Bull
February 15, 2018

This is a Java-based NIGHTMARE! Every time I log onto this I feel terrible. This entire program is just freaking condescending, and incorrect answers will not be assisted. Students or your children will hate you for putting this weight upon them.

Not for learning
February 15, 2018

I feel every time my teacher assigns Aleks, I slowly feel my brain cells rotting and murdering themselves. This site needs to be only for homeschooled students because it's a sloppy program for lazy teachers. I sit on this program wondering why any school thinks it's amazing. Colleges and schools need to get this god awful program away from Math. Its entire purpose is to make kids feel great about their learning accomplishments, but when they take your progress away over some silly mistake, I want to find something to throw out the window.

Absolutely Awful
February 14, 2018

By far the worst online homework system I have ever used in my life. Frustrating, picky with answers, time consuming, and encourages cheating and memorizing answers over learning. Not worth a single second or cent i have spent on it. Destroyed any enjoyment I previously had of chemistry.

Ewwwwww
February 13, 2018

So annoyed that so many professors adopt this program. Just because it is on a computer does not mean it is increasing our knowledge old people. It is time-consuming! I have 19 credits and this program is nuts. So buggy! I can't express how much I honestly hate this program. Every time I log on I want to throw my computer across the room. Yes, I am bitter and I decide to take a break from this crud program to vent! Why should I have a knowledge check after putting in so many hours, just to have to go back and redo the topic? The people who developed this program did not have the user in mind. I honestly hate you. Keep your inventions to yourself. Peace out!

ALEKS is not completely useless. The Knowledge checks assigned by the teachers themselves can help benchmark what their students are messing up on, and I can see how this and other things can be useful to the teacher. On the contrary, this program has been the biggest headache that I have ever had to cope with on a daily basis for a while. Topics are useless and Irrelevant to your actual subject. Penalties for a incorrect answer are harsh, discouraging, and disengaging. Knowledge checks can be overly strenuous and time consuming, causing you to rush and fail. Foolishly, ALEKS can LOCK you out of your actual homework assignments, and is quite fond of being a general nuisance, causing student's grades to drop considerably and can be extraordinarily hard to recover from. I, myself have been victim to this program, but couldn't do anything about it... and it is the worst feeling. Overall, If you can avoid using this program, do yourself the favor and do not put yourself through this perdition. If it weren't for this program, I should have been better off, but that's the way life goes, unfortunately. Those who are stuck with this program currently, I sincerely sympathize with you. It may seem like a large hump in the way of your success, but I swear, you'll get over it in one way or another. Good luck to those currently using this program.

I am a full-time student with 2 part-time jobs and because I apparently "need more practice" on topics I have "previously mastered" after taking a Knowlege Check, what would've been a 17 Topic module was bumped up to 40 topics IN A SINGLE $#*!ING MODULE putting me behind in every other class b/c I now have to spend 4-6 hours on this painstaking website just to get the assignment done. This gave me a mental breakdown, stay far away from this unruly piece of $#*!.

This website does help you learn but some explanations and some features are just confusing, also the teachers give it in such huge doses like 25-30 topics a week. I am in only the 7th grade and our teacher just gives us this. Also the knowledge checks are just so worthless. Sometimes the only way to get past a topic is to use a calculator. Some of the topics on here are so mind boggling and annoyingly hard that for some topics even my mom who took two extra years in algebra cant even do some. This seriously needs to revamp the way they work the knowledge checks and explanations.

Frustration central
February 11, 2018

ALEKS is the most pointless $#*!ing thing in the world. This math program is worse than stubing your big toe. I would rather wrestle with a cactus than have to sit through 30 $#*!ING topics a week. I don't learn a single thing with ALEKS. This is a joke and it baffles me that most colleges use this $#*!.

This sh*t su*ks so bad that I cry every time I do this. It's so annoying that I shout and yell every single assignment. This is horror at it's worst. I'm taking this for chemistry and the significant digits are killing me. It seems like they have their own rule for significant digits. Do not take a class that has this crap piece of sh*t even if it may cost you your life.

