I rented tonight at $127 per night. By the time the cleaning fees and service charges okay. My bill was $514. They advertise as a full house but when I got there it was a low end hotel. My advice is that you use Google earth to verify the property you were looking to rent.
Airbnb did nothing to help our situation, they only side with the hosts, we paid over $2300 for 11 nights, stayed for 2 as the place was not suitable, it was not 3 bedrooms as described, the balcony room was cold and constant noise from the street, the door didnt lock, the other one described as a den was a converted closet, too small for an adult. The host stated the homeless people were harmless, we were approached a couple of times where we felt unsafe so we left!
I would not recommend Airbnb or this Host.
Great concept poorly executed. Have had some very nice experiences in Italy as well as two not so nice ones. However, recent experience in NYC confirms other posters horrible experiences. I rented a place for a week and day or so before emailed, texted and called to confirm but did not receive a reply. Got to the address and occupant said he did not know anything about my reservation and slammed door. Here I am and call AirBnB and they say look for another listing. Right. In the evening in NYC. Get a call finally from "owner" who said he told AirBnB to cancel the reservation and it was not his fault if the company did not notify me. Of course, AirBnB keeps its fee no matter what. They do not check accuracy of listings, etc etc. They are ripe for an honest competitor to take over this concept. Caveat emptor!
Buyer Beware. Even though their site states that they will refund if the host cancels, this is not true. We had rented a home May 2020 to use for a rehearsal dinner and Sunday wedding brunch. Had to cancel due to COVID. Then booked for Sept 2020 and Sept 2021. Used cash for one, credit (from prior cancellation) for the other. Home owner sold home so Airbnb cancelled on us for the Sept 2021 date. Now they refuse to reimburse the $3000. They will only provide credit. Also, absolutely no additional credit provided for the inconvenience of having to find a new venue on short notice. I do NOT want credit. I want reimbursement. Will not use Airbnb ever again.
Am I to understand that Airbnb takes money from our credit card and keeps it for sometimes months before we actually travel? What do they do with this money? I would understand a deposit and the balance to be paid a few weeks before arrival... but not the whole amount upfront. I didn't realize that Airbnb became a bank hoarding people's money making themselves interest.
I personally find this very disturbing and feel uncomfortable with how this payment system has been put in place.
A host in Coral Gables cancelled my booking less than 2 hrs prior to arrival. I was on the highway when AirBnB calls to "casually' tell me my reservation was canceled but not to worry as they are refunding my money. That money is still pending 48 hrs later and I was left to get a hotel at $200 more per night due to the stress and rush of needing something quick. I was by myself and while AirBnB collects a fee from the host, they left me high and dry unapologetically. Cold, greedy and quite frankly dangerous.
Beware of their long term cancellation policy! When you book a room, it will state flexible as the cancellation policy, then if you actually go to cancel within the defined time, you end up losing all your money! There is a special long term cancellation policy buried god knows where, which was not stated when I went to book! When I called, they told me I was essentially screwed unless the guy I was renting from agreed to a compromise. I basically had to stalk the guy, sitting outside of his house for hours like a damned weirdo to track him down and get a deal worked out, terrible for everyone! (That or lose almost a thousand bucks!)
What can't I say! For 2 months our boss rented us this amazing apartment right on the beach! The landlord Steve and his wife were very accommodating... There were things in the apartment for us to start out with. Soap, cleaning products, etc. the washer and dryer was my only complaint. It was a 2 n 1 and took forever. I used it one time. Didn't work so well! Other than that I loved it. Hopefully my boss will rent it for us again next year!
Advertised place was not as was promised place is dirty dusty nasty smell and mis-represented in pictures not what as it shows. Does not even have cable service provided and not provided amenities towels - airbnb customer service are also liars giving informations on the phone that will not commence so as to get you off the line. Am not gonna trust my vacation with them at all nor should any of you
I am actually giving ZERO stars, not one star. I had an issue with booking, and contacted them. They dint respond for 96 hours! And they don't even have a phone number to contact for urgent grievances! I had to book on an alternate date and make a loss of 1 day rent because of this. They take about 5% commission for every booking. I don't know where it is going! I'm feeling cheated. Airbnb, you are hopeless, and people will pay you back for this!
First, as a Corp. Pilot; travel extensively both domestically/International. Attempted to use this Website for Lodging with Terrible Results. Houses/Suites/Rooms taken. Non Responsive Hosts. Software continuously was down for updates. Fees were Excessive; including Rent\House Rules! Hotel is Cheaper\More Convenient!
I've had a question regarding the guests (overheard them talking about something illegal). And I asked Airbnb if I should report it. They said yes, but only if I am 100% positive, so I told them to leave the case open until the the guests left the property and that I will update them later. Meanwhile they suspended my account "until the case was closed". After my guests left, I updated Airbnb support team that everything was fine because there was no evidence of anything illegal inside the house so I do not wish to make any complains about my guests and case could be closed. Airbnb didn't get back to me. My calendar is still blocked so none can book it. Very terrible service and responsiveness. It's been days since my account was limited. Don't even bother to ask for help from their team.
My son and his friends lost 1,500 euros to a fraudster using Airbnb's site. Despite several attempts to obtain information from Airbnb as to the steps they are taking and what they know about this person, all we can extract is automated responses that repeat terms and conditions on their website. As a result, we can take few steps to help ourselves to track down the criminal and take action against him or her. If I was a scammer, I know which website I would use to perpetrate my crime.
Read the fine print. Depending on the state you live, the guest may become a tenant if s/he reserves for 30+ days. If you have a problem, Airbnb customer service is almost nonexistent. When tenant refused to leave, I called the "urgent" number, 2 times and waited over 40 minutes with no response.
