The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, particularly regarding its customer service and reliability. Many users report frustrating experiences with delayed refunds, poor communication, and unhelpful support staff. Complaints about properties not matching descriptions or being in unacceptable conditions are prevalent, leading to a loss of trust. While a few customers express occasional satisfaction with specific transactions, the overwhelming sentiment leans towards a lack of accountability and professionalism. This has resulted in a growing number of users opting for alternative platforms, indicating a critical need for improvement in service quality and responsiveness.

Dissatisfied with VRBO. They are unwilling to consider cancellations outside of their policy even with the President's recommendation to avoid travel due to the COVID-19 epidemic. They trying to refer you back to the cancellation policy, however, today's circumstances are usual. To not to consider a cancellation is a very unethical practice. I would never consider VRBO for future travel. Avoid. For me, it has not proven to be an ethical trustworthy company.
We have a trip planned this next weekend and VRBO will not give refunds or changes. We just found out that Airbnb is offering guests full refunds and hosts no charge cancellations for reservations booked on or before March 4th with a check in date of April 14th or earlier. VRBO needs to follow this lead or NOBODY will book with them again. The government and the CDC are saying we shouldn't have any unnecessary travel. VRBO should honor that policy. The President has said this is a national emergency. Apparently VRBO is only interested in the money.
To me, it is wrong that in light of the coronavirus and the urging of the government to stay home that VRBO doesn't demand its properties to refund money. No one wants to cancel a trip right now and in this unprecedented time VRBO should make it right. We could not foresee this months ago when we booked amd the property owner will not return the $3000 plus.
My sister is pregnant and we can no longer go on the trip for fear of traveling due to Coronavirus and we can't get a full refund. Will definitely book with Airbnb next time since they have more flexible policies in response to things like this.
We had a reunion planned on SEABROOK ISLAND, SC. Well the country has shut down everything and the military is on travel restrictions. The reunion is canceled and we can't get our money back. It just really shows how greedy this company is. Do not use them. I will never book with them again and I travel often. If I could give it less stars I would.
I was booked to go on vacation in late March to Florida. With the national emergency due to the COVID19 virus, I had to cancel my reservations. The first week of my vacation was booked with AIRBNB and the second week booked through VRBO.
I must say that AIRBNB was excellent, they offered a full refund with no questions asked. My airline offered a full credit for future travel which I am OK with
When it comes to VRBO, they want nothng to do with it. They stuck to their cancellation policy. All they offerd is to keep my money $ 1,000 US. They obviously do not understand what a national emergency means. I had also asked for a full credit for a future stay later in the year when the pandemic is under control or over but this also was denied. I was offered a 15% discount for a future booking. This pandemic is out of everyone's control but somehow VRBO does not see it this way. They are only worried about their money. I would suggest that everyone stay away from VRBO as customer service, customer satisfaction and everyone's health is not a priority. I will say that I will never book with VRBO again. I will also warn everyone to be careful when booking with VRBO as thay stick to their cancellation policy no matter what
I like VRBO. I don't like one owner with whom I had to cancel because of the Coronavirus emergency. She will not give me a full refund because it is within the 60 day window even though this pandemic is unusual to say the least. So stay away from Rachael in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Her owner ID: *******
We have been told that we can not get a refund on our accommodation even though we have been advised not to travel due to current events. The owner is refusing to refund or even rebook for a later time. I am disgusted, in this opportunistic behaviour. As someone who works in the travel industry on a global scale, I will definitely be reaching out to colleges and different media sources about this!
They take advantage of the nation during hard times, without even offering to reach compromise. They are focused on short term gains rather than considering their long term repercussions.
Stayed at a Rental in Jensen Beach, FL in Jan 2020. Place had bed bugs and fleas. We took photos of the bugs, and also showed his maintenance man who stripped the house of all evidence before terminex got there the actual bugs in the pillows and vinyl covers. After requesting refunded he refused. Filed complaint with VRBO with photo evidence of bugs and bites, they believed home owner that no bugs existed and he treated for fleas. Now owner says story made up because he never saw photos, gladly would provide if he refunds remainder of stay. What a joke both VRBO and this rental are FRAUDS
All of our travels were cancelled do to things outside of our control due to the CoronaVirus and we were not given a full refund for our stay! Literally nothing we could do and Vrbo was no help in getting our money back. I only give this a 1 star because i can't do zero. Definitely using Airbnb or a different site next time.
We were going to figure skating worlds in Montreal. The province of Que cancelled the event.
Talked to the manager, he said no refund.
Never again. I didn't cancel it... fair would have been 50% back. So far? Nada. Don't stay at a vrbo.
I would give less than 1 star if possible.
Got stranded in Tampa after owner of property was a no show and did not provide access.
Vrbo Service was atrocious. Spent more than 7 hours on the phone over several days trying to resolve the issue.
No other homes available (with a washer-dryer) in our area. Offered us to go to Clearwater for an additional charge.
So we stayed in a hotel - 2 adults and 2 kids with two double beds in one room.
Do not recommend Vrbo.
We have been renting our home through the VRBO site for 3.5 years. I am extremely disappointed in their customer service. We came to them with a simple problem and they were unwilling to try and fix it, even with a supervisor involved. Airbnb on the other hand resolved the same problem effortlessly. We have had other glitches with VRBO in the past that were not resolved. Probably will not relist with them.it unfortunate that this BIG company doesn't seem to care about their customers.
