For years, I considered Trustpilot a reliable reference to evaluate business reputations. But after thorough investigation and firsthand observation, I must warn that its current model seems to favor paying companies while penalizing those who share legitimate criticism. In my experience: Negative reviews are removed under vague criteria, even when they are well-written and free of offensive language. Companies can block user accounts, trigger forced verifications, or mass-report critical users, creating a form of covert censorship. Trustpilot does not inform whistleblowers or reviewers about the progress of investigations, hiding behind confidentiality—even when solid evidence is provided. The rating system appears to reward volume over authenticity, creating a bias toward businesses that push for mass positive reviews. This creates a dangerous paradox: users post reviews to protect others, but Trustpilot protects the companies being reported, under a moderation system lacking transparency. This is not an isolated issue, but a structural flaw. A reputation platform that can be used to whitewash questionable businesses becomes a risk, not a safeguard. My recommendation:
Don't rely solely on Trustpilot scores. Look for independent sources, explore user forums, and understand that many positive reviews may be incentivized or strategically generated.

Compare Amazon reviews to MyProtein reviews. Why does MyProtein have so many more reviews than Amazon on TrustPilot? Why does MyProtein rank high on TrustPilot but poorly on SiteJabber? Because MyProtein is putting up fake reviews on TrustPilot. That's why. Amazon:
TrustPilot has 38k reviews. 1.6 stars
SiteJabber has 10k reviews. 3 stars MyProtein:
TrustPilot has 183k reviews. 4.5 stars
SiteJabber has 112 reviews. 1.4 stars

LTrustPilot presents itself as a reliable platform for honest consumer feedback, but my experience suggests otherwise. Their automated detection system is a disaster, arbitrarily flagging and removing legitimate reviews while leaving users in limbo for months. I originally posted a review about a company in August 2024, only to have it removed without explanation. Despite multiple follow-ups and providing irrefutable proof of my transaction, TrustPilot ignored my appeals. Then, three months later—without any intervention on my part—they admitted to a "filtering error" and reinstated my review. Fast forward to March 2025, and the same thing has happened again when I tried to update my review about that same company, which has since improved its service. This isn't an isolated case of an algorithm making a mistake. It's a systematic failure that undermines the integrity of the entire platform. If genuine reviews are so easily erased, how many more are being wrongly filtered out? And if it takes relentless follow-ups and months of waiting to correct these errors, what does that say about TrustPilot's commitment to transparency? Their canned responses and vague justifications—suggesting that my review might have been removed due to "unusual behaviour," "privacy settings," or "multiple accounts"—are nothing more than a smokescreen for a broken system. I'll admit to having more than one email address, so more than one TrustPilot review in "my name", but I can't see how that is a reason to pull. Even when I provided clear proof of my transaction, they still did nothing. TrustPilot claims to help consumers make informed decisions, but when its filtering system is this flawed, the entire platform loses credibility. If you're looking for a trustworthy review site, look elsewhere… like here!

Trustpilot removes reviews that are 1 star critical while allowing blatantly fake positive 5 star reviews to stay up.Their integrity team can't remove your 1 star review fast enough, arrogantly claiming they're confident they made the correct decision.

When You try and have a conversation with them and ask why they've removed reviews all you get in return are copy-and-paste responses. You cant get any answers.

They even have a page to review themselves; of course, this is full of positive reviews, most of which are gibberish but allowed to stay up

I even flagged obvious fake reviews that are scams which contain phone numbers and Instagram handles, but they're still up. Trustpilot doesn't care.

In the 'Mail on Sunday' Boots offer a free token for a £27.50 face serum. I cut the coupon out an was waiting for our local [large] store to open at 11.00 a.m. They didn't have any of this item in stock. Tried 6 other stores and same result; not one had had any in stock.

Tried posting on Trustpilot and as usual, review rejected.

Reported on social media and found that other people too had not been able to find any stock available.

To date 14 people have tried posting on Trustpilot and every review has been rejected!

Trustpilot is rapidly declining in having any connection to what Companies are really like.

Sitejabber is now in the ascendency for its impartiality.

Keep up the good work.

Another Impediment to impartiality!

Previous review

Trustpilot used to be trustworthy. Now in its spurt for growth its censoring postings. If you write a 3 or less starred review you're blocked from any further postings, even if they're 5 star ones. This is leading to nothing but 4/5 star reviews for every business. If you use Trustpilot always look at the 1 or 2 star reiews for a truer picture of what any company is like.

