This definitely started with the DNA kit which I paid $100 for and never used due to not being able to set up the account it told me I had to setup to send in my kit.
In all the flurry of trying to get my DNA account set up, I started a subscription. Couldn't find the cancel button, which according to the site says if you don't have a cancel button... then you don't have an account.
Fast forward to this past week, my bank issued me a new card and emailed me a list of companies I was on auto pay with so I could update accounts.
Ancestry.com was there, today I have called now 4x in an attempt to get a refund. Each time being hung up on. Once even by a manager named Debbie.
Calling for time #5 now. At this point it's the principle more than anything. I also find my time to be valuable so I've earned the $149 as I'm on hold for now 8 minutes for call #5
I entered my credit card info to order a kit before I realized I could order with free shipping on Amazon. Without me giving permission, they kept my credit card info. You cannot delete it. So, I did online chat. They said I can't delete it to protect my account (?) so I have to call. I called and they said they can't do it, I have to email. I emailed, they replied from another address saying "let us know if you still need assistance" when I replied, they told me I have to email the original address I had just emailed.
The customer service rep told me even if you delete your account entirely, they don't remove your info.
There seems to be nothing I can do except get a new credit card.
I was just on the phone a total of 3 hours, disconnected twice. Asked for a supervisor twice to no avail. I want to remove all my personal information from their website. One Cust. Service person emailed me instructions how to do so which were incorrect. Not one person offered to do it for me. I asked one Rep. To walk me thru the instructions while I was on their website. Even the Rep. Couldn't navigate the website or also gave me wrong instructions. Terrible website. I would like to see this company shut down.
How can I get the Old Ancestry back? If I can't, how can I get a refund on my subscription which was only renewed three weeks ago? I just can't stand this awful new format and after nearly 10 years of building my tree I am absolutely disgusted with Ancestry high-jacking it and ruining it, making it unusable for me.
The chatbot was better help than the customer support that was rude to me when I requested a refund for my DNAkit. They are stealing people's money, providing 0 results (I've had 3 kits rejected since May) and being unprofessional to their customers.
This site offers a free trial. I thought great try before I buy. I signed up under my Apple ID. Unbeknownst to me when they are getting info that I felt necessary to use their site. One being my personal email, they were setting up another account through my personal email. So I had two trials going. I did not feel I was getting adequate info from their site and proceeded to cancel through my subscriptions on my Apple ID. And in 7 days got hit with a full charge for not canceling trial. I called ancestry and in a sing song voice the operator told me not our problem. So I chocked it up to a lesson learned. Created a password for account under personal email so I could go into that account and cancel it. Then guess what I got hit with a $25 cancelation fee. So unless you can afford all this. My recommendation is do NOT sign up for anything. Because that FREE TRIAL will end up costing $57.99. So there goes a big chunk of my grocery bill for the week. Thank you Ancestry.com.
I started my account in 2011, I cancelled in 1/13/12 and restarted on 12/6/16 and cancelled my account on 4/19/17. Then they say I started up again in 2018, but I haven't been working the account and didn't know that my account has been set back up. Wow, one way to make money!
Been a member for a long time and enjoy it when I find new things about my roots. Since I
Resubscribed this time I am having a hard time getting it to work properly. I try to look things up and it wants to redirect me to I do not know what! Then a screen comes up telling me how to start a tree! I do not need that but it takes many tries before it will let me search.
My internet is not very fast so I usually get frustrated and shut it down.
Does anyone else have this problem

How come when I sign in as a member of Ancestry.com, by the time I write down the name of the person I am querying, my Ancestry.com page is replaced by My Heritage.com page. I did not want My Heritage, I wanted Ancestry!
Have used Ancestry 20 years, and in theory this thing had become the best thing since sliced bread. However, in the past 6 months this thing has become unusable with bugs, gltiches, and lost data.
They better fix this thing fast before they lose a mass amount of subscribers.
I met a Ancestry.com staff member at RootTech that is involved with an interesting project. I want to connect with her. There seems to be no way to find that person. I tried chatting with customer service reps but they respond with canned responses that have nothing to do with my original query. It is a nightmare. I love using the website for research but please, your customer servces is absolutely abysmal. IT SUCKS.
