On May 3 - 8, I had been on the website. I saw the $29 fee plan but did not opt for it. I lost interest in chess.com. However, on May 10,2018, Chess.com went ahead and charged my credit card $29. The phone number that appeared with that charge, *******827 is never answered by a person. Only an answering machine on which I have plaintively made my request for a cancellation of the $29. I have left that message every day for now eight days. So, it seems that Chess.com is poorly administered, rather sleazy, with perhaps some 'web-fraud' tendencies.
Tony Carleton my email is *******@gmail.com
You can still report an opponent cheated on Chess.com but no longer given an option to describe the issue. This indicates to me they are so full of often justified complaints of cheating that they don't have to time to read all the correspondence.
I was playing chess with chess.com application more than a year and I'm so disappointed now. Lots of cheating and unnecessary times from your opponent. There is NO management and responsibility from it's leader team. Friends are not friends and scoring is NOT fair! If you respect your mindfulness, don't think about this junk app.
You create a login. Play, win and suddenly your account is closed for no reason at all.
Biased for Asian users it keeps on doing it from time to time.
I usually pick "beginner" to start with and win good 20-30 matches in a row. But as soon as I reach 1600+ the account gets banned for no reason at all.
The servers hang, no support staff, no replies to emails, nothing.
I agreed to pay a monthly fee of approximately $10 for my grandson to improve his game. However they charged me $129.89 for some unknown reason. I have called their toll free # which my bank gave me but no call back from them!
I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone
Chess.com has one of the worst records of fairness for any chess site. The ELO scores don't match any other sites because so many players on chess.com use engines to cheat in games. On top of that, the "moderators" on their forums ban players for bringing up the cheating problem in their discussion forums since discussing it would put a dent in their revenue if the widespread cheating was acknowledged.
On chess.com I like to use the review feature to analyze my games and see my mistakes I ran out of free reviews for the day and was given the option to upgrade in order to unlock the feature. When I pressed upgrade I was shown only yearly plans and purchase a year of subscription thinking I was buying a month. Not only that you can't use the review unless you get the more expensive plan. Shady practices to say the least
Chess.com claims a draw each and every time it is being beaten badly. As a player, (a) why am I not given the same option, and (b) why aren't we challengers given an opportunity to play beyond Chess.com's claimed: "draw". I have moved to play online elsewhere until these flaws are fixed.
I have been playing chess for over 20 years, I was a member of USCF rated 1800. I was a paid member at chess.com. If your opponent is a sore loser or didn't like you, he/she can flag you as "poor sport". Therefore, the "poor sport" group, only playing each other's. My reporting to chess.com of cheaters, runners, speech hate, Etc. was ignored for several months, and I found myself isolated from "real chess players", I was allowed to play ONLY against cheaters and "poor sport" players. Cheaters are welcome at chess.com. AVOID!
Hi Ben,
Sorry to reiterate my response, I'm not certain if you've seen my message where you posted elsewhere:
I'd like to clarify something very important. "Poor Sports" do NOT include cheaters. If a member is determined to have cheated in their games, they are removed from the site. The option to flag someone as a poor sport gives us feedback on potential problems, such as intentional disconnection and stalling, or inappropriate language. It does not lead to automatic player pool changes. If you're added to a player pool due to unintentional disconnection or a possible mistake in abusive language detection, you can always write to us at support@chess.com, so we can review your account. Any improper restriction can be immediately removed. We've only implemented these measures to protect our members.
Thanks!
Chess.com has the first step of a tournament! A great source in my family. To be honest, I do have one con. The chat could be rude. I have got called a "loser". And somebody said "Bad Move". No problem with that just go in to settings and turn off chat. If you agree with this review and download the app 95% turn off chat. I do like that you can play some one and choose up to 30 min. A big question is "Are they bots?" No they are not. My proof is that I coordinated with a friend and searched the account and guess what, It worked. If you don't know how to play. Play a lesson. If you want to use your skills play a tactic. BTW you only have to pay $5 for more tactics everyday. Please show chess.com support by making an account or as many as you can. I hope my review convinsed you to get Chess.com.
They don't care about harassment, the basic functions or rules of chess, or the integrity of their software on any device. Riddled with issues on IOS, Android and even their site website!
I don't recommend giving these developers the ad watch time their hoping for, and I absolutely can't recommend going premium- unless a feature is to automatically uninstall this piece of software from your device. Literally go buy a board and watch some videos, you'll have a better time and you'll learn actual chess.
There are so many flaws with this site, for one, miss clicks, I know all online chess is like this, but they should at least give you a warning saying "Are you sure you want to move there", I have lost so many games thanks to it, another thing, is I play 3 minute chess, and even if your connection is superb, when there is 20 seconds left and I'm one move away from checkmate, it says my connection has been lost, and I lose the game. Not only that, if you play enough games, you will find that you play black about 75% of the time. And if that wasn't enough, they try to make you pay a stupid amount of £66 a year for some extra perks, without these you can only play the games, which is a huge scam as the tutors probably cheat aswell.
What a con. Whenever you make a legal move it doesn't like (especially at high level) it flips out stopping the move, pretending it is due to Google Chrome or whatever. Just persist, persist and eventually you will break it. Man is mightier than machine!
Hi!
Did you find that you could not make a legal move in a game against the computer? Or was it in a game against a human opponent in live or daily chess?
When you say that it stops the move, is that to say that you will see the piece animation showing it moving towards the square you selected, but then it will jump back to its initial position?
It could be that your "Move Method" settings within "Board and Pieces" are set to "Drag Pieces." If you check your settings on Chess.com (https://www.chess.com/settings/board), and you find this to be the case, you may want to try changing it to "Click Squares." Then there is less of a possibility that your moves will be misinterpreted by the website.
If you are willing to provide additional details about this problem, or if you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know here or at support@chess.com.
Thank you!