I've given up. My genuine reviews don't stay up. I provide evidence they are genuine and they get removed or sometimes I'm not even asked for evidence. They are too quick to remove negative reviews but I bet they don't remove any possibly fake positive reviews from friends, family and staff. Do they even ask for proof when a review is positive? It's just no good any more. I hope this site doesn't go the same way

Banned for Posting Negative Reviews
October 28, 2024
Updated review

After posting about six negative reviews over a couple of years they banned me from posting any more reviews at all. They only want positive reviews after a while.

Date of experience: October 28, 2024

I used Trustpilot for a few years with no problems. Then they suddenly accused me of being a bot and will not let me login. I tried a second email account with the same problem. Maybe they didn't like me posting negative reviews for Squareup, which they may have a financial interest in?

Review removed
March 5, 2024

Trustpilot removed negative my review of Trustpilot, saying I had to prove I used their services, I need to provide proof, a receipt or paperwork. Thid is impossible, but when asked how and said this was my proof, I heard no more. Trustpilot is a scam, negative reviews get removed if the reviewed service or company complains. Only positive reviews are allowed.

Censorship of reviews
February 29, 2024

I have written countless reviews and all have been deleted but 3.

About a month ago I wrote a review that was flagged, I provided customer ID and screenshots and it was approved and marked "verified". A month later I got a sudden email that it was removed.

Terrible website that approves countless fake reviews from new accounts without history and removes already Verified reviews.

Asking customer to provide documentation, verifying the review (by adding Verified badge) and then removing it later as unauthentic is quite disrespectful towards review writers.

While removing reviews you worked hard on is frustrating, at least they tell you they do. Deleted my account immediately after and found this site. Who cares if it's smaller.

Do not trust
January 5, 2024

I wrote a review about silksilky being bad and it seems the review site trustpilot might be even worse. They asked for my order# and I needed to open up an account with them and have my photo ID uploaded or my review would be deleted. They might need my bank account number too or find it. Good lord trustpilot is bad.

Horrible
July 19, 2022

I never thought being thankful for good service and leaving positive review is such horrible experience. After few days I received email that my review was removed. To approve my review they requested id and order invoice from shop with my address and etc. so I can prove that I'm real person? This is a joke, I'm not going to share my private data with shady company. To post a review it will take a weeks trip messaging forward and backward with trustpilot support. Don't waste your time on Trustpilot.

No Longer Trustworthy
November 11, 2023

I have used Trustpilot before but lately they seem to flag every one of my genuine reviews. They even deleted a review recently I had written years ago. How can a review from years ago suddenly be problematic now? With at least one company, I have seen some positive reviews on Trustpilot that look suspicious to me. It feels that it has started to become a website where dishonest organisations are able to make themselves look good. I hope I am wrong.

The customer service dont read your emails or check evidence sent, they reach their own decision then come to you after. They allow unscrupulous people to leave fake reviews and abuse and support them in doing so. I do not recommend having an account.

Honest but negative reviews are easily challenged by companies who interact with this lot. How else would Webuyanycar and Music Magpie get such strong reviews. Answer, they're not the full picture. Look elsewhere for honest reviews of companies that offer poor customer service.

The biggest laughing stock on the internet

Their integrity team constantly remove bad reviews yet allow fake 5 star reviews to stay up. They message you saying they're confident they've made the right decision.

When you reply with actual evidence, they just ignore you and simply suspend your account. A shambles of a company only interested in making money from businesses, hence they let them do as they please despite their protestations about not tolerating fake reviews.

Just look at their own page if you want a laugh. They have 200,000 reviews and they're rated excellent. They pump in dozens of 5 star reviews daily, most of which don't even make sense yet are allowed to stay up

Not to be trusted
April 21, 2022

I went onto the review page of trustpilot to complain about companies leaving fake 5 star reviews for themselves only to see trustpilot are at it themselves. Talk about conflict of interest. Why would they want great feedback for themselves?

Their job is to let people comment on how good/bad companies are yet their own page is full of invited reviews all 5 star, most don't even make sense.

If you do leave a bad review companies just get it removed. I got a review taken down as they wanted proof I had a contract with the tv company concerned. How I am supposed to show that? It's free to air. I'm sure had It been a 5 star review it would still be up

I have had a bad experience with a business and tried to leave a negative but fair review on Trustpilot. Despite providing the proof of order requested by Trustpilot they have still not shown my review. There appear to be quite a few other 'hidden' reviews. How can you trust a site which is only showing positive reviews?
