Stay away -
August 8, 2019

I bought my tickets for vacation in europe from cheapoair and the agent called me back, advising me to buy the insurance to take care of any unforseen situation. I had to cancel my trip due to unavoidable work reasons. Every single insurance company paid whatever was due except Trip Mate. Trip Mate sends me a letter denying the claim stating that it was a reason not covered. I looked at the reasons which are worthy of a refund and you know what - they are the reasons which makes it a newsworthy reason - Like hijacking, Terrorist incident, death(a very good reason), Military emergency duty etc. Honestly, it is impossible to make the criteria for the refund. Its a scam... Only one advise- Stay away from TripMate. Wish they get closed.

Never again will I purchase insurance from these scumbags. After 77 days they have not refunded anything at all. Every single time I call they give you bunch of fake promises that your case has been pushed and you will get your claim processed shortly. Please don't jeopardize your money and remember not to go with TripMate.

Waste of time and money
November 11, 2022

I would give tripmate less than 1 star if able. I purchased this policy in case of emergency while on vacation - which is what it is for- right? Well- the emergency happened and I needed to get home early (person house sitting/dog sitting disappeared and my dogs would not have survived - literally - locked in a home without food/water for 3 weeks). This is not considered a covered reason because my home had not been "deemed uninhabitable" -wth?!?! I have purchased these insurance plans many times - never again - what a SCAM!

Run around
September 1, 2022

My mother and I were set to travel and because of my health condition we had to cancel. I needed to send a ridiculous amount of info about my condition and a full page doctors note which cost me $50.00. They approved the refund in April of 2022. It's now September and after many phone calls and emails we are no closer to getting our money back. Viking river cruises uses this shady company. Shame on them.

Travel insurance
March 11, 2020

They are super slow to give you a response. Not worth the money. I got sick on a Europe vacation and could not attend my excursion it was 50.00. I went to a doctor in the US submitted twice and Trip Mate gave me nothing. Why have insurance! BS insurance.

Update: I called in today to check on the status of the Checks that were supposed to be issued. This was check process was supposed to be escalated. As of now no update. I asked for a Supervisor to call me told it could be up to 72 hours. I emailed them and got an auto responder. TripMate continues to disappoint. This last agent was rude and took a tone when I questioned the Supervisor timing. This whole experience continues to disappoint me. At one point someone from TripMate took my phone number off and replaced it with all 5's which prevents anyone from calling out. This continues to be an issue. At some point maybe I need to file a complaint with ODI.

Update: Still in Limbo with this claim. It is past their 30 days and nothing.

I have been on the phone with TripMate. I have asked for a Supervisor 5 times. No one will call. Their 30 day processing time is up tomorrow. They cannot answer questions what so ever.

My claim with TRIPMATE is now over a year old.
Unable to get consistent answers with TRIPMATE.com
Every time you email them it takes 30 days. Tripmate will ask you to send documents to gain time.
They have multiple emails to take advantage of the confusion.
Without a lawyer there is no way to get your refund!

My wife and I booked a 10-day Viking River Cruise to Germany (7-days, plus 3 days of added excursions). Because of COVID-19 infections in the U.S., the German government has blocked entry of "non-essential travelers" from the U.S. Viking has reimbursed about 70% of what we paid, and offered a voucher that would cover part of the cost of a future trip. That may be useful to some travelers, but isn't practical for older people when the virus is still out there. We had purchased TripMate Travel Insurance with a "Cancel for Any Reason" clause. TripMate has denied our claim, and denied the appeal we filed. They say it's not covered under their policy. If we can't travel because the destination country won't let us in, isn't that a prima facia valid reason? TripMate has rigged their insurance to keep valid reasons for trip cancellation from being paid. Viking has treated us well, but I would not recommend buying TripMate insurance under any circumstances.

When you are in a foreign country and your flight gets cancelled it can be really stressful. When you finally get home and you try to recoup the extra money you spent from Tripmate it get's worse. There is no email address on their site to contact them. The only way to get info is to call and it's very hard to get a person to talk to. It took several calls and pushing different buttons just to luckily get a person on the phone. It get's even worse when they send you checks that equal around 400 dollars but the documentation you sent them clearly shows it was 762.08. Now I have to try and contact them again to try and get the money they owe me. I will never buy travel insurance from tripmate again!