Advise do not rent to locals, at least you have a decent chance of the person leaving if they are from out of town. My local yokel is the tenant from hell and Airbnb is NO HELP!
We were excited to try out AirBnb for a rare getaway, and we reserved a place that had good reviews months in advance. Less than two weeks prior to the trip, our host requested a "change", which turned out to be more money, and threatened to cancel if we didn't agree to the higher price. Airbnb help desk agreed that this was against their policy, but when the host did indeed cancel, there really isn't anything they can do but offer another place (more expensive and needless to say I was leery of trying another "host"), or give a full refund. This was my first and last experience with them. There isn't even a way for me to leave a review for that host. We got a full refund and booked a hotel - well worth the peace of mind.
I booked two places oversees. Upon arrival, the place filthy, smells musty and moldy. Spent the night as it was late. Left in the morning, found another airbnb. Contacted airbnb with detailed explanation, over 50 images and video of the place. I turned around plenty of time. The place was u healthy and unsafe. My family and I started coughing the night we were there. First I was told, I'd get a full refund. Then they changed their stand. Recorded the conversation and kept all the messages for my attorney for a law suit.
To begin with, Airbnb's fees are outrageous! However, that being said, my family and I were pleased to find a host who would accommodate us with our two cats and two dogs for an extended stay. There were no major issues during our stay. The review from the host stated that the place was left clean. For whatever reason, the $500 refund was not REFUNDED on the airbnb side. According to airbnb, refunds have to be requested within 60 days after check-out date. We were in the process of moving and buying a home that we did not notice this at the time. After contacting the host, she instructed me to request the money and she would approve it. The representative at airbnb was unprofessional.
Relatively easy to use and navigate. Not perfect but I gave it 5 stars because I found it by chance looking for a discount lodging site. Within an hour, I was able to get a bid on a place to stay that was 1/2 the price of a local motel 6 and looked twice as nice. Since then, I've used it 4 times, all with positive experiences even when I had to cancel. Highly recommended so long as you choose the right location & communicate with landlord in advance. Will definitely use again if on tight budget or looking for a personal touch like a B & B without need for a breakfast.
After staying at a property I wrote an honest review, airbnb deleted the review because they said the problems where out of there control. It was problems with the property and i was trying to warn others not be rude to airbnb. If some one had done this for me i would have picked a different property.
I recently started to rent our cottage from Airbnb. We have had about 4 guests so far and all has been going very well until this last guest. That guest booked a stay for 9 days. On the day of arrival it was someone other than the guest who has booked with Airbnb who checked in. When I asked about him the woman who was checking said he would arrive later. Then a couple of hours later she texted me that she was going to have 3 guests over. I told her the room was for 2 people only but she went ahead anyway. Her guests parked in front of our cars so we could not leave our parking.
Answer: AirBnB is the worst. You might be able to go to the resolution centre, but previous posts are correct. Watch your money with them. Once they make an error it's hard to get it back. You may have to go through the credit card you charged it to and even then the dispute process might take awhile. Hopefully, you have other money to use in the mean time or the date of your trip is at least weeks out? They are asking you to "verify your ID" so they can gain access to your linked in, Facebook and google contacts. They say it's a security measure to protect you and everyone else but it's not. They are pirating your info. They take your contacts and use it as a marketing tool for themselves or sell the contacts to other distributors. It's very common with sites like this now. If you want to continue using AirBnB you have no choice unfortunately.
Answer: Being a host, I can say that when things are going good, all is great, but if something goes wrong, as a host, you will not get the support from Airbnb that is promised. They do not stand behind their hosts, I find they like to a facade that all is great in the land of Airbnb. I have cancelled my listing and will not deal with them anymore in the future.
Answer: As a host & licensed realtor with multiple properties in both Los Angeles & Las Vegas which I book directly and also have listed with multiple vacation rental agencies, SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY & AGGRAVATION by booking either DIRECTLY with the host or through other REPUTABLE Agencies, such as Roomorama.
Answer: I haven't been a host, but would certainly recommend that you read ALL the reviews here before getting involved with Airbnb. I can't think of ANY business of ANY type I would patronize that got a 1.5 star rating after 382 reviews.
Answer: They offered $25 discount of next booking I just chose to go else where
Answer: You don't. The only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have a problem Airbnb will be unreachable. They hide from dissatisfied customers and hosts alike. You are taking big chances when you deal with them. The benefits just aren't worth the risks.
Answer: No, you would be lucky and have to fight to get a refund if you cancel 1 day after you make the reservation!
Answer: Hello, First, the credit card co. Needs to be notified and will refund the amount spent. In turn, the cc co. Will backcharge. Airbnb is notorious for these types transactions and should be shutdown. Your son has learned a business lesson... research a business prior to do business!
Answer: This is the root of my problem with AIRBNB. They do not check to see if a host can legitimately rent the place they are advertising. In my experience, the host cancelled 48 hours before, claimed she was going to be evicted if she rented to me. I was only 3000 miles from home. AIRBNB offered me a 10% discount to rebook another place. I did not and will not use them again.
Answer: Susan's answer is very thorough and I agree with her. Even more important when booking places outside your country of origin to ensure you don't get a flea pit. Also, always look at the reviews, they are very important. If there is a really bad review, don't stay there. You need to check the locations online as well. You don't want to be in a bad, dangerous area... this just happened to someone staying in Philadelphia. If you have a problem, the AirBnB website is useless. Google the AirBnB customer service number from your location. Renee
Airbnb has a rating of 1.4 stars from 2,084 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Airbnb most frequently mention customer service, credit card and full refund. Airbnb ranks 442nd among Hotels sites.
