I own a handyman service and have been with Thumbtack for 2 years. I just got off the phone with customer service asking them why they charge so much for leads that never pan out. I asked customer service why they charge for a lead if I return just one email and they consider that contact a solid lead. I told customer service that I felt that being charged $75 for returning an email is wrong. They made me so mad that I ended up hanging up on them. I do feel that they are creating false leads just to be able to charge your account. Do not use this company if you are a customer or a pro. This company is a scam. The only reason I gave him one star was so I could submit this review.
I highly recommend Masons Plumbing. I needed to have my water heater replaced, they came out within a few hours, were very reasonable and fair. Will and Wes were very professional and personable and did great work. I will absolutely call them for future plumbing needs!
Our car was hit by a moving company that helped my neighbor move in, via thumbtack, they ended up backing into our car and causing over 4000$ worth of damage. We had to pay because they did not have insurance and were not bonded or licensed. We as well as our neighbor contacted thumbtack they told us they were not responsible and would not be helping us in the slightest to get reimbursed. Awful company, you' be better off hiring someone with a pickup off of Craigslist, at least you wouldn't have to pay a broker fee. We will be reporting them to the state attorney and the better business bureau.
Did a survey 2 days ago about how easy Thumbtack is to navigate and did I like the app. I told the truth that it's hard to understand and some pros dont even respond once you create a project. Randomly today I went to check and see of anyone has responded and my account was deactivated. I immediately deleted the app completely and decided to find a different avenue.
You will get leads from TT. There is no doubt about it. HOWEVER! They get to decide how much they want to charge you for a lead which is unfair. If the customer responds to your bid, you are automatically charged no matter if you get the job or not. I HATE thumbtack! They do not offer refunds if you get a flaky customer. Then they encourage you to respond to all of your requests and if a customer says "No thank you" BOOM! You're charged for that lead. TT sucks.
Hired a long distance mover and they took my money and my stuff
Had good reviews but 8 weeks later my stuff did not arrive
Company called local
Logistics never ever use them we will see if thumbtack helps
I have requested estimates for 2 jobs. They aren't anything unusual or odd. I live in Phoenix (the 6th largest city in the U.S.). They obviously don't attract many service providers because I didn't get any estimates for my first job request and the second (I just requested) they gave me the same, "not many in your area, possibly one estimate in 24 hours" so, I won't hold my breath. I guess it's Angie's List for me.
I built a decent Thumbtack profile over a year (150+ 5-Star reviews) and received Top Pro status. One random Sunday, my account was deactivated. No email, no phone call, no response to my inquiry. They removed a review at the beginning of my tenure because they claimed it was illegitimate - they had no reasoning whatever, but I figured it was a fluke. Obviously I was wrong. The leads are also expensive.
I have hired 4 of Thumbtack's so called "Pros". Not a single one have completed their work. One of their "Pros" was a complete scammer who stole $5000 from us forcing us to litigate. Thumbtack could not even provide and address for us to serve, they have absolutely no vetting of their "Pros". Do not use this service it is a complete scam.
They to get in touch with this company is truly outrageous. Emails don't work, chats leave you waiting after 45 minutes after they started conversation. Phone number sends you to the chat. It's just a vicious circle. I have been waiting for a refund from a cleaning company, IE cleaning did not do the job I paid them for. I will never use them again or recommend the cleaning company or Thumbtack

I asked for someone who was willing to pick up yard debris that was already bagged and dispose of it for me. Joe Hollalr of Hollar Construction gave me the best bid, showed up the day I needed him, and kept me informed of the time he would arrive. He and his partner were pleasant, professional, and I asked them for an estimate on a painting job. Very likely will hire them again.
They where on time, very friendly and efficient. I have moved five (5) times in the last years and never felt happy with my movers until the last two (2) moves, used Superior Economy Moving both times and I will never call another moving company.
Thanks Superior,
Cherie L.
Julie from Rei Essence provided me a gentle relaxed Reiki session. She adapted her session to my specific needs. She includes crystals and essential oils for a peaceful and relaxing session. Julie spends time before and after to get to know you to be sure you are getting your needs met. I highly recommend her!
You've probably heard the saying when a man fixes something around the house and it works again that "He sure is a Handy Man to have around" well... Mr. Mark O'Oreilly was for sure "THE Handyman" here today, my bathroom fan/light, med cabinet now has its lights, and the outlet works too! Nice gentleman, highly recommend him, excellent job, very grateful, thanks to others for answering emails and to Thumbtack
They are a fraud! They offered me auto reload and I emphatically said no because I was not getting results to begin with. They put me on auto reload anyway. When I called to dispute it, they said there is nothing they can do with the charges. When I asked them to cancel my account they would not give me a confirmation number. Total scam!
I managed to find the supposed client that posted a job for marketing strategy. Interestingly enough, this person owned a marketing strategy agency. FAKE job posting. This is the second FAKE posting I have discovered at Thumbtack. Now I need to figure out how I get my $35 back because there are no legit jobs.
TT has increased their prices EXTREMELY high since about 5 years i begin using them. Back then TT was great, but about a year ago when taken by new administration, this people raised their prices, increased number of competitors per lead and change the system for charging the pros. Before, the number of people to aply a lead was 5, now is about 15, causing more difficulty to get hired. The cost went from 5-10$ to now being 20-100$ fee per lead, thats insane to think off how it will add up for a job you will most likely will not get competing with so many pros and the magnitude of people just window shopping. I stopped using this people and will never again.
I requested lawn care companies for my home in Queens, NY. They sent my information to two companies in Connecticut, one in New Jersey and one in Staten Island. Of course none of these companies supplied quotes. Not exactly local. Absolutely useless service.
I have been using Thumbtack as a pro for a while and it really sucks. Lately they have increased the price per lead a lot and most of the time, there is no closing deal. Most leads looking for Thumbtack are tire-kickers, and Thumbtack unfairly charges all the professionals when the customer selects more than one pro looking for the "cheapest price". It is an unfair system, only the chosen professional should pay for the lead and they charge all the pros selected. I'm moving to a new platform called Bark and highly recommend it to professionals who are paying a lot and struggling with Thumbtack. On Bark, the professional buys credits and uses them whenever they want, according to their job preferences. This operation mode allows the pro to invest their credits on the platform consciously and whenever they want.
We're sorry to hear about your experience on the platform, Luis. It's important for us to support small businesses and set them up for success. It's disappointing to hear you didn't receive quality leads, we'll definitely pass along the feedback about leads and pricing to the right teams. We want to wish you well as you and your business move forward, thank you for the feedback.
This business is a total scam. Zero customer service. The requests for quotes are obviously bogus. One supposed quotee "mistakenly" hit that they hired me. I wrote them asking them to correct that... No response, and no way for a pro to correct this. Responses to several quotes were exactly the same, "We decided to go in another direction". Really? With no other questions?
This Company also locks you out of your account when you delete your credit card, and "try" to deactivate it. I get an "error" message, then thy locked me out.
SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