Avoid Tripmate!
October 7, 2022

We elected to purchase travel insurance for a Viking cruise in July 2022 and purchased a travel protection plan via Viking through Trip Mate. Because of travel delays we missed three plus days of the voyage and were charged for a hotel room in Istanbul (booked but not cancelled in time by Viking) to the tune of about $279. Total refund for the trip seems to come to $320 ($160 for each of us) for the travel delay with no payment for the hotel room. Their forms are complicated and unclear. They stated that their goal was to have the claim completed in a month. We had to call them two months after we filed the claim. Avoid this company.

Very bed insurance company, Never use, Never trust!
They have very unprofessional and unserious behavior against customer. They are making decision to cover the case, issuing checks which cane be used in US and only 1-2 banks in Europe, then advising customer to request renaming of check if the person written in the check is unable to make cash out of check, and then sending letter that they are not covering case and are not going to pay. All agents in customer service talks very nice but no one is really helpful, i talked already 13 agents, stayed in line very long hours and no one was able to solve my case) i can accept that it could be lack of information between departments, maybe one department is not aware about already made decision of other department, but after my several emails and calls they can at least solve issue and send renamed checks per their first and communicated decision and not ignore customer by either not replying emails or saying supervisor will call you back and never call.
After 2 month of calling them and writing emails, today i got rejection of check and even they didn't call me back and said sorry for unprofessional behavior or wrote email with explanation of the reason of rejection. They don't care about customers. Never trust them.
And amount is 210 USD.

SCAM
October 9, 2019

When buying airplane tickets DO NOT get insurance through TripMate Travel Insurance. Not only they make you wait 30 days, then they come up with the stupidest excuse not to give you your money back. A hurricane category 4 was supposed to hit the place where we were going on vacation, but because last minute it didn't happen then they won't give us a refund? How were we supposed to know where it was going or how strong it was going to be? Ridiculous! - beyond frustrated

This company is the worse I have ever dealt with. I bought trip insurance and paid 800 dollars which is extremely pricey for trip insurance. I filed a claim over 2 months ago and they have done nothing. They will not call me back. All they say is that it will be handled. If I could give it 0 stars I would. STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

Run dont walk away SCAM
October 24, 2021

Booked a flight to Pittsburg with bookbyfare, took trip mate insurance just in case something happened and it did the kitten I was flying down for wasn't available anymore. Tried contacting them of course no one answers phone. Filled out all paperwork sent it UPS. And nothing, I am out over 400.00. Stay away from bookbyfare nice when your booking but rude when you have a problem. On paperwork it said agent could fill it out for you too, but they refused my requests

You need to give at least one star to review anything--so! Very unpleasant experience. My loss was small, but reading reviews of others experiences made me furious. I am in correspondence with the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Missouri (TM headquartered there). The AG is receiving the same sort of gobbely-gook responses we all did. I urge you to make contact with their office also. Maybe a widespread, large volume of complaints would be taken seriously.

Do not waste your money with TripMate. So hard to get through to customer service. They will only talk to you after you file a claim. We missed our flight because our luggages were delayed to our connecting flight. I had filed over 40 plus documents proving our delay along with accrued expenses and they said the insurance doesn't cover for delayed luggages. So wtf did the insurance cover then? Basically, nothing. They only know how to take your money but when it's time to reimbursed they name all kinds of excuses to not pay your claims. Oh, it's because there's a limit on delays, etc. A delayed is delayed. So what's the point of buying travel insurance? No point exactly!

Unforgivable
June 17, 2020

This company is the antithesis of anything you would ever want to involve yourself with as a consumer. The amount of time that I wasted jumping through hoops for them is comical. I wish I could go back in time and tell the past me that everything I was doing was just pissing in the wind. My issues with this company are innumerable. They lie about the "service" they provide. They are impossible to get a hold of by any other way than e-mail. They will often respond with canned answers that were just copy and pasted from a script but in the end, after all the e-mails and completed placebo paperwork, they are just a company of smug frauds. I will let everyone I come in contact with know about Trip Mate. I will review the company on every possible web-site and forum and I pray to all the gods that they are the defendant in a class action lawsuit. I sincerely hope that the CEO of this company, Brad Finkle, knows that he is a shill and that Trip Mate is trash.

I have been dealing with Tripmate since March 24th 2022 seeking a refund from a cancelation of a high school band trip to Disney. We have submitted all the necessary forms and medical documents required by tripmate. I have emailed several times and I receive a response that they are working on the claim. They have had ample time to refund our money. They are not a reliable company, and try to find any loophole to deny our claim. The claim was submitted well before the trip date in April. 2022. I am very disappointed with their service, and I would give them a zero if I could.
