This review is particularly for their "Tester Support." Apparently their Tester Support is still in the idea phase, because they seem to not have any. On their website and when you call them it says they provide Tester Support exclusively online at *******@usertesting.com
I have been a tester now going on 2 months, I have never gotten a response from them. Between using the Contact Us support ticket feature on their website, sending emails directly to the email listed for support and using the "Report A Problem" feature on my mobile phone when a tests has a issue, I would say I have sent at least 20 emails since I started back in May, 2020. Over that 2 month span I have gotten no responses. I have their email added to my email address book so I know its not going to spam, they are just not responding.
The latest issue is not affecting my directly financially. Over the past week I have had 7 mobile tests not load. 7 in a row. I pass the screeners and as it is accessing the test it gives me a error message saying its not available. For it to be 7 in a row and only happen when im on mobile it has to be a issue on their end. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and the app has all permissions. That's $70 now that im not getting. After making over $500 in my 1st month I was looking forward to continuing but now this is happening and I already know I can not count on their "Tester Support Team" to fix the issue.
I was really excited to make a bit of profit,(let me note how you wouldn't get many tests if you're not from the US)
I did my first test, they said I did the option as I work in healthcare when in reality I'm just a med student, I'm sure I didn't just press that when there's an option to click "full-time student", in my test there was a task "to pretend I work in the healthcare field" i did so and thought it all went well, next thing I know I got a 1 start because allegedly i lied when in reality I'm 100% sure I didn't lie about my profile, they said the answers didn't match blah blah and that they asked for a refund because of what I did, I couldn't even find more answers and ask them for a second chance, they deactivated my account and banned me from making another one.
I'm really upset as I didn't intend in violating their terms, I wish I was more careful I want to take the blame but they shoved it in my face in the meanest way ever,
I've been a tester for over a year now, I work hard at it and take pride in it. I have loved doing this, I have referred friends and family to it, being I did so well. Well... My husband signed up and tried it. He works a lot so he isn't on very often, yet we use the same computer and sometimes if one of our phones is dying we will sign into the others to take tests. So, in human error, I may have accidentally taken a test while logged into my husbands account (unknowingly), I keep usertesting open at all times. So Now they think I have been defrauding them and that I have two accounts so they deactivated both accounts, without even a hesitation or question and will not respond to learn the truth. Instead the are backlogged with issues. So they can't respond. If you can't do your job neither can we. We are human and if you would listen, you would know the truth. BUCK UP AND RESPOND TO ME! I pride myself on integrity and honesty. It is sad when the company who provides a service to other companies, doesn't care enough about their own or those who do the work for them, to respond and help and listen and actually care. WOW! WAY TO GO USERTESTING, you have a social responsibility and seem to know care.
I cannot believe I used to love work for them, I got about 1-2 tests daily and usually I get around 50 per week doing tests after work or during break time. I have 4.9 average score, and it was all good. After about a year, about last week, they suddenly stopped payment for few days, all pending. Then they posted "payment fixed, payment all processing", so I went online to check my pending payment. It showed 0, which I didn't think is right, because I should have about 50 pending even after payments. I got into my completed tests, they gave me 1 star on one of the test, saying they think I was using multiple accounts, which is totally bull$#*!. And voided all those pending payment I had. I bet they still charged their clients for those and used my "intellectual property", without paying me. What a joke. Just be careful, unless you have a unique voice, otherwise one day they will bs about what you did and just not pay you anymore. Totally bs.
Also, the android app has problem, sometimes you spent 15~20mins on the test, the recorder just quits, or it freeze, or even after you spent half an hour doing the test, it will not upload. I once tried 2hours to upload a 15mins test, and no luck. Reported it and they never really came up with any solution.
I managed to complete my second test and then recieved a bunch of screeners, the next day I refreshed the page and then nothing! No more tests and no response, no explanation.
Alright, so I've been a tester for 2-3 years now. I've only recently been leaving it open all day and taking lots of tests. I don't know how much longer I'll continue- for the exact reasons everyone has listed... it's game over once you get a few 1 stars, taking your payments, and rarely qualifying for tests. Lately I've been laughing- some of the test qualifications will ask something like 'Do you work in Protein Research, Bio-scientist, Physicist, etc?" LOL! I can promise you anyone in a high paying STEM career isn't going to be taking online tests for $10. Lots of these tests want big baller professionals. Your best bet is to give your best guesses on the qualifications. But let's be clear- get used to seeing 'Sorry, unfortunately you did not qualify."
Next topic- besides not qualifying, it's only a matter of time before your one stars and payment rejection begin piling up. I'm a good tester and thoroughly spend time going over their entire site, always give them 15-20+ minutes. I've gotten 3 one star ratings for petty reasons and 2 payment rejections.
