The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, particularly regarding its customer service and reliability. Many users report frustrating experiences with delayed refunds, poor communication, and unhelpful support staff. Complaints about properties not matching descriptions or being in unacceptable conditions are prevalent, leading to a loss of trust. While a few customers express occasional satisfaction with specific transactions, the overwhelming sentiment leans towards a lack of accountability and professionalism. This has resulted in a growing number of users opting for alternative platforms, indicating a critical need for improvement in service quality and responsiveness.

They used the pandemic to profit off of ALL their customers. Ripping off their people renting and the property owners. As low as it get for an internet based company. We could not legally vacation. They literally took our money and blamed the property owner for not issuing a refund. The property owner was NEVER paid. We were NEVER refunded! They said file a claim with our insurance company (a third party owned by them with no phone number). NO luck there either. It is an unbelievable shell game by VRBO. Thousands of dollars up in smoke!
I booked the 9 days stay with VRBO. The owner of the property was so sweet and nice. But due to change of plan envisions Monterey Ca won't allow short stay, only 30+days. VRBO charged me my money 2 weeks ago due to change of rules it takes then to reimburse 3 to 4 weeks. But mean time I have to pay fees for that transaction. Do not deal with VRBO. Worst company ever.
Had reservation for middle of May in Clearwater - we're from Michigan with a stay at home order now until end of May. VBRO, real estate management (Belloise Realty) company/property refuse to refund our reservation. Offering up "pick another date". Useless to us since this was to be a family affair for an anniversary gathering of family and friends coming in from out of town of course which cannot happen. The response was "the property owner is struggling too" so no refund. My wife has been laid off now for 8 weeks, I'm retired very difficult for us to eat this loss but they didn't care. So we picked a date next spring figuring maybe we can donate the time to a family member... nope not available. Put us on a date that is TWO YEARS from now. Again, battled to get another date so now we have a similar time for next year which is really useless to us. It won't be used since we have a place to stay in Florida when we visit. This was to handle overflow of our special event. We will NEVER EVER use VBRO again. We've heard good things about B & B bending over backwards for their customers. Just to warn others the property is Clearwater Beach Suites handled by Belloise Realty.
I booked a vacation rental on VRBO. Got confirmation. 2 days later my reservation was canceled without reason. I called VRBO and was told I had to call the property management company which was Destin Getaway rental, they said they had a computer glitch, the price is now 3 time more than what I booked with. I called VRBO and was told it's against their booking law, and was advised to book the second one which was more expensive and promised for the reimbursement. I knew it right there, there will be problems with refund so I did ask multiple times " are you sure I'm going to receive my reimbursement?" And the agent told me "don't worry it's very easy, all you need to do is I'll send you the link you just fill out and that's it". I asked her many times "are you sure". Now VRBO refuses to pay the reimbursement stating that because I didn't pay for the first booking. They charged me the booking fee. I provided my credit card and was not my fault when they didn't charge the full amount. I had a confirmation for the booking. When I talked to VRBO agent, never once she asked or provide any information when I clearly doubled checked multiple time wether am I eligible for it. All phone calls were recorded so please go back and listen to it. This is my first time booking with VRBO, Why did she not ask or explain anything? Just simply pushing me to book the new one. If I knew it I would not book the more expensive one. This was the first and last with me. Highly do not recommend this website/business. Try to steal your money and not taking responsibility of what their agent did. They told me what the agent said is out of their control. Horrible experience, lost $600 after sick and tired of multiple phone calls and emails and fighting with them.
We could not travel to 500 E. Amado Rd. #317, Palm Springs because of Covid-19. This was a VRBO reservation. The owner offered us another time within the next year which did not work for us. He said he would only refund 50%. VRBO was no help either. So my wife and I are not working. We could not travel there BY LAW! The loss of this money is problematic. VRBO owners got Federal relief, so Steven is getting my tax $ and my personal $. DO NOT BOOK property #*******. DO NOT use VRBO.
We are very disappointed with VRBO's refund policy due to the worldwide pandemic known as Covid-19. We had a wedding scheduled for late March in La Quinta, CA, but it was cancelled because of the pandemic. We have requested a full refund, but have only received half of it to date and no correspondence from the owner David Spiegel after a 2nd attempt. Our other friends and family have received full refunds from their Airbnb rentals for the wedding. We also a received a full refund from the airlines. We will never rent from VRBO again. They are taking advantage of people in these unprecedented times and it is just not fair!
