I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.

I sent very expensive brands and they only accepted the cheaper brands (maybe they only know Gap, Calvin Klein, etc.) anyhow I received 1$ per item basically. One pair of shoes brand new from Anthropologie, I got a few bucks for them and they listed them at about 20$. A brand new Babaton top at 150$ they listed it also around 20 and I got a few bucks. The very expensive european brands I sent, they did not list and refused to return them (I had to ask it before sending the bag). My advice: if you have expensive brands, ask a return as they DO NOT accept expensive brands, only the cheap ones, and you loose a tone of money. I now give everything to goodwill since it is at least a charity and takes less time and effort.

This company is a scam. Even after sending in just the type of clothing brands they asked for I was still only given 2.60 for an entire bag of clothing. I think it is really important that this information gets out there so that others are not duped into this shady company.

Cindy - i took them over a month to process my bag. In the end they told there was one thing worth selling. I had to ask what happened to my other items (vera bradley, eileen fisher etc.). Some were "difficult" to sell others were faded or had mysterious stains I was unaware of. My sage advice - do not send them anything else. If you do pay for the return bag. I think ThredUp is a scam or at the very least not practicing ethical business practices. I'm sorry you're frustrated - I understand, I was there. It sucks.

Cindy, the bag I sent was the same. The clothes were in good condition. Nothing ripped, worn, torn or faded. I was paid 80 cents for an entire bag. And when I emailed them asking questions like you are asking, the response I received (2 weeks later no less) was pretty much a "Sorry you had a bad experience. I will be sure to let the team know how you feel." And that was it. I have not heard from them again. Thank you for being bold and asking this question. I hope the folks at ThredUp see this and respond!

You might want to avoid the furstration and take your items to a local consignment shop. Swap.com is a new used clothing site... where they are really half the cost of thredup. Selling with them is backlogged due to a high interest. I ordered through them and was quite pleased with their items.

Many people asked this question and my answer is the same every time. This people are rip off artist. S what did they do with all the clothes they don't buy from you. Do they really donate them I think they sell them on a different site under a different name or in a boutique or whatever... you're much better off going to a local consignment store or using the offer up app

I will sell clothing on eBay or Poshmark before I ever send ThredUp another bag of great clothing and get nothing for it. Just don't do it.

It's awesome too when you get an email saying how much it sold for. You only got pennies of that.

Taking Merina (Target brand) but not Jones New York makes no sense at all.

I've had the same experience this year as all of you. My high end designer items have "disappeared" (toddler True Religion jeans) and I am assuming they made it to the "open market" for resale. I've been using ThredUp for 3 years now to consign and this is the first year I've ever had issues. I have filed my complaints and suggest you all file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau also!

I have also reported them to the BBB! This company is not morally sound...

I hear a lot of negative remarks about thredup, but interestingly enough I have always done better with them than Twice who basically stole a bag of clothes from me. I have sent in five bags, 4 of which since they changed their payout. I have made roughly $150 per bag upfront and usually $250 once consignment items sell. Admittedly I send in designer stuff-BCBG, French Connection, Splendid, etc. and honestly I feel lk it's worth more than what the per item cost of the payout is BUT I'm too busy/lazy for eBay and poshmark and have yet to feel totally ripped off by this company.
And for what it's worth I always pay for the bag return fee as they suggest if you are sending in high end items.
My one complaint is how long they take to acknowledge receipt of bag, and then to process and pay you.

I Don't know how else to say it... Just Do Not send these crooks any item. It's way better to go ahead and donate it to a charity of your choice. Again, they are Thieves!

Cindy I have sent at least 5-6 bags received about $35.00 to 45.00 per bag, have no complaints with them at all I did send alot of my grandchildens clothes which are top brands and only received $6.00 I didnt understand that one, however I am presently sending them another bag, I always request my clothes bag to sell at flea markets or I dontate to church, the only bag I have a complaint about was the childrens clothes.

Thred Up is a company that wants to make a profit off of your clothing, but will only send you pennies on a dollar. I had two bags processed. After I received only $3.00 I decided I will ONLY purchase their clothes because they have good quality clothing.

I think they are truly looking for only high end items to resell. In the past year, I've heard very few positives, but like others I continue to send in my bags with the thought that I get a little something vs. nothing if I straight out donated to Sallies.

I always take the time to respond where this company is concerned. The company is shady, at best. Do not send them clothes. Your designer items will have mysterious stains that make them unsellable. Stains that were not there when you sent them in. They will accept brands like Target or Kohl's and give you a few dollars. They will answer your concerns with a form letter telling you they are sorry you were unhappy with the experience. The company is making money on the items they tell you are not sellable. Do not send your clothing to them. There are other good consignment stores and there is always Salvation Army. Do not support this business, someone is making lots of money from trusting people sending in their clothing. Infuriating!

H Cindy, They only take certain name brands, you need to check on which brands names to send to thredup. Thredup does have a list of brands they want.

This company is a scam. I've sent brand new clothes in season and they have rejected and even lied about the condition. Of course I didn't pay the fee for the clothes to be returned which makes it even more suspicious. They sell clothes On the side. I've taken similar high quality in season clothes to a local resale shop and they love the clothes and they sell fast. Find a reputable company.

Keep in mind that in order for them to keep the prices so low for the buyers, we won't get much of a return. If you feel that your items are worth more than a couple bucks then don't send them. I enjoy sending mine in because I enjoy shopping such affordable prices as well. What doesn't sell and if you don't ask for your unsellables returned then they are donated. That made me feel good knowing they were at least getting donated to less fortunate as that's what I would've done with them anyways. This company is far from a scam. If you've purchased from them then you know all the items are in excellent, like new condition every single time. And I've used Thread Up for over 2 years. If you like the great deals and low prices, you can't expect a big payout. It's a company and they have to pay people to process everything and run the company too!