I started with parents and I found wrong information. When I looked myself up. They have wrong High School, Grad year, along with several other wrong information. There doesn't seem to be anyway to correct the information. I have tried for several years with no luck. Apparently they like to keep wrong information up on their site. The more I have looked backed at my family tree. The more mistakes I found. Anything you find about your past on this site. I would take with little trust and accuracy. If you don't know about your history look to other sites to verify as well as any relatives you can talk to that have know what they are talking about.
I have been on hold several times throughout days and long waits. I had an acct and they cancelled the original subscription. They did not pay attention that I only cancelled the upgrade of 214 something... This is so frustrating. I cannot use the site that I have paid for originally.
Ancestry is just a complete unprofessional organization. I was charged on credit card when I had already canceled the membership. When I called to dispute the person on the line was very disrespectful and not helpful at all. -1/10 don't do anything with company. The service they provide is not worth it. It's not informational at all. DO NOT get the membership. Just a complete mess
I signed up for 6 months and found a lot of my family. I didn't get a notice stating my 6 months were up. I went on a week after the 6 months were up and paid again. And found out everything I had found was gone and I am not starting over again so I just cancelled it.
I initially thought this would be a very good site to begin investigating my family tree when I used the free access, but decided I wouldn't really pay to join until I retired and could spend more time. It still may be very good. I have second thoughts, though, after reading in a review for Archives.com that Ancestry.com is related to it. Archives.com sent me a message that I was subscribed to it and that $39.95 would be automatically be deducted from my credit card account unless I cancelled. I have never used Archives.com, which has a bad ethical and service reputation. I suspect Ancestry.com may have enabled Archives.com to go on a phishing expedition to me. I'll be checking my account.
Ok... so the worst thing about it is it could give away ur adress city state and phone number to a complete stranger if u enter this information someone could know all the personal stuff about u. Do not ever put any personal info on public websites, and this is just about the worst ever.
I bought the kit and sent it in and results came back completely different than what I had always been told. So after thinking about it I finally realized that I had sent in my results using my stepdad‘s last name which I have used since I was little. The results came back as a result of that last name which matched their results. Had I used my biological last name the results would've been totally different so therefore they don't go by DNA they do a name trace.
To shove the complaints of 2015 at the bottom of all these reviews while displaying old ones on the top is misleading the public. I used to LOVE ancestry.com in 2005. Note all the complaints in these reviews of 2015 are at the bottom of the pile!
The New Ancestry is horrible... Not user friendly... A cluttered mess. Hard to find things... Color is hard on the eyes. Most things aren't working... The classic site was simple. Clean... color was easy on the eyes... easy to find things... I would not recommend this to anyone right now it's a mess... I.ve been a member for 14 years with no complaints. This is unacceptable for the price I pay... I'm thinking of not renewing my membership...
Answer: I agree... so many current complaints yet they seem to be more concerned with signing up new, younger members who are more deeply engaged in technology. It is business to these folks and they have to get younger people joining to make more money long term. Baby boomers though are their natural market and as more boomers retire and have more time and discretionary income they will be the ones who will be likely to join over the next few years.
Answer: Hi Joan, I see Karen above has answered your question regarding the old site. Full that box in Joan, tell them why you are leaving, give it to them straight. Write what you have put above, and more if so inclined. I have told them exactly what I think of their new so called experience! I think they have got a nerve inflicting this on us without even asking. They have made so many errors on the profiles, I know I shall have to check through every person on my tree, the mistakes they have put on are unbelievable, maps have been added that have nothing to do with the person. But the whole new set up is not enjoyable to use at all, the background colour is very hard on the eyes. I hate this new site with a passion! They should give us the choice of the format. From feedback I have seen, most of their long term customers much prefer the old site, Ancestry don't seem to realise what a great unique format they had, it was really classy, I loved working on it for hours and hours. They should listen to their customers, because they are going to be leaving their site in droves when the old ancestry is not available anymore. I shall use the old site as long as possible, then look for somewhere else to do my researching
Answer: Go to the right side of the page up at top where you sign in, and in the pull down menu there will be a place to go back to the old, classic ancestry, you know however, soon they are pulling the plug
