Filthy property, Bird crap everywhere and vomit in the pool. No one came to remove the vomit or treat the water. I almost vomited when I saw someone swim right into it. The utter lack of customer service and blatant discrimination is sickening. Booked via Expedia who forwarded the booking to VRBO who Did Absolutely Nothing to help. Sent my requests to the people behaving like animals. Here's my show and tell of "Pictures of My Summer Vacation"
Rented a property in Waikiki and were delighted to find black mold in the unit all over the bathroom ceilings. Neither Vrbo or the property manager made it right. Beware! Had to stay at the Marriot. Glad we did although lodging cost us double having to pay for two properties.
Paid over $1000/ day for a 5 bedroom place on the beach. It was filthy. Called and they gave me the code for the cleaning supplies. Cleaned the place so we could occupy it. Supposed to get a credit, but no. Nothing showed up and the bank says there was no credit to the account. Probably went to Kathleen's account - big surprise!
In fact they charged us more for bringing the issue up. VRBO sucks as does Kathleen Ford, Adrian Purdy and that filthy happy clam bull$#*! rental
In the post visit email for a review I wrote
" Place was great and everything was as promised. Very expensive though for a short stay, lots of fees racked up the cost. Also the trash rules were weird. Not sure why there is a $250 fee for cleaning if we have to clean up ourselves"
The review was rejected because I quoted prices and I was not allowed to edit even though they asked me too. It was beyond 14 days of arrival. They still send me emails to review.
VRBO is just a platform for private home owners to reach potential short term renters. Their fee is outrageous but they do nothing beyond host he platform. The system is rigged for the host. Customer service depends on the host. Our experience was terrible. And there isn't anything we can do. We will never use this site again!
Money was taken from my account as soon as I hit send. The owner set me a message within a minute he was cancelling. Both have told me my refund is the other job. $558 threw out the window because the owner did not contact them it was unavailable. No one has tried to make this situation right.
In April of 22, I rented a place for the entire month of January in 23. I have 10 family members with booked airline tickets coming January 2. The week before Thanksgiving, I got a cancellation notice without explanation from the owner. VRBO did nothing. It appears the owner was incompetent and double booked the unit. There is no recourse or protection from VRBO. So while I would have lost half of my fee as of November 1 if I cancelled, there is no penalty for a owner to cancel up to the day of rental, without explanation. So we rented another place, at twice the price given that it was so close to the date we wanted and found one more unsettling fact. The house we rented is listed with a realtor! It could potentially sell, and they are under no obligation to fulfill the agreement. There has to be a better way, VRBO makes a huge fee for doing nothing.
Use a local vacation rental company as opposed to this one. Owners can change the price of what you search for/find at the time of your booking request. VRBO's response is "... we encourage owners to keep pricing updated, so that the right price is shown." Yeah, sure. See Photo of what we booked at - the owner turned around and said the price was actually $1,500 more!
VRBO convinced me to send money to an outside "managing agent" who represents a property I booked for my Christmas holiday in Cape Town on VRBO. It turns out that the managing agent "southern seclusions" run by Marco Manaman is a fake front capturing unsuspecting travelers. I only was able to figure this out because of the run around I was being given and my brother who kept trying to visit the property. VRBO lied to me saying they had vetted this company. It also refused to refund me my deposit to the managing agent even though they repeatedly told me I was safe to send money to this outside bank account… my bank eventually got me my money back but this has left a very negative experience of this company. I went through Airbnb and had a much better experience. Related to the fact that they only release funds to the managing agent or host once the vacationer has approved the legitimacy of the rental in person!
We rented a pet friendly property through Vrbo for a family vacation. When we arrived we found the place to be filthy and the floors were covered with dead millipedes. We also found BLOOD on multiple pillows. Needless to say we stayed less than an hour, provided picture proof and were told "don't be disappointed if you don't get a full refund." Vrbo is a JOKE. Do NOT rent through them.
Our reservation was cancelled 2 days before our flight to Florida. We scrambled and luckily found another place to stay. We got no help from VRBO. They are not a very reputable company and not offering any solutions. Be aware! Before using them
I had a reservation with vrbo in Montreal. The day before my trip, the owner contacted me to tell me one of the washrooms is out of order. It was too late to cancel as my vacation was booked and trip plans already made. I had to text, email and call the owner many times to get the check in code, he gave me the wrong code. After arrival at 10 at night, had to call him 15 times to get a hold of him to get the correct code. Once got into the house, it was infested with bugs. One wash room had human waste on toilet paper. I always used Airbnb, but unfortunately, I trusted Expedia name because they own vrbo. I will never use vrbo again.
VRBO certainly isn't in the business of helping customers who have awful experiences. Many phone calls, many emails, no resolution. VRBO wants me to work with the owner. Unfortunately, the owner won't respond to any calls or emails. VRBO claims I didn't call within 24 hours of arrival, which is a complete lie. I have the call log on my cell phone. I called within 2 hours of arrival. They just don't want to take any responsibility. I will never use VRBO again and will actively steer others away from them.
We booked a ski chalet solely due to the 100% money back guarantee if cancelled by a certain date ( we cancelled a few days prior to the deadline) France had closed its borders to the UK so we were unable to travel. We were then told that we could only receive a voucher or re-book as no refund 30 days before trip. I have it in writing that they offered 100% money back guarantee. Will have to go down the small claims court route.
Booked and paid for a holiday back in June only to have it cancelled by the host on 21/12/2021.
