I'm a graduate student, and I always buy used books because I want to save money. Usually I buy from Ebay but this time I decided to buy from this AbeBooks and it was a terrible mistake. First of all, estimated delivery time is 24 days, even I live in Colorado and seller was located in Illinois. I said fine I can wait because I really needed that book. After the purchase they gave me a trucking number which was showing me that my book still in the process of being picked up by USPS for 2 weeks! It took them 14 days to drop my book to USPS office. I said ok. Then in 20 days it's allegedly arrived to my local USPS office and disappeared. I agree that it's a fault of USPS for not delivering to my address. But the saddest part is that I had to wait a whole week to start my refund initiating (even though USPS gave me an approval document about refund claim) because it's written in THEIR "AbeBooks" policy and seller had never responded to my questions. AbeBooks told me to wait an answer for 3 days from the Seller who of course didn't send me anything. And after those 3 days, AbeBooks told me wait another 8 calendar days to start refund initiation process. And only today 5/3/2019 they initiated refund and they told me to wait 3 business days to get my money into my account. I'm screaming. What a waste of my time! I purchased my book 4/4/2019 and today is 5/03/2019. A whole month for nothing. And I'm still waiting my money. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER purchase anything from this site.
Dont buy books here. They take your money and dont send you your paid for books. Total rip off! I paid $101.00 for 6 volumes and recieved one volume. Dont use this company.
Sold me a book, took my money, two days later told me they cancelled my order. Now I have to wait a hope they give me my money back. Thriftbooks.com is far better.

IF you use abebooks avoid buying anything from WFL BOOKS (Holtsville NY USA). Chances are it will never arrive or it'll be the wrong book. Both happened to me in the same order.

If I can give zero star I would. Customer service is no existent. The only time they would response is when they didn't get paid and wonder why. I dealt with 2 vendors. One vendor was fine but took 4 weeks to receive a textbook. Why that long? The other vendor is horrible. I ordered a NEW textbook but received an USED textbook. The textbook had a sticker clearly stated that the textbook is USED. I reached out to Abebooks and all they did was forward my complaint to the vendor. The vendor stated he sent the USED version by mistake. He tried to get me to take the USED instead of the NEW book. What a bait and switch. I told him I want the NEW textbook I ordered along with a prepaid envelope so I can return the USED book back to him. After multiple emails from me over a week, he stated the book is in the mail. When we opened the 2nd book, it was in WORST shape than the first textbook and clearly not a NEW book. Obviously the vendor lied to my face when he stated he has the NEW textbook. At this point, my cc company has a dispute on this charge and refunded my money so I am not out anything. I told Abebooks if the vendor wants his 2 USED textbooks back, he can send me the prepaid self addressed envelope otherwise the USED textbooks will be collecting dust in my house. So the moral of the story is DO NOT USED Abebooks or the vendors on there.
I updated my review from one to three stars because they were quick to refund my card after canceling my order. I ordered from them because I'm in Pensacola, FL and they're in N Miami Beach, FL. It took 2 days to confirm my order and at that time, they then told me that the book was estimated to be delivered on May 11. Three weeks! I also ordered from them because of their 4 1/2 star rating through bookscouter.com. Had I known that it would take this long for delivery, I would have ordered the book from a pleothra of other dealers. My son wanted this book before our trip coming up. Why almost three weeks from N Miami to Pensacola? That being said, I went on Amazon and found the book, same price. I got an amazing offer to join Amazon Prime and with that came free one day shipping. I ordered the book yesterday morning. It will be here today. Although I comment Abe Books for refunding my card immediately, I have to ask myself how they will stay in business with other places out there that exceed expectations of customers?

If I was able to give it a zero star rating I would. I order my book 31 days ago and it was supposed to be here in 8-14 business days but I still haven't received it. STAY AWAY from this website!
Avoid Ergodebooks. Avoid AbeBooks in general. It seems they missed the whole 19th century and are unaware of telephones.
You're lucky if you even get a refund. This retailer has shady 3rd-party sellers who may or may not send you the book. The seller can enter the tracking number of your order in the system PREMATURELY which effectively voids the 30-day money back guarantee where they won't let you initiate the refund yourself. Now you have to contact AbeBooks' dismal customer support to do the refund manually.
If your item does not arrive, you are at the mercy of the seller or the platform. I bought a book from Ergodebooks and their "24/7" number rang a few times then it can no longer be contacted. Escalating to AbeBooks is just as frustrating. There is no number to call them directly and their email support feels like they just choose if they like to respond or not. If they respond, they do not even bother to read the whole support thread and gives you crap advice which we already went over with. I have to repeat the same story to 4 different people for them to finally understand I wanted a refund. They only act quickly after you have made clear your frustration. They will even try a lowkey smarta$$ comeback.
The seller confirmed the item is lost in postal transit. My item is 17 days overdue and conditionally covered by the 30-day money back guarantee. It feels like they are just waiting for the 30 days to expire hoping you will give up.
You can get your refund but you have to be relentless in your follow-ups. First time experience and let's just say never again - even with my money back.
The Estimated Delivery Date was March 13,2022, and I received I on February 25,2022. It was delivered within 6 days and it was delivered 16 days earlier than the estimated date.

On March 19th 2018 I ordered a book - 22$ for a 8 week class. It's been 20 days and I keep getting tracking text that say " it's arrived a facilities UPS around the country" LMFAO... my book is a world traveler... it was suppose to be here in 3-5 days - I paid for shipping too... I'm an idiot to ever trust anyone but Amazon who sticks by there word - It is not even the money it's the fact & aggravation - I got a message from the seller a week ago " it's on its way PLEASE WAIT" what crap - so if I could give a negative -100 score to ABEbooks which hadn't contacted me - that score wouldn't be low enough

Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