That's almost like slavery and blind robbery. You DO NOT take 20 minutes of my time for free. As independent contractors, we will always get the boot, as a contractor the company values the client over you any day! These clients do not give a rat's a** about rating 1 star and stealing payment for any dumb reason... they are probably sitting in a cushy office in another reality from us stay at home moms, disabled barely getting by, and unemployed people just trying to earn a few bucks on the internet.
I also was told I would receive a bonus for certain longer tests that take over 25 minutes, these tests indicated that. Think I ever saw one bonus? Nope!
Last thing - usertesting customer service takes quite awhile to respond to emails. Sometimes it's next day, but usually 3-6 days.
Did not want this to be a rant, but taking our payment based on client's petty opinion is very wrong. If they feel the need to ruin the tester's ability to ever get tests by rating 1 star, so be it, but usertesting should not allow payment reversal.
Great payment in less then a week the only thing that sucks is waiting on surveys and i cant seem to get help getting the app
You will get qualified probably 1 out of 75 times. I guess its cool if you wanna make an extra 5$ here and there...
I have been using this website for years now. Overall it is quite decent and you can make fair amount in long term. However, their customer service is the worst. While updating my email for my profile, I accidentally mistyped it and ended up missing one letter. At one point I was trying to also reset my password and that's when I realized that the email was wrong. I contacted support team to see if it's possible to correct my email or remove my profile fully and create a new one, as I didn't want to keep a profile that has an incorrect (and might even belonging to a stranger) email. I did not get a respond. Meanwhile my laptop logged me out of my profile, and I had no access to my account at all. And again I couldn't reset my password as the verification letter kept getting sent to that incorrect email. That's when I decided to create a new account hoping the support team will respond and remove my original account with
The incorrect email. Instead they deactivated my accounts stating in the TOS were violated. I understand I clearly states in their terms. But I absolutely had no intent for that. I appealed their decision but they refused to change it. They decisioning is not understandable for me. I have used the website for years without a single violation, why would I intentionally violate their terms. And I provided all the proof supporting my innocence. Losing quality testers because of unintentional mistake is not a good quality for any business.
I've been working with User Testing for about 1 1/2 years now and I really appreciate the ability to earn a little extra money per week for just a few hours of my time 5 days a week. I average about $100-$160 per week and again I typically spend about 2-3 hours 5 days a week doing the tests. This is not a part time job or a side gig that is going to pay all of your bills but the $400-$500 I typically make in a month is at least enough to pay a few small bills or part of a large one. It's all helpful. There are some cons and those would be the occasional technical difficulties but usually if they can see you've spent time on a project and the site crashed they will compensate you at least half of the agreed pay. I've always received great customer service when I've needed to contact them. The other con is there are days I will be lucky to qualify for even 1 test when I'd like to do more but other days I may qualify for several so I try to work a bit longer on those days to make up for the short days. Again, you won't get rich or be able to quit your job but if you are looking for a way to make a little extra pocket money and don't mind investing a few hours a day when you can they always pay the agreed upon amount. You have the opportunity to qualify for both moderated (speaking live with a company while reviewing their prototypes in real time and those typically pay $30-$90 per test) and non-moderated tests (which typically pay $10 per test). I prefer to only do the non-moderated projects and still manage to make at least $100 per week. Again, if you go into it accepting it for what it is (a way to make a little extra money per week, not a part time job that will pay a lot of your bills) I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Waste of time. Signed up to be a tester. SPENT 4 hours trying to get a TEST to make $10. SCAM SCAM
I think they are gathering data from me vs offering me a test
Why does it matter that I work in a company with less than 50 employees? How on earth is that going to effect any feedback I give for a site in development. A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME
On the offset I did not think I'd like UserTesting. They made me take a test that really tested if I fit into their profile of panelist's versus being honest. I flew through the test and did really well there; however, I noticed that after I started doing well, I was unable to lock into higher paying projects. Simply put, the site's interface would not work when I'd select and already be approved for these gigs.) I knew they were locking me out through the mechanics of the interface, but I believe in myself (so I did n't stop). (While this occurred the jobs I got were low paying and discriminatory. The gigs made me record my face and submit information that would showcase personal information to allow them to target me through racism.) After trying to reach out to support with no response or even being allowed to speak to management, I had to figure out a way to rectify what was occurring on my own. Unfortunately this put me in a situation where my integrity was questioned. Ultimately the decline occurred because the algorithms or designers within the UserTesting interface tried to stop me from communicating and ultimately succeeding on the site. The reasons: racism & jealousy. I'd cleared much more money than any one I'd seen on the interface. The most disturbing part was how they tried to shut me up, which they were unable. I'm now getting more money, but know that Usertesting is heavily racist and controlling (they monitor the interface to see who is doing what). If you start doing too well you cannot be of a certain demographics. Ultimately they will be stopped, but know the manner in which they now move.
