I bought a Raleigh Talus 4 and when i got it and hopped on the rear derailleur got caught in the spoke some how and got dystroyed i then emailed the company and they refused to return it. I then took it to my local bike shop and they said it needed a new derailleur and hanger. I then emailed the company again and they once again refused to even give me the part number if i could i would give this company 0 stars because it is absurd that they can't even give the customers a part number. Please for the sake of yourself DO NOT BUY FROM THIS WEBSITE if magically you bike does work and you need help settling it up just go with a local bike shop who cares if some specs are better at least the bike shop is there to help you tune your bike and get everything up and running Hope This review will help
If you're looking for great price great service by your bike from them I have bought 2 Motobecane, a road bike and I just bought a Cyclecross with Shimono Ultegra 6800 disc brakes carbon stem fork and bars for just $1400 shipped my friends can't believe what I paid comparable to like $3000 plus bikes.
You can get a Titanium bike with top of the line shimano parts for a FRACTION of the cost of buying Trek or Giant. I could not believe the great parts that come with these bikes and to get it with titanium is a dream. FYI, I got a titanium mountain bike that weights in under 24 lbs, that would cost $5K and up from a brand name manufacturer.
Very happy with my new bike! Customer support (Larry) did great job to resolve minor issue. Would definitely be back for another bike if i need one.
You guys have a great website, and the bike I ordered was top quality! Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions!
Weight: 22 lbs (47 cm). Bike and shipping box were unharmed. Assembly took two easy hours. Paid $400.00. Best bike I've ever owned.
1. I purchased a Motobecane CXX from Bikes direct. Steel cyclocross frame and SRAM Apex components for $800. What a bargain. This bike is very nice, nicer than the two bikes I used for years and sold last month, a 1990 Bridgestone RB-1 and a 2007 Salsa El Mariachi. Granted both of those bikes are different than the CXX. I've been commuting on it every day for four weeks now, first week 28 miles/day then 13 miles/day. This is the perfect commute bike. It might be the perfect everything bike, unless you race *competitively* or weigh your bike more than you ride it.
2. The purchase was very smooth, I appreciate that they take the extra steps to verify identity.
3. Packaging was very good, everything was secure, nothing was going to get damaged in shipping unless some there was some real abuse by the carrier.
4. Very easy to assemble, but to be fair, I've put a half dozen bikes together from parts. I think it might be a bit daunting for someone not mechanically inclined.
5. I'd bet most of the bad reviews are from competitors selling the same thing with a name brand sticker on it for a lot more.
6. The website could use a redesign. It works well, but it looks old. That's why 4 stars, really the shopping experience and bike I purchased deserve 5 stars.
I messaged Larry about a problem with my bike and he took care of it. Awesome company that cares about the consumer!
I got my bike in three days. It arrived in perfect condition and the assembly needed was minimal. Great deal.
I bought two bikes there. And I do not regret. They are cool, were delivered quickly. So, I'm very happy.
I purchased gravity 29er 3 years ago and it has been a good bike, I have upgraded nearly everything. I broke rear derailluer last weekend, bikes direct does not have replacement derailleur in stock and states that it could be three months before they restock (if ever). My bike is now useless. Bikes direct (never answers the phone) responed in an email stating i should try local bike shop. I tried local and nobody can get this deraillur hanger.
I tried purchasing a new bike as it was time to upgrade and I didn't have a bike to ride. I find the perfect bike 27.5 moto full suspension in my size and receive a paypal error message trying to check out stating I need to contact bikes direct. (again no answer) emailed and got a response, sorry your size sold out after hours.
I have been back and forth with chris and larry in emails but they would not help me with derailleur or bike purchase. I was told cost margins are tight and they cant sell me a similar bike at the same price as sold out bike I tried to purchase. My options were pick another bike or go to your local bike store. Costumer service was absolutely no help.
I purchased the Fantom Pro TI 29er. It took 4 working days to arrive, which I thought was very reasonable. The only reason I didn't give 5stars is in my opinion there was more than 90% assembly. Besides seat, disk and wheels the front caliper and rear deraileur also required assembly. The rr deraileur high and low stops were adjusted. It took some time to get the proper cable setting and B tension setting, but there are good videos on YouTube. It took about 45 minutes to assemble and 1.5hrs to tune everything to my liking. The shock needs to be set to your weight and the Rock Shock pamlet that was provided does not give any PSI recommendations. Rock Shock's website has recommendations. Took it out on the trail and the bike is very fast. It carries speed much better than my 26 Stump Jumper FSR. I am glad I purchased from Bikes Direct. I saved money and learned how to tune the gears. Now as the cables and chain start to stretch, I am confident I will be able to adjust them on my own saving more money and time.
