I've been using laptops for many years. This one is quite nice as long as it is for work stuff. Gaming is OK if it is simple games. May lag a bit few times otherwise it's fine

I recently purchased an Acer touch screen computer. For the first month and a half it was very slow but functional. It suddenly froze up and would not boot up. After many unsuccessful attempts to resolve the problem, I contacted a tech from their support site. The tech center was located in the Dominican Republic and communication with the tech was difficult to say the least. After many attempts to reset or correct the problem, it was found that the unit had a hardware that needed in shop repair. The unit had to be sent out of the U.S. to the Dominican Republic for repairs. I was uncomfortable with that as I have heard horror stories of units being lost or stolen. The unit was only 1 1/2 months old and felt a replacement was warranted. I suggested they send a replacement computer and I would send the damage one back upon receipt. They refused saying their policy is for the consumer to send the product to them (AT THEIR EXPENSE!) and wound not replace the unit. I felt they basically were saying "TAKE IT or LEAVE IT" I contacted my U.S. retailer who understood the situation and agreed to take the unit back and give a FULL REFUND. I can tell you that I will never deal with this company again! All I can say is fully understand the "COLD HEARTED" policy if you intend to purchase their products

REmind me why we bought Acer

We are a computer store, in business for nearly 30 years, and have bought and sold Acer products for many of them. Recently, we purchased a lot of Acer Vero laptops through a major retail venue for resale to our customers. This may seem trivial to some but, the fact that the R and the E keycaps would be printed backwards, in an awkward yellow color was definitely NOT emphasized in the presentation. This, according to Acer's explanation, is to highlight the importance of Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling. Thus the "R" and "E" silliness. No doubt, some Marketing weenie thought of this and sold the supposedly smarter and more experienced executives on it as a good idea. Brilliant, I tell you! We'll appeal to the environmentally conscious and to the general woke crowd, all while forcing the Stone Age Boomers, Gen X'ers, and Millennials into the the "future". This is all just part of a cynical Marketing plan that takes advantage of the current pop-culture of electric cars (without adequate electrical supply nor infrastructure to support them), recycle everything rhetoric (when, in fact, the ones who actually DO recycle ARE largely those same Stone Age holdovers), and eternal work-from-home addicts (regardless whether it makes sense or not). Never mind that the end-users would not have wanted this disfigurement on a device that they paid for! What kind of lame-brained, over-the-top, 'go-green' marketeer (and the executives who bought into it) did this? They have managed to take a generally pretty good laptop and with one stroke of someone's pen, turn it into an unpalatable joke. If you can live with it, by all means, keep your eyes open and look for them in the clearance section at bargain basement prices. Brilliant plan... ruin your own product! There have already been complaints. And then, they decided that 'built-in' Alexa was a great idea, too! That just gives our more paranoid customers an added excuse to return them, based on their belief that they are being monitored. We are in the process of trying to return the remainder of our stock.

Ok, Acer. Let me start with the pros. Lasted a good 5 to 6 years. Pretty color. Worked well enough. Cons: I HATED that you will be in the middle of something and it will just start updating for a good 15 - 30 minutes. No warning, no way to stop it, just goes and it does it once a week at the very least. My sister bought one recently and her's is even worse. It will do the no announced update for HOURS. She hates it and is considering calling it a loss and purchasing a whole new laptop from another manufacturer. I can't not tell you how annoying those updates are. You are typing away on your report and BAM it just closes on down, freezes you up and takes it's sweet time. I put up with it as along as I did because I didn't use it that much. Finally Windows 7 went out and I bought another brand that is also not any good. So that's a two person review for the price of one. Do not purchase unless you have patience galore and plenty of time on your hands!

Power cord

We bought our Acer laptop 2 years ago and have already replaced 4 charger adaptors because the part that plugs into the laptop is too thin and keeps breaking. Wish we had never bought one.

If you want any computer, choose Acer. Their computers are greatly priced and really nice. I currently use an Acer laptop and love it. If you want an affordable, high quality laptop, get it at Acer. Not like dumb Alienware that's like super overly priced.

