I have been attempting to post a detailed, thoughtful, negative review of Odelugo & Johnson and the lawyer from that firm we hired, Rabihah Owens. After submitted a review detailing their unethical and, often times, illegal conduct (overcharging, lying repeatedly, abjectly refusing to do the work she was hired to do after charging thousands for 'prep'), avvo denied the review. I asked for clarification as to what in the review violated site terms, and this was ignored by avvo staff. I attempted 3 more times to get a response from avvo, but this isn't a real review site. This is a lawyer billboard and a website run by real $#*!s.
I forgot to mention that when I tried to put a bad review of them on their website, they rejected it. So, they're scamming people and will only put good reviews on their website to draw people in. BEWARE!
These guys were absolutely terrible! No understanding of the problem, condescending, rude, and they shouldn't have a law license... if they do. They acted like they knew nothing about social media, internet laws, information technology, and were patronizing at best. If you are a POC, don't attempt to consult with these people at all!
It is obvious that Avvo only posts positive reviews. They asked me to rewrite the review for it to be considered. There is not much that I could change as i just presented the facts. I do not know if the attorneys answering the questions pay to be on Avvo, but I would guess that the do, based on the Avvo response to my review. I was shocked that they would not post my review. I was very factual and did not attack the attorney's character, as this attorney did to me on the Avvo forum. The attorney never addressed my question, but immediately jumped to conclusions and insulted me. After providing further info, she gave me unsolicited advise that was snippy and impossible in my case. She still never addressed my question. I left Avvo with the feeling of disgust.
AVVO weeds out negative reviews of lawyers, so viewers/readers do not get an accurate account of who they are looking at -- which seems very shady. Because of this, AVVO is a horrible resource for anyone looking for a lawyer. And in todays word where lawyers are conniving and slimy, people need better resources than AVVO.

This answer we received from State NY government attorney Glenn Johnston on Avvo, Now we really feel harmed and discriminated. What should we do?
Mr. Johnston says: "... Finally, and you should really take note, here... there is no CIVIL RIGHT to booze. None. And it doesn't violate the ADA to restrict booze. Although there may be a CIVIL RIGHT to booze in the European nation you hail from, there is none here."
I submitted a negative review on an attorney who was unethical and dishonest. The attorney disputed the review and Avvo emailed me a request to verify my review and it would be reposted. I verified it and it was reposted, then taken down again. The customer service manager claimed my review violated community guidelines and I review the wrong lawyer. I had proof to the contrary. On 06/03/19, I forwarded my concerns to their legal department but never heard from them. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Apparently, Avvo shows favoritism toward lawyers, even if they're in the wrong. Therefore, a lawyer's Avvo rating is a false representation and is misleading to the public.
People can post lies about attorneys and even if you provide proof to AVVO that the person was not telling the truth, AVVO does nothing. In one review, a court order showed client was not telling the truth and AVVO would not remove the review. This site was set up to extort $ from attorneys from Avvo to get them to pay monthly fees to revise the reviews...
This site is terrible and it should be shut down.
I reviewed an attorney, Craig Hughes out of Salt Lake. It was a legitimate review because I didn't want to see anyone else get burned. There were 2 1 star reviews on Craig Hughes. When Hughes threatened to sue me and I didn't budge (because I had proof), AVVO took down my review and placed an obvious review written by Craig Hughes himself and he rated himself with 5 stars.
AVVO is useless!
I recently posted a negative review on a lawyer and AVVO didn't approve it which is weird because I'm very sure it met the guidelines. What's weird is the only reviews for this lawyer are all positive? Reading all the other reviews on this site and my recent experience with AVVO leaves me to believe they only approve positive reviews which defeats the purpose of posting reviews.
I'm a attorney and I was recently solicited by an Avvo sales rep to purchase advertising on Avvo. I told the rep that I wasn't interested. Shortly afterwards and with no changes to my profile, my Avvo rating dropped by nearly a point. I now suspect that Avvo ratings are based on factors other than an attorney's credentials and I wouldn't trust them.
I posted 3 reviews. The last review I thought wasn't too daming but it was still rejected. Avvo is a joke. I rather use YELP even though I heard taht site too has a pay for reputation system. But I've never experienced that on Yelp.
I did a neg review on an atty and after me in 8 months he had more neg reviews last night looked this seattle atty up and he had all 4 and 5 stars. Pay off from atty to avvo? 4200 down the toilet and he never showed up with paperwork. Always pay for the tape to watch a court proceeding and always show up to a hearing.
