I have never had a problem with the BBB taking and resolving a complaint. Even if the business is not a member of the BBB I always get a great resolution. The problem is people do not use them or do not want to take the time to file a complaint. The rating system is based on the size of the business. If I have 1mil customers and I get 1k complaints it is going to be a different rating as if I has 100k customers and I get 1k complaints. It is percentage based. I would say that if you are a legitimate business with legitimate business practices, you have nothing to worry about. If you are complaining here that your rating sucks or the BBB is a scam then you are going to be looked at as a crooked company or individual. I am just one voice but I know there are several people out there like myself that will not do business with a company that has a low rating. I for one use several resources like BBB, ROR, SiteJabber, and others. I am thankful for the job that the BBB does.

THIS IS A ZERO STAR REVIEW:

On 1-13-22 I wrote a review for a local business in Prescott Valley, Arizona. The Prescott Valley BBB noted they will email ne back within 6 days. This is now 28 days later and I not only posted this review once but twice.

I wouldn't recommend this BBB to anybody, and I'm ashamed to say that because the BBB in different parts of this country have helped me out numerous times.

BBB= PAID PROTECTION.
March 30, 2023

After catching my contractor committing FRAUD and proving it to the State of Ct and BBB the contractors ratings never changed, it stayed a consistent A+! Don't trust the BBB to tell you the truth. In the future if i need a contractor and they tell me they are affiliated with BBB i will throw them off my property.

BBB Ratings?
September 28, 2021

If you have a complaint against a business and google possible helpful suggestion; you will probably be directed to the BBB. I am over 70 years old and have probably filed 3-4 complaints in my lifetime. In every case, there was no resolution and the business will not answer your questions.
Instead of helping the consumer and trying to get the business to answer your questions, the BBB will allow the business multiple extensions, not press the company to answer questions, and eventually just drop your complaint. In addition to just dropping the case, the BBB does not always post the complaint... BUT YOU SHOULD NOT BE SURPRISED... THE BBB IS FUNDED BY THESE COMPANIES AND WILL PROVIDE THEM COVER AND INFLATE THEIR RATING. My suggestion is to make a complaint to the FTC and your attorney general.

BBB sucks
October 28, 2021

The BBB no longer works for the consumer. When I filed a BBB complaint against the US Bank as the US Bank is not allowing me to access my account and cash, they closed it within hours and the BBB will not assist.
THE BBB SUCKS.

The thing that I really think that this site is useful for is the ability to browse through all the past complaints to find out what the business really struggles with. The "quick-glance" information that they offer about the intangibles of a business are invaluable and are not offered by any other website on the internet. Plus, when consumers file a complaint on the BBB, there are real company representatives that reach out to you to work out your problem!

I have to dock a star however because I think it's too easy for businesses to obtain an A+ rating. As a critic, I think it's important for consumers to have a detailed rating system. For instance, on SiteJabber, 3 stars doesn't mean "BAD"; it means "AVERAGE". The BBB has made it that if you don't have an A+, there is something wrong with your business. I simply don't think that should be the case.

For Example, WAL-MART has an "A+" rating. There service alone should make this not the case.

I reported a seller on Ioffer.com whom sold me a pirated video, they said they would ''investigate'' the allegations against the seller whom went by the screen name ''rareblood''. They apparently completed their ''investigation''with the online business, with a Ioffer.com representative offering to refund for the item purchased, but, I requested in lue of a refund that the BBB have Ioffer.com correct their business practices, that by the way appear on this site, video piracy, credit card fraud and dealing in counterfeit merchandise. I was told nothing could be done to rectify the criminal practices of this site, and this held true as, not much was done, since,''rareblood'' is still selling the same pirated videos that was sold to me.And I was just informed that the BBB does act as a legal rep. In such cases as mine, however, in cases where a company accredited through the Better Business Bureau is racking up such negative responses from so many consumers might reflect poorly on the BBB, itself. And maybe they should take some sort of action to force Ioffer.com to correct their business practices or face disciplinary junctures.

This review of the Better Business Bureau (of particular interest to SiteJabber followers) concerns the BBB's service in reviewing businesses for consumers. You can get to that service directly at www.bbb.org/us/Find-Business-Reviews.

As a result of outside pressure, the BBB claims it no longer considers BBB fee-paid "accreditation" in its ratings. However, the review pages for each non-accredited business will include three (3) prominent mentions of that status, which you should ignore.

Considerations that the BBB says it does apply include BBB complaint history, business duration, government actions, and questionable advertising. BBB will also downgrade if a company fails to provide to the BBB complete information, if the BBB has revoked accreditation, or if the nature of the business is suspect.

The BBB also has a link for consumer reviews (not to be confused with consumer complaints), which do not seem to figure into its ratings.

BBB ratings are a helpful resource in evaluating a company, but should not be relied on exclusively. ConsumerSearch (see my separate SiteJabber review) reflects a huge number of consumer reviews from across the Web, and would be a good supplement to BBB ratings.