I accept the cancellation in not the fault of VRBO, however, despite their booking promise stating my service fee will automatically be refunded in 5 days- I have received none 10 days later.
The host has returned their part but VRBO cling on to theirs- they are impossible to contact by phone and have no online system of contact.
Although the fee is not a great deal of money £51.60, it is not theirs to keep.
I have other breaks booked with VRBO- I will take these but never book again
Property *******, P/A Texas, 9/14-9/19, mgr. Life in Paradise: YOU cannot write a negative review on this manager or property because they are part of the IPM and review all reviews (in other words anything negative does not get published), the listing price $830 per nite actual price over $1,200.00 with hot tub and cart BUT to get the 'hot' tub that is extra and the cart you must travel several miles and release the managing co. (LIP). I paid $295.00 for cleaning yet if you use the grill there is the potential of an additional charge for cleaning and if the trash is not disposed of an additional charge (now what are the trash cans for and what is my $295.00 for) the place was dirty, my wife's feet were black after walking on their floors, this management co is evasive in their answers and lied to us, this pics are deceptive it is not a house but small rooms stack on top of each other, This is and was a rip off deluxe.
We as the homeowners feel your pain! I have listed through VRBO for seven years and I'm now looking for a new online site to list my property. Corporate greed! They were bought out by Expedia in December 2015
Space was very clean and well-organized but VERY small. Headroom was lacking... a real problem for males standing at toilet. Also, we could occasionally smell propane when bedroom window over bed was open. It was difficult to have true privacy, due to owners" home right next door, close to deck. Driving past Mystery Spot attraction, on same road, can be challenging. Considering owner rents out much larger ( with full kitchen and table), bottom space for $125, Love Shack was not worth $110.
I've read hundreds of complaints about VRBO and their BS changes they continue to make. I agree with them all, but $#*!ing doesn't correct the situation. When is someone going to file a civil suit against these bastards? Teach me how and I'll be the first to start it.
They has recently started skimming 10% off the top of every travellers booking-and providing nothing in return. Many people simply can't afford the VRBO tax and can no longer go on vacation. Sleazy company's avoid them like the plague.
Answer: There are many problems with listing with VRBO/HomeAway. The 1st is that it is the largest company of it's size. While that may mean that you get more exposure, you also have more competition for getting your listing seen. For example, your listing could be # 300 out of 2,000. Most people don't want to search that far to find what they want because they can usually find something else sooner. In order to get a higher listing, you must pay more. I pay the highest rates they have for my properties in TN # 191351, 189535, & 289723, i. E. over $1,500 each. Listing position is also based on a number of criteria which they mandate. We have no control over some of those criteria. For example, listing position is based on whether or not guests USE VRBO/HomeAway on line booking. Initially,. VRBO/HomeAway required that we OFFER on line booking in order to maximize our listing position, so I offered it. VRBO/HomeAway then changed their criteria & now guests must USE on line booking in order or my listing position drops. I have no control over whether or not they USE VRBO/HomeAway & I don't recommend it for several reasons (more on that if you're interested). Listing positions are also determined by the number & quality of reviews. Again, I have no control over whether or not someone writes a review nor how they rate a property. What may be a 5 Star for someone may only be a 3 Star for someone else, but I'm at their mercy to provide a review & to rate it well. There are many other factors that go into listing position. As I said, I try to maximize what I can & If I'm luck, my property will be listed around 50/200. I get much better response from FlipKey by TripAdvisor. As I mentioned, I pay VRBO/HomeAway over $1,500 for each property. I Pay FlipKey by TripAdvisor about $450/property for #'s 6588094, 2386143, & 3746421 & get much better results. The problem with FlipKey is that it's hard for someone to search for a specific property using the property #.
Answer: VRBO will not help anymore with anything. Homeaway bought them and there is no personal contact with owners anymore until they pay through the site. I don't know about negative reviews. Never see any. If there was a way to avoid VRBO and Someway I would do it; but they have the corner on the VACA rental market now.
Answer: I have the same problem. I don't think they have any.
Answer: Vrbo will NOT get involved in any way. They will not arbitrate on anyone's behalf. They are strictly an advertising website. Carefree travel insurance & all the other stuff is just to make renters feel more comfortable to rent. They hardly ever pay out if there is a real problem. You can sue in small claims court, in the city & state you rented in. The only defense you have is if you paid with a credit card to do a charge back, & even then its hard. You have to have documentation to prove you case. However, vrbo won't contest the chargeback if you can get your credit cad company to work with you. Best to leave a review that warns other renters to stay away. But vrbo approves the reviews before they are posted.
Answer: I have spoken with them so many times yesterday and today with no fix my problem. The number is 1-877-228-3145. I wish you better luck than I have had.
Answer: Absolutely nothing! Every change they make results in their making more money and owners making less. My bookings are down drastically. I would not sign up with VRBO.
Answer: Go with the standard listing if you have already paid. If not save your money and try homeescape.com. Homeaway/VRBO rolled out a new 9% service fee charged to your customers in addition to what you're already paying for. They did this without any warning to their customers. I found out after one of my repeat guests questioned the charge. I'm moving away from them and going with other options.
Answer: A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share
Answer: Try airbnb to rent part of your home
Answer: Same issue for us. The house we rented had glowing reviews and when I tried to post an honest review it still has not been posted.
VRBO has a rating of 1.4 stars from 2,000 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with VRBO most frequently mention customer service, credit card and property owner. VRBO ranks 153rd among Vacation Rentals sites.
