DO not trust the general location pins for properties. Just found one over 20 miles from the pin location. Property owner says Airbnb sets the pin locator, Airbnb says owner sets the actual location. Who knows the truth. Missed the 48 hours cancellation. Fee is $700 or drive hours during the week. Airbnb offered $30 coupon for their HUGE mistake/action to reap cancellation fees. Will contact owner for exact location before ever booking with them again. DO NOT TRUST THEM.
I booked an Airbnb vacation rental home in Mussomeli, Sicily for two nights for my husband and myself. The property is located in the old part of the town. It was described as being within walking distance of shops and restaurants. This was important to us as we were being dropped off by one driver upon arrival and then picked up by another driver on departure day. Our driver would not have found the house had it not been for the postman delivering mail who guided our car to a nearby street. The house itself was on a steep hill surrounded by other row homes and not accessible by car. There were no restaurants or shops nearby. Inside were steep stairs going up and steep stairs going down. We thought we'd break our necks carrying suitcases upstairs and visiting the toilet at night, as BR and bathroom were on different floors. We closed the door and left. Awful place that should never be a vacation rental.
Airbnb customer support "Ambassadors" don't know anything they are truly ignorant Peabrain's. The don't even sound like they know what to do or how to handle any situation. There was a lady who kept reading a script sounding like an idiot and not comprehending anything I told her. The host that rent out rooms are unclean and scammers looking for a paycheck. They don't care if you cancel from a bad experience they just continue to do the same thing other in a cycle to make money in a dishonest way.
Booked accom could only book with payment made. The host refused booking but did not cancel. Refund was $345 short. See text messages. It appears the host was unaware that she needed to cancel for me to receive a full refund despite my message. I have requested a refund from the host. Max $93. Air bnb system owes me $251 and there is no way I can get it back. The booking was live for less than 2 hours.
This type of system ripoff has made me suspicious of the integrity of airbnb. Take care of this.
After checking into a studio in SF for 4 nights, during the 1st night i encountered bed mites continuous itching not able to sleep in the studio. Next morning took a hot shower and called host to explain i was uncomfortable and not staying any longer. Host could have cared less, he has his money. Never got support from airbnb, no refund for unstayed nights. Then I posted a review and it got deleted. No support for guests if any issues exist. Never using site again, beware and stay away from this site!
Did my first on line booking with Airbnb and it will be my last! Not familiar with the system and having looked at several locations, I clicked on the wrong location and it was IMMEDIATELY caught. The host was gracious but Airbnb can't even be contacted to discuss a full refund... Their alleged 3% fee was an actual $25 fee on a $76 reserve... Ridiculous. I can see if I made the mistake and didn't catch it for some time but this has no logic at all.
Accused me of violating their platform without telling me how it is that i did such a thing. Took down my listing without telling me. Now, they think I'm going to upload my ID onto the internet for them to have at, when I was already verified to begin with, having successfully rented with them the previous year. Clearly, the site has been taken over by fraudsters.
I booked a 2-bedroom apartment almost 2 weeks ago for Thanksgiving weekend. The owner had some questions about my granddaughter and my small dog. Every time I replied to her through airbnb's platform, I got undeliverable replies.
The owner just cancelled my reservation because she didn't receive answers to her questions. We will probably have to cancel out trip because I can't find suitable accommodations on any other site and we're running out of time.
Sellers often advertise rates only to find out that they are really higher once the reservation is requested. This is a bait and switch in my book. Unfortunately, AirBNB is no help at all. This is infact acceptable in their book. There's no accountability for hosts or protections for renters. Save yourself the headache and book a hotel. At least they honor advertised rates.
I rented a place in Paris October, 2013 for 4 nights. The problem with AirBnB is their lack of vetting the hosts and probably their guests as well. When I couldn't get in touch with my host the night before my arrival because up until then I had no response about where the key exchange would take place, I made a transatlantic phone call to AirBnB for assistance. They were no help and told me to work it out with the lessor... and that they were merely a "platform" for the hosts and guest. I finally heard from the host at midnight by email the night before I was to arrive. It went downhill from there. Yes, you could get lucky with a good host, but AirBnB gets no credit for that. They are absent after you give your money. Will never use this service again! Beware!
I've had a decent experience with the site. I used it to find housing in Asia and it worked really well. I think it depends which city you're looking for. For example, in Berlin there are almost no listings and people want a lot of money to stay there. So it depends on how desirable the location is and what the level of inventory.
I rented a house and the next morning owner cancelled and said that it had already been booked and airbnb still had it up for rental. They took my money anyway and then tell me it could take 15 days for it to be credited back to my account. The owner of house said her bnb account had been hacked by someone in Hong Kong, so I am now afraid to put any of my information down to rent anything through airbnb.
I had to cancel today due to Covid restrictions now in Scotland. Airbnb allowed host Simon of Edinburgh to not refund our full cost £301. We lost half the fee. Having to pay full fee when booking then not being refunded when the trip becomes impossible. Should be illegal if enough notice of cancellation is given. Will never use Airbnb again.
Our stay got cancelled one week before the trip. We were left in a major jam. Had booked 2 months back and were staying in the Christmas Holidays and they just cancelled. The host didn't care. Airbnb didn't care. Called them multiple times and no one helped us. And by then everything in the city was doubled. They need to be reported. These big companies don't care about customers and get away with this. Very unethical.

