Totally avoid this business at all costs. Haven't used their card for 3 years, but unlike all other major credit cards they charge a $45 annual fee. They charge a 19.65% APR. Cancelling the card with them is a nightmare. They keep charging daily interest rate charges, even after you cancel. The maximum amount they let you borrow is $750. In other words they are only in the business of signing up people who are desperate and gouging them.

BBB Case Number *******
01/25/2023
Complaint: *******
The complaint in detail on or about 08/29/2022, Credit One advised me they were changing my credit card from a VISA to an American Express and would be sending me a new card and was not giving an option.
I make my payments from day 1 through my bank to keep a record, which shows they accepted my payment on the 4th or 6th of every month, which is early, and so every payment made from that point, they say my payment was not received after several calls, emails to their website they correct it after a bunch of harassment and nasty messages claiming they are going to close my account, etc.
Now it's a new year.
The problem is still not fixed.

Tip for consumers:

I've been a customer for years, and the only reason I don't cancel is they have kept increasing my line of credit. Otherwise, I'd cancel this card. Besides having one of the worst customer no service departments ever, they have a tricky way of charging you for late payments. Here's how the scam works: They charge you an annual fee, but won't let you pay it in advance! I paid in advance, they issued me a refund, and then charged me for not paying the fee! How can I be late if I have a credit?
Like many, I had to use Credit One Bank to re-establish my credit because they approve just about anyone. Well, I found out why: Their shady practices mean they make a ton of money off of you. I could go on and one but let me just get to the final straw: getting qualified for a credit increase which was issued as a second card of the same type so a second membership fee could be charged. Of course, when I didn't pay the second membership fee, thinking the second card was the old one reissued with a new number, a ton of late fees accrued! If you have to use them, make a calendar note to check the account every other week, because their email notifications come late or not at all.

Tip for consumers:
Credit increases given on a second card of the same type with two different numbers. Make sure you are paying on both cards.

If you are considering this card beware of fees they do not tell you about. There is an annual fee, credit protection fee and if you add an Authorized User to your account there is a $19.00 annual fee for that. Paying online can also be an issue as the website is hit or miss. If you call to tell them you can't access your account to make a payment, they will try to charge you for making a payment by phone! Also if you don't have the time to keep checking to see if their website is available, they will charge you a late fee no matter that you couldn't get access! There are much better cards out there!

Tip for consumers:
Many hidden fees. Not reliable service.

DO NOT USE THIS FOR CREDIT! Absolutely no help at all. No answer to phones. Only care about the charge! If I could make a minus I would.

18 days after my father-in-law died, there was a letter in the mail from Credit One Bank saying that they received a change of address to his account per his request. We have been through & organized his paperwork & wallet. There was NO Credit One Bank credit card to be found ANYWHERE. So, we called (after verifying that the listed number in the letter is in fact the real one) but without the account number (all the letter has is the last 4 numbers) they would not do anything, not even send us to the Fraud Department. They said to send the death certificate. So I made a copy of their letter & sent them the death certificate. We were told that after they got that, the account info would be sent so we could see what was going on.

A month later his address received a letter saying "Thank you for contacting Credit One Bank. We received a copy of the Death Certificate...The Social Security number and/or date of birth listed on the Death Certificate do not match our records. To complete the account closure, please send a copy of the following:
Driver's license
Social Security card"

So I made a copy & sent it, confident that I would have the closure I needed to not worry about someone fraudulently having an account with dad's name on it.

WELL, 2 weeks later there's another letter. It says "Credit One Bank received information that [he] is deceased. To complete the closure process of the above-referenced Credit One Bank account, we need a copy of the Certificate of Death."

I called & explained that that was already sent. I was told again that without the account number or the social security number they have, they can do nothing! So the guy on the phone claimed to "put a block on" further letters & if we get one to disregard it. We can report the fraud to the credit bureau. WOW, just WOW.

I'm in Los Angeles and there are no merchants participating in the cash back rewards program with this bank. It's an empty incentive.
I don't like how they process payments, either. It takes three days for a payment to post. I just made a payment and realized I had more money available. I wanted to make another payment but I wasn't allowed. I tried to cancel the payment I just made, but I wasn't allowed. I tried to take a screen shot but I wasn't allowed. I even tried to record it with a screen recording app, but I wasn't allowed. I guess they don't want anyone to have proof of anything they do on that app.

Paided off a Credit one account on the sixth of a March $1,100 dollars, they waived the 300 in late fees on the sixth. On march sixteenth, we get a letter saying the account is suspended after making an eleven hundred dollar payment.
The payments have been made from the same bank, the same card for the last three years we've been making minimum payments.
We were told the account was suspended UNTIL we send verification from the SAME BANK AND CARD WE BEEN PAYING WITH FOR OVER 3 YEARS...even though they ACCEPTED AND TOOK THE 1100 PAYMENT...
They waived the late fees when we made the payment but now want them.so we did it and closed the account.
They want us to make minimum payments so that we don't pay off the account. They demanded documentation from the same bank. They collected the money from that we made the payment. They try to extort us.They wanted us to keep paying them and keep paying minimum payments for years. Stay away from them at almost 30%. They are not worth it.