I was optimistic about it at first, but now it just look like a big Scam. Watch out people! It is not safe.
Look, they give you tests based on ratings... the better rating the more tests you get... heres the issue... the very first test they give you is them testing you NOT a client. I was brand new so I didnt relize their strict instructions, the video was supposed to be 5 minutes, mine was 5 minutes and 30 seconds, so they gave me 4 stars and said the video should have not been over 5 minutes... Youd think companys would be happy with more feedback about their sites. Certainly not a reason for a bad rating. So my overall rating became 4 stars... I thought... hey itll go up over time. NOPE... because all other tests ive done the companys NEVER rate.,... not even once have i gotten any rating at all. No rating no feedback... BUT because user testing decided to give me 4 stars for doing more then what they asked for i'm now stuck with this rating... and that means their system de-prioritize me from getting tests over 5 star users... the rating system is trash! And then the tests they give me for i don't qualify for... why did they ask me so many qustions only to provide me tests i cant even do. Stay Away
Ive been doing testing for them for years. In the beginning it was great. I would qualify for many tests and the client would give me high marks for my detailed testing. Then the problems began. Clients and even User Testing would find any way they could to decline payment. Id go through the recorded video with User Testing and show them I did exactly what was requested. They would then pay out the fee for my work. Kind of like an insurance company. Deny the claim and maybe deny the appeal.
Then there was a lull where I would get no tests at all. I wrote to them and they told me to keep waiting for tests. I just stopped looking at that point because I figured there were too many testers and not enough work. Then the test requests started rolling in again about a year ago. I never qualified for any tests. What I think User Testing is doing (or their clients) is to phrase the qualification / survey in such a way that they get the information they need without you actually having to take a test. Think of the questions as free marketing research. For example, you get questions like what is your income, what is your age, what auto insurance do you use, what brands do you use?
Now its even worse, if thats even possible. I am hit with a ton of test requests. They still gather the data for marketing research purposes in the guise of qualifying questions. But now they will send you the same test request multiple times on different dates. They will send you requests for high paying qualifying tests which have already expired. I hadnt checked my inbox there and I had SIX pages of tests to go through. After going through about 30 tests and not qualifying for a single one, I tried to decline all the tests in bulk. You cant do it. You can only do one page at a time. I dont know if declining tests hurt you for getting future tests but at this point I dont care. The company has lost all credibility in my book.
I've tested with User Testing for years so I'll give a little background, I live in Canada so my tests are very limited compared to the US Tests and this makes using the site mush more difficult and making money even harder.
The one thing I hate more than anything is unfair treatment the Testers who write the tests for you to take are very touchy and will rate you one star for the slightest mistake, even if it's poorly written with spelling and confusing grammar mistakes.
When I do a test I give my honest review and thoughts on the site app or whatever they need reviewed but if you even as give a little bit of criticism or get frustrated with a buggy or unstable app the site the test maker will take it personally and rate you one star, the annoying thing is the review process takes forever and every time they come back agreeing with the test maker.
I worked very hard to work up a perfect 5 star rating and it was ruined by a bunch of one stars one after another.
Most of the time you can't even find a test you qualify for and when I do I am very reluctant to even take it.
A while back my account got hacked and someone changed my Paypal to some other email I have never seen before I lost 30 bucks from some tests I did a few weeks earlier, I E-mailed them told them I did not change this Paypal email and they should have an E-mail system to inform you it was changed, there is no security at all. I have to change all my passwords just to be safe on all websites. I got an email back two months later saying that the "security" department did find any evidence of a hack and that the money was sent the the right address even though it was not and anyone can see that in there department, they even sent me the Paypal of the hacker and said this was always my Paypal address a flat out lie.
I have many more horror stories like that with User Testing.
User Testing needs to take a huge step back and look at themselves and remember the User in User Testing.
To sum it all up stay away from User Testing and tell your friends to stay away too, these guys need to go out of business.
Answer: They can but It's 2019. If you are worried about having your face seen then don't do the live test. However the live test pay $30-$60 so youd be missing out
Answer: NO. I was rejected from over 50 surveys within a week. The 1 i was accepted for made me download a handful of extensions and apps, then froze on me and I had to decline the test myself to see new ones.
Answer: Both their android and ios app are bad and crash, I suggest try another
Answer: Not possible anymore unfortunately... Try other sites
Answer: They aren't hiring anymore they just waste people s time and have a laugh of it
Answer: Yes you get $10 a test with them usually taking 8-15 minutes $30 for 30 minute test $60 for 60 minute test
