deposit the check, which was more than I would have been able to organize myself! I loved my experience!
Our EBTH experience was terrific, far more than we had ever expected. Wendy came in and cataloged everything and prepared our belongings and us for the sale. Our sale was much better than anticipated. Working with Wendy and others from EBTH was a pure joy. I highly recommend them.
I've purchase many, many items from EBTH in the last couple of years. Since I know shipping charges are often125% of purchase price, I factor that amount into my bid. But, here's what had happened in the last few months. I've submitted two questions regarding items that took over 45 days to arrive despite the exorbitant fees. Today, however, took the cake. I was the winning bidder on a Victorian dumb waiter when I received a notice I had been outbid. The notification stated I had one hour before the auction ended. Well, I logged in to EBTH.com 20 minutes later only to find that auction ended. EBTH is not a reputable business
Shipping charges are much higher than on comparable sites. Sometimes 30-40% higher. On the other hand, the auction prices are very reasonable but what good is it if you can't afford to ship it.
I have shopped with this service for over a year but in the last few months something has changed. No longer are you allowed to pick up small items at a local auction. Now all smalls and art are shipped to their distribution center in Ohio so you must pay HUGE shipping fees to have an item of interest shipped back to your local area. Last month I won a grouping of porcelain items that were so poorly packed that they were ALL broken upon arrival. I sent pictures and filled out their report, then gave the box of broken items to the UPS driver. EBTH insisted I provide a picture of the exterior of the box, which I had given back to the UPS driver. The exterior of the box was not damaged, not UPS fault, it was that EBTH tossed the breakable items in not properly wrapped to smash against each other for the journey. It has been a nightmare to try and get the refund ($21 item plus about another $30 in shipping) It also seems dishonest that they may try and blame UPS. Last I checked they said they would refund but it had not shown up on my card.
The second week of December I won an auction for a rather expensive painting, intended for gift giving. The painting never arrived. I checked and there was no tracking number, they did not proactively communicate with me. After I sent them several messages they claimed they had lost the painting and that they would refund in several days. (I have not seen the refund yet) Funny, they want you to pay within 24 hours but they can drag on a claim process forever. BUYER BEWARE. Something is up with this company and the changes are NOT customer friendly. Their email to me explaining their changes is that it is supposed to help with their "global" market. Yeah, good luck with that when can't pack a box properly or find the item you need to ship. Unreal.
Their staff are literary genius and have the ability to write very misleading descriptions of the items for sale. I overpaid (my fault for getting wrapped up in the auction) for a "vintage" white dresser. There was absolutely nothing vintage about that dresser. At best it was a $50 garage sale dresser and I wish I had waited for garage sale season. I thought they carried a higher level of merchandise and this sorely was not the case with my first and last purchase from them. I reached out to them about their mis-representation and they refused to refund the sale and shared that "vintage" in their definition is anything over 25 years old. 1) they can't prove to me that this dresser is 25 years old or older and 2) nowhere on their site do they tell you their definition of vintage and 3) if they had written 1990s instead of vintage I never would have put forth a bid. Got me once, never will get me twice.
Bidded on some items and did not win them. And in couple days I noticed, that the same items I bid, again on the market?!
I won one lot of 2 shelves of books... Got just one, and they gave me 50% of what I spent? But... the second missing half is more valuable and it is a reason I bid on this lot
3 others lots I paid, said it is shipped, but it is not and I do not know when I will get it.
Not the first time a such experience with them. I decided to give them another chance, but... It looks like I pay my earned money to keep myself busy arguing with customer service... Not worth it! Finish
I was lucky enough to win a ring at a decent price. That said, the shipping was more than 10% of sale price; it would've cost less to have jewelry shipped from Europe. They also charged sales tax even though I live out of state; rationale is that they have an affiliate business in New York. In the end, $30 was added to the sale price. It's actually a hidden buyer's premium. Highly questionable and deceptive. I'd advise against bidding here.
Have bid on several items recently, none of which I won. Curiously, I watched the items daily and seemed to detect a pattern in bidding. In my case, each bidder's numbers were very long - 10 numbers - while the price was "reasonable". As the time began to run out on the "reasonably" priced item --- a new bidder would surface, their number was only 5 - 6 numerals. Obviously, though I continued to bid - each time this number would immediately increase mine bid and ultimately won the item... have you ever wondered who just might be running the bidding up on more valuable pieces with a low bid? Additionally, the shipping charges are beyond reason. I shared shipping cost of an item I purchased with the local UPS --- I paid
$35 for a $7 basket. UPS said the price if I shipped back to the senders address would be approximately $19... I believe my shopping with EBTH has come to a close.
DON'T KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED, BUT ENDED UP BEING CHARGED $600 FOR A $#*!TY PIECE OF JEWELRY THAT IS CRACKED THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE PAID MORE THAN $100 FOR. THEY TOLD ME I KEPT BIDDING WHEN I WASN'T, AND NOW ARE HOLDING ME TO THAT AMOUNT. THEY WILL BE SUED! THE WORST PART IS, YOU CANNOT GO BACK TO THE BIDDING HISTORY ONCE IT'S CLOSED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. WHAT A COINCIDENCE.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