Its total bull$#*!.
February 6, 2018

I have an F in math because of this. If you get something wrong (its confusing as all hell) the explanation will NOT help you. It doesnt explain at all how the answer is what it is. The answers dont even make sense on how theyre right. Im to do 15 topics a week and Ill spend days on the same topic getting it wrong. So, naturally, I have an F. Ive learned nothing from this, if anything Ive gotten dumber. I dont remember how to do a lot of stuff in math; Im too busy looking up the answers because the $#*! they list makes no sense.

Unrewarded frustration
February 5, 2018

Since the school has started requiring ALEKS as homework, I have watched student test grades plummet. It seems the website is frustrating students and the assignments are forcing students to study the wrong material. It's extremely easy to cheat on it and student take advantage of this constantly. It's overly time consuming as well. Horrible for students, teachers, parents... stay away!

The Aleks program has a difficult and unrealistic curriculum that gets to no goal. When students are finished with a Mass amount of topics, they are rewarded with nothing greater that a test to check this knowledge. If they do not get EVERYTHING right they get even more topics to "master" a skill. While it is not hard to use a personal calculator in Aleks, if you get one question wrong if pushes you very far back. Also teachers, do you expect your students to pace themselves everyday on top of other homework and events? If you do... your wrong.

I hate this program. In my class we have to do 60 topics a month and 400 minutes it doesn't sound like a lot but it is. You learn nothing from the topics. I don't like it takes away points from your progress if you get it wrong. No one should have to do Aleks

Im not sure why people give it such bad reviews! I'm learning calculus 2 and its honestly an easy, simple, step by step program that's helped me master most topics quickly and easily. People complaining about forgetting everything need to take responsibility and start REVIEWING. Don't just do it when it asks you to, take initiative.

Huge waste of time. Punishes you for wrong answers by taking away the points you got for the right answers. One simple error on a complex, multistep problem will blow the whole thing. I hate this program, I am starting to hate chemistry, and I feel like I have no real time to study it or read my text book because there is always some Aleks modules due. Very counterproductive, great way to make students hate you an your class.

JUST NO IT SUCKS
February 2, 2018

My teacher requires us to do 10% a month. 10% a month... that's 50 topics every month and i cant do this anymore. Worst program ever but i have no way of geting out of it. Im currently at 97% and im taking the knowledge check to see if i pass it and its horrible because i dont remeber any of the topics so im prob going to go down and then go up like more than 10% TODAY bc its due today so if the knowledge check ends up taking me to 90% or below, im screwed. Its not fair. We put so much time effort and work into this program and then dumb $#*! knowledge check takes us right back down. Im so done

ALEKS is the worst program I have ever encountered in all my years of schooling. This program was used in my Chemistry courses in college and it was the most useless and painful thing ever. ALEKS sucked up so much of my time, I would waste hours and hours trying to get all the topics done, and at times I wouldn't even bother with trying to finish the topics and would take a zero for the day because I needed to finish work for my other classes. ALEKS teaches students absolutely nothing, if anything it teaches students how to cheat and scheme their way through the program which at times was impossible to do since some modules never had repeating questions. Also, ALEKS is set up to put out three or four knowledge checks as you progress through the program and they almost always end up setting you back in your progress. You could have 99% of your pie done, a knowledge check will come around and put you down to 80% and you have to redo so many topics that you have already suffered through. I would recommend that everybody STAY AWAY FROM ALEKS IT WILL SUCK UP YOUR TIME AND YOUR LIFE, IF A CLASS USES ALEKS THEN AVOID IT IF POSSIBLE. It is a terrible program in general but it's even worse when it's used in college classes because honestly, who in college has time to sit and work on the same topic for 5 hours because the stupid system keeps taking off points for the slightest of mistakes. In summation, ALEKS is the worst and no school should be using this system.
