The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

Before we began advertising with Yelp we were pursued by them very often with a promise of great advertising for our Auto Body Shop. The sales person was very pushy and mislead us into thinking we would be spending A LOT less than what we eventually were billed. We were told of a flat rate of $75 per month plus a per click count the fluctuates with a cap of $550.00. We expressed our concern prior to signing on about the high cap rate of $550.00 but the sales person said that we would not have to worry about that and it would be no more than a $100-$200 for the clicks. Ever since our first bill we received we were billed $550 never less; with this amount of "clicks" we anticipated a large influx of customers but our job numbers did not increase as a result of this advertising and we were billed $550.00 every month since we started advertising with them. Advertising with Yelp was a total rip off!
We had Moxie com out today to treat our house for the quarterly treatment. The tech Adrian Sargent was super told me everything he was going to do today. Also want to make sure our pets where put up just long enough for the treatment to dry. The last guy said our pets had to stay lock up for much longer. I think the guy did not like dogs the last guy that is. Adrian meet my dog and was very kind to her as well. If got to pick my tech's every time this is the guy I would want to take care of my account evertime. The world needs a lot more tech like him.
I call McKenzie electric says just visit 125$ and has my breaker burn need to new breaker only 40dollor. Richard charge me 305 $ he very rude steeling stuff from if don't know he steel some fuse. Careful never call him
There's a Pittsburgh pool hall, "Breakers", that's a hangout and a "good ol' boy" network. They prey on outsiders. We were charged $65 for two hours on one table. I can produce the receipt. People need to be warned about this sort of thing. I wrote a very negative (one star) review and put it on the "Breakers" web site, using Yelp.
The review was 100% honest and legitimate, well written (and civil) and contained no nasty language, apart from the commonly used term "ripoff". After a short time my review was removed. I contacted Yelp. I should point out there are, in fact, other one-star reviews on Yelp, many nastier than mine and not particularly well written. I re-posted my review several times, and it was removed each time.
I contacted Yelp repeatedly over a period of several months (and, of course, transmitted a copy of the $65 receipt); all I got was vague double talk about their "placement algorithm" and the like. Then they stopped answering me altogether. Several very specific questions were never addressed.
It's pretty obvious at this point "Breakers" paid Yelp to remove the negative review. There's no other possible explanation. I just want people to know how lacking in integrity Yelp is, and that they can be bought. Obviously they'll deny this. So how much value do their reviews have?
Met a great salesman on 7/4/2016 who sold me my first brand new, very own bed. His name was CJ Lewis and he was great. Very thorough. I will love this bed forever and appreciated his help in getting me the perfect bed. I'm 53 this say's a lot. Thank's C. J.
In mid July I had B&R Tree Care treat two dying spruce trees in my back yard. It as only after they sprayed the trees that I learned from an arborist at another tree service that treatment of needle fungus disease in spruce trees must coincide with the infection period which starts from early May and runs through June, and treatment during any other time would most likely be ineffective. When I confronted B&R Tree Service with this information, they merely replied that "it was worth a shot". So unfortunately I was out of $120 and my trees are still dying. This business lacks integrity!
I have never liked Yelp. They hide bad reviews and delete goods ones unless the business owner pays them. Extortion? Sounds like it to me. It is so bias and unreliable. It is all about selling their service. I've seen it time and again where business owners are harassed and when they don't comply, Yelp wipes out the good reviews. It's just a matter of time until their reputation catches up with them and the consumer learns they cannot depend on this site.
As a business owner I did a free listing to try yelp, for four years I've been getting calls from an extremely rude salesperson that the law would consider harassment. If you try to be polite and simply say not interested they will not let you get off the phone and you eventually just have to hang up on them, they literally argue with you... I have had one call me back twice after saying I'm going to hang up, then hanging up on them. Aside from that I have not had one person call me through yelp...
As a Business owner I have hated working with Yelp. They suck. My client post 5 star reviews and for some reason yelp keeps deleting them. I was going to do a pay ad with them where you pay by the month to come up first on peoples searches, At the last minute changed my mind but they posted the account to Yelp as Closed. They would not take it down. If you are reluctant about putting yourself out there on Yelp you should be.
Charged me $17 per click for my construction business. This attracted only non-local credit card scammers and sent only one person to my website, and one phone call... it resulted in zero income... when I asked them to confirm that locals from my very small zip code were the clickers they refused... they are scammers. Also, they accepted one review from someone I had never worked for and refused the ones that were my actual customers. Yelp is a scam.
I went there for a faciel I totally understand that they are students, however the staff there leaves a lot to be desired they are rude unprofessional her name was carrie joy I will never return there I called the school to no avail save your money and go a professional salon
When I moved into the Windsor at Arbors I was given a special rate they were running. When My lease was up they raised my rent by $200.00. During my stay there I asked several times for them to fix my carpet it was coming up and I would trip over it. Never got done. I also had carpenter bees they kept my balcony dirty constantly. On the day I moved out I had forgotten my fob for the garage and parked out front with my sticker in place. THEY TOWED MY CAR. I was stunned. This is not the place it seems. While I lived there they went through so many consultants in the front office I could not keep up. This place looks good but dig deeper.