I will never use this website to book a vacation rental again. After we booked our stay with a vacation rental in Bend Oregon we received an email breaking down the fees. Not only did we pay a fee to VRBO but the place where staying also charged us with booking fees, which they described as administrative fees and not just one but two. Then they taxed us three times. I don't understand why VRBO charge's the customer a fee, they are advertising for the rentals shouldn't they be paying VRBO not us?
AirBnB response to booking cancellations is far better as the corona virus concerns are disrupting travel. I will stay away from their attempts to garner business which is often available on AirBnB anyway. Poor attempt to work with customers especially during a health crisis.
VRBO is the WORST rental platform I've ever used. If you ever have any issues with the rental DO NOT EXPECT VRBO to assist you in ANY way. RENTERS BEWARE... DO NOT GO THROUGH VRBO!
VRBO has terrible customer service, even for property hosts. They penalize you for the most ridiculous things. They farm out the customer service call centers to third world countries, with a basic grasp of the English language, which is fine, but makes communication that much more difficult. The fees they charge to both travelers and hosts are exorbitant. The other World Famous vacation home rental business is MUCH better in all aspects: fees, customer service, etc. Don't use VRBO.
Vrbo does not care about the customers, only about making money. Had to pay for double accommodations, as Vrbo place was not liveable. There were health and safety issues with the place. We called Vrbo within 12 hours, per their website and have an email stating they will take care of our refund, if the property manager won't within 48 hours. Now Vrbo are stating we don't fall into fraudulent claim and therefore will not do anything and that we should sue the property owner. They even have let this property manager keep the place on the website for other people to rent. Even though they know the concerns we had, so others will end up falling into the same trap. I also wrote a review of the place and somehow it isn't on the reviews, the place has no reviews.
I had a property booked in AZ to take my daughter for her High School graduation gift. 2 weeks before the trip it was cancelled because it was evidently "double booked". The property had no reviews and when I asked VRBO about leaving a review they told me I couldn't because I didn't actually stay there. They claim I am getting a refund but it hasn't appeared in my account yet. Sounds like others have been scammed too so I highly recommend you use a reputable company.
Answer: There are many problems with listing with VRBO/HomeAway. The 1st is that it is the largest company of it's size. While that may mean that you get more exposure, you also have more competition for getting your listing seen. For example, your listing could be # 300 out of 2,000. Most people don't want to search that far to find what they want because they can usually find something else sooner. In order to get a higher listing, you must pay more. I pay the highest rates they have for my properties in TN # 191351, 189535, & 289723, i. E. over $1,500 each. Listing position is also based on a number of criteria which they mandate. We have no control over some of those criteria. For example, listing position is based on whether or not guests USE VRBO/HomeAway on line booking. Initially,. VRBO/HomeAway required that we OFFER on line booking in order to maximize our listing position, so I offered it. VRBO/HomeAway then changed their criteria & now guests must USE on line booking in order or my listing position drops. I have no control over whether or not they USE VRBO/HomeAway & I don't recommend it for several reasons (more on that if you're interested). Listing positions are also determined by the number & quality of reviews. Again, I have no control over whether or not someone writes a review nor how they rate a property. What may be a 5 Star for someone may only be a 3 Star for someone else, but I'm at their mercy to provide a review & to rate it well. There are many other factors that go into listing position. As I said, I try to maximize what I can & If I'm luck, my property will be listed around 50/200. I get much better response from FlipKey by TripAdvisor. As I mentioned, I pay VRBO/HomeAway over $1,500 for each property. I Pay FlipKey by TripAdvisor about $450/property for #'s 6588094, 2386143, & 3746421 & get much better results. The problem with FlipKey is that it's hard for someone to search for a specific property using the property #.
Answer: VRBO will not help anymore with anything. Homeaway bought them and there is no personal contact with owners anymore until they pay through the site. I don't know about negative reviews. Never see any. If there was a way to avoid VRBO and Someway I would do it; but they have the corner on the VACA rental market now.
Answer: I have the same problem. I don't think they have any.
Answer: Vrbo will NOT get involved in any way. They will not arbitrate on anyone's behalf. They are strictly an advertising website. Carefree travel insurance & all the other stuff is just to make renters feel more comfortable to rent. They hardly ever pay out if there is a real problem. You can sue in small claims court, in the city & state you rented in. The only defense you have is if you paid with a credit card to do a charge back, & even then its hard. You have to have documentation to prove you case. However, vrbo won't contest the chargeback if you can get your credit cad company to work with you. Best to leave a review that warns other renters to stay away. But vrbo approves the reviews before they are posted.
Answer: I have spoken with them so many times yesterday and today with no fix my problem. The number is 1-877-228-3145. I wish you better luck than I have had.
Answer: Absolutely nothing! Every change they make results in their making more money and owners making less. My bookings are down drastically. I would not sign up with VRBO.
Answer: Go with the standard listing if you have already paid. If not save your money and try homeescape.com. Homeaway/VRBO rolled out a new 9% service fee charged to your customers in addition to what you're already paying for. They did this without any warning to their customers. I found out after one of my repeat guests questioned the charge. I'm moving away from them and going with other options.
Answer: A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share
Answer: Try airbnb to rent part of your home
Answer: Same issue for us. The house we rented had glowing reviews and when I tried to post an honest review it still has not been posted.
VRBO provides vacation rental listings by owner in the US and around the world.
