I am disappointed, and saddened with Finnair's position regarding the companies unilateral cancellation of my return reservation flight to Los Angeles from Riga, Latvia. I hope that you, personally, are never in the same position as to be cancelled and abandoned so far from home with NO notification of such what so ever, as I have had to! I guess in the era of bottom line corporate profits this was a golden opportunity to capitalize collectively on a someone's personal misfortune and suffering. This one instance alone does seem substantial but you times this opportunity by several hundred times a year ( for one reason or another). A passenger misses a connection going one way and Finnair has a golden opportunity to abandon this customer and secure another with no notification, and wow I can see how lucrative this policy must be for Finnair. With only a micro-sized one sentence statement to the effect ( to advise of this bait and swithch policy) at the end of the reservation ( only after you check the terms and condition box before), are you allowed to proceed anyway, so one does not know about this clause in advance. I must commend you and your company as this is a brilliant corporate move, and who would know about such a thing, right?
At any rate you screwed me out 1/2 of my ticket, and further demonstrated what a small airline that you really are when it comes to customer services. So not that it matters to you but obviously I won't be traveling on Finnair ever again and I will tell all family, friends, and patients the same as well, ( not that this matters to you because you are a subsidized entity and do not have to really compete to be a profitable company anyway), so it really doesn't matter to you or your company.
I know that others will read this and be advised on the internet as well. I hope that they do not experience the same misfortune from your unscrupulous, deceptive "airline industry" policy.

Scam on Advertising
January 30, 2025

I have had Yelp directory listings for many years and have received periodic calls from Yelp trying to get me to advertise - I never have. Their advertising rates are exorbitant and are the least cost affective method of trying to drum up business. I have long marveled at how Yelp selectively publishes negative reviews on my companies, yet hides my positive reviews in their "Not Recommended" section.

My biggest objection to Yelp happened 2 months ago, wherein a pushy account manager called me and induced me into trying a free $350 advertising credit. I didn't want to do it, but she kept telling me what a waste it would be not to try it. I even told her I had no intent of continuing advertising after the credit was exhausted. She did not relent, so I let her set me up. After 10 days, I received notification from my credit card that I had been charged $135.72. I looked into my Yelp account and the $350 had been used up and Yelp was now into me $135.72. The data indicated that I had 4 people look at my page; I received 1 phone call (no sale). So, for $485.72 I received 10 days worth of advertising. This extrapolates to $17,728.78 for a year.

I called up yelp, told them that I was surprised that Yelp would resort to an old scam like this...baiting you in with something free and gouging you for superfluous charges once they got you. I gave them a choice of either crediting my credit card or receiving a back charge and complaint. They made me dance through some hoops, where I had to submit details of why I deserved my money back and I had to wait a week while they investigated my complaint. I got my money back.

My advise to anyone considering advertising with Yelp is, DONT. Spend your money on your website, the value of your website will exceed anything that Yelp could possible provide you. I am surprised that such a sleezy company is still in business.

Yelp picks and chooses which reviews/responses they will post. Very racial bias and posts untrue reviews.

Never been a big Yelp user, but have had enough calls from customers based on them looking us up, so took the time to listen to the pushy Yelp salesperson promising me a huge increase in business if I signed up for their ads. 1 month and $600 and no jobs later, I cancelled the ads - (my opinion of their ads program and it's value is for another day) - Really I just wanted to mention the ads to let other business owners know not to do them- pay the $90 each month for the perks instead to avoid Yelps pushing your potential clients to other businesses. My real issue is their handling of reviews. It's just so... shady. They say it has to do with how active a user is on Yelp whether their review is recommended or not. Out of 51 reviews - all but 2 of them 5 stars and 18 from 2018 alone- each one written by a real customer with no incentive- Yelp chooses to only 'recommend' 15 of those - and only 3 from 2018. 35 are 'not recommended'. I could go on and on about their 'recommendation software' that they supposedly have no control over and how I've did a little research and comparing and found them to be liars. I could go on and on how our recommended reviews dropped from 26 to 15 in the space of a few days after I canceled the ads. But I don't have time for all that. I am just wondering who asked Yelp to nit pik through and withhold reviews that a real person took the time to write. It's BS- if I did - (which I don't)- I would want to make my own decision based on All the reviews customers had written - good and bad. I think it's very presumptuous of Yelp to decide for other people whether or not they see what they are literally on Yelp to see in the first place.

Kenneth Pokora from Yelp called me to sell me ads for my business. I agreed to try the package he offered me for $300 a month. Ms. Pokora helped me set up my account and everything was fine. A few weeks later I received a bill for $600 for the package I chose and an additional feature that I "supposedly chose". Attention here this is how Yelp lies to you. They sell you a package, the agent helps you set up your account while he guides you, you think it is part of the registration process, but no! What you are doing is adding things to your account without knowing it and when the bill comes, Booooom! There you know they ripped you off.

Anyway, I emailed Mr. Pokora to let him know what had happened and, as a surprise, he never responded. I contacted customer service, billing, and finance. Oh! Be careful, because none of these departments are here to help or listen to you. They treat you like a liar and even hang up the phone if you try to refute any issues. It seems that Yelp does not have the ability to investigate the performance and ethics of his agents or maybe it is part of his business model, who knows.

