3 months and waiting for a novel. Paid the amount in full including postage but never received it. Its a scam site
The site has been down for days... what is going on and how soon can we expect it to be back up. It's hard to make $ without an active site!
I actually had a pretty good experience with Abebooks. When I contacted them they responded and my order came just fine.
They sent me the wrong book, probably on purpose. Scammers, I will pay more on Amazon than buy from these people
Sent the wrong books and there is no support if the bookseller screws you over. I threw away $40.00... NEVER AGAIN!
Deceptive sellers and non-existent support - that's what AbeBooks is all about.
It's hard to know if this is by design or if it's just amateur hour in Victoria, BC, CANADA. Either way, it's not good. There's no way of knowing who you're buying from, or where the books are shipping from. Judging by the reviews, it's obvious that seller and book information is often misrepresented, and AbeBooks does nothing about it.
Their claims that books ship directly from the listed bookseller are patently false. I ordered a "good condition, clean book with light amount of wear" from a seller in Lewiston, NY, which took 2 weeks to arrive. During that time, the seller's profile switched from Lewiston, NY to Richmond Hill, Ontario, then back to Lewiston, NY, in an obvious attempt to fool customers into thinking they're transacting within their own borders.
When the book finally arrived, from FRANCE, it was at least 50 years old, tattered, had writing and underlining all throughout, and was so mildewed that I had to pick it up with salad tongs. It had no ISBN as advertised, probably because it pre-dated that system, which made it impossible to verify it was the correct version.
Do yourself a favor: BUY FROM AMAZON, where you'll never be subjected to any of this.
Very unreliable and slow shipping. Its been 8 days, class started and no book. Never buy from them again.
Love the customer service here and all information they gave me about the book, including delivery date was correct!
My card was charged immediately but I never received my book. Horrible Customer service. DON'T Buy from this company.
Abe books sucks. I should NOT have ordered my books without looking at the reviews first. Lesson learned.
In the past year I have purchased more than 100 books via abebooks.com, and the last bad experience has finally soured me toward ever using this online direct sales venue. I purchased an expensive book (over $50) I knew in advance had a damaged cover. However, I did not know it had been through a fire and was in decayed enough a condition that I had an allergic reaction to it. I went to the trouble to renovate the cover, sat down to read it, and got ill. Sunny Day Books then told me that I would get a full refund if I returned it. I did so, got only a partial refund, and was told that my claim was "unfounded". So I lost lots of time at a very busy moment and lost over $10 for all my extra effort. I did not want to have to send back this book, immediately bought another copy from Germany, and will now have to wait for it until August. When I explained all of this in detail to abebooks, I got merely an acknowledgement that I had received a partial refund. Nothing more. What kind of customer 'service' is that? DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE.

I've only used this website a few times and did not encounter any problems. Got what I ordered and in a decent amount of time.
It took too long to order and all my bank details needed bank approval. I'm 88 and could not understand bank"app" Gave after 45 minutes
I received a HEAVILY HIGHLIGHTED book after having contacted GoldBooks before ordering and having been assured that the Very Good classification of the book meant that its text would be pristine. The book sent to me was from a different bookstore 150 miles away from GoldBooks, and the invoice in the book said "Don't include the price paid because the book is a gift." My conclusion is that GoldBooks practices drop-shipping. Through AbeBooks, they advertise books which they don't have, and then when they get an order they arrange for another bookseller to ship a book which is in poorer condition than what they advertised, and they pocket the price difference. This sort of practice is reprehensible, totally dishonest, and should be made illegal. AbeBooks advertises for GoldBooks and other drop-shippers, so if you buy through them you may get a book of much worse quality than you paid for.
Over a few years, I have ordered 7 books from AbeBooks. I had significant trouble with 2 of them: the above described case with GoldBooks and a non-delivery from the UK that I failed to notice until AbeBooks 90 days for any complaint had passed. The reason I did not notice is that the UK seller did not provide a tracking number. Of the 7 books ordered only 3 had tracking numbers.
Bottom line is that you have high odds (28% in my experience) of losing money and time if you buy from AbeBooks.
I will never again order a book from this website. I ordered the book I needed for the class, it showed the picture of the book that was required for my class and when i got it in the mail it was the STUDENT MANUAL for the book. I was so mad that i had spent $100 on a book that ended up being the wrong one, so i e-mailed them asking if i could return it, they e-mailed me back that i could and i needed to do a return request, so i did. Then the next day i got an e-mail saying to disregard the other e-mail, that i couldn't return it because it was my fault. I ended up throwing a big enough fit that they told me i could return the book and get a refund. I returned the book through USPS like they requested, and I've had to hound them for my refund. They asked me when would be a convenient time for them to call about my refund and i told them 2 PM the next day, not only did they not call at 2 PM the next day, they called at 9 PM and i couldn't understand the guy over the phone and he was extremely rude. I've returned the book over a month ago and i still haven't received my refund and i am still hounding them everyday for it. AWFUL place to order from and terrible customer service.
Hello sitejabber webpage! Hope we all reviewers having a fantastico 2018! So this morning, I found out I was requested to pay $5 extra just to receive my book. I really needed this book for my Computer Architecture class, and I am furious knowing I will not be receiving a book from Abe. The book seller contains the name DC BookDepot. It is real unprofessional to charge me another CHARGE after the FACT I paid them! They promised 5-9 business days, and they changed it to 8 to some more business days. They claimed the book is too heavy, which is why they charged me an additional $5. RIDICULOUS LIKE ROB DYRDEK! I immediately cancelled, and thank GOD the ice manipulator I still have that same $25 in my bank account NOWOS! Please--I REPEAT--PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM THESE SELLERS! REAL UNPROFESSIONALOS! SCAMMERS! THEY JUST WANT YOUR DINERO! Hope this review was helpful! May we have a blessed 2018!
I was getting some good books for a while but i ended up seeing a double charge on my card and tried to contact them only to get nothing.
Make sure you are certain about the book you are wanting. They sell books from other vendors and if you need a return, it isn't going to happen.

Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
AbeBooks has a rating of 1.6 stars from 715 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with AbeBooks most frequently mention customer service, tracking number and credit card. AbeBooks ranks 39th among Used Books sites.