I do own a laptop made by acer and all I can say it was a good choice. The price/quality ratio is really good, although if you dont really need to mobility - then get a PC. I'm serious.

Laptops are Awful
April 8, 2017

I always liked ASUS and someone told me that Acer is comparable in quality and in price. Well, I can say the prices are usually lower, but the products are awful. I purchased two laptops from Acer in less than two years.

The first one was about six months old when the hard drive failed. I sent it in to fix. It was fine but then the laptop started to overheat like crazy out of nowhere and then shut off. Then, the hinge on the screen broke so the screen fell flat on the surface unless something was propped behind it. After a year, when the warranty was over, the overheating was shutting off the computer too consistently so it was impossible to use; winter or summer, didn't matter what the temperature was.

Replacing the first laptop, the second one worked perfectly fine, until exactly a year passed when the warranty expired, that the laptop froze frequently with audio looping itself. Only way to fix was to power it off manually. The screen's backlight also failed and started to show dim and dark spots everywhere on the screen. Next, the battery was unusable after one year and a couple of months. It didn't hold a single among of charge, so I had to keep the laptop plugged in all the time unless I paid for another battery.

The first laptop was just me purchasing, but the second laptop was just poor judgment. I never purchased anything from Acer after this. It was a horrible mess. Shortly after, I purchased an HP laptop around the same price range and it was fine for years. I can't judge for the rest of Acer's products, but laptops are a no-go for me.

I own two notebooks made by Acer. Concerning these are not the latest models and far not the most powerful ones - they are very reliable for everyday use and carrying along. I recommend!

Acer acer acer, the most wide-spread plastic distributor in computer industry.

I gotta say, the performance to value ratio is stellar. I got a 25.5" Acer screen, which I bought from BestBuy for $400 open box 3 years ago, and I still use it virtually every day on my gaming machine. I've owned a few other Acer monitors - they are always very reasonable for the size and performance.

I never owned an Acer computer, but I remember my dad being very proud of having an Acer PC versus a generic clone back in 1996.
All acer laptops I've dealt with were well designed (for disassembly).
Have never noticed any bad repeated problems like a fail with HP's DV6000-DV9000 nVidia series.

The only reason I'm down marking Acer is because instead of customizing a laptop on their site, you have to pick out of different iterations of the same model (sometimes too abundant). It's border-line ridiculous: some of their models have up to 30 different configurations.
Imagine Dell making up every possible configuration of their customizable systems, assigning a separate model number to it, then listing all of them in a wall of computers. Well you'd get Acer, but 3-5 times the quantity.

As well Acer's representation through BestBuy and other retailers is limited to "most popular" models, which are made popular due to being one of a very limited group of choices - so really - it's time to offer customization on the site Acer.

Last December, I bought an ACER Aspire V laptop. I read all of the reviews and thought it was a good buy for the money. When I get it wrong, I really get it wrong.

This laptop was glitchy from the moment I fired it up. I quickly realized that I had a lemon. I contacted ACER's support team. They were not very interested and did little to help me get it running right. They said they would not replace the machine, but would allow me to ship it back to them for repairs. This was a major pain for me, since it meant that I had to use my old machine for more than a month (it was on its last legs). This was a major disruption to my business.

I provided ACER with a detailed list of everything that was wrong. When I got it back, I discovered very few of the glitches were fixed and it was now presenting with new problems. The folks at ACER indicated this was not much of a concern for them. They suggested I could send it back again. Since my old computer was pretty much toast, this was not a good option.

The final concern came when they recently wanted me to extend my warranty. Since the first warranty proved to be useless, I felt like this was rubbing salt in the wound.

The costs of shipping, repairs, and time spent on the phone with me probably cost them much more than it would to simply treat their customers right in the first place and to build quality products. Add into this the loss of potential future sales and the management of this company begins to look like they should take some beginner classes in modern business practices.

I would stay away from this company and its products until they make a serious commitment to improving quality and treating their customers right.