It should be noted that I never refused to pay the agreed $300, I only wanted to pay for the committed amount, not for all the extra features that appeared in my account.

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. In the end, after many months and a long history, my bank reimbursed me the $600, however, I just found out that Yelp sent me to collection.

Unfortunately, small businesses like mine have to kneel in front of companies like Yelp in order to advertise.

But watch out, this is how Yelp does business, lying and providing the worst customer service experience.

A couple years ago I was running my own professional services business, and doing really well. I had over 20 5 star yelp reviews in the first year. All of those reviews were "not recommended." All of them.

My calls to customer service were met with this line: you paid for them to review your company, or asked them to review your company. No I didn't.

"No I didn't," is not a response they hear when a business is accused of asking their customers for reviews. There isn't an explanation they understand, or a reason they can give for making this determination. She just said the algorithm figured it out. The algorithm is never wrong.

She said I should put a yelp review icon in my email. I said, isn't that just asking for reviews? "No," she said. Well, that's that. Put an icon in your email, and you get "recommended" reviews, don't put one in, and your reviews are "Not recommended."

Is Yelp going to pay me for advertising their services on my email? No. They also offered services for 3 months. I said do one month, and if it's working, I'll continue. Nope- 3 months only. They don't even trust their services. Yelp has went from a trusted review site, to a business scam. The illusion is they are so big, you can't afford not to pay them. However, the reality is the majority of businesses will not benefit from paying Yelp, but they bully or cajole small businesses into believing they have to.

Call it another tragedy of the expectation of exponential growth. It went from a good website, to a product that is itself being milked for every last possible dollar, and those dollars come from bilking mom and pop shops. Use with caution.

Greedy
August 11, 2019

Hello. I'm a new business owner trying to get established and developed. I created a yelp business page because I have happy client's and would love to build trust with new prospects. A day after I created my brand new yelp business page I received a phone call from a yelp rep Rusty Wolford. He was manipulative and pushy for me to purchase yelp ads. He made it seem like I would fail without purchasing their ads and my yelp business account wouldn't excel. I declined and told him I would like to try and start up my business on my own for a couple of months. I reassured him If I wasn't successful at doing so I will contact yelp for there help. The next day I had over 10 clients write reviews on yelp for my business and I was really excited. I checked back a week later and was shocked. Yelp won't allow any of them to be posted. Not one! I get they have an algorism that looks over all reviews and only posts the WORTHY ones from yelp members that are more established on their site. I get it. But to not allow one single review on my business page out of 10 is corrupt and not right. I called yelp and have been trying to get ahold of the same rep that is in charge of my page but he's not compliant. I've been leaving messages as well but he won't return my calls. Yelp is making it impossible for me to grow my business on my own. There completely trying to benefit off new business owners to make money. Extremely greedy and not right!

Real customer reviews are not "recommended" while other fake reviews are. Yelp is not a review platform to get an honest opinion.

Amerisave Mortgage
February 29, 2016

I initiated a refi July 2 and it was completed December 12,2015

This should have been a very simple transaction. I got an original ARM in 2013 and wanted to take advantage of lower interest rates. My wife and I have credit scores of 800, no other mortgages or collections, income significantly above 2013, and rental property with significant cash flow.

We were not asking to take any cash out, just a lower interest rate. The loan originator and processor were great and really tried to help. The problem seemed to be with an underwriteing dept that wanted significantly more data than the 2013 mortgage company

The most frustrating point was that I would send them data and receive confirmation, the data would get scanned into the "system" and then it could not be found and i'd be asked to resubmit

I finally involved Management, including the President, and would get good words but no action nor followup. So, aside from the frustration I lost the lower rate benefit for several months

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH Amerisave Mortgage

Yelp stole money out of my bank account
April 20, 2023

Do not give your credit card number to YELP! Small businesses be ware! Yelp salespeople relentlessly harassed me with calls and voicemails trying to get me to buy Yelp ads for my business. I finally tried it for an ad cycle or two and got exactly 0 leads after running Yelp ads for months each time.

Moreover, Yelp then hid ALL of my reviews (which were all 5stars) so that my business went down to 0 stars. So I cancelled all my Yelp ads and got a confirmation email confirming that I no longer had any Yelp products running on my account.

And yet, Yelp kept charging my account monthly without any Yelp products running on my account. They just decided that they had my credit card number so were going to keep charging it regardless. I had to set up a stop payment with my bank account to prevent the continued fraudulent charges. I spent hours a day calling Yelp and not getting through. On the few occasions when I did get through, the customer services agents I spoke to would look at my account, confirm that the new charges must be a mistake, and assure me that they are escalating my case to the account manager who will call me and refund the charges. Every single time it was a LIE.

I've been calling Yelp customer service for a month and every time I sit on hold for hours. When I finally get through I am lied to over and over again as they say all the right things but then no "account manager" ever calls me, nothing is ever done, and I never get my money back.

As a self employed private music teacher, I don't have a lot of extra cash to burn. So when Yelp steals money my account and refuses to give it back it really hurts me financially. I can't even imagine how many other people this has happened to.

There may be nothing I can do to make Yelp pay back the money they stole but at least I hope this review will warn other small business owners who may fall victim to Yelp's predatory business practices.

Stay away from Yelp!
