Question:

How do i get back on the old site. whatever idiots came up with your new mess should be fired.

Answer:

Why would you want to? Obviously they are thieves i. E. taking people's money and not giving anything in return, as they did with me. Should anyone from Ancestry be reading this, thinking of a libel action, truth is an absolute defense, and I will continue posting my experience ad infinitum until this company ceases with their fraudulent endeavors, and gives me what I paid for.

Question:

Why are these reviews not shown in "date order" with the most recent ones at the beginning. what people thought of ancestry.com in 2005 is not as important as what they think of it now. i used to love ancestry.com in 2005!

Answer:

I agree... so many current complaints yet they seem to be more concerned with signing up new, younger members who are more deeply engaged in technology. It is business to these folks and they have to get younger people joining to make more money long term. Baby boomers though are their natural market and as more boomers retire and have more time and discretionary income they will be the ones who will be likely to join over the next few years.

Question:

How in the heck do i get to the old version? this new format is horrid... difficult to navigate... especially for us older people who didn't grow up with computers. i see all sorts of info that i don't want displayed or that is generally useless. this life story feature is just junk. as it stands, this site is almost useless for me. can you do something to help?

Answer:

Go to the right side of the page up at top where you sign in, and in the pull down menu there will be a place to go back to the old, classic ancestry, you know however, soon they are pulling the plug

Question:

I find the new format cluttered and not user-friendly. i want to go back to the old format. how do i do that?

Answer:

I believe you can remove your account number (Visa or MC) from your profile and advise your bank to not process this subscription renewal as you have attempted to cancel to no avail. Hope it works as I will be doing it soon as well.

Question:

Hi, how do i stop updates going out to people who have been invited to view my tree, some are finding it annoying getting constant updates from my tree thanks john

Answer:

It's really a shame that people who don't know how to do things are so quick to reply to others. To stop updates each person who RECEIVES the updates needs to click on the down arrow next to their name in the upper right hand corner, which will give a drop-down menu. From there go to My Alerts, and then change delivery options. You know, even if you don't know how to do it, it only takes a second to google the question and find the correct answer.

Question:

It has become blindingly obvious the ancestry.com no longer listens to customer issues raised via its own sites. so many people are complaining about the round window on the profile page, they hate it. ancestry’s answer to these concerns is an update advising how to crop your photos to fit a round window nobody seems to like. the only people who seem to be thinking the new ancestry is best thing since sliced bread appear to be employed by ancestry themselves. jp

Answer:

I'm with you JP!

Question:

I've been trying for the longest while now to connect my husband's family tree to mine... you know, since we're married and i'd like them to be linked. this seems to be impossible...i can't figure it out and ancestry help is less than helpful. they have me signing up for a bunch of other family tree sites and i still can't get our trees linked! does anyone know a simple way for me to do this?

Answer:

Sarah, I am sorry that you are having such a difficult time with Ancestry.com. If you are serious about your family tree the best place to go is Wikitree.com They require that you cite your sources. When you start entering your family, you have to enter where you got the information. Birth certificate, death certificate, census records, etc. It is a great way to find your family tree. It is free. Other members help you with your search. You do have to be serious about your search otherwise you won't get very far. Go to Wikitree.com and look into it first Explore the website and see if it is for you. The best part is that other people who have experience with geneaology research are willing to help. And that it is free is just a nice perk considering that Ancestry and the My Heritage charge astronomical prices. Good luck Sarah.

Question:

Can some of the records about families be inaccurate? meaning people latching onto other families, or trying to hide non-white ancestry by putting "white"?

Answer:

Yes - anyone can enter any data into the site. Therefore, while what you enter about your family might be accurate, a random person not even related to you could completely corrupt your entire family tree.
