So I figured this would be a great way to earn some passive income. What a wrong assumption.
I had issues with the crackpot they hooked me up with to enroll. Then I realized how scammy this place is. Just like Uber, where you cannot actually reach anyone to report any issues to. Thank goodness I figured this out before I pulled the plug on going forward. I can see the writing on the wall of how impossible it would be to resolve any issues. Hosts: Avoid!
Turo is the etsy of the car rental business. I had to have my bank take them to court to refund 400 charge they fraudulently put on my card. I didn't even get a chance to pick up car. All I can tell you is avoid them like the plague.
I suppose your overall experience with Turo.com will totally depend on your host and dependabilityof their vehicle(s). I had a great host that was very accommodating to my night shift work schedule. I would suggest getting a host with more than just a few positive reviews and a vehicle that isn't extremely old.
I had a terrible experience as a Turo Host! We are in the SLC, Utah metro and started with a minivan. It was profitable, so we got another one, then tried a luxury SUV to appeal to the skiing visitors. The first 3 trips went perfect with raving reviews, but the third lost control in a rainstorm and got in an accident. Turo refused to process the damage claim, because my safety inspection was 3 months old. The claims adjuster also advised me that they could deny the claim, because I didn't have a photo of the guests Driver's License and photo of the guest holding the Driver's License. My personal insurance would not cover the damage, because the accident occurred during a Turo Trip. The damages we over $18,000 and we were stuck to cover the bill out of pocket!
As we started this Turo Host experience, our current bank and insurance company would not consider being associated with Turo, this was my first ignored warning. The fine print in Turo's agreements gives them several loopholes and I haven't figured out how to hold Turo or their Guest accountable. The agreements include a no-lawsuits clause, so I cannot sue Turo. I have requested arbitration four times with no response.
The risk of have any vehicles on the road, driven by strangers, with practically no insurance is way too high to be considered. I discourage anyone from becoming a Host. If you are already a host, I encourage you to cash-out your assets before they get totaled without coverage.
I check Turo each time I rent a car hoping to find a deal or a unique car that meets my needs. In my area the car owners aren't serious about renting the cars out.
The cars cost more than the chains and they are a hassle to pick up. Most owners limit the mileage and have rules such as no eating in car. The car's owner may cancel the reservation.
For me it's not worth the hassle but if you want a unique car for a day Turo may be worth checking.
HI,
I am guessing some of the reviews here may be posted by competitors. For example, once you're a member there is no way they would cancel your membership. Just throw that review out the window.
I just rented a tesla model 3 for a week. I really got the car, and it really was a tesla, and it was not really expensive. But there are things you do need to be aware of.
First, check the host ratings. Those are critical with any service like this. My host was OK but made a couple of gaffs. In the end I really enjoyed using the service. My host did not charge the car fully and he had recently changed his location and I got a little bit stuck. In the end he accommodated me on the return.
Here's where to beware: Watch the mileage limits. Mine was a "total mileage" limit of 600 miles. I had the car for many days so this did not make sense, but yet I got burned for $450 extra fees. That being said, If I had rented the Tesla from another person, my car would have cost me more (well over $100 a day; mine was less than $80 a day).
Some people are renting dream cars on this site- this is one way to drive a dream car! But in those cases the mileage limit may be really low. Remember to carefully review this and other things and you should do well if not better than using a rental service. For whatever reason, you can't rent a tesla on hertz, avis, or any other car rental company that I can find. You can do it on Turo and you can do it for a reasonable price.
The cars it provided were not matching the service charge it took. But the delivery time was very fast. The driver seemed knowledgeable of roads. I will recommend them.
Ok. Buissness in LA was going to hire a turo car, it was a normal car 4 door 5 days cost was. 480 USA, now I had to go to the car or I could get the owner to pick me up extra 60 USA so it's now 540. Then you need to take the extra insurance cover to reduce you excess from 8000 usa 500 USA 26.50 a day, so now we are at 650 approx USA. No that's just over $1000 Australia. So I go to budget. LAX Airport 4 door standard car brand new 2021 488 Australia that's right not USA. Ultimate cover insurance 34$ a day Australia so no excess nothing to pay if you have a accident, which I hope Never happens, so we're about 750 Australian. I land go to budget they take the info bus me to my car I get in drive out get scanned, then bring it back to the car lot scanned. On budget Bus back to the terminal. Home.
Now the turo way I have to bring the car back to the person's home get a taxi back to the airport 60 bucks.
So I am better off using a reptible company. No saying that. You can hire cheap ones in London 20 pound I hire one it's was a wreck. My life is worth more. Best luck happy holidays. Ps might be a few spelling mistakes but I am a tradie no a jurno
I rented a car through them and it was a good experience until the end. The car came with 100 miles free, $9.99 per mile after. I was enjoying the car and decided to go over the 100 miles, even though I knew it would be expensive. When I returned the car to the owner (host) he went on the Turo app and put the extra miles in. I was able to view the invoice right away but it said $10.49 per mile. I asked him about it and he said he only charges $9.99 per mile. I disputed the invoice and filled out all of the required fields to do so. The next day I called Turo and the rep said the charge is $10.49 per mile, I said no, the agreement shows the lower rate and I have screenshots to prove it. She said send them via email which I did. Later that day I saw that they tried to charge my card for the original invoice! I was furious! I spent two days going back and forth with them, they never addressed the proof I had nor did they call the host to verify. I had to call the host and ask him to call them which he did, only then did they agree that the lower rate was correct.
