I used this website several years ago, when my daughter was born in 2006. They were decent, and I paid extra to have the applicants' background records checked, as I thought and still think that it's worth the money. I have a babysitter that I use currently. She's great, and she has signed up on care.com to get extra work. She asked me to write a review for her, and when I went to the site, I learned that I have to buy a membership to write a review! Never in my life have I heard of such a scam. I am telling her to write in her bio that references are available upon request. --- Unbelievable. The concept is a good one, and surely care.com can make money in meaningful ways that people will actually pay for, but this is NOT one of them.
I found this site through Indeed.com, and so created a profile only to find you have to pay THEM to even apply for a job. And apparently if you want to hire someone you also have to pay THEM. So seriously DO NOT WASTE your time or money with this web site. Utter bull$#*!!
Less than 12 hrs after I activated an account and paid for services, I received an email stating they have canceled my membership without stating any reason and that it is their policy to do so without explanation. After checking my bank account to see if they refunded me, they actually charged me twice for one of the extra services. I'm going to call back Monday during their normal business hours, but after reading further reviews about similar problems, I will not be using care.com nor will I recommend them to anyone.
They call themselves a click and go site. No refunds. Say policy is on the site. I could not find it. The customer service person kept quoting a policy. When I called the policy stupid. She accused me of cursing and threatened to hang up. Charge you extra for everything. I can not believe BBB gave them a 4.5. The basic free membership only allows you to post a job. They charge you a monthly fee for connections then another $60 for background checks and driving records, but don't let you know it's a $60 charge until it's on your card. Again no refunds. They also charge the potential employees as well so they are getting paid twice. Rip off. They also have unseen charges on employee sides too like applications. You can go on Angie's list or other sites for free, buy background checks on verify yourself. It still would be cheaper.
I cannot believe they are still in business, no body take any action, just complaining? Who is really interested in a lawsuit against them? Send me an email :*******@yahoo.com
My issue with Care.com is that after 6 PM and on weekends no one can provide help with their website. If you have an issue sending messages or receive messages from potential nannies or caregivers you cannot resolve the situation until Monday at 10 AM or before 6 PM. So I missed out on three dates of services with no restitution from Care.com. Unacceptable!'
I was using it to find child and pet care jobs around me. Up to a point I was able to avoid fees, but in order for anyone to be able to reply to me about jobs I had applied to I would have to pay to join. Scammy and frustrating since it puts up a legitimate facade.
I posted a job online and I had several people who applied to the job. However, I would have to pay care.com $50 to respond to any of the messages. It would cost more to respond to the people on Care.com than it would to pay a professional cleaner from their website for $30 per hour. Obviously, I opted to hire a cleaning lady else where such as Craigslist, which is completely free!
From the other spectrum, I offered my services as a dog walker and paid $15 for 10 tokens. I applied to two jobs and received no offer. No wonder I haven't received any offers, it's because it would cost the person $50 per month to be in contact with me.
Care.com is all about making their money first and not connecting people to jobs. If they connected people first and got a commission off the salary, they would have a lot more people using their website. I understand that the website needs to make their money, but they should set up a system like airbnb where they are paid based on a successful connection and percentage of the fees. It would connect more people and people would be willing to recommend the website.
Its useless website. They took £29 for a month and none of the cleaners on the website responded to my messages and I sent messages to quite a few.
Also their subscription is auto renewable. Make sure you cancel auto renew if you want subscription for a month.
I have been apart of care. Com as well as many agency's online & and off. And VERY FEW successful Nanny agency's charge the nanny, not even top agency's in Los Angeles & S. F,, I guess the owner wants to capitalize on it's popularity. I think it's a bad career move, and Projects the website as "Cheap & Tacky, "after I finish writing this review, I am saying."Adios" to care. Com, and dismantling my Nannie Profile, and switching to a nanny website that's not basking in GREED!
This has to be a foreign company you get a rep speaking with a heavy accent I don't know if it is with a Indian accent or Philippine all I know is they are ripping allot of people off to make matters worse they have a commercial out on tv seeming as if they are legit I would report them to the attorney general the better business bureau all they will do is send them a letter and wait for their response if they don't get back to the bureau that's it I am glad that I did not pay these people money no one needs to pay any body money to find them a job you can do that on your own especially not to a #$%& foreign company.
The site is difficult to navigate, and the only "job" offers I received were from con artists (beware the sob stories from supposedly deaf or disabled people!).
