They do not communicate with pros. Lie about their present and achievements in the market. Don't trust the reviews that they control. Very much a scam for your money. If they learned how to treat their pro's well, they would succeed with the homeowner market. Ivy league attitude scum, sit back and watch their model take money from people with no conscience.
Thumbtack connects you with wrong customers and customers out of your area, charges your card then only refunds it to your house account making you continue to use the service when you just want off the crazy ride.the last bondoggle the customer they connected me with lived over 5 hours away in another state. Most users if the sight are penny pinchers, I have much better luck on Home Adviser. DO NOT recommend for professionals!
IF I was reviewing my overall experience, I would rate them 5... but not now. Just today I found out contractors have to pay to send a quote even when they don't get the job. I have placed 18 requests in 3 years and hired 5 people. Not one of the other 13 jobs did I hire someone else to do... I just didn't do them for a variety of reasons. When you fill out a request, you can indicate "I am conducting initial research". IF I had known contractors had to pay just to quote, I might not have placed my request on the majority of them. This information needs to be disclosed to consumers on the website... otherwise it is NOT fair to the contractors. I am going to look for another resource.
I have been on Thumbtack for about one year now. My business gets regular quote requests, but I received an email that they will be removing all categories relevant to my business. I will no longer be using this service.
I have been trying to make a payment on my account since 03/15/18. I owe $22.97. I have made 3 payments prior to this charge.
I have called my bank and the specialist there told me there is no block on the account and that Thumbtack has been charging me $0.00
I have been trying to speak to someone there about how much they are charging per customer reached, and no one will provide that information. There are no set prices for their service. They can literally charge what every they want and won't break it down for you.
Now, since they can't figure out how to charge me properly, they have blocked my access to my customers and to send quotes.
I have tried the customer service chat room, calling (on hold for over 30 min each time), emailing, and now texting. The people I interact will don't seem to understand English and have a copy-paste response to everything. This month I have already spent $40 for a $100 customer. So far that's 40% of my profits.
Save your time, your money, and most importantly, your sanity.
Dont do business with this company, they will steal your money, i try and all they did was used any excuse to get into my account and collect money from me without do nothing but send me emails about supposed job from different state
Don't deal with this guys!!!
They are the worst!
It is like putting your money in a bag with a big hole. Be aware. At First. They send you a lot of requests. It is kind of scary and unreasonable like they generate those leads there is is no way to be real. But still I gave it a try and started spending money to get some clients. My quotes are viewed from anonymous people where I got charged. One client booked and never showed up. One called by mistake. All that I got charged... Unbelievable. I spent more than $400 in a month with people playing around. Save your money and run...
We hired a pro on Thumbtack for a roof repair, he came and we gave him money to start the job, he was doing horrible job, wasn't even doing it right, put tar where we didn't need it. Ending up needing a whole roof because of his negligence. The pro we hired wasn't licensed and he said he would give us our money back. This was in January. Went to Thumbtack to give him a review, he deleted his account and changed his phone number. Contacted Thumbtack, told them my complaint, they said they removed him already so a review wasn't needed and would forward my complaint to theTrusts and Safety team. I am still owed $1500. 00 and I don't even know his real name. I had to spend $12,900 for a new roof because of his negligence! I thought if I used Thumbtack I would have some kind of recourse, but I was wrong.
This company is a total rip-off.
They claim to have legit leads and they charge you for leads that has no repsonses.
Leads have no phone number to reach the clients.
BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.! They place fake ads to allure you to respond and they pretend by responding to your email and charge you for each leads that so called respond.
Try to ask the lead to give a number to call to confirm theyr work request no telephone number given.
If someone really are looking for a handyman, interior designer, photograper for their projects they will give you their number so they know who are dealing with.
In this case Thumbtack is not giving clients phone number because of so called privacy policy.
If a client is looking for a pro they should be able to to be reached so we can offer them our services.
When chatting online with them the response you get is with a link to their policies and they do not respond to you after that.
When trying to dispute the charge with my credit card company they state it was valid since I gave them permission to charge.
Yes I gave permission to charge for real leads not fake leads.
To all that have been scam by Thumbtack class Action Lawsuit has to be initiated with the company/owner.
This is very dishonest business practice.
I was a DJ using Thumbtack for the past year, but with the advent of their pro assist, I started noticing charging discrepancies. They are quick to explain the charge but not to refund it. Not saying they are crooks but watch how they charge you! Good luck
I used Thumbtack to search for a contractor. They were all clearly cheaper than Home Advisor contractors so I hired one. I saw the guy throwing up one morning and asked if he was okay. He said he wasn't feeling good, i insisted the poor guy leave and come back tomorrow. GUESS WHAT... he never came back, left his tool bag here and my husband for a package of drugs in it. I was furious... I called Thumbtack to complain and ask how this guy was able to be referred by them and they told me anyone can sign up. YOU JUST SENT A JUNKIE TO MY HOUSE I SAID. They said they would look into it. End of story, the guy never came back took $1000 of my money probably spent $100 of it here and it's all my fault looking for these cheap quotes. HOME ADVISOR has real pro's thats for sure.
Thumbtack was great then started changing everything and went down hill quickly they charge you for quotes I haven't been contacted by customers and they keep charging me they are a rip offs just like all the other companys like this
As a professional, I find this service unhelpful. Customer Service was very limited in their ability to resolve an issue. The pricing on the Instant Quote service is erratic and non-transparent. There is no differentiation in pricing between potential customers that contact the business versus customers that result in a hire. In some industries, there are a lot of "window shoppers," and this makes a big difference. Beware. I strongly discourage.
As a Photographer & Thumbtack Top Pro there was a time you could pull some leads, be competitive and get business. It looks like those days are gone. I really wish that weren't the case because I used to like it. Now they are blasting unlimited bids at a time. One lead just had 19 bids on the insights. I have a 20 reviews all verified 5 stars. What a disappointment. I did used to make money here. Right now I am down a couple hundred dollars without a good job from it.
Don't waste your time or money! This is a terrible service which has even worse customer service, they HUNG UP ON me because I was asking for a refund and refused to let me speak with a manager.
I had people just asking for contact information or my website which is already listed and I was charged $15 for each person who just did not look at my profile to find it. This adds up quick and not truly a "lead". We are on the losing end of their business model.
And Thumbtack customer service does not care! There live chat was equally as terrible.
And who's to say that thumbtack does not have a team of people just responding to your quotes to create money for them! SMOKE AND MIRRORS for sure!
January and February are always a little slow so I thought I would give this a try but oh my! Don't bother! And I don't even give them a single star.
There isn't a good way to make money on this website as a photographer. You can get lucky and hit a few shoots that'll make you money, but you'll end up spending the same in bidding for the quotes or paying more than you made.
Their model is this; you send a quote or have it automatically setup to send and if they customer replies in any way... you pay for the quote, which could be from $5-$50. This adds up really quick and most of the time you just get people that are trying to get a better idea of what's offered or trying to field the market and see if they can find a better price. You usually end up on the losing end of this model, thumbtack doesn't really care at all, they're making money on it and aren't going to change anytime soon.
Also, it's really skeptical when all they have to do is have a team of people asking bland questions to your quotes to create a payday for themselves.
I had high hopes and I have received one dog walking job since I signed up 4 months ago. I had one possible who ended up going with someone else. Seems like you have to pay out money with nothing in return. I have had better luck get referrals by word of mouth.
When I first started my marketing agency this was a great way to get some initial business. There are other people quoting jobs as well, and there is a fee to quote, but take advantage of some free credits, offers and coupons before having to pay.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