Called into the support with regards to an issue with a reservation. The case manager, of whom I manage to get the hold of 12 hours after the initial contact and after 3 calls told me "we have a more important case to deal with at the moment, we will call you back when we can". Disgusting support which whos a remarkable lack of care of their customers.
I have decided not to use airbnb anymore because despite my multiple contacts about deceptive over charges on one of my past stays in a miami airbnb, I was never refunded my money and their customer service persons (apparently in India and somewhere else) just kept dragging and not any resolving my complaints.
I will also be recommending to my relatives and friends not to use airbnb.

We booked an AB&B for $55/nt. When we received our billing they had charged us $66/nt. After spending 45 min. On the phone with customer non-service, we were told that the increase was due to "Smart Pricing"; WTF? Requested a refund and we were refused. They said that the receipt showed the price increase. BTW: the receipt is buried four clicks deep in the Trip Overview. AB&B is counting on you overlooking it. This bait and switch tactic should be outlawed. Shame on AB&B for using this deceptive pricing tactic!
If you own a property and want to rent it thought AIRBNB be careful. They do not require any deposit. Guests can do anything they want without any consequences. They smoke weed and cigarettes inside the house, leave the property as dirty as they can without any recourse.
I did not have a god experience with guests from Airbnb. It is better to stay vacant than have the property destroyed for a few bucks of rent.
DO NOT BOOK AIRBNB!
I will never book with Airbnb again. They do not protect their guests from scam hosts. This company cost me 3300. 00 and after reading reviews I am not the only one for this particular property. This property was in a bad neighborhood with fighting Pitt bull dogs right next door. Bars on all the windows. Prostitutes on the corner, houses falling down in the neighborhood. This host only had inside pictures and no outside. 1320 Ohio St. N Lakeland Florida. Once we got there we realized why! In less than 3 months Airbnb has let a particular host misrepresent a property and scam people out of over 9000. 00 just from what I am reading on reviews! DO NOT USE AIRBNB! They will not protect you from bad hosts! They will not help you get your money back! They are a joke! You would think they would screen their hosts to protect their guests.
I know they try to keep bad reviews off their site. A place in Vienna where I stayed was noisy, stank of stale cigarettes, and had no curtains. When I complained the owner offered 10% back if I left immediately. When I refused he called the police. AIRBNB cancelled it so I could not review it. Another place in Paris was even worse but I couldn't find anywhere else so I stuck it out for a week. All the reviews were glowing for this place but my review never made it on the site. Very suspicious.
Answer: AirBnB is the worst. You might be able to go to the resolution centre, but previous posts are correct. Watch your money with them. Once they make an error it's hard to get it back. You may have to go through the credit card you charged it to and even then the dispute process might take awhile. Hopefully, you have other money to use in the mean time or the date of your trip is at least weeks out? They are asking you to "verify your ID" so they can gain access to your linked in, Facebook and google contacts. They say it's a security measure to protect you and everyone else but it's not. They are pirating your info. They take your contacts and use it as a marketing tool for themselves or sell the contacts to other distributors. It's very common with sites like this now. If you want to continue using AirBnB you have no choice unfortunately.
Answer: Being a host, I can say that when things are going good, all is great, but if something goes wrong, as a host, you will not get the support from Airbnb that is promised. They do not stand behind their hosts, I find they like to a facade that all is great in the land of Airbnb. I have cancelled my listing and will not deal with them anymore in the future.
Answer: As a host & licensed realtor with multiple properties in both Los Angeles & Las Vegas which I book directly and also have listed with multiple vacation rental agencies, SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY & AGGRAVATION by booking either DIRECTLY with the host or through other REPUTABLE Agencies, such as Roomorama.
Answer: I haven't been a host, but would certainly recommend that you read ALL the reviews here before getting involved with Airbnb. I can't think of ANY business of ANY type I would patronize that got a 1.5 star rating after 382 reviews.
Answer: They offered $25 discount of next booking I just chose to go else where
Answer: You don't. The only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have a problem Airbnb will be unreachable. They hide from dissatisfied customers and hosts alike. You are taking big chances when you deal with them. The benefits just aren't worth the risks.
Answer: No, you would be lucky and have to fight to get a refund if you cancel 1 day after you make the reservation!
Answer: Hello, First, the credit card co. Needs to be notified and will refund the amount spent. In turn, the cc co. Will backcharge. Airbnb is notorious for these types transactions and should be shutdown. Your son has learned a business lesson... research a business prior to do business!
Answer: This is the root of my problem with AIRBNB. They do not check to see if a host can legitimately rent the place they are advertising. In my experience, the host cancelled 48 hours before, claimed she was going to be evicted if she rented to me. I was only 3000 miles from home. AIRBNB offered me a 10% discount to rebook another place. I did not and will not use them again.
Answer: Susan's answer is very thorough and I agree with her. Even more important when booking places outside your country of origin to ensure you don't get a flea pit. Also, always look at the reviews, they are very important. If there is a really bad review, don't stay there. You need to check the locations online as well. You don't want to be in a bad, dangerous area... this just happened to someone staying in Philadelphia. If you have a problem, the AirBnB website is useless. Google the AirBnB customer service number from your location. Renee
Airbnb has a rating of 1.4 stars from 2,085 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Airbnb most frequently mention customer service, credit card and full refund. Airbnb ranks 442nd among Hotels sites.