The house I reserved in Lake Havasu had a issue of some kind & the owner kicked me my money back but leave it up to vrbo it's going to take 4-6 weeks after speaking to a supervisor and then showing no remorse it was kinda an "Owell" response. According to the site it may take 5-7 days but people I've spoken to says that's not even true. Seeing how I need a home for my vacation for may 22nd and it's currently may 4th this is a huge inconvenience and no one seems to want to help in any kinda way.
I'll never use this service again. They don't honor the stay in place policy. I'm 70 cancel my rental because of stay at home policy and lost my deposit.
After making a Payment for a relaxing vacation, my reservation was cancelled. More like concealed from consumers such as myself, Almost instantly I received an email from VRBO saying it would take 3 to 4 weeks for my refund. How is it that it takes a millisecond to remove our funds but a millenium to be refunded, Definitely need to be brought to the attention of Government,
I had a house booked for a girls weekend with my family but due to COVID we cannot go. I have been messaging my host for over a month and they have ignored all three of my messages about a full refund, (I still have two days left on the contract to get a full refund). Vrbo website is useless, no people on the online chat to help..
We had a reservation with a home owner in Siesta Key (Debbie) property ID *******. We tried to message her and call, when COVID19 broke out and travel was banned, however she NEVER answered us. Prior to that we had no trouble reaching her. We were told by VRBO that we can discuss either credit or refund with the owner, however, she would not answer our repeated attempts. Ultimately we ended up cancelling even though we would have taken a credit. VRBO credited our taxes and fees however they would not demand our homeowner to return our calls or refund us money! VRBO allowed this person to STEAL our money! I will never use VRBO again. Please note I would give no stars if possible.
I will never rent thru VRBO or Vacasa ever again. My flights were canceled due to covid 19. After fighting with Vacasa for over 30 days because VRBO would not assist in getting us refunded. Vacasa refunded us 50%. So I'm out over $500. Customer service is horrible. Do not book thru this company! They are money hungry and don't care about their customers. They won't even post my review on their website. They rejected it saying I never stayed there so I can't review it. Disgusting!.
Was trying to book a house the web site started to process debit card and then got a message that the home was unavailable for the time requested. So I found another home it was available booked it and in the morning I had two reservation and my bank account had been hit for almost $2900.So I tried VBRO chat and waited 20 minutes for an agent then called the 800 number and they cancelled my reservation and then told me it would a minimum of four weeks before I could get my deposit back, because of the CoronaVirus. Didn't think that COVID 19 affected computers.
We had to cancel our trip due to a Covid quarantine imposed four days before our vacation was to begin. The host refused to cancel our reservation and kept 100% of our payment, including the cleaning fee. In a polite exchange of messages, I repeatedly asked her to cancel our reservation and tried to explain VRBO's recommendation for Covid-related cancelations. After two weeks, mid-conversation, the host abruptly quit replying to me. VRBO apologized for this and refunded our VRBO service fee, but beyond that, VRBO has been unhelpful and frustrating.
I have spent hours on VRBO chats trying to report our negative experience with this host. Apparently, there's no way for a guest to review a VRBO host if the guest has not actually stayed at the property. VRBO may look into this case and may some day remove this listing from their website, but as of today, six weeks after our missed trip, this listing is still advertised on VRBO with zero reviews. Future guests may book with this host, not knowing how poorly she treated us. VRBO should enable guests and hosts to review each other's interactions outside of the actual home stay, if circumstances warrant such a review.
VRBO rental venue protects more the money making property owners over the protection of the renters.
We stayed at a property in Nicaragua and the property owner ripped us off. VRBO can do nothing for us when their clients rip off their customers I will not be booking through VRBO again
I have unfortunately had to cancel two reservation in the last couple of months because of the Covid-19. I am a front-line health care worker and have been restricted as to my ability to travel more than most. My first trip was canceled in early March due to an outbreak in the Mountains. Then host was very kind and gave me a full refund just one week prior to my scheduled trip. If I had gone I would have lost two weeks of pay due to forced quarantine.
The next reservation had to be canceled because my summer vacation has been removed due expected increase case load during the summer. Again the host has given a full refund.
I have always had great experiences with VRBO but their hosts have gone above and beyond in this crisis.
Thank you.