After reading other reviews on bikesdirect, I decided to make my first online purchase of a new bicycle. I chose the motobecane mirage. Bike was shipped within 5 days. Shipping box was received in good shape and had the bike together and test riding in less than 2 hours. Could hardly believe in the quality craftsmanship of this bike for the cost. Most bikes like this would cost over $200 more. After about 2 days of riding the bike I noticed that the front derailleur was not shifting properly. I took the bike to a bike shop to have them check the bike out and make any adjustments. The mechanic said that the front derailleur could be defective, after trying to adjust it to specifications. Had the derailleur replaced. Meanwhile I had contacted Larry of bikesdirect about the problem. Larry worked with me and I sent him the pictures of the defective derailleur and the new one on the bike. Bikesdirect refunded me for the new derailleur. The bike works great now and I couldn't be happier! :) Don M
Bought a MOTOBECANE single speed bike "TRACK BIKE" this thing is HORRIBLE. All the componets are very CHEAP, the frame is nothing but a piece garbage. Poor customer service. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PRODUCT TO BE DELIVERED TO YOUR PLACE. I did not like the bike and now I want to returned, so guest what. I will have to paid $50.00 more to delivered the bike back to them. Overral I WASTED $100 on delivery charges for a product that is GARBAGE. If you are going to spend $330 dollars on a bike that is garbage, you are better off buying a SCHWINN single speed bike and start from there, get it as a project bike, and you will be more happy and your money worth. DON BUT FROM THIS COMPANY, you will have nightmares. I hope I can get 100% refund of what I paid for that crap.
I bought a usman salauden and when i got it and hopped on the rear derailleur got caught in the spoke some how and got dystroyed, thank god all was fix by them
Very cool bike, and Great customer service (Thank you Larry)! Very fast response to any issue I had.
Boutique bikes at Walmart prices. Nobody can beat bikes direct prices. They stand behind their products and great customer support. Thanks Larry
I ordered a Motobecane Fantom 29er, received in the timeframe given, was EXACTLY as described in the listing and is PERFECT! I wasn't expecting a high-end mountain bike although Bikes Direct does have them, I was just wanting a decent, fairly equipped, fair priced bike to do a little off-roading and this certainly fits the bill. Bike was easy to assemble & required very little adjustment. I did have a small issue with the rear derailleur that I'm sure was bent during shipping (not Bikes Direct fault) but was easily straightened & everything works perfect. I've read numerous articles on the internet against buying a bike online BUT, if you know what you want, know what you NEED, then I'm certain Bikes Direct is where you need to buy your next bike. My overall experience was FANTASTIC & I highly recommend Bikes Direct! Thank you to all at Bikes Direct!
Hi,
Ordered a Motobecane 2015 Sturgis fat bike in orange back in March. Paid a slight discount to receive the bike at a later date. Date of delivery was May 15- May 25. In April I get an email that reads "Update on your order -
We have good news and bad news... Good news is that by placing your order early, you have beat the price increase! Bad news is that the factory is running a month behind on these so the arrival date has been pushed back by a month. We are now excpecting them late June/early July.
We appreciate your prolonged patience and will ship theses bikes as soon as they unload! If we get any new updates in the mean time, we be sure to notify you right away.
Thanks again for being a smart cyclist and saving hundreds off your new Fat Bike. If you have any questions or concerns, please reply to this email.
Best regards,
The Friendly Folks at Bikesdirect.com "
After reading this, I called and expressed how disappointed I was with the fact that I would have to wait an additional month to month and a half. I asked if there is anything they can do to make this situation better. I suggested maybe upgrading me to a slightly better model that would be available sooner and they flat right refused. Said my options are that I could wait or get a refund. I took the refund.
Will never do business with them, and will share my experience with the many folks that I ride with. DO NOT USE BIKES DIRECT, ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Answer: I would recommend that you think about a hybrid bike first, as the tires are larger & the 26 inch wheels are a bit stronger. Also, you will be more comfortable riding on an upright position. If you like it, use it to loose weight while saving for a decent road bike.
Answer: Hi - the bike depends upon the type of riding you want to do and what you want out of riding. Do you want comfort? Durability? Speed? More upright riding position? Definitely want to look at bikes with larger tires as they would be more comfortable. The CycleCross type bikes are fast but have a bit larger tires for more durability and comfort than a skinny tire road bike. Check out the OmniStrada which have knobbier and larger tires than the regular cross bikes. They also have top tech tubeless compatible rims which you can easily convert with sealant and kit to being virtually flat free :) Check them out: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/cross_bikes.htm
Answer: No. The bike should come ready to ride.
Answer: I ordered after hours on Wednesday night, recived confirmation of payment via PayPal instantly. Email receipt received Friday morning.

Hi Jason, We are sorry you were disappointed in the delay. Please understand, this was well beyond our control due to the WestCoast Unions Port Strikes causing massive delays and back ups for all imported goods. The congestion is resolved now and bike imports are flowing as they should. The Sturgis and NightTrain Motobecane Fatbikes are incredible bikes and we have them at incredible prices. About 50 to 60% Less than any other comparably equipped bike sold anywhere else. We sell out of these bikes constantly and expect more shipments all the time.
We hope you shop with us again,
Best wishes,
Joe