Tip for consumers:
What amazes me is we made the payment. They don't want to accept an $1100 payment. They only want minimum payments to keep you stuck to them for their next 20 years.

When did up canceling the account? And we're going to look into another credit card company. This bank and credit card is not worth it. They are up almost 30% on interest now.

In fact, I have two accounts, which are paid at the same time each month.

The only account with the problem is the one they switch from a VISA to an American Express.
I tell them each time what I think the problem is when they change the cards.

The guy from India that answers the phone has no clue and can't understand him.

I paid my credit card off and they flagged it for a suspicious
Because I paid it off. They charged me for an express payment of
Almost 5.00 and the payment was to be posted immediately.
They did not do so. They flagged it and is now telling me that I
Have to prove it is me making the payment by giving them my
Bank statement. The website for them is not working properly
And wont allow me to give them the information I shouldnt have
To give them to begin with. I can understand if it was a transaction
But to pay my credit card off I think this is a bit much. They are
Also trying to make it to where my payment is late and I get more
Charges and fees. I need this taken care of. I call and they just
Keep putting me on hold, passing me from person to person and
Not resolving the issue with the website or with my payment
Gettting posted to my account so that no charges or late fees
Accure. That is the whole reason I paid almost 5.00 for a express
Payment. They are very unprofessional. They pass you from person to person and leave you on hold. I was placed on hold about ten times for long periods of time. Then transfered and spoke with 8 different people. The issue is still not resolved and I have filed a complaint with the BBB. Do NOT use this company

Tip for consumers:
Do NOT trust them. They lie when it comes to the express payment.

They changed their whole system of payment, sent no notification of this change, deleted my account, was going to charge me for paying by phone, but he started asking me stuff not related to a payment like what state and other stuff! I'll take one late fee for mailing it in, pay it off ASAP, and never deal with them again, Credit One Visa. Awful.

I called credit one as they still had a closed account they were sending me emails for. It was closed and paid off months ago and still showed on their website. This one female rep I spoke to I've dealt with before and we had the very same issue. She wanted my entire SS # in order to look into my information. She insisted and was rude. I told her other reps for my other acct have always asked for last 4 digits including other info. She said "we cannot proceed with this any further"! WOW! I asked for her supervisor. She put me on hold. Into oblivion. Because a supervisor never came to the phone after 10 min. I hung up and called back. I was only asked for my last 4 digits. I told him what happened he put a supervisor on the phone who said in order to access phone records it would take 30 days & she also said the female rep said I declined to give her any information. Not true! I gave her everything she needed. That was a lie on the Rep 's part and makes me think she wants entire # SS for scamming people.
UPDATE: Today I receive my official closed letter for the fradualent acct. They sent me the WRONG letter of an acct I paid off 6 months ago! I called back again and I swear these people are just really stupid and are not trained. I again ask for another letter of the closed fraudulent acct. If you have an acct with these people, save yourself a future headache and close it. There are much more professional cards and banks you can deal with.

I apply for my first credit card and get an approval from Credit One. Worst mistake of my life. Five months later I see that my card has been paid off. I call into there customer service and explain the problem and they tell me not to worry about it look at it as a gift. Two days later I call back because my card had been charged for something I didn't do. I call in and they tell me about the charges at Walmart the day after the card was paid off. I hadn't used the card in over a month. I'm not getting angrier and angrier with the person on the other end and end up closing the account and telling to start a fraud investigation. Three days later I call again to confirm the account had been closed. Four weeks later I get a notice in the mail that I owe $556.00. I pass it off knowing the account is supposed to be in an investigation. Now I am getting debt collectors calling me for the balance due. I call Credit One again completely enraged and the investigation was never started the account wasn't closed and I can't understand a damn thing they're saying. They're still telling me I owe $556.00 and that they will start an investigation and will call me back. DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS BANK. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. I TRULY BELIEVE THEY ARE A SCAM!

I applied for and received a Credit One credit card several years ago. I manage most accounts online, including making payments. Credit One doesn't allow making payments much in advance. I usually like to schedule a payment the same day I receive an e-mail with my new statement. With Credit One, you can't do that. If you make a payment, it gets attention immediately. Sometimes, that is fine. Sometimes, I want to pay at or around the due date. If I do that, I need to remember to get back online at that time. So far, so good.
My other issue is a little more important. I was out of town for an extended length of time and had my mail held until my return. When I returned, I had a ginormous sack of mail to go through. There was an envelope from Credit One. Sadly, since I receive paperless billing, I assumed that mailing was junk mail and set it aside. Later, when making a payment to my CO account, I noted an additional credit card tied to my account with payment due within a couple of days for membership fees.
I believe this is a deceptive and sneaky practice. Of course, tied to the account was an account protection service.
Overall, I have no huge issues with this credit card company. However, I do believe users need to be aware.