In may 2016 I took my car to Meineke, 2625A NE vivion rd., kcmo ******* for an oil change. They told me my rotors were bad so I had them change the rotors, approx. 6 months after that they closed their business. I noticed my car jerking about 6 months ago when I stepped on the break. I took my car to another mechanic, he informed me the rotors were bad and I showed him my ticket they were changed about 2 1/2 years ago. I told him to go ahead and put new rotors on but I wanted the old one. When he brought them out, he told me they looked like the original rotors. I have called Meineke headquarters about 6 or 7 times with only 1 call back and was not at home. I have not received any call backs except the one.
I looked up Meineke in Liberty, mo and the reviews were horrible, people called the scam artist, they got ripped off and they also are closed. I realize this was a franchise, but they carried the Meineke name and they should stand behind the work and they don't. I will continue to call them, but be cautious about taking your car to Meineke, especially since they do not stand behind their work. I am a member of angies list and also wrote a bad review, I don't want anyone getting ripped off like myself and so many other people.

I used to trust the BBB, and swore by them. That was back in the 80s/90s. Fast forward to today. If you want to know how good a business is, ask friends and family, check out yelp and google reviews, but DO NOT use the BBB as your resource. They refuse or just plain won't post reviews or complaints if it doesn't fit their agenda.

In this last case, and there have been others but this one takes the cake, the business had an A+ rating on the BBB. There were no complaints filed or reviews posted, at least so it seemed. I submitted my complaint and after back-and-forth between me and the business (the business even claiming I was harassing them because of using the BBB), the BBB quickly deemed my complaint as "invalid". How can a complaint be invalid if it really happened? I emailed them and asked for clarification, and was told that they wouldn't allow a complaint against a company that I had previously took to small claims (case was already over), but that I could post a review. I then submitted a review, the business again responded that by me doing this I was harassing them, so the BBB made the decision to reject my review. No reason given other than it seemed filing a negative complaint or review is bad for their business and they don't want any part of that. They don't want to taint someone's A+ standing even though it's undeserved.

I filed a complaint with the main BBB and to date, haven't heard a word.

To make a long story short, NEVER ever use the BBB as your resource when choosing a business. The BBB brushes negative feedback and reviews under the rug.

The Better Business Bureau's "dispute resolution service" is a joke. I had a roofer do my roof and I had a leak. I asked the roofer to come back and he said he wasn't liable for the leak. It costed me 3k to do the repairs through another contractor. I went back to the roofer and asked him to pay me the 3k and he told me to go to hell. I went to the Better Business Bureau and asked them for help. They told me I had to go through their "dispute resolution service". So i followed suit and emailed them my complaint. They just forwarded to the contractor and they asked if he wished to respond back. They did. So the BBB just handed it back to me and said, "the business made a good faith attempt to settle this matter, do you accept?" They were basically telling me that I had to take what the contractor was giving me. Complete BS stories and lies. Overall, the BBB did NOTHING. I thought they were a government agency but they're not. They're just a non-profit org. That sits and collects cash from business and the pretends to help people. What a joke. Don't trust the BBB, they're pathetic.

Worthless Waste of Time
December 15, 2015

I don't know how the BBB got the reputation of helping consumers; if you ever actually try to use their service you will find that the BBB is only there to shore up the reputations of shady businesses and to give them plausible deniability in dealing with consumer complaints. My opinion of the BBB is so low -- I assume that, if a business is a member, they must be trying to hide something or trying to find a way to make it look like they address consumer complaints, when they don't -- that if presented with a choice between a BBB registered business and a non-BBB registered business, I would probably choose the latter.

I had an experience much like another reviewer here on this site, where the BBB took the complaint, and then, without any notification, said that the complaint had been settled and everything was fine. If the BBB wants any credibility, they need to change their business practices, which are no better than those of their client businesses. In other words, the BBB needs a BBB where it can list itself for consumer complaints. This organization ought to be shut down.

A complete Joke.
August 21, 2020

They don't care about consumers, they get their money from the people who rip you off, like Frontier Communications a company that will soon be out of business because it is so poorly run at the top, (Corporate Level).

Despite what their sales people might tell you, (Bait & Switch) Frontier Communications does not do TV any more. Their cable TV is from AT&T. So to get you to switch, Frontier Communications slowly takes the TV channels that you have been watching for four years and turns them into "subscription only" channels. To top it off they have removed approximately 25 channels from me and told the stupid people at BBB that they were preview channels. When I objected to what Frontier Communications replied, the BBB did not allow me to respond, even though I tried numerous times, even going directly to the person at the BBB who was supposed to be handling my complaint. The BBB closed my complaint, because I did not respond. I have three emails where I have responded. The BBB just doesn't want to upset Frontier Communications because they might lose the money that they receive from Frontier Communications.

Don't waste you time complaining to the BBB, just note that they are a lot worse than some of the companies who have been taking advantage and ripping off us consumers.