I posted a job looking for a local rabbit sitter and the post was very detailed so that there could be no misunderstandings for both parties. I had a lady interested (not local), and I asked if the distanced would be a problem, to which the reply was NO. This was then followed up by phone call, and EVERYTHING was discussed, in terms of what I expected and a price was AGREED. We then had a meeting and I was then convinced that I had agreed to one visit a day, not two and at this stage I should have said 'on your bike' but I was trying to be reasonable and agreed to one visit a day. The lady then left with my house keys. Shortly after, I sent a text just to confirm dates and the price and the text back was quite a shock, basically saying they were reluctantly accepting the price even though I had given them additional duties (post and bins). For the sake of keeping the peace, I replied and said dont worry about these tasks as I will ask family to do this. The other tasks that this woman was referring to had in no uncertain terms been agreed. At this point, I realised she was trying to be greedy and get more money even though she was getting a fair price and told her not to bother and to give me a time to collect my keys. Fourteen hours later I got a reply, basically demonstrating how unpleasant she really was. So needless to say, thank God I have seen the back of her, as I wouldn't entrust her with a goldfish let alone my precious pets and house. Incidentally the price agreed was £200 (2weeks)for one visit per day (quote''a brief visit if it would be raining!'')even taking into the cost of the round trip, she would be earning approx £16 per hour pro rata, this is after deducting the £6 fuel amount. By anyones standard, this is a very good rate of pay. Thankfully I have been recommended a PROFESSIONAL wonderful lady, who is by all accounts honest, not greedy, ensures each visit is a FULL 30 mins and does not charge extra for bringing in mail etc. and more importantly does not renage on an agreement. This lady is also legitamately qualified and experienced with MANY references, so basically it is win, win for us.
I agree that there are either fake employer profiles or people posting and not paying which mislead Care independent contractors to conclude after a while that the company is deceiving it's I. C.'s. Seek elsewhere for employment; do not rely solely on this site as it will disappoint. It is good if you want to promote yourself through their profile settings but otherwise there are no guarantees for work.
I joined to find a cleaning lady. Once I got applications I found I had to pay to see their info. No way! I was an ad taker at a newspaper. One party pays! Period! This is double dipping. Ridiculous.
I just tried to create a profile as a job seeker, and whatever software Care.com uses freaks me out. I entered my real name (of course) but a false birthdate, as I don't like random websites to know too much about me. I also entered a general address - a nearby intersection, not my actual address. Apparently it didn't matter what I entered because they then asked me to verify several pieces of information, including my actual address, a city that I lived in 10 years ago, and a couple of other pieces of information that they had somehow gotten from me. I refused to verify these so my profile was rejected. I will never go to this site again, and would highly recommend NOT creating a profile if you haven't already.
I have gotten 2 nanny jobs from Care.com. One position lasted 6 years and I just got the other job in May. I never signed up for the premium service and was able to have contact with potential employers. I had several potential employers contact me and was never scammed.
But I will state that my daughter has signed up and has been scammed twice already. She also has 2 legitimate potential employers she is talking to right now.
Unfortunately there are evil, greedy people in this world and if it sounds too good to be true it is. All of the scammers are moving from out of state and who in their right mind would hire someone that they have never met or done a backgound check on to watch their children and pay them more than double what most people would pay. The last scammer wants to send her a check so she can then sent money to a toy store in Texas so the car seat and toys can be sent to her. Why can't he do that... so sad the dishonesty in this world
I signed up for Care.com as a care provider (nanny). I applied to approximately 50 nanny positions, and received a few responses, but ultimately no work. This is important - when you sign up for Care.com, if you do not upgrade your account and pay the monthly membership fee, your messages will NOT be able to be read by families, unless they are paying the monthly membership fee. If neither party is paying the fee, the message CANNOT be read. Care.com does not readily disclose this information to caregivers. When I discovered this, I was incredibly upset as I had wasted hours reading through ads and applying to positions, sending messages that would most likely not be read. I then signed up for the membership and paid the $20 fee. CARE.COM CHARGED ME THE $20 FEE FOUR TIMES. When I called, they told me that their system was showing only one $20 fee, not four. I then e-mailed them a screenshot of my bank statement showing the four debits, and they informed me there was nothing they could do. I had to call my bank and have the extra charges removed, which took several days. After I paid for the membership, I completed a background check and applied to approximately 150 more positions, and received responses from FIVE PEOPLE. OUT OF 150. Care.com lists my profile as being "in the top 5% of caregivers". The fact that the response percentage rate to my applications was LOWER than the top percentile I am in speaks volumes about this website's integrity and value. I also started receiving text messages from random people who stated they had gotten my phone number from Care.com and that they were interested in hiring me for a nanny position. These text messages were all scams. I received approximately 50 scam text messages. My number is not publicly displayed on my Care profile so what that means is that Care.com's servers are not secure or that someone who works for them is selling site users' information to third parties. Please - STAY AWAY from this website. If you are a caregiver, post a nanny ad on Craigslist or try word of mouth. I would give this website 0 stars if I could.
Thank you so much for sharing this I received the same message from the same mother this morning, so decided to do a bit of research before even sending my information to her. This is so sad how can people sell people stories like these.
The people on that website are a mix of professionals and some desperate liers who think with making up stories about themselves can gain parents' trust! I happened to only meet the lier type. The sit itself is a rip off too. They made it so difficult to understand the subscription system and they will automatically renew your subscription without notifying you. They charged me 35£ for a second month. I haven't even logged into that account for over a month. When I complained their response was: "sorry, our terms and conditions says we don't grant any refund" I think this is blatantly rubbing people in day light.
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
