Capital One has engaged in misleading practices and strategies, acting unfairly and exploiting loopholes to gain undue advantages over their customers and consumers regarding late fees. They utilize Visa and MasterCard systems, paying a service fee to these networks. While they incur an $8 charge for late fees, they impose a $40 fee on me and their other customers. By levying these exorbitant fees, they benefit at the expense of their customers and consumers. This constitutes unfair, deceptive, and misleading business practices. If you have fallen victim to late fees, please report them to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and reclaim your funds. Begin to reclaim your power by understanding the actions of these major credit card issuers. You are entitled to compensation for their abusive practices. It is time for us to unite and boycott Capital One.
I am a longtime user of Capital One banking, and it's been fine. I started getting bombarded with invitations to apply for their Savor Card. It sounded good, in large part because is offered a $200 bonus if you spent $500 in three months. I applied, got the card, and spent the required amount. But I never saw the $200 reward. I spoke to a supervisor today, and was told I was "not eligible" for the bonus. I consider this fraudulent bait and switch, and want to warn people to think hard about applying for the card.
After years of being a loyal Capital One customer, I am appalled by the way my recent and only fraud claim, which I have made throughout the years, was handled. Someone, somehow, obtained my credit card information and made a fraudulent purchase with my card. Capital One's "investigation" concluded that they "couldn't find enough evidence to prove I wasn't the person who bought it." This is beyond insulting. It feels as if Capital One has chosen to treat a long-standing, loyal customer as a liar and a thief. This experience has completely shattered any trust I had in Capital One's commitment to protecting its customers. Their "fraud protection" is a complete sham. My loyalty means absolutely nothing to them. I feel dismissed, disrespected, and utterly betrayed. This is unacceptable, and I will be looking elsewhere for a bank that values and protects its customers.
For over 8 years now, I have not used my card or account for a very simple reason: Capital One only has ONE customer verification method: a text code to a US-based telephone number. Problem is, I don't reside in the USA--I am retired abroad. Most other companies I used (Amex, Citicard, my US bank, Paypal, all text a code to my overseas number or to my email address for authentication, but not Cap One. So periodically they send me an email threatening to close my account, and every year I call them to see if they have updated their verification method, and every year, after spending 20 minutes on the telephone with customer service, they tell me the same thing: they can only text to a US-based number. Well, I've had it. I'm going to let the account close and be done with them. Not everyone resides in the USA or uses a US telephone number. Why should we? I'm retired and living overseas. I am not going to buy and maintain a US number just for these jokers so Capital One: I'm done. Adios and hasta la vista.
I opened a Cap One checking account so I could have an ATM card while traveling overseas. I was locked out of my credit card account because I am unable to receive a text code to my overseas telephone number. I have had this problem since I moved overseas ten years ago and Capital One has done NOTHING in ten years to correct this problem. Consequently, I have not used my credit card in that time.
The problem THIS time was that they would not unlock my ATM card which is attached to my checking account and so I was unable to access my own money. A supervisor told me that I could upload my ID and she would re-set my pin. This did not happen. When I called back and spoke to another supervisor, i was told that I was given erroneous information and that my pin would be mailed to me at my US address. This is utterly useless since I am not there and even if someone could open my mail and tell me the pin, this would take 7 - 10 business days.
Instead, I am closing my account and I am finished with this so-called bank. Their reps are ignorant of their own policies and they do NOTHING to support customers when they are traveling abroad. Shameful service and ignorant employees.
Liars and frauds. I requested that the two late payments I had 3.5 years ago during COVID protection be removed. Instead, they falsified my details and changed them to recent late payments, further hurting my score.
About 90% of my interaction with Capital One has been great so far, in these past 10+ years. To be fair, I mostly use their online website, which is very nice and advance. Any time I have a question their bot or their official online forums is able to ask it. I have a lovely High Yields Saving with them, a couple of their banks near by (but not as close as some other), I do checking with them, and have a couple credit cards with them, with amazing limits, and great rewards. Yet I could definitely get a better apr rate and BT offers. The only time I ever had a issue over the phone or their website, was last year. I put in a payment, but it wasn't showing pending like it normally does on my dashboard, and I also didn't get a email about it. I then called in to speak to a female representative. She didn't sound too enthusiastic. I asked her did she see any pending payments for me, she said no she didn't. So I went ahead and did another payment, but all of a sudden, both payments appear in pending. I managed to cancel one of them myself. But I find it hard to believe she tried at all to look at my account in the back end, to see if a payment was pending. Anyways, overall and all in all, I love me some Capital One. So this isn't a complaint about the company, but just praise. Keep moving forward and don't move backward please.
Customer service is nonexistent... they want to banner with you instead of helping you resolve unauthorized charges. It's as if you have to do everything yourself and spend many hours proving the fraudulent change.
I've spend quite a bit of money on my credit cards that I have with capital one.
