Who in your organization has the authority to spend your members' money to run expensive radio ads supporting Lucy McBath? ALL of your members DO NOT support her or her party and did NOT vote for her. I am appalled that your organization would assume that this is OK. It is NOT and I will NEVER be part of AARP again.
When I signed up I was told that I would get a organizer and never did. I can't get any place to give discounts when I show my card. It's a rip off.
AARP is very resourceful. The forums are great to exchange ideas on products, inusrance and everything for and used by Seniors. They are always offering new things for the senior population.
This is second tine I have purchased a year membership to AARP. Not obe discount. Website information worthless. Very dissatisfied. Don't waste your money.
I am recently retired and after reading some articles concerning AARP and its benefits for retired people, I decided to purchase medical insurance through them. After all, they are supposed to be especially for retirees. Big mistake! In a phone interview I mentioned my medical history of the past few years. They are going to find out anyway! They asked me about potential medical conditions for the near future. I told them there was a possibility, but I had no intention of pursuing it. BIG MISTAKE! Now it's cast in stone like the Ten Commandments of death penalty judgment for being honest! WHAT? So... I'm supposed to lie to my health care professional? So... I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't! In my phone interview I verified that the conversation was being recorded. Yes, it was. So... you all have RETIRED PEOPLE as part of your mission. Yet, anyone questionable to you gets thrown out in the trash. Well... you are telling me, for the record, that I'm better off dead than alive! THANK YOU AARP, FOR HELPING RETIRED PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF!
I signed up for AARP when I turned 50,16 years ago, and almost immediately started receiving tellemarketing calls. At the time, we only had a home phone and, unaware why this was happening, I signed up for the 'do not call' with the Dept. of Agriculture. Every day it was something new, windows, plumbing, someone wanting to buy our home. In the meantime, I got a cell phone and the calls started on that, too. It took me 3 years to realize where all of these calls were orignating from. I called AARP and they actually admitted to selling member names for profit. I was furious! It took several years after getting rid of AARP to stop receiving unwanted calls but the damage was done. NEVER again! I won't take United Healthcare supplemental Medicare insurance because its written by AARP. They definitely create alot of problems for members as well as the outrageous cost of Hartford insurance. Get a quote and when they write the policy, it will be $1,000 over quote. If you don't take it, they report you to the state and you'll get a letter that your license is suspended for no insurance, even if you've purchased a policy elsewhere. AARP and their co-conspirators will definitely cause you heartache
Sick of opening mailbox to hundreds of requests to join this worthless slushfund that sucks hard earned money from trusting, low income money from senior citizens!
Aarp is a waste of money and they're partner companies, new york life, the heartford and consumer cellular are all sorry. What a complete waste of money.
My Father is 96, He stopped driving several months ago. He had paid his policy in full, there was 8 months left on the policy when he decided it was time to stop driving. Instead of cancelling the policy he felt AARP had treated him good, so he let the policy run out, allowing them to keep 8 months of premium.
He started receiving Bills in the mail from AARP/ Hartford after the policy ran out. He was confused about why he was getting bills because he did not renew. We were told that because he didn't cancel they billed him for for additional coverage until THEY Cancelled the policy. I explained the situation to them, and they DID NOT CARE. Instead I was told I should have cancelled for him. I live in California, my father lives in Oregon, it was when I went to visit he asked me for help with the situation. I also am a senior citizen and I was considering getting a Quote for car insurance for myself, until this happened. I have a large family and we all are cancelling our memberships with AARP and non of us (or our friends) will ever do business with AARP.
I'm ashamed to say I have been a member of AARP for 13 years. All that time, things were bothering me, but I pushed them aside. After all, this is AARP, the trusted organization that fights for and supports seniors.
Every year they sent me a renewal notice. I would look in my records, see I was fine for another year or two or five, throw it away, and grumble. This year I got the renewal notice and paid it. (Keep in mind I was set up with auto renew because I could not change it. I'd change it, but it would always reset.)
When I received my new card, exp. March 2026, I put it in my wallet and saw my old card exp. March 2025. I still had over four years left. Why did they take my $12 for renewal without a word? And why did they send me a renewal notice AGAIN?