I have used the free version and have paid for the full version also. I can only say that I have come back to it almost two years later and the site has improved once again. So many features. Most bad reviews are ridiculous. "I kept losing". "My rating went down". "Time was rigged". Ridiculous defaming of a wonderful company doing so much to further chess. Keep up the good work.
Hi!
I am glad that you enjoy using Chess.com and believe that the site has improved after your return. It is great that you enjoy all of the features on the site and that you have decided to upgrade for full access.
Please let us know at support@chess.com if you have ideas about how we can make Chess.com more to your liking. We will continue to work on improving Chess.com.
Thank you!

Don't expect to last long on chess.com. Especially if you improve. You will be accused of cheating and then you will be banned. It is done by robots so you will not be able to appeal. It doesn't matter if you've spent money on a membership you will eventually be banned. I've overheard conversations amongst scholastic players. "My chess rating is really good." "Yeah, well, I'm so good I've been banned by chess.com"
Overall, this is a great game and recommend to everyone. A few issues to watch out for, one if you abort more then once, your now in jeopardy of losing rank if you try and abort. This is unfair and ridicules, If I do not want to play someone I should have the right to abort with out losing rank points. Theses point are to show a player where you are in skill level, and helps support the competitive portion of the game bu, t if you lose points for not playing someone, these system becomes flawed and frustrating, and loses integrity. We work so hard to build up this ranking, only to lose points for reasons outside the purpose of the points. Chess.com find another way to punish good players that may not want to play everyone you put in front of us. It hurts nothing to abort, there are plenty of matches waiting for all. GET a clue and fix this.
This site is full of bots and cheats. Even there support team which is non existent are bots. This website is a f:;(ing joke. Don't ho here unless you want to lose to computer bots from obscure countries.
I expect a web site to work if I'm paying for it. The site would disconnect multiple times on my home and work computer. It would take multiple attempts to get it back. I cancelled my membership before the free trial was over; we will see if they charge me anyway.
Used to be a great site. Then they allowed the MAC Keeper ad. This slows your MAC computer to a crawl and prevents any enjoyment of the online fast games. So you just abort or resign when this ad comes on. Disturbs your enjoyment and your games and certainly prevents your true ranking to be shown.
The things some people will do for money.
I notice that there's a lag when I moved my peaces. So many times when you've moved there suddenly is an other peace moved. Also getting warnings that I rejected a game. But I didn't. Also a lot players using chess engines. And the most irritating thing is that when you leave a comment ,they delete you.
They are bad losers.
Hi!
I am sorry to hear that there is a connection issue that causes lag, and that sometimes when you move one piece another piece moves. Please contact us at support@chess.com with your username and we will work with you to improve your experience. We do NOT want players to have a difficult time because of connection issues.
If you could send the username of opponents you suspect of using computers to win, we will submit a report on these players and our cheat detection team will analyze their games for potential use of outside assistance from computer engines. Chess.com invests a lot of staff, time, and resources into making sure that people cannot cheat and use outside help during games. We also encourage players to report opponents who they suspect of cheating, and we thoroughly investigate these individuals to make sure that they are playing according to the rules.
You can report players for potential cheating directly. Please go to their profile page and click the exclamation point icon below and to the far right of their profile picture. Then you can submit a report on this player. You can learn more about our cheat detection efforts here: https://tinyurl.com/y5fcxb6w.
If you are ever again concerned about possible cheating, please let us know here or at support@chess.com. Please also feel free to send us any questions or suggestions that you may have.
Thank you!

Answer: Yes, there are lessons, tactics and videos to get your started, plus enough novice players to play against.
