Just awful.
September 3, 2025

Just awful. Every time I try paying my lawn guy, Venmo won't process the charge or gives the completely unhelpful response of "Something went wrong and we couldn't complete this payment. Try again another time." After waiting for an hour for phone support PayPal/Venmo says there's nothing they can do, that I should try another bank account or debit card.

I never imagined I'd fall for a scam like this, but here I am — out thousands and feeling lost. They promised huge returns, showed me numbers that looked real, and then vanished with my pension. Reporting to the police was just the first step. It wasn't until I reached out to a small recovery service — something like U[dot]io — that I got my money back. It's been a tough lesson, but if sharing this saves even one person, it's worth it. Stay sharp and don't let the promise of easy money fool you.

Racketeering
June 5, 2025

On May 31st I placed an order for an item through Venmo via Paypal that was paid in full according to my receipt and emails. However, the next day I received an email from Venmo stating that I didn't have enough money on my card which was a lie and that they had to front me $11.36 on the rest of the bill (lie as well) and that as of now my account had been frozen. I proceeded to call Venmo to get clarity because this is the second time they had done this and of course they put me on a long hold then finally came back with a bogus reason. I then told the representative that this was the second time they have done this and that I have the receipts and emails to prove that they are trying to strong arm me out of my money and I refuse to pay them again. The representative then began his gaslighting script to which I then told him I would be checking on this further and if I found out they have some sort of racketeering scam going on with PayPal I will be filing a complaint. I am side eyeing PayPal as well because their service has begun to tank. Also, Venmo you can save your little general response apology because It's not authentic.

I was scammed out of 300.00 on Venmo. I hired an appliance repair company, who charged me 300.00 on venmo, did not fix anything and was falsely advertising as another company.
I started the venmo "dispute" process and a day later, received an email stating that there was nothing they could or would do to get my money back. They told me to contact the business. Obviously, a fraudulent business is not going to return my money.
My bank wouldn't do anything but instead referred me.to Venmo!
I don't know why Venmo claims to have a dispute policy. Anybody who uses Venmo, with the belief that there is any kind of recourse, is out of luck. I have read other consumers' complaints about the Venmo "resolution" process. Like Zelle, Venmo is just another app for criminals to use to take advantage of people.

Impossible company to work with.
Want to add money to Venmo so you can pay people? Nope. I have a verified account that's funded over $10k at Venmo but it continually gets flagged and no one can manually override the hold. They just tell me to wait 72 hours and it'll be ok. That just isn't true. Now some bills are late because I can't pay via Venmo.
Want to buy crypto? Nope...no funding of your account means they won't let you buy anything. Looking at making some money on the dip in Bitcoin? Tough.
Want to transfer your Bitcoin OUT of Venmo? Nope. They'll put a hold while they review your identity, and only escalate if you call them first. Otherwise it just sits in limbo.
Oh by the way, if you do want to transfer your crypto out of Venmo, they'll put limits on that and say you have reached your weekly limit...even if you've done NOTHING with your venmo cash/crypto that week. Want to know what that hold was put on for? Nah. Want to know when it will be lifted? Nah.
Oh...and they'll charge you a fee.

Trash company.

Don't USE THIS APP
December 24, 2024

This is the worst app to use for sending and or receiving funds. The customer service sucks and the application is dated and not good at all. By far the worst decision I made in the entire year was to use this app!

Venmo is TRASH!

Venmo is a haven for scammers and they will not reverse payments for products or services not received. They said you need to purchase additional purchase protection. I did not know this and would recommend using your bank for transfers such as Zelle.

Thieves.
My, my husband's, and my son's accounts were all frozen. They were trying to set up accounts and immediately got frozen out. I was frozen out after trying to buy crypto. After two weeks, I finally got in, but they are rejecting all attempts to transfer money into Venmo from a bank account I've already used!
This morning, I find that they have frozen my account and won't release any of the money. They are stating that it will be 10-15 DAYS before they contact me.

So anytime they feel like it, they just steal money from you. Tried to call customer service and got a braindead operator that sounded like she was talking into a tin can with a string running from the back of it. Got nowhere and eventually the call dropped. Just another worthless American Corporation. Do yourself a favor and use a different vendor for the services that Venmo provides.

Was helping out a relative with a few dollars to get them til payday, no problem there, used venmo. I stay on top of my spam filtering with my email account, and rarely if ever use the account for much. As soon as the transaction was processed, I received multiple spam emails from just a few supposed legitimate companies. Coincidence, I think not.

I recently had displeasure of working with Venmo over a charge dispute, unfortunately after unsuccessfully disputing the charges venmo kept allowing the vendor to charge my account monthly so I closed my account with venmo

I wanted to get a cash advance from my Venmo visa. I had to call customer service and create a pin first. Went to an atm and was declined. Went to another bank, declined. Called customer service back and they said to try it now that it was blocked. Tried it again, blocked. 7 calls to customer service in India and nothing was done. I spent literally 3 hours between calls and driving to different banks due to an emergency.
The last person I spoke to, who was rude, told me that specific banks only accept Venmo credit cards. Found out it's any atm that accepts visa. I am paying the card off and I'm done with Venmo for good!

Customer service
November 17, 2023

If I could leave a negative star review I would. They have frozen my account for no reason. I provided them with all the information they asked for and they do not email me back with any updates or solutions. I called the customer service number to get help Andy they tell me it will take 7 to 10 business days to unfreeze my account. I would not recommend that you use venmo. There customer service will not help you with this issue and they only help through email. I have not received a email with updates or answers to my issue. This company does not know how to help their customers.

I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone. They permanently suspended my account stating that my activities violated their user agreement, when the only activity I had on there was receiving money 3 times from friends, with 2 of those times being the same person, then transferring that money to my bank account, which according to the user agreement, I have every right to do so. When I contacted them to get more information about this situation, I wasn't really given an explanation.

Venmo charges you for instant transfer. Zelle is 100% better and free. If you prefer to give money away, use VENMO.

Unsafe platform
September 11, 2023

Constant bombardment of "someone is trying to access your account" WTF? Don't they have ANY safeguards on the front end of their service? How are hackers getting to my actual account? Takes me 5 minutes to get to my account page with two factor authorization.
Transfers take 3-5 days, unless you transfer with a debit card... same account, why the difference.
Lame service, no actual support reps and feels completely unsafe.

Worst customer service!
September 8, 2023

Mediocre taking care of customers! Worst service I have ever seen. Took over 45 days to be able to transfer $1887 to my bank account. Over 50 emails and 15 calls with customer service. I will not be surprised if Venmo run out of business in 2 years.

Poor IT structure
August 30, 2023

When not being able to make a payment, after three phone calls, two days in a row, totally over 2 hours and finally getting a supervisor to address why I could not make a payment to someone, I am told it's the system and he really has no reason why! When asking what to do after trying deleting my bank info and reloading, trying different amounts, etc, I am told for the second day in a row to wait 24 hours and try again. When asked it this will resolve the problem, I am told it's "pot luck" if it will work, blaming on the system! When ask for another solution or someone higher to talk to, to both I am told no. Pot Luck! Is this any way for a banking service to work?