I had one dispute for a $127, and capital. One keeps running me through the grinder. Asking me for more information, even though I sent everything that they needed to write off the expense.I am going to be canceling the credit cards that I have with them.
I run a business, and I would accredited a customer that's been through everything.I've been through not to lose a good customer, but apparently it doesn't matter any data companies...
Capital One sent me a credit card that I never applied for with a $500.00 limit. I decided to use it for my business and I would use it to buy pizza supplies for my pizzeria. At the end of the month I would pay it off. Sometimes I would use it and pay it off the next day. Today they sent me a fraud notice email and they told me to call them ASAP. I was pretty concerned so I called them right away. The fraud had nothing to do with any purchase but rather because I was paying off their credit card on time every month. Now they want me to prove that I was making the payment even though I have never missed a payment or a payment has never been returned. They actually said that someone else could be making a payment on my account? I said, please tell me who this person is that would be paying off my credit card every month?
The bottom line is that capital one is upset that they aren't able to charge me any interest because I pay the monthly balance off every month. Screw them!
No assistance, phone banking is useless, therefore visit a branch instead. The majority of their high street banks have closed, and the ones that remain are understaffed, uninterested, and obviously disconnected from their real customers.
What services did I require? Activate my daughter's account and pay a bill. It's not that difficult.I was told to report the situation to *TRE/ (BLES) /LTD(COM)** I provided the details they requested, waited a few days, and then received my money back.
They want a copy of my driver's license and ten days to review documents to get a credit card reissued. USAA overnights it.
Online no help, phone banking can't help so go to a branch except they have shut most of their high street banks and those left open are understaffed, Interested and clearly have no connection with their actual clients.
Services I needed…? Pay a bill and activate my daughter's account. Not exactly rocket science.Someone advised me to report the case to GAARD,IO I gave the the necessary information they needed and I waited for few days the I go my money refunded back to me
Capital One gives customers wrong information. They say when you use Capital One card and make a purchase through Expedia, you will get 12% back. It is a big lie. They rob money from customers because they do not give the 12% back as promised. Be careful not to fall in this trap.
30+ years with Capital One with excellent payment history, low usage, and account paid in full every month. Cap One refused to waive $15 fee for missed payment by one day. Tried to escalate to manager-level authority and apparently "they don't take calls." "They do administrative work."
I cannot believe the lack of customer service I just experienced. Unfortunately not able to select 0 stars.
Capital One's systems did crash,
Right as lawsuits came in a flash.
Their fraud was exposed,
Their doors nearly closed—
Guess downtime is cheaper than cash!
This company isn't worth your time
This company isn't worth your time. I've been a customer for 10 years in both auto and credit. I'm thankful I didn't get a mortgage through them. My wife also has become a loyal customer because of it. I had in mind to build an advantage in credit purchases by being an exemplary loyal customer. This company never increased my credit limits, gave me a fair offer or followed through when I expected it. We got well over a dozen preapprofved auto offers basically promising up to ******* between my wife and I for a car. I applied for4r a used vehicle. Everyone else said yes. They said no. Not a dollar. This is far from the first time but it's going to be the last. The customer service when I called in was as I totally expected...worse than useeless.

You run the risk of lowering your credit score although it says applying doesn't impact your credit score. IT DOES!
I was offered a credit card with a $200 deposit. I didn't want to do that and after two days my credit scored lowered by 2 points. Not ideal if you're really working to increase it.
I need to call several times due to customer service being horrendous. I'd avoid this business and go with one that is transparent with its customers.
Capitol One Customer Service is the Worst
It is near impossible to get anyone who understands English. They know English words but can't comprehend the English language. I had a restricted card for late payments due to a car wreck.
Hospitalization. They lifted restrictions on another card but not one. I think the original agent didn't enter all the information. They said they couldn't lift it but it wasn't canceled. They don't understand restricted verses canceled. Four different agents just kept pushing me to open a new account but you can't open a new account with a restricted card. It was the worst circle with everyone. I canceled the account. To which they said, no more charges would go through. It was restricted so they wouldn't go through anyway. I am canceling my other 2 cards and the car loan I was just approved for from them. I would never give them business again.
You do the pre approval they say yes your approved and tell you your limit then you fill out the whole thing upload ur info then selfie then they change it to a secured Mastercard where you have to put the Money on it yourself but still get charged interest. Noooooooo thanks that's why there's a thing called a bank account.
Answer: No really I can't I mean from the very beginning they said they mailed it and then a week later when I called and they had not mailed it yet when I checked my bank they take the money out of my bank and then tell me they're going to hold the money for 7 days to make sure the money is there I think they take the customers for granted in a big bad way
Answer: From my experience, they appear to be nothing but a shady scam bank.
Answer: They offered nice rewards back It sounded more impressive than it is. Big mistake.
Answer: This is the same issue I'm having with Capital One. They make mistakes and then drag their feet and act like nothing is wrong.
