My experience with this service was excellent! At first, I thought it might bea scam but it's legitimate. The tudor I worked with was very friendly and helpful. There are also many tutors who are ready and willing to help you with almost any subject. I hope more individuals learn about this site and what it serves to the public. Thank you Wyz Ant, you were a tremendous help!
I have only been working a short time with WyzAnt, but I think that it is a great website with a lot of potential for qualified individuals.
It is true that less than qualified individuals may fall through the cracks in the signup process, but these individuals drop off quickly by either 1) not being as interested and therefore dedicated to making money with the site or 2) showing their faults when speaking and/or working with potential clients.
Yes, I would rather be able to receive 100% of the payment, however I set my rates to something I can survive with and know that I am receiving a lot for that 40%: leads, a large backing company, administrative assistance and peace of mind for payments.
The site's biggest interest is not for tutor and student to connect with each other, but to make money as a third party agency. As a tutor, my account has been deactivated because a potential student was not willing to pay with a credit card through Wyzant. We still exchanged addresses and scheduled a meeting. Wyzant deactivated my account without notice, even though I have had many students before that and have brought reasonable profit for Wyzant. I would not recommend this website to any one.
Overall good experience as a beginning tutor. I was able to get 5 students within a month of joining the site. There are some algorithmic problems in how they look at underpreforming tutors which, importantly, they seem to be aware of and are looking to fix. I look forward to a continuing relationship with this company.
I found WyzAnt through a Google search when I was in desperate need of help in organic chemistry. I emailed several tutors through the site, still not exactly sure that I'd even get a response. Within hours I had heard from three tutors and I settled on a young lady named Sana. She was $40 per hour which trust me is a great deal in NYC, especially for an Ivy League educated medical professional who travelled to my neighborhood, Union Square, for no extra charge. It was very helpful to be able to speak with Sana before making any payments or commitments. When I was ready, I added a credit card to the website and after the lessons I got an email from WyzAnt with my lesson details and the amount charged to my card. The combination of the tutor selection, price, quality and simply payment mechanism makes WyzAnt a great choice if you need a tutor. I would highly recommend the company and its tutors.
This tutoring site matches tutors and students. But there's no guarantee that you would get a qualified tutor because all a tutor has to do to start tutoring is to answer a few online questions related to his or her field. No degrees or certificates are required.
I loved the fact that I could contact and be contacted. We had a very specific need and the tutor reached out and found us. That helped me, I did not have to spend so much of my time reaching out and asking questions.
My tutor pushed me to do the rating and write comments frequently on the WyzAnt, otherwise he would not get money from WyzAnt. That puts lot of stress and requirements on both the tutor and parent. As a busy parents, we hardly have time to check the email and write comments every time. That's too much.
This is a great site to find an experienced tutor. There are many options to choose from including online and face to face meetings. I will continue to use this site as my daughter moves on toward college.
Cliff Wheeler is my tutor and he is really GREAT! He is very patient and is great at explaining difficult things. He has multiple ways of making sure I understand the material that we are going through. He is very considerate and kind. I will continue to be tutored by Cliff. I will also not hesitate to share his name around to anyone who approaches me with needing some additional help. For WyzAnt, this is a very organized and professional online tutoring service. I like that I am able to meet face to face with a tutor. There is nothing sneaky about WyzAnt, they email every payment that will be processed, they give you reminders and confirmation for upcoming tutor sessions. I will refer WyzAnt to those who ask about tutoring services!
My son is taking college algebra as he wrap's up his high school career. He had completed his requirement's for math, but at my request he is taking the class. It is at this crucial time, the end of the school year he has started to struggle with various concepts of algebra. I can not help him, math is not my specialty: Enter, Joseph A, who is whipping up some magic with my son and his algebra book. Without the creative idea of Wyzant, and the simplicity of finding a tutor; there would be no Joseph A, and perhaps no algebra college credit for my son. You can learn and understand math on various levels, but without the kind nature and disposition of the tutor, it is meaningless. Joseph possess these positive trait's.
I haven't had one single request in over a year. I' m a biologist with many years experience both in the classroom and and as an aquatic ecologist and not one single contact with Wyzant. I'm not happy and wonder if it's worth it to continue waiting for something to happen.
They charge tutors 40% for their work, average tutor on the site charges 30, which means they make 18 and the company makes 12. The company which is a website makes 12 bucks for running a site. The site reads your emails, does not allow you to charge for travel (gas), expect the person being tutored to provide anything (supplies, material), and if you do tutoring online or edit work for a client, they will claim it does not count and fine you for it. Its completely client based and they will throw you under a buss for a dollar. Look around online other then the few fake post by the site you will see both clients and tutors who have had a terrible experience with this company. 2 of the 3 parties involved agree, this site is no good.
These people are scam artists. I tutored several students and never received the check that they had supposedly sent to my office. After my third inquiry, they cancelled my account and to this date (6+ months later), I've never received the mystery payment.
I was looking for PSAT tutor for my very bright daughter with some problems in reading. This site offers a nice choice of tutors and they respond very quickly. But the rates of the tutors on this site is higher than on similar sites. And actually it seems to me that the same tutors are listed in several web-sites.
Wyzant was a great source when I needed an accounting tutor. I was able to search through various tutors to find the one that best suited my needs. My tutor was always on time and responded quickly to my emails.
Going through Wyzant's website made me feel more secure about meeting with my tutor and submitting payments. The website was easy to use and setup!
My tutor also had great things to say about how easy Wyzant made it to connect with students!
I have used two math tutors, AJa and Rachel B and I was satisfied with them both. They were flexible, knowledgeable, professional, on time and patient. My daughter is improving in math and she looks forward to her sessions with Rachel. I would highly recommend both tutors.
It sucks!
I looked on the site and found a few tutors that listed the skill I was looking for. After sending $400.00 to this site, no one answered my ad. So I requested a refund. I got $360.00 back. What a deal. Is the U.S. government running this site?

WyzAnt is an innovative platform. The customer service, payment verification and processing, and scheduling system is a great value for people who want to tutor for some extra income, extra experience, or to develop skill in teaching and working with students.
The pay percentage system is designed to encourage investment in the platform. However, if you already have students and want to use the features of the system to simplify your work, WyzAnt currently has a way where you can retain most of your earnings. The screening, validation, and scheduling is the most valuable aspect of WyzAnt for me.
The website provided me enough information to find a great tutor. He was responsive to my notes, encouraging and helpful to my son and in a very short time he had the confidence (and skill) to do great on his Algebra II Trig Regents exams. We are very satisfied.
Answer: Hi. I followed up with Wyzant a number of times. They refused to let me speak to a supervisor and told me that there was nothing they could say about WHY they shut down my profile. I've never encountered such an unhelpful company (except for Comcast)...
Answer: Also, this. Is crazy to charge so much from students... like 90$ per hour? This organization should be banned and brought to justice
Answer: I did and they played emotionally. This business should be banned so students and teachers can have a reasonable way to interact and tutor on reasonable rates.