This was supposed to be a bucket list, once in a lifetime experience for me (I rented a Lamborghini) but this whole experience has tainted it.
I hope this helps anyone who is considering renting this way to research thoroughly any and all companies who provide this service.
After car broke down,... I spent HOURS on Turo "helpline"... Turo will "ditch you" in situations like this...and pulverize their responsibility by only allowing phone instead of chats... leaving you nothing but unforfilled promises. Wost company EVER.
Car given was not the car listed in the description. Could not leave seller a review because seller deleted listing. Complained to Turo how I should be able to leave a review. Instead of solving the problem and letting me leave a review, Turo was beating around the bush. There's a reason they mostly have good reviews. They try their best to silence bad reviews.
It's a scam. SCAM SCAM
They don't vet their hosts.
I have been accused of smoking with pictures taken of ashes in the car. I don't smoke. I have been terminated from Turo therefore I can't retrieve any of my pictures or correspondence with the host. I sent in the pictures that I took before I dropped it off of a clean car. They took my money and I can't get in touch with anyone. If it were a fender bender I was accused of with a scratch or dent I could possibly go along with it, however it's smoking and I was the only one in the car and don't smoke. The fact the host turned in pictures of an ash filled cup holder and console is suspicious and reeks of a scam.
Please protect yourself and don't use this company.
They canceled my first car 10 minutes before I arrived. I ordered another car out of necessity. I had to walk a quarter mile from the place they gave me directions to get to the car. The car worked fine. The day after I dropped it off, they charge my credit card $170.00 Because there was dog hair in the back of the car by the tailgate. I never even opened the tailgate and never had any dog fir near the car. It was a bogus charge which they will not refund. There is no people in the company to communicate with in person. It's all through chat and very inconvenient. Run from this company!
Went to pick up a car. Had to uber there bc he wouldn't drop off. Car wasn't there. Guy gave me another car. Wasn't clean. Then they charged me for both. Got the run around trying to get my $ back!
I went to BC for fews days and rent a car. I bought some weed and never smoked in the car. Then the owner charges me 250 USD for cleaning fee as he said I smoked in the car. The only proof he got is something like 5 grain of sand that was on the seat. He says its ashes and its obvious I smoked in the car. Then Turo kindly ask me if I have PROOF, that I DIDNT smoke in the car, once I am back in Montreal. I got scammed 250USD and they keep emailing me to say they have the best interest in helping me and ask me for these proof. Basically, anyone could say you smoked in the car and charge you 250USD. I am telling everyone not to use Turo since, worst service I got. Who rents a car for 3 days and smoke weed inside, come on...
They'll lie to you and anything else to get you to pay their INFLATED fees then leave you stranded! We were taken advantage of by a seller who wanted new tires, they canceled our insurance on the car & charged us double what they'll cost and closed the amount until we paid it. We then paid it after personally getting confirmation that our account we gain full access again after payment and they closed the account soon as we paid. Nobody can be trusted, they're all pawns used to lie to you for a single person behind a computer to screw anyone who expects fairness. I wouldn't recommend them if it was FREE
Worst customer service I have ever experienced aside from Robinhood. They do not listen, do not read the issues at hand, they respond from a general alias and are nearly impossible to reach by phone. Their call line is a joke and will hang up on you at any moment. DO NOT WORK WITH TURO. They take a huge fee and provide almost no assistance. Their timeline for damage reports are too short and they do not look at pre and post pictures of your car.
I booked a vehicle for 3 days for a total of $195. In day 2nd I decided to extend the vehicle for one extra day. Once I got back home I found that they charged me $120 for that extra day. I called turo and they indicated that the extension gets charged at a higher (much higher!) price than the original booking.
I will never book again with these crooks!
If I could put "0"I would do that. The day before my trip I got message that my trip was canceled due to car crash which I booked. I got email from support team " No worries!. And bla-bla-bla". As a result I spent 2 days on phone trying to find a car and I didn't! 1 host didn't respond, 2nd canceled saying "Sorry, I didn't check my calendar. The car is not available" Than appeared an error with payment. Turo assistance was playing in ping-pong game with me. Finally, MY MONEY was AGAIN taken from my credit card! So they took my money twice and I DIDN't get a CAR!
So now I have to spend days trying to get my money back!
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH TURO! A TOTAL SCAM!
I rented a vehicle from Turo for the first time. After returning from my trip, I received an email days later that I had been charged a whopping fee of $237, for a chipped wind shied, which was more than the car rental. They charged the card on file automatically. Once Turo gets the credit card, they invoice fraudulent charges. Do not give these people your credit card or banking info. The customer service is pro car owners and does not care about the users.
Will never use this service again. HORRIBLE! I would never recommend them to anyone. Please do your self a favor and use a real car rental company.
Do not get scammed by TURO!
Answer: No way to reach anyone to resolve issues or report issues to.
Answer: It's still kind of mom and pop but it seems to be real. The chat was completely broken when I tried it but the phone picked up. However, despite the U.S. number advertising 24/7, that does not include billing questions. This is fairly typical so I would not begrudge them for it.
Turo has a rating of 1.5 stars from 69 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Turo most frequently mention customer service, credit card and terrible experience. Turo ranks 193rd among Car Rental sites.