I called to get my $12 back and to complain about this practice. Brittany and Allison, when asked for their last name or employee number, both said they didn't have them. Strange! I got my $12 refund, or so they said.
I got to thinking about my membership. 1. I throw the magazine away because it is of no substance; just a lot of ads that target old people. 2. Every time I look at their discounts, I find they are minuscule and I can save a lot more money on my own or with my credit card, or with my auto club card. 3. They are making millions off seniors who don't need to renew, but renew anyway because AARP sends them a renewal notice every year when their membership is not expiring. 4. The employees are lying and don't want anything coming back to them when they refuse to give their id numbers.
After much reflection, I realize this is one of the biggest scams in our country and we seniors have bought into it. I cancelled my membership and they say they are refunding my $50 + But time will tell.
I'm ashamed for swallowing the lies for 13 years. But no more.
AARP IS MISINFORMATION AT ITS FINEST.
AARP backs the Hartford insurance corporation. This is one of the worst homeowners insurance companies that I have ever dealt with. They tell you one thing to sell you a policy and when you have a claim you get the short end of the deal. I recently had inspector check my home for damage namely the roof. The inspector found excessive hail damage on the roof and also the downspouts and screens of my home. I had two roofing companies come to look at my roof. They both stated that I had hail damage and some wind damage. The Hartford Ins paid adjuster came out and looked at my home. He stated that I had hail damage on my downspouts and my screens of my home but no damage on the roof. I stated that I must Live in the only home that hail falls parallel to the ground and not from the sky. They also sold me a policy with 5% wind and hail deductible. I was told it was up to 5% of the repairs required but that's not how it works. It is 5% of the cost to replace your home from the slab up which adds up to moreThen the roof cost. The Hartford is a dishonest insurance company
I posted a review on AARP as a result of them impacting and driving up my cost on car insurance with The Hartford. To recap, I canceled my insurance with them after 32 years. I ended up taking AAA which matched and beat The Hartford's insurance rate and am receiving better coverage with AAA.
Now after all the phone calls and correspondence with the Hartford in regards to AARP, I have noticed on all of the commercials for United Health, Cellular One And the Hartford... there is now NO endorsement attached to any of those 3 businesses with AARP. Isn't that something else? AARP does nothing for us senior citizens "Period". My friends and neighbors are following suit and realizing there are no savings thru this company, in fact it increased the cost on what they were paying and lowering what coverage they were always getting before the AARP affliation. Do your homework! I am so glad I did. The funny part is that I now longer receive AARP's junk mail anymore. I call that another "win" as well! The Hartford is still being used, United Health and Cellular One I am unsure about... be careful and Ask these companys... Please. Thank you.
I was an Area Governor with Toastmasters a couple years ago, and I had a bad experience with the AARP Toastmasters Club. We had a speech contest at Holy Cross Hospital, and I was asked to judge the contest. I cleared my schedule to help out at the contest like I always did for years. When I arrived, the AARP members would not let me serve as a judge. There are no restrictions on the number of judges, so there was no real reason to not let me participate. I sensed a bad vibe from the AARP members, who were all black females. I asserted myself and asked why I could not participate, and I was put down by the black women. "Oh My God," was their response when I said I wanted to participate in the contest because I made sacrifices to attend the contest. I did not cause a scene, and I left the contest to be with my family. I quit Toastmasters a short while later. This occurred in the Washington DC area where AARP is headquartered. If you support racism and sexism. AARP is for you. If you believe in equality and justice, don't waste your money on this organization.
AARP app & access to benefits is usually unavailable. Customer Service doesn't know whether it will be 2 weeks or longer before they fix their app.
So it's been 3 months now since I joined AARP and I have as yet NOT FOUND A SINGLE PERSON who gives ANY KIND OF DISCOUNT OR BENEFIT to AARP Members! Don't waste your time or money!
My mom is 87 with half her faculties. I monitor her checkbook. She wrote another check to AARP. Sucks
Nothing I can use. I don't travel or eat out, especially now during Covid. It may be of value to some just not me.
