A bunch of nonsense promises and lies designed to make you want to pay them money. They really just want your credit card information so they can bill you without telling you, hoping you won't notice. You'll see false testimonials that it's a "good" site as well - what a pathetic joke.
I called to cancel my 85 y/o moms account and get a refund of the yearly fee they auto charged 2 weeks ago. My mother doesn't use classmates and can't even see the computer screen. The supervisor said she'd been using it, but it was me trying to find out if she had an account after seeing it on her discover bill. Mom wasn't using it and didn't have a password to get in. I had to make a password to even see if she had an account. I told her all this and the supervisor argued with me until I was totally frustrated and hung up. Classmates trains their supervisors to be cold, callous, and greedy. This is a company that is taking advantage of elders.
I am constantly getting emails from them telling that someone has added a new photo. It's a lie. The photos have never been updated by the people that they claim.
Classmates is like the Roach Motel... you can check in but you can never check out. I have requested cancellation of my subscription several times... they make dealing with them so difficult... run around, run around, run around. They won't let you change anything unless you can give them the last 4 digits of the credit card you used to set up the account decades ago! Finally, I went to my bank credit card to block them from billing me again. Dreadful service.
They charge you to get in touch with classmates but only they have their address and you can only communicate through their website and you must be a gold member which costs $39 year which they will take from your credit card without notifying you. They claim that in accepting the first time you must make sure it is then a manual renewal. Biggest scam ever and not even a good social networking site, It is not worth any money and will be contacted by my credit card company that they will not be paying the charge because I checked manual as I know how these companies work. Terrible site stay away from it at all costs,
After subscribing, the names of people who "visited" me were blurred out. I reached out to customer service for assistance with this issue - they responded by giving me the option to cancel my subscription. I have managed many help desk/CSR operations and would have retrained/terminated anyone who provided this sub-standard level of service. Step-up Classmates with at least a modicum of service for subscribers.
Classmates advertises a 50% price reduction, but when you give your credit cardo info below in the small print it states that it is automatic renewal for regular price till you officially cancel. They store your personal info even though you have not officially joined and are just receiving emails from them.
As an attorney, I find this site performing illegal practices including invasion of privacy, deceptive trade practices, false advertising.
I have not received notifications of profile visits or anything since January 2023! Everything on my end is how it should be. I called them but you have to pay a 3rd party for help! Extremely disappointed in classmates. Com!
They automatically renew without any warning. Be careful. It's older than the hills, they lied about sending notice to take your money which is more than double from previous year. Will not cancel membership or refund no matter what financial hardship it created. Horrible horrible buisness! NO ETHICS!
Do NOT use this site (classmates.com). Same problem as the other reviewers... no prior notice before billing your credit card, and from what I read, no refund once they have. Plus no way to contact them by phone to try and get cancellation resolved. Thats bs! I will NEVER use any of their affiliated sites either. Scammers at this point in time... stick to facebook. Ripoff, ripoff, ripoff.
I signed up hoping to learn more about my classmates from 40 years ago. While our class was farily large (more than 800 students), there is no participation from them on Classmates.com. There are usually weeks or even months without a single update.
I've posted a few pictures myself, yet Classmates.com sends me spam constantly asking me to post a picture.
Time to move on.
First, I admit, I never joined beyond a free listing. I looked at Classmates because they bought our previous alumni site (which was good!) from the original developer. Classmates messed up a good thing. The Classmates navigation was/is all over the place, they didn't bring over most of the content from our previous site (didn't fit their format I suppose), the site was and still is buggy and slow. I've checked back over the last couple years, very little gets updated, I have never actually been contacted by a classmate from Classmates (I couldn't reciprocate if they had because I didn't have a paid membership) but I keep getting these notices- "A friend remembered you!" Baloney. I've followed a couple of those messages and they go nowhere, except it allows them to keep emailing me. You think I would learn. Please quit sending me messages, Classmates. You're done. Why bother with you when there's a class Facebook page that gets updated every week, it's fast, and it's free?
The people who've viewed my Classmates profile are people who were at my schools at the same time. Which is fine. But now it's just stopped at a certain amount of visitors and that's it. Yet there are people who's profile say's they've had 400 views. How is that possible?
This is an auto renew rip off that won't give a refund even though I requested it within 24 hours of the charge and I hadn't used it nor will I use it ever. I took the 3 month trial expecting to review it before the auto renew date and, due to family matters, missed that date by 24 hours. I called their customer service and spoke to supervisor Crystal who just said "too bad", we don't issue refunds under any circumstance! I have filed a complaint with the BBB and suggest everyone to do the same!
BEWARE:
CLASSMATES.com has automatic renewal and will charge your credit card whether you agree to it or not... year after year!
I found a 39 dollar charge on a card I no longer use for services I have not used for over a year or more.
From now on you must read every tiny bit of print when using a credit card online.
"Mad as hell!"
When U NO contact us info is NOT available... beware!
I signed up on discounted rates for 2 yrs... 6 mo later i received another notice... time ti renew. So I thought I just paid a 2 yr fee... So did the discounted rate for 2 yrs again... well here it is... 6 mo later my account is froze... Until I pay. WHATTTTTT. No way to see your billing info or anything...
ITS A SCAM! They even have drummed up people viewing your account... many times just to get u in to see who it is... unbelievable!
Unhappy, and have contacted. Hoping for a reply more than hope. I ordered a 1963 yearbook and paid, they sent me a 2010 yearbook, the WRONG book. How can they make that mistake, unless shipping is just grabbing books and sending wrong ones?
Classmates.com recently increased their membership fee from $36.00 to $96.00 for a 2-year membership. This is a 167% increase.
When I saw this appear on my credit card 3 days after they automatically charged me, I called classmastes.com to cancel the service and request a refund.
I was told they do not give refunds.
This is TERRIBLE customer service.
I don't recommend doing business with this company.
Classmates is not like they advertise, really no information about your classmates, site hard to navigate.
If you do subscribe they automatically renew your subscription without your consent withb no refunds. Extremely rude staff. They really border on being a scam outfit. From their response to customers you are valued. Its pay for nothing. My advice do not bother with them.
I payed classmates to try it. It is very very slow. I did not like it at all crappy. Thin they swiped my credit card with out my permission. Could not get an answer why and they doubled the amount. I advise people to stay away they are low class these.
Answer: Use Paypal... you can stop any further auto pay before the next billing Year.
Answer: It may be possible. I can't say that for sure, but I do suspect foul play somewhere because it happened to me. I mean, my bank account was $18/mo since August 2021 and now $21.60 this year for something I swear that I never signed up for, and they insist that I did. When I called them to inquire about it, the rep (a woman named Paula), she rudely and quickly insisted the charges were legit because according to THEM, I had signed up for a 3-month membership--which is completely not untrue. She spoke fast, hardly let me talk, and hung up on me while I was still talking. That further may prove that perhaps there's foul play on their part. But, I cannot prove it. However, I strongly believe there's got to be some mistake (on their part) or some kind of fraud somewhere. If I were you, I wouldn't deal with these rude reps. Maybe go straight to the manager/supervisor. If that doesn't work, and you really think there's fraud, I would take it with and dispute it with your bank. I hope that helps