Many of our travel plans are being negatively affected by the pandemic. The wedding I was supposed to attend on the east coast (I live on the west coast) in early June was cancelled and my city is still under restrictions. The property owner is refusing to refund my money unless they are able to rent the home for that time. If they can't then I will lose over $2000 due to circumstances out of my control, and that is only covered by travel insurance if I am diagnosed with COVID-19. I will not be booking through VRBO again, I am severely disappointed and very upset about losing my vacation funds for the year.
Wanted to postpone our vacation due to Covid virus. Management Company - Orlando Holiday Rental Homes would not even allow us to change our dates. We didn't even ask for refund just a credit. VRBO also did nothing to help. I am more disgusted at Orlando Holiday Rental Homes than VRBO but had I gone with AirBnB, this may not have happened. They just lost a good customer! So sad that just about everyone else in the travel industry is stepping up and issuing credits and refunds. Shame on Orlando Holiday Rental Homes and Shame on VRBO.
Gotten stung last two times I used VRBO. The property owner has all of the protection, you have none. Should have stayed with Groupon. I
Answer: There are many problems with listing with VRBO/HomeAway. The 1st is that it is the largest company of it's size. While that may mean that you get more exposure, you also have more competition for getting your listing seen. For example, your listing could be # 300 out of 2,000. Most people don't want to search that far to find what they want because they can usually find something else sooner. In order to get a higher listing, you must pay more. I pay the highest rates they have for my properties in TN # 191351, 189535, & 289723, i. E. over $1,500 each. Listing position is also based on a number of criteria which they mandate. We have no control over some of those criteria. For example, listing position is based on whether or not guests USE VRBO/HomeAway on line booking. Initially,. VRBO/HomeAway required that we OFFER on line booking in order to maximize our listing position, so I offered it. VRBO/HomeAway then changed their criteria & now guests must USE on line booking in order or my listing position drops. I have no control over whether or not they USE VRBO/HomeAway & I don't recommend it for several reasons (more on that if you're interested). Listing positions are also determined by the number & quality of reviews. Again, I have no control over whether or not someone writes a review nor how they rate a property. What may be a 5 Star for someone may only be a 3 Star for someone else, but I'm at their mercy to provide a review & to rate it well. There are many other factors that go into listing position. As I said, I try to maximize what I can & If I'm luck, my property will be listed around 50/200. I get much better response from FlipKey by TripAdvisor. As I mentioned, I pay VRBO/HomeAway over $1,500 for each property. I Pay FlipKey by TripAdvisor about $450/property for #'s 6588094, 2386143, & 3746421 & get much better results. The problem with FlipKey is that it's hard for someone to search for a specific property using the property #.
Answer: VRBO will not help anymore with anything. Homeaway bought them and there is no personal contact with owners anymore until they pay through the site. I don't know about negative reviews. Never see any. If there was a way to avoid VRBO and Someway I would do it; but they have the corner on the VACA rental market now.
Answer: I have the same problem. I don't think they have any.
Answer: Vrbo will NOT get involved in any way. They will not arbitrate on anyone's behalf. They are strictly an advertising website. Carefree travel insurance & all the other stuff is just to make renters feel more comfortable to rent. They hardly ever pay out if there is a real problem. You can sue in small claims court, in the city & state you rented in. The only defense you have is if you paid with a credit card to do a charge back, & even then its hard. You have to have documentation to prove you case. However, vrbo won't contest the chargeback if you can get your credit cad company to work with you. Best to leave a review that warns other renters to stay away. But vrbo approves the reviews before they are posted.
Answer: I have spoken with them so many times yesterday and today with no fix my problem. The number is 1-877-228-3145. I wish you better luck than I have had.
Answer: Absolutely nothing! Every change they make results in their making more money and owners making less. My bookings are down drastically. I would not sign up with VRBO.
Answer: Go with the standard listing if you have already paid. If not save your money and try homeescape.com. Homeaway/VRBO rolled out a new 9% service fee charged to your customers in addition to what you're already paying for. They did this without any warning to their customers. I found out after one of my repeat guests questioned the charge. I'm moving away from them and going with other options.
Answer: A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share
Answer: Try airbnb to rent part of your home
Answer: Same issue for us. The house we rented had glowing reviews and when I tried to post an honest review it still has not been posted.
VRBO provides vacation rental listings by owner in the US and around the world.