I called Season Control Heating Air Conditioning replace a drain pump for my air conditioner and they were on time. They got the job done. They have a very professional team. I will use them again because they are nice and kind team.
So... ex gf worked for this site/company. It's all about bribes and money. You give. And you will get a good review and mass emailing about the "best"
I wonder where truth will meet reality like "google marketing" says.
Beware
I have been using Yelp for about 6 years now. Yelp is a great tool for finding restaurants and businesses. I travel extensively and I can always count on Yelp when I need great places to eat or just need a place to stay. In terms of being a member of their Elite squad, it's all politics. Yelp rewards their Elite members by throwing free parties with booze and food and they think that's enough to keep people writing reviews. The Elite squad has become a laughing stock over the years because they are approving anyone who has 20+ reviews. Yelp makes millions of dollars thanks to people writing reviews voluntarily.
When I became Elite, I had well over 100 reviews and hundreds of pictures and I actually had to earn it. I have attempted to give suggestions in terms of earning points for reviews and having a rewards system that can be exchanged for discounts or yelp merchandise. The cliques of yelpers get together and attack anyone who tries to change their perfect little yelp world. At the end of this year, I will be giving up my Elite status voluntarily. I don't need a title to write good and honest reviews for people to read. If they want to censor my reviews, so be it!
I'm also pretty disgusted by their extortion allegations. A business shouldn't have to buy their marketing options in order for positive reviews to show up. People have the choice to purchase or turn down their services and if they do refuse, there shouldn't be retaliation. Their so called algorithm is manipulated by something other than a computer. It's pretty suspicious that positive reviews would appear after a business owner makes a payment for their advertising.
I selected WHITE GLOVE MOVING and STORAGE for my move. I needed storage for 26 days prior to my final destination. They charge by the hour. I noticed the foreman rushed the men like it was a race at my point of origin and at my destination. He was constantly complaining the were too many boxes. I did not live in a mansion. Upon arrival to my destination I wanted to check the boxes as the came into the house; he said there was no time to do that. So they started bring the boxes in. I noticed a chair broken and showed him, he said that it was already broken and he told me at point of origin. I tried to remain calm and said this will go on record. When all the boxes were off the truck he then started bringing in the furniture. I even said wasn't he doing this backwards. Well the men had to again move the boxes to accommodate the furniture. Wasting move valuable time and annoying the men. Then I see my wine rack broken and another chair, damage to my bedroom set. They left with things in the garage still with their packing blankets on, legs of furniture that they took apart not replaced. I spoke to the company and they were very casual saying things happen. As I opened the boxes I found many pieces broken, some irreplaceable. Some of my sculptures in smithereens. I did get outside insurance ( also a run around). White Glove has no regard for peoples items. Don"t hire them or you may be left picking up the pieces.
I use it when I wanna find a restaurant in the area. It's very useful
We had 12 good reviews on Yelp and one Bad which was a fake review about us Put in from our competition. All the good reviews were pulled, and only the fake bad one stayed. No way to contact their customer service "NO PHONE" you can email up 2 time then matters are closed. Called their Advertise sales staff "They have a Number" Was told it all algorithms,? All good reviews pulled? Seams like BS. So I read if you agree to advertise with them they put the good review on and remove fake ones. So I agreed to do some coupons with them. And wow the Bad review was removed, they contacted me again to do more advertisement, I declined Strange "Bad review was put back on.? And al good reviews removed.
I recently signed up for Vonage. I have Verizon on my cell and Comcast/Xfinity on the land line in the city no issues calling the number of issue. I have a vacation location that I wanted to try Vonage. I cannot call my elderly mother in Utah. I get "The number you have dialed is not allocated". Vonage says it is their problem not Vonage with my number, I cannot even talk to the administrators in the care center, get the same message. I call them on Verizon and they have no blocked numbers and had no phone issues. I have been pushed off by Vonage when it is ONLY their service issue, Very sad I cannot reach my elderly mother!
Company will only back its management, the workers that make things work in this company are treated like dumb, liars, scum of the earth, I had a idiot for a receiving. Supervisor, he was given this job because. His wife worked there, was promoted. From a regular. Worker to supervisor. In 3 months, I was his target ever since he started. I went to hr, the did nothing, I went to corporate.hr they did nothing, I begged. Them to move me out of his department, even to be put in a another location, I was denied, I was never interviewed. For other positions, in fact which I was over qualified to do, in fact I had worked in 3 other departments, in this Plainfield, Indiana plant, but was told by hr I wasnt qualified. To work elsewhere in this plant, this supervisor. From the time I started and he became a supervisor would harass me from the time I basically started, tags I did were. Switched, I was wrote up for things that I know I didnt do, RR Donnelley did nothing. To protect me from this harassment this receiving supervisor. Put me threw, this by far is the the most undesirable., unprofessional, place I have ever worked at, as a person that has worked in management. I wanted to return to this with this company. There are no African Americans in management with this company it is their mission not to allow this the more I pushed the more I was wrote up, I see why this company lost 4 million in one month! The incompetence. Is high up the ladder, if the board of directors. Have any marbles they would get off their lazy butts and close this location. And start over elsewhere with all new management. In place.the things I have incurred in this company is to much to put into words, I would never recommend this company. To anyone, for business or to work for if I could really grade this place it would be a -7