I hired attorneys crews and pesquera and also payas and payas in central fl, i found them at this avvo site with good reviews, what a joke, the first law firm neglected my case for almost two years and the second one payas, their assistant always avoid my contact directly with the attorney, i had to fire both firms, what a waste! I try to post my negative reviews at avvo to help other people and they always reject them, thos avvo site is a scam just like those two firms, a total fraud.
I hired attorney Joshua Tomsheck based off of Avvo review and I was absolutely unhappy with him. I tried numerous times to leave a negative review and AVVo would not allow me to do so. That's so not ok.
Yes even though I have done filed out for an attorney to contact me here in Noblesville Indiana I need a lawyer and the person running there Facebook's needs too stop being a smartass. They said they can not hook me up with an attorney it's like ok I can take my money and business elsewhere the moron feeling disappointed with avvo.
In my opinion AVVO reviews are not trustworthy. I attempted to post truthful reviews regarding a Lawyer and a Law Firm. The attorneys had a 10 AVVO rating and they were a train wreck. AVVO refused to post my reviews and in fact took off a review I had posted four years ago regarding a wonderful attorney. I have requested a call from a manager. T he train wreck attorney was hired by me based on the high AVVO rating.
Bob from tel # *******691 called my law firm asking to speak w/ specific attorney. Attorney does not want to take call, I ask politely- please take us off your call list. BOB tells me- he cannot, he has a specific procedure he needs to follow, he needs the email of attorney, tell him no, cannot give that to him and to please take us off call list. He hangs up. NICE COMPANY AVVO
I asked for help to get these two attorney's, Robert Marshall and Jay Finnecy, to stop harassing me. I was looking for advice on a misdemeanor mistake that I had made a year ago, and these two bantered back and forth bad-mouthing me for two days. I asked support for help, and they apologized on their behalf. They also said that they would handle it "internally," which basically just meant they just deleted all of their unnecessary, antagonistic, and rude comments. Instead of helping me, they just covered up the situation. It was my first experience with Avvo, and I don't think I'll ever be using it again.
I tried to ask a question on the Avvo Free Legal Advice site, but instead of getting an answer, I was instead informed that an answer would be coming to my Email...
I did get a couple of Emails from Avvo, but none of them were an answer to my specific question, and instead were links to articles that were similar, but no the same, along with contact numbers for local attorneys.
An answer to my question was never provided, and I did not seek to retain an attorney, just to ask a question, as is advertised by the website.
DOD NOT BE FOOLED by this site, there is no free advice provided at all, just links to other, similar cases. Don't go to Avvo.com, unless you are trying to hire a lawyer, because the 'free question' is just a hoax to trick you!
Answer: AVVO is managed by attorneys for attorneys. It is a recipe for deception, self-interest and greed.
Answer: I believe it's a scam. There is no correlation between how good an attny is and their avvo rating. Based upon my personal knowledge of several attorneys that i have become very familiar with since unwittingly believing avvo information i would warn people not to trust this site for an impartial assessment of attorneys.
Answer: What is being asserted about rejection of negative reviews is absolutely consistent with my experience. Don't waste your time.
Answer: You actually can't place bad review or rating for attorney anywhere, including Martindale Hubbell or similar websites. Even if bad review is approved and posted, it will be removed by attorney request in a few days.
Answer: Because AVVO is a scam service that inflates attorney ratings, but systematically blocks negative reviews. Avoid at all costs.
Answer: It's BAD! Don't trust AVVO! A lot of attys put 5 STAR reviews about themselves and will have the 1 star reviews removed. BEWARE of your atty if s/ he has a 6.5 or has a lot of 5 STAR reviews and still not a high score
Answer: I am an attorney and had contact with this company years ago when it posted my "profile" without my consent, apparently scraping it from some legitimate source like the state bar website. I was assigned a low rating (6.5/10) based on no reviews whatsoever and encouraged to join and get recommendations from other attorneys on the site to raise my rating. I'm a 20+-year practitioner with no complaints from clients or the bar. Quite simply, it's a scam along the lines of "America's Who's Who" where the people listed in the database are the source of income for the enterprise. If attorneys don't "join" and pay they're added to the database without their consent and assigned a random low rating pulled out of nowhere. I don't see any basis to rely on "Avvo" for attorney recommendations. Try Martindale-Hubbell or recommendations from the local bar association real-life attorneys.
Avvo has a rating of 1.2 stars from 421 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Avvo most frequently mention law firm, state bar and community guidelines. Avvo ranks 74th among Legal Documents sites.
